Also Mark and Luke like the Gospel writers (And Pierce's first name is Marcus which is close to Mark and Luci is close to Luke) (there are just so many reasons why these undercover names were fantastic?)

Honestly same like there are so many small little things thrown in like this that are so fun. I adore this show and its writers and actors and crew and everyone so much.

so I haven't been keeping up with OUAT but I know A4O is always a fun time and Timeless this week really only has a smattering of lyatt angst - like, if they're a notp for you maybe stay away but if they're just a "meh" ship it'll be fine? And I don't watch the others but my friend says Rise is really finding its groove. So yeah - A4O, Timeless, Rise, and then OUAT or the Royals. That's my vote.

Wait, why do you have a problem with the writers for the finale? I think they're great. Did I miss something? (Also has your sidebar always been Black Sails and I'm only just now realizing it?)

It’s been that way since Christmas! @prairiepirate commissioned a set of 3 pieces of absolutely beautiful fanart for my present and I had to make it my sidebar because I loved it so much. The CS piece from the same set is the background header image when you click through to my blog!

As to your other question, I’ll put it under a cut:

I have a couple of problems. For the first writer, I’m sure she’s very good, but it’s a question of experience for me. She hasn’t even written a single full episode on her own and has only co-written one, so I’m confused as to why they wouldn’t use a writer like David Hoffman or Anslem Richardson, both of whom have written multiple quality episodes both solely and as co-writers. My concern is that the lack of experience may mean she doesn’t have as good of a handle on the characters, their dynamics, etcetera that some of the other writers on staff might. And for what could be one of the last episodes of the show, and especially if they may want to use this to launch a bid for a later S3, it feels like they should have gone with their best and most experienced writers. 

My other main problem is…Arika. Her writing is fine. She wrote 1x16, which is still one of my favorite episodes, and co-wrote 2x08, and that’s great. (Although she also wrote Stranded, which…is probably one of the worst episodes imo). But she has also been extremely vocal for months about her bias for certain ships, with comments ranging from repeated iterations of “Wyatt’s done nothing wrong/he was in an impossible position” to “Wyatt was understandably upset with Lucy because she should have fought for him” to “Wyatt wasn’t in love with Jess and his pleas in 2x10 were only for the sake of their child” to “Lucy’s been in love with Wyatt since the Alamo.” Now, if she can put her personal feelings aside and write an objective and quality episode with the open ending we all deserve, then great. But the last thing that I would ever want for these episodes or this series is a rushed, forced reconciliation that would be immensely OOC for Lucy and couldn’t be handled in any realistic way during a two-hour (or more like 90 minutes with commercials) period. That’s my concern, and I don’t think it’s unjustified given the things she’s said.

Basically, it comes down to the fact that they have better writers on staff, who have consistently demonstrated a better understanding of these characters and their dynamics and it’s baffling (and a little upsetting) to me that they’ve chosen not to use them when this could be the end.

I DID NOT KNOW THE ORIGINAL LYRICS OF HAVE YOURSELF A MERRY LITTLE CHRISTMAS APPARENTLY but I always thought the hang a shining star line was a reference to how even though someone isn't there, you still have to carry on traditions because it's the traditions that hold the memory of the person and make you feel close. But that might have just been me.

I’m glad that you were able to come up with that interpretation! I’m surprised by how few people realize that a lot of our “classic” Christmas songs were originally used in movies. “White Christmas,” for example, was originally written for the film Holiday Inn (please don’t watch it, I had to last year and there’s a scene that will make your jaw drop at the sheer racism) and was again used in the film White Christmas (shocking, I know, given the title haha).

“Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” is from the film Meet Me in St. Louis, which I think most people don’t know because the film isn’t a Christmas film (neither is Holiday Inn, technically). There are significant parts of the film that take place at Christmas but the rest of the film takes place during the rest of the year, including a big Halloween scene. The family in the film has received the news that their father’s gotten a new job in a new city, and so they’ll be leaving their hometown where they’ve grown up all their lives. The youngest kid, understandably, is having the hardest time with this, so her older sister (played by Judy Garland) sings the song to her, including the original lyric “through the years we all will be together, if the fates allow. Until then we’ll have to muddle through somehow, and have ourselves a merry little Christmas now.”

She’s essentially telling her sister that it’s a sad situation, but they’ll find a way to make the holiday merry. It’s poignant and I like it because for so many people it’s true–we want to have a merry holiday but we don’t have the finances, or family is far away, and so on. But we’ll muddle through and find a way to have a merry Christmas anyway, and we’ll find a way to be together if we can.

The powers that be, of course, and other recording artists, feel this is too depressing and so will change the lyric. I think that’s a disservice, both because it takes away from the context of the source material and because the song makes more sense with the original lyrics, and I think we need those more serious, sad songs along with the happy upbeat songs. Take “I’ll be Home for Christmas,” which has the lyric “I’ll be home for Christmas, if only in my dreams.” I remember when 9/11 happened and a lot of people were suddenly deployed overseas, a lot of people listened to that song and connected with it. We need those sadder songs because sometimes, our holiday isn’t super cheerful, it can be tinged with sadness and more complicated emotions and we need songs that speak to that as well.

Anyway, there’s some context for you and that’s my personal take. I like that you were able to draw that meaning from the modified lyrics.

Why did I choose my username: Okay so I originally was just my username from my old blog, but I was always kinda worried that people would figure it out? I mean idk what I was worried about exactly but I was. But then Rosa came out on Brooklyn Nine-Nine and so I really wanted to be “rosabiaz” but it was taken but then I saw this awesome drawing so I became “detrosabiaz” and I like it and I’m keeping it.

Average amount of sleep: Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. I mean I’ll go to bed anywhere between midnight and 3am and then wake up anywhere between 7am and noon? This was less of an issue last week when I was staying at my mom’s but it’s become an issue again since I moved back into my apartment.

Lucky numbers: 14 and 2.

What I’m wearing: sleep shorts with a funky arrow pattern on them and a top that says “I <3 Female Orgasm” that I promised my mom I’d make a pajama top and not wear in public.

Dream job: Writing tv shows geared toward middle-grade girls with positive representation and educational value without feeling forced. Also acting in said tv shows. 

Dream trip: Backpacking Europe and seeing EVERYTHING. 

Fav food: Pesto pasta. Specifically my grandmother’s recipe.

Play any instruments: Technically I can pluck out notes on a piano and I know a handful of chords on guitar and ukulele but I think I’m still just one of those assholes who says “my voice is my instrument” even though I’m not that good a singer to really say that.

Hair color: Dark brown, but the underside is blonde because I dyed it blonde so I could dye it purple but the purple came out pink and it’s since faded to blonde and my mom keeps asking me if I “re-dyed it blonde” and I keep having to tell her that no I did not.

Eye color: Brown

Fav song: There’s really no way to pick a favorite song but if I could pick two or three songs that had the most meaning to me in the world they’d be “The Way You Love Me” by Faith Hill, “Delaney Talks to Statues” by Jimmy Buffett, and “Rocket Man” by Elton John.

Languages I speak: English. That’s it because I suck. I want to learn more. I have a whole list of languages I want to become at the very least conversational in.

Random fact: I am very behind on the baby blanket I’m knitting. I only have ten weeks left at most to get it to be roughly 3.5′ long and it takes me like 30 minutes to do a single row with this pattern.

Describe your fantasy: Okay so my dream life has me in some small town. I either commute into a big city for work or I have a book shop on Main Street called Maggie’s Bookshelf. (Possibly Marge’s Bookshelf if I decide when I’m older I want to go by Marge.) My spouse is a great cook and we have a house with a big tree in the front yard with a bench under it and a beautiful garden out back with quaint little sitting areas. The house also has a turret, the top floor of which is a craft room. We have three or for fostered kids and one or two biological kids and we have a really good relationship with my mom and siblings so they visit all the time or are close by or something. If I work in a big city I’d be writing/creating tv shows, or maybe working on Broadway. Something in entertainment. And I reach people. What I do connects to people and makes a difference. I have a few volunteer projects that I love doing. My mental health is all under control. I’ve got a great group of friends and we have adventures together when have spare moments away from our families. Every summer we go to my mom’s lake house and I inevitably wipe out on the jet ski but everyone laughs. My mom teaches some of her grandkids how to sail but also takes them hiking. Once a year, my mom and I spend a weekend in NYC and see a show on Broadway. Each of my kids gets a chance to go when they’re old enough, if they want to. All my life is love and happiness and it’s magic.

We need your help. Please, please help us.

We even made a handy reddit post of information.

Please. We are begging. This show is so good and if you give us a chance the Clockblockers could really use your support. NBC gave us one week to push for someone to save us. It wasn’t fair. And now we’re at a loss. 

If you love time travel shows, you might love this one! It’s fun and campy and the design is gorgeous in addition to the writing which is complex and imaginative and the actors oh my goodness the actors and the diverse characters they play. The main people working in STEM fields are all POC, including one WOC who is critical to saving their butts time and time again. And the most politically powerful main character on the show is a lesbian WOC! And there are complicated family dynamics and interpersonal relationships and so even though it’s campy it’s complex and insightful. And you learn things every week, without it feeling like a lecture.

Please stand with us in time travel solidarity. We need you.

Legends fans, please give this show a boost!!! We were left with such a cliffhanger and a two hour movie will not be able to resolve all of the plot lines swimming about!
