Sharing of the weirdest & best mini stock libraries I've found in a while

Today at work I was doing some serious digging for vintage postcard/tourism imagery, and stumbled across this DeviantArt account of scanned free stock images of vintage postcards. DeviantArt! Of all places!

Obviously some of it is quite dated, but as a stock resource, it's awesome. There are so many uses for this stuff. One thing I will say is that many of these images are 72DPI and not printable. If you're using these images for a print context or need them high-res, here's what I did to make them usable and still maintain their texture. Mini tutorial under the cut:

Opened in photoshop and went to Image -> Image Size and adjusted to 300dpi, 3000px min side length with resampling turned on

2. This results in a higher res but crunchy image. Thankfully, since we're using these to imitate the look of vintage prints, it's a perfect use case for the color halftone effect! Just pop it in at the lowest setting.

And voila! A wonderufully textured vintage postcard photo, free for the using.

Screentones Collection 1 - Halftones - Download

Apply these screentones to create a manga style or dot pattern on your illustrations, photos, designs and videos. This technique is mainly used in manga and comics to apply tones, shadows and patterns.

The number of lines corresponds to the number of dots in each row or column, the percentage is the amount of ink injected per inch equivalent to the grayscale. This method was implemented to reduce costs by printing only with black ink; when the dots are small enough, an optical illusion is created in which the eye interprets the patterned areas as a smooth grayscale.

This collection of screentones was made so that mangakas and digital illustrators could work freely in any software of their choice.

I highly recommend Rijkstudio for assets that are free under Creative Commons - you too can make weird art for no reason.
