Irondad lab days but Peter comes straight from school, and on the days Happy doesn't drive Peter to and from school, he finds weirder and weirder shit to carry with him to the lab. One day he comes in with a cat he's watching for Ned, another day it's an enter sign he found on the floor at school (or any sign, really), it's rusty keys he found it the gutter on someone's roof, a really cool stone he finds when passing the Sanctum (It's probably not gonna kill us, Mr. Stark! Look how it glows! Isn't that cool?) And every time he brings something by Tony's just like "HOW DO YOU KEEP FINDING STUFF LIKE THIS??"

“Boss?”

Tony jolted out of his half-asleep state. “What’s up, FRI?”

“There is a visitor here to see you.” Tony jumped up. Anyone he knew would usually call or text first, so he was immediately on alert. 

“Who is it, FRI?”

“I need you to have an open mind, and know that I do not believe this person is any threat.” Oh, yeah, that made him feel better.

“Excuse me? How about you let me decide that, Watson?” He started walking towards the door, activating his watch gauntlet. 

“Wait, Boss.” He was annoyed, but he trusted his AI enough to stop and listen. “I also need you to know that I have performed biometric scanning, and this person is who they appear to be. However, they insist they’re not from our universe, and that is the part I don’t understand.”

In a universe where he never invented time travel, and never brought anyone back, Tony Stark gets a late night visitor he never could have expected.

Flash gets ahold of Peter's phone somehow. Maybe Peter left it at a table at a party while getting another drink (probably water given his metabolism). Maybe Flash just snatched it while Peter was distracted at decathlon. Regardless, somehow, someway, Flash ends up with Peter's phone. He sees a contact labeled "Mr Stark" (*other possibilities also include "Yoda" and "Dad"). Flash being Flash, he decides to call bullshit. For a laugh, he texts that number, "we have ur son."

Flash does not expect Tony Stark to nearly blow out the windows with the force of his Iron Man suit as he lands outside.

He ultimately has to fess up about it in front of everyone and hand Peter's phone back to him. And if Tony Stark says anything regarding Flash's future if he chooses to keep bothering Peter, no one in that room heard it.

Peter keeps little trinkets/fanart that people give to him on patrol by hanging it up on his walls, putting things on shelves, etc.

Now, ever since May learned about Spider-Man she's made Tony come over to their house for takeout regularly so she knows exactly what Peter's been hiding from her. (This is not bonding time because May has plenty of friends of her own. Tony Stark is definitely not her friend. That would never happen. He is just a guy. Obviously.)

Fic where Tony comes over for his monthly Parker dinner and sees some of the fanart and little toys on the tables because Peter ran out of space in his bedroom. He's like, "Where's all this coming from?" and Peter gets super excited, explaining how people come up to him during patrol and tell him how grateful they are that he does what he does.

Bonus:

When it gets cold out, a fan gives him a knitted sweater, and Peter wears it every day out on patrol until it is literally 80 degrees out and he can't wear it without risking heatstroke (sometimes he sees the fan out and about and asks them for help with repairs, because he's tried to do all the research imaginable and it's just not working out)

Peter is really quiet and still when he sleeps. Like, he's completely different from when he's awake. Cue Peter falling asleep in the lab and scaring the shit out of Tony. Falling asleep on the couch after a long patrol and scaring the shit out of Tony. Falling asleep on his bedroom floor, too tired to make it to his bed, and, you guessed it: scaring the absolute shit out of Tony. Every time Tony has to ask FRIDAY to run Peter's vitals because he's so still when he sleeps that Tony finds it disturbing.

After a particularly hard mission with the avengers, Peter collapses on one of the chairs in the quinjet. He wore himself out because it was his first one while Tony and Rhodey were both away (Rhodey often babysits Peter on missions when Tony can't be around because he's cool and great we love and support Uncle Rhodey). The avengers, who have never seen Peter asleep before and cannot think straight through their panic, believe Peter is dead. They're immediately like "oh shit ohshitohshit Tony's gonna kill us" and the ride to the tower is over too quickly to even check for sure and Tony is waiting there, having returned home early so he can greet Peter.

The avengers are like "haha heyyy Tony. Listen, about your kid..." And someone carries Peter out and it, you know, scares the shit out of Tony for like half a second - before he realizes. He turns to the avengers like, "Oh yeah, he does that sometimes," and Peter wakes up not even 2 minutes later, completely fine

Add in some nice father-son (we ain't nasty here folks) cuddles or something between the boys because <3 comfort

Peter read online (or learns in a class) that hugging people lowers blood pressure, and reduces anxiety (it does a lot more than that, but those are the things he focuses on). Knowing Tony is probably low on hugs, he decides to take matters into his own hands by hugging Tony as much as possible. Peter's hesitant at first, because the first time Tony goes stiff, but the hugs actually begin to work wonders, so slowly he does it more often. Soon, he hugs Tony every chance he gets. In the hallway, passing him in the kitchen, entering the lab, just all the time.

It works so well that Tony just starts relaxing whenever Peter is in the room, and he can't figure out why. Pepper will invite Peter over on the days when Tony can't sleep, caught up in worrying about things that could go wrong, but Peter's hugs always help him come back to reality.

Bonus for angst:

Alternatively, Tony does know why he relaxes around Peter, because when he was a kid he actually tried to learn about the healthy benefits of hugs so that his own father would hug him more. The only person his research ever got through to was Jarvis, who did his best.

Tony can see that Peter is doing his best too, which only makes him hold Peter that much closer, because Peter cares enough to try.

Peter finds a tiny kitten in a car engine one night (could be on patrol or on the way home from school) and May, surprisingly, is on board with keeping it. Peter reads online that in the early ages cats need to socialize a lot so that they're more friendly with new people, so, since he's on summer break, whenever May's not home he just takes the cat everywhere. Just holds it in his hand.

He shows up to Tony's lab like, "Hey Mr. Stark!" completely normal, and Tony's like, "...what's with all the meowing?" and Peter pulls a cat out, presenting it proudly.

Tony's heard all sorts of animal horror stories from his parents because Howard didn't want a pet, so at first Tony's like, "Get it out of my lab." But he can't resist Peter's puppy eyes. The cat stays. Cut to like a month later and Tony has to watch Peter's cat for some reason, and Tony does that thing that dads do where they're like "we're not getting a pet >:(" then "this is my child and if anything happened to it I would kill all of you and then myself."

He says it's because Peter would be devastated. But really, that's only half of it.

AU where Tony is a really smart detective and he's trying to solve a murder case in a small town, where Peter is a waiter at a diner.

Tony frequents the diner (cuz it's the only one in town and he doesn't want to burn down his Airbnb trying to make food). Peter is thrilled about Tony's life as a detective and keeps following him around, which Tony is annoyed about. As the case unravels, it becomes increasingly clear that all the disappearances in the town aren't because of some old folklore surrounding the town, it's actually the same murderer from the case, and while Tony is fond of Peter at this point, he has to try and distance himself from him to make sure Peter isn't the murderer's next victim. Which, of course, doesn't work in his favor, and without Tony's protection, Peter goes missing. Now Tony's case has become a frantic attempt to find Peter before he turns up dead.

Peter oversees some of the stuff Tony's working on and provides insight that not many other people can since he works at the diner and sees all sorts of people come in.

You know those fics where Tony comforts Peter about Spider-Man and how he's not alone? Fic where Tony is the one spiraling instead.

In FFH, Happy tells Peter that Tony second-guessed everything, and after the Accords this probably only got worse, considering the people Tony thought to be family betrayed him. At this point, he doesn't even know if being Iron Man was worth it. And what about the Avengers? If he can't trust his own family to have his back, who can he trust?

Peter comes into the lab one day, and Tony's spiraling is worse than ever. He's drowning, mind lost to the "what-if's." Not paying attention, Tony snaps at Peter. He feels bad about it immediately afterwards (just one more fuck-up in a long list of fuck-ups) -- but Peter's not even fazed. He knows what it's like to second-guess everything you stand for, and he doesn't blame Tony for snapping. He gets Tony to open up a bit, and develops a plan.

Brightly colored sticky notes start showing up around Tony's usual spots in the tower. The kitchen, the lab, the lounge, there's even one on his leftovers for lunch. Just, sticky notes everywhere. They always have little comments about how Iron Man has benefited the lives of Peter and many others. And not just Iron Man: Tony Stark, too

One of Tony's favorites is about how not everything that happened with Ultron and the Sokovia Accords was his fault, that he shouldn't hold the burden alone.

Another tells Tony that he doesn't have to feel bad about healing from the experience. It doesn't have to cross his mind every day. he doesn't have to feel guilt about it every hour. It's okay to grow and learn from his mistakes.

Tony does not cry while reading Peter's notes. He doesn't. They don't mean anything to him, and they don't provide Tony with an excuse to get closer to Peter. Nope. Not at all.

Peter hates white light. Like, actually hates it. He would rather stumble around his room and trip over his bed than turn on the overhead light.

When Tony gives him a room at the tower, he secretly buys a little table lamp from a store because the overhead light is too bright. The new light is orange and cozy, perfect for Peter. When Tony comes into Peter's room one day (maybe to ask about dinner or if Peter wants to come down to the lab) he's like, "Why is your light not on? It's so dark in here" and turns on the overhead. Peter has to fess up about how white light makes him antsy because of his enhanced senses. When he comes to the tower next week, Tony has updated FRIDAY to have a "Spider-light" protocol, where the lights in rooms will dim to a more orange hue when Peter enters them so that he can feel more comfortable.

If he really focuses, Peter's spidey-sense can tell him whether someone is lying to him or not. Though it won't say why, he'll just have a little buzz that tells him someone isn't telling the truth or has harmful intentions. This helps him evade all sorts of situations, like Flash inviting him to a party where Peter later realizes he wanted to spike his drink to make him look bad, or it can bring good things, like the reassurance that May's affection is really from the heart (Peter worries sometimes that she says things just because she feels she has to. Even Spider-Man gets insecure sometimes).

In this fic Tony is feeling a little bit less like a mentor and more like a father towards Peter.

When May, Ned, and Tony start lying to Peter a lot about being busy, Peter fears the worst: that he's done something to offend them or otherwise drive them away. A call with Tony fixes his doubt, though he still claims to be too busy for lab time, which Peter knows is a lie, but at least he's not upset with Peter in any way.

On Peter's birthday, he gets back to his apartment feeling a little down since May, Ned, and Tony hadn't even sent him a text regarding today. But in the living room is a surprise party for Peter, which is why they've all been busy.

Though it might just be relief speaking, it's one of the best birthdays Peter's ever had.
