Yandere Light Yagami fluffy headcanon

Light tenderness would be really possessive.

He would like to show others that you belong to him.

And that no one else would have a chance.

He would be a god and you would be his partner.

realistically, if death note was set in 2023, we would have:

- reddit websleuths invading tokyo thinking that they can help L, but actually inconveniencing him because they would scare the shit out of him and would make him not leave the house at all for his own safety.

- 4chan trolls trying to convince some deranged individuals to kill people and blame kira for it, because they did it and nothing happened to them.

- tiktok users thirsting over kira because they have no fucking critical skills to understand that killing criminals = still killing.

- twitter having a moral debate over minors things that don't really matter months after they happened (because some information got leaked), like the FBI agents being sent to Japan, with some of them justifying their killings because they were working in another country that wasn't their own; also making threads trying to cancel Kira or L.

- facebook still trying to decide if Kira exists or if it's some massonic invention made by the new world order to control them.

- incels/alpha male podcasters dickriding kira because it encapsulates the "sigma male" mentality.

- instagram influences posting one image/story in support of L, and never talk about it ever again.

How would Death Note go if, everything was the same, except the way that Misa and Light got their notebooks was reversed? So Misa just found hers randomly and Ryuk is her Shinigami. But Light was saved by a Shinigami who was in love with him and gained both their book and their lifespan. And Rem. (Don't ask me why the Shinigami was in love with Light lol)

For the sake of this ask, maybe pretend that Misa doesn't get killed in an alley.

Caveat

I mean, in Light's Kira glory days, the Shinigami in general are all interested in what's happening with him and I can easily imagine one or two becoming enamored with this insane human who's giving them the entertainment of their lives.

Before then, well, Gelus clearly romanticized Misa as he watched her and saw her as a tragic figure in need of saving. She was young, beautiful, had a tragic past with the death of her parents, and he couldn't stand the thought of watching her die at such a young age because of this stalker.

The point being that he only knew of Misa from a distance and liked what he could see looking through a window. Now, Light doesn't have the tragic backstory to attract Gelus's interest, he had a great life before canon started with a family that loved him and a bright future ahead of him, but in theory Gelus could have become fascinated with this seemingly perfect young man who's dying of boredom on the inside and want to save him from his untimely death at the hands of a mugger.

So, sure, why not.

Misa Meets a Death God

Misa picks up the notebook and thinks it has a nice asthetic, Misa being very into gothic lolita, and that while morbid humor is the sort of thing she could have as a prop in her bedroom. Fits right in.

I imagine she doesn't think much about it, doesn't believe it, and that's when Ryuk gets bored actually. The thing with Light was that he waited a bit to see what the person who picked up the notebook would do and that he'd planned to keep dropping it around until someone interesting picked it up.

Ryuk felt thrilled when Light picked it up on the first try and went fucking insane with the death count. Ryuk settled happily in for the ride of his life, watching as Light murdered people in interesting ways and tried to murder that detective.

If Misa's not doing anything, and she's likely not, then Ryuk will take it back from her and try again until he gets someone who is interesting. Even if Misa accidentally killed a person, I don't think she'd have the will or interest to be Kira without Light's prior example. What Light did requires... well... being Light. Misa could become the second Kira because she already idolized Light and he'd made it, in a weird way, culturally acceptable. I imagine Misa might kill the man who'd killed her parents but that would be the end of it.

I imagine Ryuk would end up with a mobster eventually and be very entertained as it's used for inter-gang assassinations. But hold that thought.

Light Meets a Death God

Light, I imagine very shaken from nearly dying, walks away from the incident not sure how to feel then holy shit a god of death has come for him. He panics even harder than he did in canon with Ryuk until Rem explains that Light was saved by a Shinigami that was in love with him and here is his new murder notebook.

Now, the thing about canon, is that Light started in as Kira because a) he at first didn't believe it then killed a man and went "my god" b) he thought he was going to be taken to the underworld so started in killing as many people as he could before Ryuk met up with him. Light had about a day to talk himself into this where he goes from "oh my god I just killed someone" to "only I can kill fucking everyone!". Here, the circumstances are different, he hasn't killed anyone and he doesn't have the motivation to make the most of the notebook before a Shinigami comes for him as Rem is pointedly giving it to him.

I imagine Light mulls over it for a bit, a god literally died for him and gave him this as a gift, how should he use it if at all. I imagine his first instinct, as in canon initially, is not to use it/not to want to be a murderer. Then, however, I imagine he thinks of all the people he believes the world would be better without, a world in which he can get rid of violent crime entirely as an unseen god, and thinks about what the Shinigami saved him from.

Had it not been for Gelus, Light would have died, because a human wanted to stab him.

Then Light's back on the "only I can do this!" murder bus and Rem is... not entirely thrilled with any of this (while Rem pointedly never liked Light I do think it was more than just how dismissive he was of Misa but also that Light was casually making use of the notebook for such extremes).

I imagine Rem sticks around, as Gelus died for this motherfucker, but she doesn't like it.

Canon then proceeds pretty much the same except that L and Light end up in this stalemate in college as Misa doesn't have a Death Note to rock the boat. L can't get any real evidence on Light at all, his attempts to rattle him reveal nothing, and Light in turn can't get L's name and Rem refuses to tell it to him out of principle.

Except, at some point, I imagine Ryuk gets jealous. Why does Rem get this batshit insane human and he keeps having to drop the notebook all over the place? I imagine Ryuk asks Rem to trade, he'll give the kid his notebook, Rem can take Gelus's, and they'll switch so Rem can be with the kind of boring humans she likes and Ryuk can stick with this kid.

Rem of course refuses, as does Light who suspects Ryuk and knows how to bully Rem into doing mostly what he wants, and so I imagine a miffed Ryuk makes things hard for Light/more interesting. I imagine he starts killing people in a way so as to provide L 'evidence' so as to be able to get firmer suspicions of Kira.

A man dies shouting at Light that he's the devil then douses himself in gasoline then lights himself on fire. Another person dies doing the same thing but they throw themselves into a woodchipper.

(L hates that he can't use any of this as evidence not just simply because the entire world's gone mad about Kira anyway but also because these fuckers keep killing themselves before L can ask questions.)

I imagine Light, at his wit's end, agrees to trade with Ryuk but only if Ryuk tells Light L's name. "That's cheating" - Ryuk says as he did in canon (also, Ryuk is having a great time inconveniencing Light).

Death Note becomes a weird thriller comedy in which L is hunting Kira, but The Happening is going on, and Light is trying to find a way to manage Ryuk, Rem, and L all at the same time while also planning L's murder in a way that it makes it look like L just caught The Happening.

So, L falling in love. Putting this under a read-more because my stupid ass is going to ramble.

I think he would usually fall in love with people who are relatively capable. I have no idea how to describe this more. You wouldn't have to be some genius, just be able to operate independently because the man is no caregiver. Also, I think you'd have to make an impression of some sort on him, otherwise he probably wouldn't even pay enough attention to get to know you. A big trait L would like to see in someone is understanding. You're gonna have to be able to at least tolerate his attitude and more bizarre mannerisms if you intend on becoming a permanent fixture in his life. Even more than that, he would want someone who would be able to understand just what kind of person he is: how he's not exactly pure, how he would rather do things if they interest him instead of doing them out of the goodness of his heart, the things he's willing to do to get the results he wants. You don't need to agree with him on everything, he probably would like it more if you didn't. You can't change him, but it gives him more to think about when he weighs his decisions.

So! L falling in love. I did touch on this in a previous post, but I'll paste what I said here:

L will know as soon as his feelings appear. Depending on what he's doing at the time, this discovery could be anywhere between a mental footnote and an outright statement directed towards you. He's become fond of you, far beyond a passing fancy or a momentary infatuation. He'll be requesting your input on whatever he's been working on, or making sure Watari knows to bring extra sweets when you're present. If you're really lucky, he might just feed them to you.

I think it's something he would figure out super quickly and then just. Sit on until he's pretty sure you feel the same. He doesn't want to have to confess just to find that you don't share his affection. 10/10 you can just expect a "I've fallen for you" from him and have no idea how genuine it is because it wouldn't be unusual for him to say things like that to get a reaction. You would have to pay attention to how he interacts with you and matters regarding you to know just how true his statement was. (To a point, I think he'd kinda be lowkey obsessed with you. Like, he's not gonna be thinking about you all the time or think about you over the case he's currently working on, but there's definitely something there.)

Things you can expect from L when the two of you are an item:

Don't be surprised if he encourages you to pick up some kind of defensive martial arts. He knows several, so it's really not a shocker. The man's really thinking you need to learn how to beat the shit out of someone so it's one less thing he has to worry about now that he's let you in.

Luxury. Absolute Luxury. L's funds are near bottomless as far as you should be concerned. You have his heart but he's not always the most emotionally available, so you have his wallet. If you're travelling with him, he's actively making sure you get the best. Watari probably would've picked up on your tastes and knows to accommodate them if he wants the detective's best work. An extra slice of cake meant for you? Sure. A whole floor of the headquarters building just for you? Take two.

Vulnerability! Holy shit, vulnerability. It's something that's so rare for him to show. He's almost always working like, five steps ahead of everything else, why would he need to be vulnerable? I think I can count the times he's canonically showed his cards on one hand and most of them were in the episode where he fuckin' dies(showing some regret over the deaths of the FBI agents, the interaction he has with Watari in the monitoring room where the older man asks him what's wrong or w/e, the rooftop scene, the foot thing, and then him dying.) He's more willing to show the cracks in his façade to you, and that in itself is super powerful evidence about how you make him feel.

I absolutely think he would have some kind of system set up to look after you if something happened to him. They had the dead man's switch to let Roger know if L died so whatever successor would know to take over without letting the world know the original L was gone, but that seems more like something Watari would've insisted on. A place to live, expendable funds, hell there's probably options for a new identity in there somewhere if that's what you'd want.

My current weirdest Death Note headcannon is probably that out of all 3 primary sucessors, Matt met/saw L the most but he never knew it - L used to creep around the kitchen of the Wammy's House at ungodly hours of the night and then sneak back into his room and Matt's room was right in the middle of the kitchen and L's room. Matt used to leave the door semi cracked and would sometimes look up from games or studying and be like "oh the cryptid dude is back at it again," to himself

A bit about Misa's death as well as the sexism in Death Note.

Sure, that's certainly worthy of a post.

On Misa Amane

The thing about Misa is she's actually very clever, she's just reckless and lacks experience in police investigations/forensics. Most of fandom (at least as of years ago, haven't tapped in in a very long time) compares Misa to either L or Light and finds her lacking.

The thing about Light is that, while he'll take risks, they're often very calculated with 1001 different contingency plans. His reckless moments happen, as do moments spurred by emotion rather than cold logic, but they're remarkable because they happen relatively infrequently.

Add to the fact that Light stands out of the crowd because he's this ridiculous, anal, brilliant planner.

Misa approaches things as problems to solve and is actually very efficient about solving them.

Problem Solving: Misa Style

She wants to meet Kira, she's not necessarily considering what could go wrong (she has very little self worth) or how this would look in a police investigation (she only knows basics of this/pop culture and isn't brought up in a police household the way Light is). What she is able to do is in a population of millions, within a few weeks, find Kira before he finds her, plan a meeting with him without his knowledge and without getting caught by the police, and is then able to enter a relationship with him.

True, she has the eyes, she has Rem who is willing to die for her, but she not only finds Light Yagami out of millions, with none of the information L has at his disposal, but she strong arms him into doing what she wants.

Later, in the Yotsuba Arc, Misa recovers her memories before Light and in a single afternoon not only escapes police custody but gets a confession out of Higuchi, gets it recorded, all without outing herself as Kira.

I think it's also telling that Light trusts her to pull this off without any supervision from him and with Rem's disapproval of Light and all his schemes.

Later, when she's memoryless, she essentially wins a battle of wits/discussion with Takeda (who has become Misa's temporary/disposable replacement).

And at the end of the day you have to look at the position Misa ends up in. She was never killed off by Light, she ends up essentially Light's permanent partner even when he replaces her with the likes of Mikami and Takeda (Light stays with Misa even when he, in theory, had no more use for her), and she essentially gets everything she sought out to achieve.

Of course, Light then dies, but Misa was out of the game by that point.

Misa achieves what no other character in Death Note does. Which, frankly, makes her one of the most terrifyingly intelligent characters in the series.

In my AU Ryuk and Rem didn't give Light and Misa the Death Notes again and L, Light, Misa, etc didn't die, so this technically takes place the amnesia arc which I argue is a favorite okay?! Still doesn't mean Light gets dreams of him as Kira and isn't aware he was.

MISA:

Got really into the Gothic look after her parents' death where someone was a jerk and said a "joke" when she was still wearing black while she was still grieving

Didn't really fall in love with L right away (obviously) but she did care for him in a way that showed she cared

Loves bubble baths

Like Light she still has dreams of Rem and often find herself crying over the waking of her dreams as if someone killed her loved one in front of her

And like Light she knows after Rem confronted her she was the second Kira and feels terrible about it

Has a beautiful singing voice

After a lot her and Kiyomi kind of became friends, she honestly feels as if Kiyomi reminds her of someone she knew before (ie rem)

L:

Dude, this man was aware he liked both for a loooooonnng ass time, since Wammy actually

He knows Light and Misa were Kira, I mean he subspecies it since day one but to actually be right honestly hurt him.. He didn't want to be right in this case. So, he swore not to say a word since they're no longer Kira and 2nd Kira

Loves baths more than Misa

His family died in an domestic abuse murder suicide and he wandered out the house alone in which an officer found him and discovered his family's death, since then he's been emotionally isolated

Is autistic just doesn't get meds

Has lots of stim toys and objects he uses a lot when he thinks hard or under/overstimulated

Loves hot cocoa with marshmallows and whipped cream

Watari was basically his father after the many years they've known each other, doing the most of a father like role than others, helping the boy when needed, etc. And while L doesn't show emotions he generally is greatful and sees Watari as his father figure, even having him his best man and father-of-the-groom for his wedding

MISALIGHTL:

As mentioned with L when I said "wedding", the three didn't really want a huge public wedding since that would exposed L's identity and it would be a headache to deal with so they had a secret small ceremony with friends and some family with Watari being L's father-of-the-groom, Sayu as Light's Best Lady, and Kiyomi was Misa's maid of Honor. They each wore a mix of white and black with some red elements thrown in there for many reasons but mostly cause L said they looked good so yeah

Their wedding cake was similar to these two:

They all live in an apartment together, similar as to the building they were all stuck in, and have their own rooms/studies for work while Misa keeps working as a model and actress and both L and Light kept working as detectives until Light decided to leave being a detective after so many nightmares of cases and being Kira and decided to be a true crime/mystery novel writer

One day while they were chilling, pre-marriage them btw, L decided he's going to visit Wammy to get any plans of who his next "L" would be if he died and they came along with him. There they were able to meet Near, Mello, and Matt. The three kids hung out with them during their stay back in Japan to see who is perfect for the next role. Weeks pass and all three are doing really well and it didn't really sink in until later that L is actually doing this to see if he wants kids. Well, Misa and Light like the idea and they ended up adopting Mello as their son in which he admittedly cried

They go on date nights three times a week, one for each pair with their trio dates mostly being at home

After a few years of marriage they had two kids of their own in which Mello likes the role of older brother

NEAR:

Like L, Near is autistic (I believe that's canon and people hate it??)

Is nonbinary. I'm sorry I honestly can't see this baby as cis at all!

Owns lots of pants, shirts, skirts, dresses, tights, boots, heels, flat shoes, socks that'll work with him with any gender dysphoria and day

Primally goes by Near since that sounded right

Suffer from night terrors which is how his spark of studying happened cause that distracted them

Demi-Sexual bean!

Got adopted by Kiyomi and gets spoiled rotten

MELLO:

Choco-holic what else is new

Suffered an eating disorder which was quickly helped fixed with Matt and his new family

Mentioned above with L, Light, and Misa adopting him, he adores his family gratefully and it's not just cause L chose him out of everyone

Him and Near still have a rather strong rivalry but it's healthy now and also more so childish thanks to their adopted families

Likes his Uncle Matsuda a lot (Matsuda ends up marrying Sayu in this)

Is kind of that kid in school who knows shit and will market the crap out of soda and candies to the kids who have money and parents who won't allow sugar in his household

Often gets caught sneaking out to see Matt and sometimes (a lot) Near by his parents

Is Pan and always knew it

MATT:

Got adopted by Stephen and Teru in this AU

Still is obsessed with video games and eats candy cigarettes until he's legal to smoke if he wants to

Is straight besties with Mello and Near

Has so much gaming stuff it's unreal

Loves the rain

MATT X MELLO X NEAR:

Got together sometime after Near was adopted with Matt and Mello being a thing first and Near joined after

They're both protective of Near

And then Near would shock everyone with a thrown of a textbook to the face if someone says something bad about either of them

Misa is overly supportive of this relationship, Kiyomi loves to tease Near often, and the many times Teru and Stephen would interrupt calls with them to tease is too much

L's kiss experience (excluding the time Misa kissed him on the cheek) is probably limited to him getting smooched on the forehead by his mom when he was like. under eight years old. He knows how kissing works from both a scientific and literal perspective, he's seen it billions of times between any kind of media and his case-related surveillance. It's like this aspect of nature he can't avoid seeing, but he's also never longed for it before.

Assuming you're someone he's in a relationship with, he figures it's probably something that's just inevitable. Personally, I think it could go down in one of two ways: 1. he outright asks you if he can kiss you or 2. you kiss him first.

He's not playing around here, okay. It's really just gonna be a "Can I kiss you?" or a "Would you like to kiss me?"

He's been reading your body language for a while by now and he can tell what you're planning on. Not only have you been facing towards him and leaning into your interactions, but your eyes have been flickering between making eye contact and glancing at his lips.

Either way, I think the first way I could describe it is. Awkward. It's either too long or too short, I mean, how is he supposed to know the time duration of a kiss? Would he average it out from comparing footage? I also feel like he would keep his eyes open the entire time. It's his first kiss, of course he's going to observe it and commit it to memory. Imagine kissing L and the first thing you see after you pull away a little is him and his huge ass owl eyes right in your face. smh.

I'd love to say he would improve a lot from that point, but like. Nahhhh. I think kissing would follow the 1 or 2 formula I mentioned earlier for quite a while. Another scenario I can see in the future is just him staring at you until you notice him and just saying "I would like a kiss." He is kinda spoiled.

L would taste so sweet that it's almost bitter.
