DBH Big Bang 2023 Sneak Peek

Coming 26th of August to an AO3 near you!

There are some stunning artworks from @winterbaroness and @vladlen4i in the offing that I've had the immense privilege to preview. To tide us all over until then, have a little peek at what's coming:

Hank followed him like a dog on a leash. The smell of tarry, slightly burned coffee hung in the air. Gavin hung with it, leaning against the small break room table. His eyes alighted on Connor, and then on Hank.

Gavin straightened up. Cold fingers dragged down Connor's spine, which he did his best to ignore. “What's with the tin can?”

Connor walked past Gavin to the coffee machine and didn't turn around. “It's a new model they're trialing,” he answered.

“So they gave it to you?” Gavin asked. Connor kept his eyes on his coffee mug. The machine whirred when he pressed a button, and then the soft trickle of hot liquid followed. “I guess it is your type.”

Connor rolled his eyes and turned. Gavin wasn't looking at him, instead he'd moved towards Hank. He looked comically small, like some angry, yappy little mutt squaring up to Hank's unmoved neutrality. “So what model are you?”

Hank's expression didn't shift, but he looked down at his own jacket and pointed, slowly, to the RK800 emblazoned there. He tapped it twice before looking back at Gavin. “I thought literacy was a basic requirement for cops?”

Connor bit the inside of his bottom lip hard. Gavin squared his shoulders. “Oh, they made it a smartass.”

“Gavin,” Connor called his name, wanting him to back down. Hank's eyes flicked up to Connor for a split second. Connor was almost sure that Hank nodded to him.

“Someone needs to teach this thing some manners,” Gavin declared, flashing a sneer at Connor.

Connor saw what was happening in a blur. Gavin's hand became a fist, and it moved towards Hank's chest, aiming for what was the solar plexus on a human, and where the thirium pump lay on an android. Connor had seen Gavin floor an android with a swift hit there before. He didn't know how Gavin had learned it worked. He hadn't wanted to ask.

Hank's hand caught Gavin's fist and then squeezed. Gavin froze. In one quick jerk Hank had dragged Gavin's hand up behind his back and was forcing him to his knees, ignoring the demands from Gavin to, “Take your fucking hands off me!”

With Gavin on his knees Hank looked up at Connor as if he wanted instruction. “Should I let him go?” he asked.

Gavin spat profanities like a pissy cat. Connor failed to hide his amusement. “Eventually,” he conceded. He took a couple of steps towards Gavin and crouched down so that Gavin was on his eye level. There was an immense satisfaction in seeing Gavin completely fail to free himself from Hank's grip. “You should probably leave this one alone,” he advised, amiably. All androids had self preservation programmed into them, although it came behind following orders and not letting humans get hurt in their priorities. Hank seemed to have figured out the loophole in those rules, which was that he could defend himself without harming a human if he could immobilize them. “He's smarter than you.”

“You're such a plastic fucker,” Gavin snarled at him.

Connor smiled beatifically. “You know, I miss this about working with you,” he said, mildly. “The camaraderie, the bromance,” he paused briefly before adding, “the needless violence.” He set his hand in Gavin's hair and ruffled it. Gavin bared his teeth and tried to jerk free from Hank again. “Try and touch Hank and he has my full permission to dislocate both your arms.” Connor stood then, and turned to retrieve his mug of coffee, taking a sip before he nodded at Hank. “Let him go.”

Hank held on to Gavin a moment longer. From the way Gavin hissed Connor guessed that Hank had given his arm one final squeeze before he released him. Connor strode out of the break room, hoping Hank would follow, and that Gavin would show an atypical sense of self preservation and not follow.

“Maybe you're right about getting something to eat,” Connor conceded, when they were a few safe feet clear of the break room. It would put a healthy distance between Hank and Gavin, and give Gavin a chance to stew on what Connor had said.

He definitely wasn't agreeing to it because Hank had impressed him a little bit. Not at all.

@glass-noodle and I did a cover collab for @the-cones-of-dunshire's hankcon wrestling fic. She drew the two Connor and did the linenart while I sketched the other two and colored !

Here's my second work for DBH big bang 2023. This is an illustration for "Collision Course" fanfic by wonderful @sunkiller44 https://archiveofourown.org/works/50259118/chapters/126953926

I know @cptjh-arts also made art for this scene, but since Reed900 became one of my favorites, I just couldn't miss the opportunity to illustrate what I like most about that pairing. And that scene in the fic completely reflects my idea of them, I really enjoyed working on it.

Welcome to the 2023 Detroit: Become Human big bang event!

So what's a big bang event? How does it work?

A big bang pairs writers and artists together. Writers will create fanfictions and present a summary of their project anonymously – artists can then apply to create fanworks for the project. The matching will be done by mods to assure that everyone finds a partner.

Are there restrictions and rules for the works you can submit?

The minimum word count for this event is 10k words. For writers, the work has to be a new story, that is to say, something that has not been published prior to the event. Regarding themes and content – there are no restrictions, as long as you write a dbh fanfic. You can write gen or explore whatever pairing you like, just be transparent about the content, especially in regards to rating and potential triggers.

For fanartists, the work you create is informed by and based on the fic you were matched to.

This is a pro-ship event.

This event is intended for the entire fandom, no matter what you ship and don‘t ship. We implore you to be mindful of other's preferences, regardless how you feel about them. Be kind, don‘t harrass. A big bang is for working together, not against one another.

Signups open on Wednesday, March 8th.

We‘ll publish a post with the link to a form you can fill out.

Signups close for writers on March 29th and they close for artists on April 19th. A more in-depth timeline for the dates will be published soon.

Finally!! I can post it!!

DBH Big Bang 2023 time!!

So excited to be a part of this year’s DBHBB!

I got to work with some absolutely incredibly people during this project. The fic I had the pleasure of making a few pieces for is called All’s Fair in Love and War and I’m telling you I frOTH OVER IT!!!

@leelany-world wrote it and you all should definitely check them out if you haven’t already!

This piece is done based off of their 2nd chapter and I hope you all read the fic to the end because it is to die for!

This was my first ever big bang that I got to participate in and I’m so happy to say it was definitely a very memorable one!

Although this has been the toughest year for art, I’m really grateful for this event as it pushed me out of my comfort zone and back into the world of creating pieces for myself and for things I love. Thank you, everyone, for all the support, encouragement, and inspiration.

D:BH Bigbang 2023

Finally I can share my art for the D:BH Big Bang 2023!

I was having so much fun drawing for so many awesome writers! 

And it was my first Big Bang working with other artists in teams and doing some collabs as well!

I claimed 8 fics I wanted to draw for, got 4 as starters and was able to claim the rest later in the BigBang. For some of those I already had outlines ready (so I would have done them anyway as a surprise for after the BB, but I was so happy to be able to work with the writers in the end and ask if they would like to have some details changed).

Also I am thanking the mods and the initiators Tine and Sev (@sevdrag/@dbh-bb2023) for bearing with our madness ;) (I WANT MY STICKERS NOW!!)

I just wanted to post a quick thank you to everyone who put up with my madness during the creation of my DBH Big Bang 2023 fanfiction.

This is going to be a long post, guys.

Everyone on the discord server, doesn't matter if they were taking part in the event or just cheering, were incredible and always willing to help if you got stuck or needed a little push to get going again.

That being said, I wanna thank a few people in particular for helping me get this fanfiction done.

First of all: @batbootie for beta reading almost the entire thing. Your comments really helped me flesh out the story and... correct my spelling and grammar. You've done an amazing job and you powered through the chapters, spamming me with notes. Thank you so much!

Also thank you to @timefliesinadream, @intheyellowandgreen and @mangabirdao3 for helping me out when I got stuck and needed help with the plot or got insecure about a scene.
