Migration + Mooned Review
Tumblr media
Before I start this review, I'll just have you know that the director who made this also made a movie called Ernest and Celestine. Pretty obscure film, but it was one of the very few films I actually gave a 9 out of 10. Now, granted, I was young back when I first watched it and I could think differently now, but I'm just saying.
Tumblr media
Which is why it's pretty amazing how Migration is actually quite the step down from Ernest and Celestine. It's still a decent movie, but it isn't anything to write home about.
Story
If you thought the Mario movie was simplistic, I'd say the Mario movie had a bit more going on than this one. On one hand, it's a basic adventure film and on the other hand, things happen that don't make sense. Like how the plot of the film gets started by Mack turning a 180 and deciding to migrate. The mallards get caught by these giant birds that they think want to eat them, but actually don't. During action moments, the birds would be screaming but nobody is alerted. And then the film loses its footing toward the end when they introduce a villain who wants to cook the birds. Nothing really special to say about the story. It's that weak.
Characters
The characters have their charmingly quirky moments, but like the story, they don't really feel meaningful. Mack is your average overprotective parent for some unexplained reason, the mother (forgot her name) is just a mother. Characters like the pigeon, parrot, and the uncle didn't really do much and probably shouldn't have been there in the first place. I do think the thin story hurts the characters somewhat. I do like Gwen, Dax, and the uncle personality-wise but I wish they were in a better story.
Overall
Clearly a movie made for children and I'm sure slice-of-life fans would like it, but it's no Despicable Me (another simple film by Illumination that would appeal to both adults and kids). Nothing much special, that's why this review is so short. It's cute, but it's not going to stick in my head after a while. I think it would've done better as a short or it could've used some more drafting in order to structure the story better.
I give Migration 6.1 bells out of 10.

Mooned
Tumblr media
I always wanted to know what happened to Vector on the Moon, but idk, man. Like Migration, it just seemed like it was made to entertain the kids. Vector is not as cool as he once was in the film, and jog my memory, but I don't remember his suits having abilities besides flying? (And I just recently rewatched the first film). It's good for a laugh, but that's about it. Maybe it didn't really need to be made.
4.1 bells out of 10.
Tumblr media
Both films have .1. Ain't that interesting?

Migration gets new trailer, releases December 22
A new trailer has been released for Migration, which is set to release December 22, 2023.
The Mallard family is in a bit of rut. While dad Mack is content to keep his family safe paddling around their New England pond forever, mom Pam is eager to shake things up and show their kids—teen son Dax and duckling daughter Gwen—the whole wide world. After a migrating duck family alights on their pond with thrilling tales of far-flung places, Pam persuades Mack to embark on a family trip, via New York City, to tropical Jamaica.
As the Mallards make their way South for the winter, their well-laid plans quickly go awry. The experience will inspire them to expand their horizons, open themselves up to new friends and accomplish more than they ever thought possible, while teaching them more about each other—and themselves—than they ever imagined.

Movie Review: Illumination's latest film Migration
Two months ago, after New Year's Day, I watched Illumination's 14th feature film at TGV Cinemas in Sunway Pyramid. Before watching the movie, I saw on their Instagram post it was going to premiere along with a short film called "Mooned" which featured the return of Vector the supervillain from the first movie.
This movie is about the Mallard family with their two children, Dax and Gwen along with their uncle, Dan who wants to migrate from New England to Jamaica to join Kim and her family for the summer. However, things did not go as planned as the whole family couldn't find their way out of New York City.
When they meet Chump the aggressive bird of the flock in Central Park, she tells the family that Delroy the Scarlet Macaw is captured in a cage by the evil Chef at his famous Manhattan restaurant who plans to make a French dish called Duck A' Lorange.
As they got to the office where Delroy was in the cage, the two, had a plan to get the key before cooking the two of them to make his specialty dish.
They then freed Delroy and started back their migration to Jamaica. When they find a resting spot for the night, the chef captures all of the birds in his helicopter and flies away leaving Dax and Gwen heartbroken.
When all the birds were captured in a big cage along with Delroy, Pam, and Mack, they were worried that they might be taken back to the restaurant to be cooked as a French dish. However, they thought of a plan to escape the evil chef's helicopter by working together as a team and they were reunited with Dax and Gwen as the two were saving them from falling to the ground.
When they arrived in Jamaica, all of the birds were happy to have their own dream holiday, especially Kim the duck who was reunited with Dax and lived a happy life.
In the end, as the spring season began, it was time for all of the birds to go back home to New England. But the penguins were stranded on the beach, and they needed to get back home to the South Pole.
Tumblr media
After seeing the movie, I learned from the Mallard parents to always be optimistic even if you fail the first time. Then there's a second chance that you may succeed in life in anything.
The scene I loved in this movie was when the group of birds including the Mallards enjoyed their very own waterpark from the farm.
Overall, this Illumination movie was perfect, and it was a great experience to learn about going to new places across the globe with your family and friends.
I hope that there will be another sequel to Migration where the Mallards meet the penguins at the South Pole.

¿Tu familia también es rara?… “¡Patos!”
Tumblr media

MIGRATION Trailer #2 (NEW 2023)
The Big Sick star Kumail Nanjiani is anxious duck dad Mack and Elizabeth Banks is Pam, the quick-witted Mallard clan matriarch, in the latest trailer for the upcoming animated family ducks franchise pic Migration, from the Minions studio Illumination Entertainment and Universal.
“Whoa! We are not flying through this crazy death trap,” Mack tells his family as they dodge buses, scooters and people while traversing New York City on their way south. Also taking flight in the feathered family vacation comedy is Caspar Jennings as Dax, the Mallards’ confident and restless son, and Tresi Gazal as Gwen, the family’s innocent and lovable daughter, while Awkwafina voices the scrappy leader of a New York City pigeon gang.
The Mallard family has gone on holiday after Pam convinces an overprotective Mack it’s fine to take the family out of the comfort of their New England pond to see a wider world, and eventually Jamaica. “What sort of father would I be if I put my young fowl in harm’s way for no reason, except a chance at a Caribbean vacation?” Mack asks Pam while clutching Dax and Gwen tight at one point in the teaser.
But Pam wants her family to see the world, and so they take to the sky to make their way south for the winter.
From a screenplay by Mike White, the CGI-animated Migration pic also has an ensemble voice cast that includes Carol Kane as Erin the heron, Keegan-Michael Key voicing a homesick Jamaican parrot locked away in a Manhattan restaurant, David Mitchell as the yogic leader of a mysterious duck farm, and Danny DeVito co-starring as Mack’s curmudgeonly, adventure-averse Uncle Dan.
Directed by Benjamin Renner, Migration is produced by Illumination founder and CEO Chris Meledandri. Illumination projects, including the Despicable Me franchise, have grossed more than $8 billion globally. The studio’s most recent features include The Super Mario Bros. Movie and Minions: The Rise of Gru.
