Hello everyone Ricky Goldman here.
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Its BTW: From Salford With Love live in Bolton at Ellesmere Road Recreational Club. I got myself a beer.
Tumblr media
1st match is Ben Evans vs Ry Lloyd. My 1st look at both of these. Ry took charge whilst the crowd chant for Ben,he tries to get back in it but gets put right back down again. Ben finally turns it around and does go on to win.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Out comes Jack Johnson interrupted by Maverick Matt Williams. The main event will now be last man standing.
Tumblr media
Next we up is Axel Strife and Jack Roberts vs Modern Day Mafia (Joel Cobra and Dave Douglas) my 1st look at both Joel and Dave. This was an ok match,Axel got distracted by his former tag team partner who was in tne crowd. Modern Day Mafia take over,Axel and Joel battle through the crowd whilst Jack hits a frog splash on Dave for the victory. Jack then grabs the mic,out comes Alfie and Aiton Steen followed by Stoxx and Ginha they destroyed Jack.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Next match will be Bentley vs Phillip Michael. Phillip was late coming out for his entrance. Both men go at it,Phillip wants to take it to the mat, they fight and brawl outside the ring just barely making it in before the 10 count. They continue to battle,Phillip looks to win but its 2 Claymores from Bentley that sees him coming out on top.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
On ww go with the next match MJ Maxx and Bee Drill vs Stoxx and Ginha. This was an OK but quick match. All 4 men looking good but it was the heels in control and with the advantage. I was at the bar so only saw a little of this match but i did see Stoxx and Ginha walk out with the W.

The Insane - “Dead and Gone” 100% Hardcore Punk Song released in 1981. Compilation released in 1998. Punk Rock / Hardcore Punk
Back in the early 80s, the large town of Wigan in Greater Manchester, England was known for having two energetic and ferocious punk bands: The System and The Insane. Actually, scratch that. It was actually more like two and a half punk bands. See, The Insane split themselves into two at one point and both bands ended up calling themselves by the same name. I mean, that's both highly confusing and utterly insane, right? I get the idea of there being multiple bands with the same name and all of them hailing from completely different parts of a country, but two bands with the same name from the same town? Patently absurd! Although, now that I think about it, my not-that-large of a college town had two Chinese restaurants called Ling Ling and neither one had anything to do with the other. So fuck me, I guess, right?
Anyhoo, before their silly split, The Insane were pretty good practitioners of the UK82 sound; that second wave stuff that cranked up the fuzz-distortion and quickened the pace and sang about the fascist, Thatcher-run hellscape of a predicament that they found themselves in during a time of Cold War uncertainty. It was music that sounded like it was made post-nuclear holocaust. And it was wild.
The Insane formed in '79, but their debut record, a three-song 7-inch called Politics, wouldn't come out until 1981. And Politics managed to make it to #18 on the UK indie charts and stayed on those charts for five weeks. But the funny thing about Politics was that the band's frontman, Barry Taberner, was unable to attend the recording session, which left Simon "Psycho" Middlehurst, the guitarist, to unexpectedly take up lead vocal duties, too. The mixing of the record sucked, but Middlehurst did a bang-up enough job to get that record to chart, which is a sort of remarkable thing, all things considered.
Contained on Politics is its middle track, "Dead and Gone," which is a song that pretty much exemplifies the whole UK82 ethos. Middlehurst's chords of highly fuzzy distortion come in short, little, thrashy waves, sounding something like a more inebriated and rawer version of Motörhead's "Ace of Spades" while Dave "Bambi" Ellesmere's drums shuffle and gallop beneath. Middlehurst sings about the futility of war and gang life, as he tells the brief and bleak tale of a nihilistic 18-year old boy who "joined the army just for fun," but is now dead. Middlehurst could also be cleverly equivocating the army with a street gang, which in that case, cool, but it's hard to say definitively. Songs tend to be up to the listener's interpretation, after all.
Good song that this popular punk band in Wigan made before their dumb split.

Reccomend some dark synth
i’m not sure if you meant like, dark synth in terms of bands that specifically label themselves that, or just in more general sense of like, any dark music that uses synths, but some of the stuff i put near the begining of the list is in the ballpark of the kinda synthwave/outrun stuff that tends to get labeled “dark synth”. most of the rest of the list is more like indie/darkwave crossover stuff tho, which tends to be more what i’m into.
lately i’ve been really into:
The Streets Run Red by Timothy Fife & Dave Ellesmere
Wolf in the Night by Ritual Veil
The Demonstration by Drab Majesty
Holding On by Sally Dige
Night Voyeur by True Lust
Country Girl EP by Boy Harsher
Marble Hands by Lyfe Indoors
No Pop by Odonis Odonis
Pantheon of Me by SPELLLING
Okovi by Zola Jesus

“Then came old January, wrapped well In many weeds to keep the cold away Yet did he quake and quiver like to quell And blewe his nails to warm then if he may” Edmund Spenser.
Visiting Bickerton Hill for the first time since the Sandstone Trail in May 2016. (please see also the first post from the trip).
Rising from the flat Cheshire Plain, this is an obvious defensive site and, working with natural features, Iron Age folk built Maiden Castle as part of what became called the Habitats and Hillforts network.
Unlike nearby Beeston, this site has not been fortified or fought for in modern times (though it was used as a military training camp in World War 2) and the only fighting that takes place today is for a parking space, though it’s easy to see why this was a prized posession and almost impossible to take, both for its prominence and the excellent views to be had from here.
In 1991 benefactor Leslie Wheeldon enabled the National Trust to buy the site in memory of his wife Kitty and this has been a great gift, where I stood in 2016 and hatched many plans to visit the places I could see; please see the first post for some of these, and I added to the list
This is down to the excellent job done by long-time warden Dave Morris, who died in 2014 but whose work, like that of the Wheeldon family, lives for all time in the work now being done by the National Trust.
The views are stunning and gave me many ideas for trips I later undertook, as you can also see in my other post; Jodrell Bank (4 today, 5 in April 2017), (6) the industrial megalopolis of Ellesmere Port, Liverpool (7 today, 8 in June 2016; I was there within a month of seeing the city from Bickerton) with the great Gladstone Dock, opened in 1927.
Across from here is my next destination (9,10) Rawhead, highest point on my route, though the views aren’t quite as good. When you are here, there will be a lot to see and plan your next journey so where- if you need anything more than Bickerton- will you be inspired to go next?

The next morning was the same course of events as the day before: wake up at four forty A.M., get dressed and ready to go on a plane to Antarctica, and then getting the news that the flight has been delayed, this time for forty-eight hours. With luck, we’ll be leaving New Zealand on Monday. I had sort of planned for this, so as soon as we got the news, a group of seven of us bought tickets to Akaroa, a small coastal town 90 minutes away. There was Isabel, Alec, Chloe, Maya, Caitlin, Dave, and myself. We took a bus to the central bus terminal and got into a bright red van with a cheery woman named Sue. This was her first day on the job. The weather was cold and overcast, but I was really excited to explore more of New Zealand.
Akaroa is a tourist town on the Banks Peninsula, about ninety minutes from Christchurch. It juts out like a…thumb(?) from the eastern coast. It is very clearly three overlapping volcano, and Akaroa lies in the center of the youngest caldera which stopped erupting six million years ago.
Akaroa has the distinction of having been a French settlement for all of ten minutes. In early 1800s, French whalers picked out Akaroa, which means “Long Harbor” in Maori, as a possible spot for a settlement. They went back to France to get their families and returned just as the British government signed a treaty with the Maori. I imagine there was an exchanging of “What are you doing here?”, exasperated sighs, and shrugging. Clearly the French people were allowed to stay, but were only allowed to use the French language in a cutesy, fake tourist attraction way. No one after the first generation of settlers spoke French.

Definitely not a drumlin

Winding our way out of the city and suburbs, we soon were driving through flat farmland.  The flatness was then interrupted by the occasional mound of grass-covered sandstone and igneous boulders. I thought they were drumlins, but I’m not so sure.

We passed by Lake Ellesmere, a tidal lake, the fifth biggest lake in New Zealand, but only 2 meters deeps at its deepest. It’s very difficult to photograph, from a moving car, but I tried.

Lake Forsyth
Lake Forsyth is also on the way, it’s known for eel fishing. Also nearby is Birdlings Flat, where semi-precious stones appear on the shore after earthquakes.
Tumblr media
Little River
We briefly stopped in the town of Little River for a pit stop. The town used to be the center of a lumbering industry, and logs were sent down the river to be processed. Once we left Little River, we began to climb higher and higher into the mountains. Our ears popped, and pretty soon we could see the verdant mountains extend off into the distance. I wasn’t in a good position for photos, unfortunately.
We reached the summit and began to drive down into the next valley, where Akaroa is. We stopped at a vista, and it was truly beautiful to see the rolling green hills and the blue water beneath, all ringed with mountains.
The way down was incredibly windy, but getting closer to the inlet yielded more excellent views. Our bus driver said there were no buildings left from the French colonial period, but a couple left from Prohibition-era New Zealand. I asked when New Zealand’s Prohibition was, and she answered with the definition of “prohibition”. “Not what, when.” Another passenger stepped in to help: “He’s asking wheeen.” (Rhyming with “seen”). A bit of a language barrier. New Zealand’s Prohibition was in the late 1800’s to early 1900s.

We stopped and got out next to a quaint farmer’s market by the water. The town was just from the first glance very cute. The buildings all flew tiny plastic French flags. We sat and drank coffee at an outdoor cafe next to the farmer’s market. Little kids were running around. Apparently drip coffee is only an American beverage? I thought drip coffee was the first tier of coffee drinks everywhere, the spaghetti with butter of coffee. While we drank and chatted, the clouds dispersed and the sun came out. Hopefully you can see the change in the lighting of my photos.

There were a couple remnants of the town’s past. There was a plaque commemorating the 100th anniversary of French arrival, a larger French flag, and a cooking pot for whale oil, the industry that first drew colonists in the 1800s.

There was also a memorial for those that died in wars: WW2, WW1, and the Second Boer War (1899-1902). There were a number of tourist businesses that offered swimming with the rare Hector’s dolphin, the world’s smallest dolphin, which only live around New Zealand.

Panorama of Akaroa Harbor
We had lunch at a fish and chips place, much better than the greasy mess of the previous day. This fish was battered thinly and tasted fresh. Afterwards, we continued walking to the lighthouse at the edge of town. It was a squat little building, but it overlooked a number of ancient lava flows. They were faded and were slowly crumbling into the ocean, but still had a distinct pattern of a lava flow. Across the way was some kind of silty deposit with some stratified parts, what I think was a landslide deposit with rip-ups. As often happens with a group of geologists, we spent way too long looking at, touching, and licking various portions of the sedimentary structure.
Our next destination was a waterfall at the top of town. We walked up one of the mountain-ascending roads, passed beautiful houses with porches looking over the ocean and sweet-smelling fruit trees.
Tumblr media
Climbing up to the waterfall
It seemed strange that in only a few days we would be surrounded by cold desolation. Up and up we climbed. The paved road became a dirt road, which led to a little trail. We kept passing tiny trickles of water, and asking if this was the waterfall the signs had mentioned. All of us were wearing clothes too warm for the climate, as we had expected to be travelling right away to Antarctica. The walked up a forested slope until we came to a clearing.

The waterfall looked like concept art from Disney’s Moana. We stared in awe at it for a little while and then descended down.
Our last stop before getting back on the shuttle was a another bite to eat at one of the French bakeries. I ordered a white chocolate- nectarine muffin. Dave ordered a whipped cream-filled cronut. The waiter added an -s to cronut, and no one corrected him, so a few minutes later, two cronuts appeared on the table. Everything was warmed up in the oven before serving.. The muffin was warm and buttery, and had pieces of citrus and white chocolate. The cronut was overflowing with whipped cream, it was sickeningly sweet just to look at it. Stuffed beyond comfort, we went back onto the shuttle and had a relaxing ride back.
We knew we had another day of relaxation due to delays, so I stayed up late with Isabel and Caitlin, eating take-out Indian and watching the first twenty minutes of Moana, before I conked out.
Impromptu Trip to “France” The next morning was the same course of events as the day before: wake up at four forty A.M., get dressed and ready to go on a plane to Antarctica, and then getting the news that the flight has been delayed, this time for forty-eight hours.

Creme 12-73 - Legowelt - Crystal Cult 2080 Album Sampler (Out November 2013) by Creme Organization Legowelt - Crystal Cult 2080 Album News, EP announcement Irrepressible Dutchman Legowelt is to release a new album in the coming months. Entitled ‘Crystal Code 2080’, it will come on Creme Organization and is preceded by a sampler EP that features one track from it. That track is ‘Crystal Cult 2080’, a melodically mystic production that is alive with Legowelt’s usual synthesiser magic. The other three tracks are just as muddled and multi-layered, texturally rich and typically Legowelt. They include the eeriness of ‘majestic Alchemy’, the stormy and filmic emotions of ‘Mistral’ and classic house jack of ‘Do What U Gotta Do’ with its mesmerising synth lines and deep moods. The ‘2080’ part of the album title is taken from the Roland JV2080, a legendary digital synthesizer from the nineties that was used a lot in the making of the album. Bought second-hand in Tokyo for a couple of hundred dollars, it lends the record a very dewy eyed soul, whilst the ‘Crystal’ part of the title stands for the self-made ‘DIY germanium crystal compressor’ Legowelt used throughout the writing process. The album itself features ten new tracks of pure Legowelt music mainly recorded in De Hague in the past year, but also on the road during tours of LA, the Californian desert, Tokyo (which spawned ‘Crystal Cult 2080’) and Tejada Gran Canaria (where ‘The Future of Myself’ was written.) Where his last album The Paranormal Soul was an organic trip into misty forests, this one seems more concerned with medieval spirits; it’s deeper, darker and the whole thing is tied together by a more coherent sense of ancient alchemy. Given the use of a DIY germanium crystal compressor during production, it’s no wonder everything feels warm, fuzzy and mystic in a way that draws your attention in like that fabled philosopher’s stone… glare too long and you might just turn to stone. Right from the opening track the mood is so encapsulating you are drawn right into Danny Wolfers’ mysterious electronic world. From there various different tempos are explored and plenty of famed synthesiser work comes to the fore, wrapping grooves in trippy themes, impish spirits and plenty of organic lushness. Return of the Native
View this email in your browser Hello everyone, here's an update on the new album, gigs & video... The new Vinny Peculiar album 'Return of the Native' comes out 1st June 2018, a Worcestershire themed record inspired by my return to the midlands. It started life in Ellesmere Port with regular VP musicians Paul Tsanos [drums], Bobby Kewley [Bass. Cello] Rob Steadman [Keys] & Leah Walch [b/vocals]. After further recording/editing in my home studio the record was completed at Unit 31 in Pershore with Dave Draper & I producing. Its a noisy band affair, muscular and glam rockish in parts, jangling and anthemic, I'm really pleased with the way its turned out and excited to be sharing the news with you. 'Return of the Native' is available to pre order on CD through the VP site or via Bandcamp [where you can also stream/preview tracks] and through any number of digital music providers including iTunes and Amazon. I'm planning on pressing Vinyl copies later in the year, do let me know if this is something that you'd be interested in so I can gauge demand. Video update... 'The 'Malvern Winter Gardener' video, shot by Andy Squiff, is here now. Further videos for 'Game Over' and 'The Grove & The Ditch' are in the pipeline so please do look out for them on social media and share with friends. Rob Steadman and I are playing a few gigs over the summer in support of the record, new songs, old songs, any requests do email me and we'll do our best to oblige. It would be lovely to see you there. More gigs TBC, check the VP sitefor details. Shrewsbury + Boost for north Shropshire’s bees thanks to Shropshire Council’s new countryside membership scheme
North Shropshire’s bees are set for a brighter future thanks to money raised from Shropshire Council’s new countryside membership scheme.
The ‘Shropshire’s Great Outdoors’ scheme was launched in December 2016 with all membership fees put towards the maintenance of Shropshire Council’s countryside parks and sites.
Now, the money raised in the first year of the scheme is to be used to improve and enhance the Bee Metropolis that sits alongside The Mere at Ellesmere and provides a home to solitary bees and other invertebrates. (see notes)
The Bee Metropolis at The Mere in Ellesmere
The planned work includes enhanced wildflower beds and new information boards showing types of British bees and the food plants they require to survive.
It will be carried out in early summer 2018, and the start of work will be marked with a special bee-themed day of events and activities at the site, including a bee safari run by the Bumblebee Conservation Trust. Further details will be announced shortly.
Meanwhile, the Shropshire’s Great Outdoors scheme has been developed for its second year to appeal to a greater range of people, and the list of member benefits has also been revised and improved.
The scheme now offers joint and family membership, in addition to the existing individual membership.
As well as free parking at Shropshire Council’s countryside sites, members of the scheme can now benefit from discounts at The Boathouse in Ellesmere, and The Severn Valley County Park café, and on room bookings at the Warden’s Bungalow in Ellesmere – plus 10% discount on many events at Theatre Severn and the Old Market Hall in Shrewsbury, and 10% discounts on events being held at Severn Valley Country Park.
Members also get a 10% discount at Dave Mellor Cycles in Shrewsbury, 10% discount on all pony trekking adventures at The Long Mountain between Welshpool and Shrewsbury, and 10% off on clothing and equipment at High Sports in Shrewsbury.
It’s hoped that the list of member benefits will continue to grow in the coming year.
Lezley Picton, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for culture and leisure, said:
“In the first year some 50 people have joined the Great Outdoors Scheme, raising around £1300 which will now be used to enhance the Bee Metropolis and give our bees a brighter future.
“We’re really pleased with the response the scheme has had in its first year, but we want the scheme to appeal to a greater and wider range of people so I’m delighted that we can now offer joint and family memberships, and that we can offer a greater and more attractive range of discounts and benefits to members.
“The more people that join, the more money we will raise to help manage and develop our valuable countryside sites and parks – so if people sign up both they and our sites really will benefit.”
Shaun Burkey, country parks and sites officer with Shropshire Council, said:
“The Bee Metropolis was created for our bees which, as we know, are suffering terribly due to a number of factors including pesticides and a lack of nectar-rich flowering plants. When three beech trees became diseased and had to be felled we decided to create the Bee Metropolis. Deadwood is great for insects providing food for birds and mammals. Hundreds of holes have also been drilled into the deadwood, and these are used by solitary bees as nest chambers.
“Nectar-rich cornfield flower-beds have been planted around the Bee Metropolis and we hope visitors will be inspired to plant bee-friendly plants in their gardens to give our bees a chance for their and our futures.”
The  Mere country park is managed and maintained by Shropshire Council.

Further information
The Bee Metropolis
Constructed by local artist Caroline Lowe in 2015, the Bee Metropolis is sited at the sunny centre of an area of Cremorne Gardens that was previously overgrown and unmanaged, but which is now extensively covered with wildflower meadows and new trees selected for their colour and form.
It was built from three beech trees that were diseased and need to be felled at this spot. This has been stacked in a way and drilled with hundreds of holes that will give a home to solitary bees and a whole array of other invertebrates.

Tracks from the Top Ten Blogged Bands are played
every Sunday 5-7pm on Radio KC as part of
Ralph's Indie Show.
LISTEN TO LAST WEEK'S TOP 10 HERE
AS PLAYED ON RADIO KC - 6.8.17
RALPH'S BRAND NEW TOP 10 CHART
12.8.17 and as played on
RALPH'S INDIE SHOW on RADIO KC - 13.8.17 from 5-7pm
No 1: RiD
RiD are a Coventry based band with links to Birmingham and Wales.  In 2007, Dave Cooke (rhythm guitar and songwriter) and Ricky Hogan (vocals) formed the band as a response to frustration over the media’s obsession with the current dire X Factor pop culture.
No 2: Fjokra
Following critical acclaim for the Fjokra single Sick Kids, which saw Tom Robinson, Fresh On The Net’s Chris McBride and Duran Duran’s John Taylor all recognise the considerable talent emanating from this highly original progressive-pop fourpiece. Fjokra now release Bang On TheDoor, a new single that again, showcases their multi-faceted talent and points of inspiration. The song came about when band main-man and multi-instrumentalist Fi (full name Fiachra Mac Oireachtai) was performing at Notting Hill Carnival.
No 3: Joel Thomas
Ralph's favourite this week is Sunshine Funshine by Joel Thomas. ralph played the track on Sunday's Indie Show on Radio KC.
Joel Thomas is a twenty-two year old singer songwriter from Liverpool and he is the latest signing to Edge Hill University's in-house, indie record label.
No 4: Sacre Noir
Ralph's favourite video this week is Rebels and Loners by Edinburgh's Sacre Noir.
Having played tracks previously on Ralph's Radio KC Indie Show it's a bitter-sweet choice as Sacre Noir is in the process of winding up the musical journey and this will be the last video offering. However, Sacre Noir is going out in no small amount of style with this final offering.
No 5: SONS
Brighton's SONS release Zealot is arguably their biggest, most mainstream track to date.
First two Singles, Reptiles and A Love Song? have both done exceptionally well with everyone from Radio X to BBC Intro and of course Ralph on Radio KC heaping praise plus repeat spins on brothers Lee and Nick.
Zealot is hailed by SONS as "a song for the times, a scream to engage with the desire for change. A potent and powerful commercial blast that hits your heart and your head with SONS typical uncompromising venom."
No 6: Titors Insignia
Ralph's favourite video this week is From Dusk Til Dawn by St Helens rockers Titors Insignia.
They are one of the hardest working bands in the North West and proper rock 'n' rollers who never fail to disappoint live.
Titors Insignia - From Dusk Til Dawn, Official Music Video
Filmed by Wasp Video
No 7: Antonio Lulic
False Positives is the long awaited, chilling new single from Antonio Lulic, taken from his forthcoming EP Departures concerning the police killing of innocent Londoner Jean Charles de Menezes, in the aftermath of the 7/7 London bombings.
The sincerity in Antonio Lulic's voice is palpable on the single and Ralph's already given False Positives a play on the Radio KC Indie Show. With or without the assistance of Mr Sheeran Antonio Lulic is destined to become a shining star.
No 8: Benbo
Multi-instrumentalist and cartoonist Benbo is set to release his new single Gravity Pulls Me Down 22nd September via PKLZD.
Tipped by Pigeons & Planes, Eddy Temple Morris and BBC Introducing, and co-signed by Cooking Vinyl, the former London resident has flown the capital to somewhere in the north of the UK that he will only describe as ‘The Bunker’, where he has amassed over four days worth of unreleased music over a vault of various hard drives.
No 9: Oranj Son
Oranj Son are a four piece Psych Punk band from Ellesmere Port comprising Kieran Linford (guitar & vocals), Lew Yii (drums), Brad Welch-Harley (bass) and Matthew Linford (keys/synths).
The band, whose influences range from Echo and the Bunnymen and Teardrop Explodes to LCD Soundsystem and Sonic Youth, have been together for two years and Oranj Son have already made a big impact on Liverpool's music scene since they made their live debut at Sound City in 2015.
10: Wozniak
Edinburgh shoegazers Wozniak head south for a handful of shows in the next few weeks, touring their debut album Courage Reels.
The band have teamed up with Ralph's favourites Goodsouls Promotions to put together the dates in London, Brighton (in conjunction with Acid Box Promotions), Leeds and Salford. Other than in London, this will be their debut in each of these places. Live, Wozniak are loud, intense and powerful.
