Something that breaks my heart but also fuels me about naegami is knowing that if the events of THH didn't happen that they would never be close and Byakuya would likely be lonely and cold forever and follow in his family's footsteps more and more.

In the V3 bonus mode where everyone is just at Hope's Peak together you see that Byakuya and Makoto don't really cross paths much. Makoto has more people to talk to and Byakuya kind of avoids everyone unless he runs into them on accident, is on a similar level with them (such as royalty) or finds them useful in some way. Makoto looks normal and does not come across as useful to Byakuya so he has no reason to seek him out. They are not forced to interact as much, or as intimately, and Byakuya likely doesn't need to follow any strict rules given who he is, and there is definitely nothing keeping them together after they graduate. There is always the small chance they might run into eachother again in the future, but seeing how different their lives are it's not very likely.

The killing game on the other hand kept them in close quarters, smaller and smaller numbers, and forced them to interact and get to know eachother the best they can in order to try and survive. Makoto still doesn't prove himself to be useful to Byakuya but Byakuya warms up to his companionship and even more importantly he finds that he can trust Makoto, which is extremely important for his survival. He tries to keep Makoto alive after he starts to trust him because it helps both of them, and he doesn't really trust anyone else. Makoto shows him what hope and friendship are when he might not have ever found either of those things if he was not caught in such a horrible situation.

So in the alternate universe where they don't get thrown into a killing game you end up with a very normal Makoto who likely goes on to live a fairly normal life, and a very cold and lonely Byakuya who likely rules his empire with an iron fist and a heart of stone. But in the canon timeline where they are forced into the killing game, Makoto finds greater purpose in his life and Byakuya finds a friend or partner that he genuinely cares for and wants to do better for and protect.

I’m almost finished playing the first danganronpa game and I’ve just found out who the mastermind is (please don’t give me any spoilers beyond that reveal) and I fully stand by the opinion that the worst thing Junko has ever done is bring this room into existence

I ranted to my partner about this room for a good 10 minutes and I will keep doing so because it’s the ugliest room I think I’ve ever seen. Yeah she killed her sister and stuff. Whatever. But Junko is the ultimate fashionista and yet she subjected so many peoples eyes to this atrocity!! Unforgivable😔 /hj

#literally nothing in there is the same colour. and I don’t like it #even the stuff that is the same colour is a different shade!#also wtf are those double curtains. and they’re pink and green too! just stop #it’s not even a subtle pink and green either. these colours really said go bright or go home #theyre the same colours as neon highlighters. and I hate it #not to mention the fading tiles on the wall…just why?#no tile in this room is the same shade and I hate it #also wtf is going on with those pillars?!#the hot pink curtains and tiles paired with the red tiles on the floor…the more I look at this room the more it upsets me #somehow the brown wooden stand in the middle makes the room worse to me. like they couldn’t even have that matching #it looks like the colour wheel threw up on it #the curtains really said “the wizard of Oz: barbie addition”#Makoto said he was blinded going into this trial by a white light. Watching DRA: Another Despair Academy is reminding me of some of the thoughts and theories I had back when I played Trigger Happy Havoc.

THH and DR V3 spoilers below the cut:

Like, how I theorized that the school was in another dimension when we got glimpses of the outside world being covered in orange smog, and that maybe the school was transported into the middle of space after seeing the room with the air purifier...

like in DR V3.

Also, I remember predicting that Yasuhira Hagakure was going to be the last death (because he was comic relief), and that the death would somehow involve the chickens (because it would be cruel, he seemed to like the chickens in the final setting). I'm still glad that one didn't happen and that he was one of the survivors.

if the first execution in the series is always the harshest than what the hell happened with teruteru’s execution.

honestly leon’s execution was perfect for how despair inducing it was. not only did it hurt physically, it also reduced him down to his talent, which he hated. he wanted to be a musician, but by getting reduced down to his talent of a baseball player by having a baseball themed execution, it’s just even more despair inducing for him??

kaede’s execution along with most of the executions in v3 are very very brutal but they may not be as despair inducing… scratch that, i think v3 has the strongest executions. dr2’s executions just weren’t that good, and they weren’t very memorable to be honest. dr2’s trial 4 was very very sad though i’ll say that :). same with the 2nd, but the sadness of it doesn’t make the executions any better.

i’d say the best execution of each game would be trial 3 for thh, trial 2 for sdr2, and either trial 1 or 5 for drv3.

ok so im watching two people go in completely blind and omg are they polar opposites. one of them had it figured out that leon killed sayaka before the investigation phase even started and the other one is still holding onto his theory that mondo will kill taka at some point like I'm gonna cry bc of how just wrong he is. like i unironically ship them and he's like "biker dude is gonna kill ultimate teacher's pet" LIKE BRUH😭

also they just started chapter 2 and the smart one thinks mondo is gonna kill toko and blame byakuya and the irony of how close she is is hilarious.
