I'm obsessive over my Constantine Jr Au (which still needs a fic name for, I'm open to suggestions) because

this is a cranky danny. he's spent years fighting with no end in sight, with parents who he can't trust and his only companions never truly understanding what he's going through.

he vapes CBD for the pain he's constantly in. he drank alco/hol once to help him sleep, but his parents smelt it on his breath and, just like with their research, took that to believe EVERYTHING they'd ever suspected about danny to be true: that he drinks, he does dru/gs, he's in a gang. the only thing they've never suspected their son of--being a ghost--is the one thing he actually does.

then, right on the cusp of eighteen and freedom, he gets outed. AND transformed into a seven-year-old.

this is not a danny who is willing to play at being a child. and if anyone tries to, they're in for a foul time.

Danny was 17, transformed into a 7 year old and hides in Bludhaven, and is 8 when the police finally figure out that, hey, this weird kid who keeps altering us to crime scenes is usually right on the money about who the killer is, we should investigate that. Officer Grayson is on the case!

And discovers that he absolutely can't STAND this kid.

He thought he liked kids! Everyone thought he liked kids! but this kid...

This isn't called the Constantine Jr AU because Danny is a supernatural detective, or because Danny might be Constantine's kid. Its because Danny is an unrepentant little bas/tard and he makes it everyone's problem.

Danny vapes and blows bubblegum smoke in Grayson's face.

He takes out a flask and Grayson's grabs it, learning its full of orange juice. Danny then takes out a second flask, this one with vod/ka.

He wears a trenchcoat he found in the trash (the same trenchcoat Nightwing wears in DC vs Vampires, if you know you know) but the end and the sleeves are cut off for his hands and legs. the pockets are roughly around his knees.

Grayson is desperate to figure out more about this kid, but he doesn't go to batman because, time-line wise, this is right before red hood starts running around. Jason is dead/alive-in-hiding, Tim is Robin, and Dick is mad about it. (ages-- Bruce: ? Nightwing: 24 Jason: 19 Tim: 15 Danny: 8 Damien: 7-8)

he doesn't really bond with the kid until they're both kidnapped by a gang for hostages, and Danny's big kid emotions get a hold of him (he thought he could escape them bc he's an adult, he's gone through worse, but nope! child brain chemistry). Grayson is worried that he's hurt and in pain, but Danny confesses that he's always in pain. he has nerve damage all over his body, and the only thing he really trusts is CBD. He feels like shit for taking his juul away, but more importantly, because he's been treating Danny like a irritant and just a little kid.

they get rescued and Grayson tries to take him back to his home, but Danny reveals he's homeless, saying something like "I sleep where it suits me, just drop me off whereever."

Absolutely not, Grayson is taking kid back to his place for a bed, food, and a shower, in whatever order the kid wants.

Danny stays semi-perminantly at his apartment, but Nightwing tries not to push it, because this kid practically screams flight risk. unfortunately, the paparazzi have nothing better to do and snap a pick of Grayson and Danny getting dinner together, speculating that Dick's taken after Bruce

Danny doesn't care too much; I think his ghost form is the same, if glitchy, so his parents don't know about the deaging. Grayson is mildly panicking, but its not like he HASN'T been considering adopting the evil troglodyte. Even Bruce, Tim, and Alfred aren't the problem.

No, the problem is the Red Hood, a crime boss who just cut 8 people's heads off, seeing what looks like Nightwing pulling an innocent kid into the neverending fight against crime and Seeing Green.

1.       Basic rule differences

a.       Not everybody has soulmates

b.       Not everybody who has a soulmate only has one at a time

c.       Soulmates do not have to be romantic—they are often assumed to be, because of amatonormativity, but it’s pretty common to have platonic bonds or completely ignored bonds. Soulmates are an option, that’s all.

d.       Soulmates do not have to be people—they can’t be non-sapient things or animals as far as anyone knows, but someone can be soulmates with a city or a song or a piece of art. It’s weird, but it does happen. The average citizen doesn’t know this, but doctors will.

e.       Not everybody who has a soulmate, knows they have a soulmate.

2.       Types of soul bond

a.       Red string of fate – grows more taut the closer you are geographically

b.       First words – the first words (if any) that your soulmate says are on your body, may appear only after meeting

c.       Last words – the last words (if any) that your sm says are on your body, may only appear after meeting

d.       Color touch – blooms of color appear on your body where your sm has touched

e.       Countdown – each sm has a countdown on their body in unspecified units until either they meet their sm or the sm dies. These are two different variants, just indistinguishable until meeting/death.

f.        Color vision – you are completely monochrome colorblind until you meet your sm

g.       Tattoo – each sm has a tattoo-like pattern, which move to interact when sms are in contact

h.       Shared skin – your skin shares the same marks

i.         Deathless – sms cannot kill each other, often combined with another

j.         Emo bond – sms share strong emotions without context

Chapter 11

Summary:  Timberwolf helps Batman stop Joker, this time knocking both him and his goons out.  Also, Dan gets a choice, go after the Fentons and cause trouble, or help save Gotham?

“Are you awake?”  Dan groans, “I’m always awake when you talk.”  The area around him starts to shake, “Alright!  Fine, the fuck do you want?”  “Language, first off, then I’ll give you a choice.”  

Suddenly, he’s within the clocktower, “This is an image that has refused to disappear, it varies, but one detail remains the same,”  Clockwork, in the form of an elderly man, points to the screen, “You’re with the Romanova-Wayne family.”  Dan looks at the picture; on his shoulders are two kids, his past-self clone, Dani if he remembers correctly, and some other twirp.  Cujo is lying in the background; multiple kids in costumes surround the two men in the center.  “Who are those guys,” Dan inquires; Clockwork smiles; the screen changes to reveal both men in costume, fighting a clown.  “You will find out soon enough if you choose to go down this path of redemption?”

“You must know that their names are Batman and Timberwolf; both are dating.  Oh, and Damien will defend young Daniels’ honor by trying to cut you down,”  he gets shoved into the screen.  “If you work to redeem yourself, I will add you to the timeline you are currently in, cause trouble,” Dan rolls his eyes.  “ Yeah, I know, thermos.”  The portal closes, the full ghost hybrid looks around; a crash startles him.

“I must say, Batsy,” the clown from before jumps onto the rafter above him, “I hate that you replaced me.”  He throws a card, only for it to get cut in half; Timberwolf hops over to the clown.  With a cackle, the clown pulls out, ‘Is that a pop-gun?’  The clown aims, a metal boomerang hits his hand; Timberwolf knocks him down.  “You’re jokes are toast, Joker,” said clown falls onto a giant cat plushie.

While invisible, Dan steps out; both masked heroes tie up Joker; Timberwolf looks up.  Batman looks up, “What is it?”  Timberwolf moves to grab his batons, “Timberwolf, what is,” a blur flies past them.  Dan turns visible, clutching his gut; Phantom hovers before him.  The ghost looks up with annoyance, “Give me one good reason I shouldn’t use this on you?”

Dan holds his hands up, looking down, “It wasn’t my idea.  My guess is Clockwork got tired of me in his tower.”  Phantom charges an ectoblast; a hand rests on his shoulder, “Who, or what is that?”  A man, wearing a red bike helmet, is leaning against his younger self; Phantom chuckles, “Oh, you know, my evil future-self.”  Red hood, for apparent reasons, slowly nods his head, looking back to Dan, then Phantom, “What fucked you up so bad?”

Dan finds himself in the rumored Batcave; Batman writes a report while Timberwolf cleans Robins’ cuts.  “Bubba, you need to be more careful; I know you do this often, but still, care for yourself when there are no civilians to worry about.”  Robin doesn’t answer, choosing to stare at Dan instead, “Who is that, and why is he here?”  All three phantoms, and Timberwolf, say the name, ‘Clockwork,’ the bats look at each other.  Danny sighs, clapping his hands, “A story for everyone to be present to hear; I don't like repeating it.”

“Can you turn into a human-like Danny can,” the question is asked by Duke, a kid Daniel met while staying in Gotham for a week.  Dan hums, then closes his eyes; Danny Fenton, with red eyes, looks at everyone.  “How about closer to either Jason’s or Dick’s height,” Dan closes his eyes again; he opens them.  “What, you’re all staring at me,” then notices the change; he’s taller.  “Bruce,” every set of eyes looks at the man, Daniel pulls out a file, “I’ve already forged some birth documents for Dan.”

Clockwork did give Dan some advice; Damien and Ellie are demon spawns.  The first coffee he treats himself to is spiked with salt, causing him to gag and cough.  The second prank has him covered in glitter; after his shower, he finds Daniel telling Ellie she’s a bad influence.  Dinner for the first is spaghetti and meat sauce; Dan cleans his plate, yet he doesn’t feel complete.  The night he finds a can of pure ectoplasm on his guestroom bedside table, a note from Jazz is attached, with three signatures, ‘Welcome to the family, love, Jazz Ellie and Danny.’

Daniel sets down his book; Bruce lays in bed, “You’re thinking.”  Daniel settles into the covers, “Yeah, about Dan being here and why Clockwork sent him.”  Bruce cups his face, “I’m sure if something bad is to happen, Green Lantern or John would say some cryptic shit.”  Daniel chuckles, kissing the man on his lips, “You may be right; I’ve gotten used to Danny and Ellie, I’ll get used to Dan.”

When it comes to this year’s Survivor Series, things look great at the top.

We’re all excited to see just how The Undertaker will give his Final Farewell and just how will the WWE present it to us. It’s rumored that we could have guests like Kurt Angle, The Godfather to be joined by Triple H and Shawn Michaels. The Phenom deserves a proper send=off! 

Outside of the traditional 5-on-5 matches, it’s champion vs. champion across the board. Roman Reigns vs. new RAW champion Drew McIntyre has that big fight feel. Asuka vs. Sasha Banks, although we’ve seen it before on multiple times, is still very good no matter the venue. Plus, The New Day and The Street Profits looks really good on paper and actually has some history lately with Big E supporting his teammates from across the show on SmackDown. I wonder if we get a heel turn for TSP and they end up beating up Big E at some point. Not really feeling the Sami Zayn vs. Bobby Lashley match as there’s no real consequence and no real heat between the two.

As for those elimination matches, both have done nothing in the build-up to their respective matches. It’s been all about how Team RAW hates each other. What a difference a year makes as one year ago, we were all excited about how Team NXT would fare across the board against RAW and SmackdDown. This year, do we really care which side wins? Not me folks. All of the bickering has left me disinterested as I’m sure the WWE will try to force some kind of Lana survives angle only to be dropped through a table again.

Monday Night RAW was all about the main event folks. Putting the title back on Drew McIntyre, as we’ve said before, is a good move. Randy Orton earned his win at Hell in the Cell, but Orton vs. Reigns had no feel for it. In just 5 seconds last Friday night, McIntyre and Reigns already felt like a heavyweight fight. They have history in the Royal Rumble. And they have the look of two big behemoths battling for one night and one night only (for now). I ilke it. I love it. I want some more of it. Good move for Survivor Series and for Monday nights beyond. Now, where does this leave Orton for Survivor Series? Also, I am digging the McIntyre/Sheamus vibe with their backstage vignettes. I wonder if Sheamus is lulling his old friend to sleep only to turn on him for a title show?

Now, outside of The New Day’s title defense of the RAW Tag Team Titles, the rest of RAW wasn’t really that good.

RETRIBUTION vs. Team RAW was just a waste of time and I’ll be ecstatic that we don’t have to hear about captains and who doesn’t like each other between Keith Lee, Sheamus, Riddle, AJ Styles and Braun Strowman any more. I have no rooting interest in any of it. The same can be said on the women’s side of Team RAW as well. Enough of Nia Jax & Shayna Baszler against Lana. YAWN! And now they drop Dana Brooke & Mandy Rose for Lacey Evans & Peyton Royce. Does nothing for me either way, although Evans is an upgrade, not that they’ll do anything with it, though.

Wednesday night was on fire at Capitol Wrestling Center. Kudos to the women’s division that stole the night! Io Shirai and Rhea Ripley absolutely ripped it apart in the main event in another NXT classic championship match where both ladies come out strong and Shirai looks unstoppable at the top. Adding to that, we got the announcement from Shotzi Blackheart that War Games is coming December 6th. It looks like we’ll get Candice LeRae, Indi Hartwell, Raquel Gonzalez and Dakota Kai against Blackheart, Ember Moon, Toni Storm and TBD in what is shaping up to be an amazing match. BTW: Moon and Storm are everything Dana Brooke and Mandy Rose whould be on RAW. I can see them being future tag champs if the WWE wanted to go down that route. They are that damn good! Another good showing too for Kayden Carter & Kacy Catanzaro. Losing to LeRae & Hartwell is nothing to be ashamed of as they’re getting better each week.

On the men’s side of War Games, NXT Champion Finn Balor returned to close the show. But, when Baor was challenged to bow down his title to Pat McAfee and his new crew – The Kings of NXT, Balor brought out the returning Adam Cole and the rest of The Undisputed Era. Chaos closes the show as McAfee takes a wicked stiff shot to the face from Cole to end the night. TUE are veterans of War Games and it should be interesting to see how McAfee, Oney Lorcan, Danny Burch and Pete Dunn fare in their debut in the cages! It’ll also be interesting to see if McAfee actually gets into the match or if there’s a fourth member coming to join The Kings of NXT.

Good to see The New Day and The Street Profits playing nice before their Survivor Series match. No shortage of bravado on either side, but they put it aside for an opening 8-man tag team victory over Sami Zayn, King Corbin, Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode. Good match to kick things off, but they continue to misfire with Big E. Otis gets the nod to join Team SmackDown. Meh. Would’ve rather seen Big E get the nod. Looks like he’ll be limited to have some type of invovlement in the tag team match.

Nice to see Bayley trying to unite the SmackDown Survivor Series women’s team now that it’s complete with herself and Natalya being added Friday night. I agree with Corey Graves. The SmackDown team looks stacked in comparison to Team RAW. Natalya’s match with Tamina was a snoozer though.

Less continues to be more when it comes to Roman Reigns. Perfect placement of course with Roman at the head of the contract table. Even when faced with a challenge from another show, WWE Champion Drew McIntyre, it’s still the same message. Reigns is THE CHAMPION and your tribal chief – the head of the table. All the arrogance continues to flow with a line of love. “You will always be my favorite #2” will live in WWE history as a great line from Reigns to McIntyre. It’s going to be a war come Sunday night between these two! Now, that’s good business for everyone.

Murphy vs. Seth Rollins put forth a good final chapter as Buddy finally gets the better of his former mentor, the Messiah. Murphy’s Law says Rollins is in for some time off after Survivor Series to welcome the birth of his child with Becky Lynch. It’s a good time for a break and to see what’s next for Murphy, Aalyan and the rest of the Mysterio family. I did think the celebration was cut short, maybe due to time constraints.

SmackDown had a little too much talking this week, but it did get all of the main stars together from both shows to hype the PPV, which, at the end of the day, is the main job of the go-home show – give me a reason to want to watch the PPV. In that vein, it worked. It was kind of odd having Asuka just watch as Carmella beat Banks down in front of her though. Doesn’t help Asuka to help her and it moves forward Carmella’s story to take Banks out for a title shot after Survivor Series. So, for that reason, it worked on both fronts.

Daniel Bryan is a national treasure! Returning to face Jey Uso in a hard-hitting main event, Bryan again saw himself going through a table. Uso tried to make Bryan see there was nothing personal, but of course it’s all personal with family business. But, in true babyface form, Bryan gets his revenge with a sweet rollup for the victory. Could we get Bryan vs. Reigns up next for the title when Uso couldn’t get the job done? Sign me up!

Parting Shots:

So, will we really get The Rock vs. Roman Reigns at the Main Event of WrestleMania 37? The only way it happens is 1)it has to fit into The Rock’s schedule 2)there has to be fans. We would all love to see the fight for who’s truly at the head of the tribal table and just watching to see Reigns believe he is on The Rock’s level would be interesting. But, no fans = no match. No need to waste it with no in-person reaction.

It’ll be interesting to see how the WWE changes the look of ThunderDome when it moves from the Amway Center in Orlando to the spacious Tropicana Dome in Tampa. Going from a 20,000 arena to a indoor stadium will create different opportunities visual and could lead to letting in fans if the COVID-19 pandemic allows.

WWE Champion Drew McIntyre vs. Universal Champion Roman Reigns has a funky finish. Either it goes to a no-contest or Reigns wins via DQ with Randy Orton and The Fiend involved.

Here is another batch of writer notes on Sorcery 101. If you want to read ahead on these got ahead on these head over to my patreon.

Chapter 33

Title page Trying to keep up the symbolic designs. So I tried to combine the two more important elements of the story: the werewolf ghost and a silhouette of Cal who is getting set up for his last chapter. This is the only chapter without Danny in it.

Page 1209 – 1212

This scene is mostly exposition from a different story most of the cast isn’t directly involved in. I always like smaller scale stories but with hints of something the characters aren’t involved in are going on elsewhere. I kinda wanted to show what all the big powerful folks are focused on. Mainly it’s about keeping the supernatural a secret. Which isn’t good for Damien since he runs around telling everyone.

Asagi calls Frost Jim, which is the closest modern name to his real name. Frost not doing anything is supposed to show that for one Asagi is old and powerful enough to address Frost in a more familiar way and that Frost doesn’t protest means they are on okayish terms, despite Seth and Frost being an on going thing.

Also, Asagi the best at making “accidents” happen or having convenient coincidences work in his favor. This next scene is him starting to pull a string that will get him want he wants. One that’s isn’t obvious, so Mr. Tamura and Lucy who have all the facts maybe don’t realize his goal. He starts by buttering up Lucy about the job they are doing messing with Damien’s mind because he has done his homework on what Alpha Phoenix could be doing to handle Damien. Then he gives Lucy a nudge to maybe go looking for new recruits.

page 1213 – 1217

Brad is a nervous wreck. I purposely didn’t say Ally was pregnant here because I wanted the reader to find out for sure when Danny did. Brad’s extreme worry is also explained later in that scene. They have been through this several times and it only once ended well. But Brad’s nervousness is why he goes instead of Ally and Ally doesn’t really challenge him on that because well she hates Cal.

With Danny still injuried Lope is really the only bet. Still broken.

page 1218 – 1221

This is most exposition and establishing character interactions. It doesn’t get mentioned in Sorcery 101 but it does in As We Were, but Lope is a holy man of his religion. It’s why all the spells Danny knew when he started his lessons with Pat were light based and healing magic. Lope always tries to help and heal. So out of all the cast, he gets the most respect from Cal. However, Cal is still an ass to the memory of Suzanne.

I wanted the discover that it’s a werewolf ghost to be a team effort. Lope is the one you makes note of the dates even though he doesn’t know how human calendars work. Brad would be the one to know immediately the dates were all full moons after Lope read them out loud.

page 1222 – 1226

Lope mostly leads the way cause this is basically what he does with his whole life. This whole scene is mostly showing how he compitent he is, even when in mourning.

Also, as I said, Lope is about helping and healing. So his spell isn’t something that forces the ghost out. It’s about talking it down.

page 1227 – 1232

So for the wolf ghost design I went for a more monstrous looking wolf than what I make my werewolves look like. Cause it’s supposed to be magic memory wrapped by emotions. So since the ghost sees themself as a monster they are one. I maybe should have taken the time to work on this design more. But I was fairly crunched for time. There is a reason the chapter after this one is when Andrew starts coloring.

I used this conversation for Brad to work through his own werewolf related doubts. While the ghost starts to make Brad transform, you get the cliffnotes of the backstory I made. He was a priest who became a werewolf, then was hanged for witchcraft after being found out.

I tried to give Brad’s words STOP as much visual power as possible. That’s why I dropped everything except him and Lope.

And to immediately show something as changed about their surroundings I used that big pulled out down show and brought their surroundings to warmer colors.

page 1233 – 1235

This scene is happening while the others are inside dealing with the wolf ghost. There is mention earlier that something caused the ghost to be more violent. The mark Cal finds is the same one Lucy put on Damien’s chair. Cal recognizes who’s handy work it is. I always like Lucy talking while sitting in the air. It’s kinda fun to draw them free floating about. They also give Cal quick the list of times he has fucked up. Them all listed out like that is what screws Cal over. As long as Cal’s mental gynastistics could keep up making it seem like he’d not broken any rule, he wouldn’t fall. However, he was holding up well all through the comic. Hense being extra defensive about and shitty to “creatures of darkness.” So Lucy is pushing him over and getting a possible new recruit.

And luck just so happens that this recruit is so very close to the edge that even a vampire like Seth could see it coming a few months ago.

page 1236 – 1238

I made it dark to show these three were waiting for Cal for awhile. Lope’s whole reason for traveling with Suzanne was to stop her from doing what happened in Come Undone, but in a way that getting her to chose not to follow that path. Healing and helping. He’s really feeling like a failure right now.

Jay Edidin told me it was very heartbreaking to have Brad be the one to say “You can’t save everyone.” That line should be extra sad for folks who have finished the comic. A lot of the next few chapters I wanted to show what Lope calls hurting Danny in quieter ways. A lot of his lines in future chapters show Danny in a sorta hopeless state of mind.

One decade on MOST people are still sore about this Rich.

 Dan Slott is being overly presumptuous because how the Hell can he predict the future like this? This is seriously like someone in 2002 saying believe all you want but you will never see a revival of the Clone Saga characters and concepts because of how dedicated editorial have been to bury them. Except we did because the people in power changed.

 He is also disingenuous because not every editorial since the marriage worked hard to undo it.

  The Jim Salicrup regime did not work hard to undo it at all.

 Danny Fingeroth’s regime wasn’t truly working hard to undo it at all and if you were to take the most consistent writers of the Spider titles under his regime into account (David Michelinie, JM DeMatteis, Howard Mackie, Terry Kavanagh, Tom DeFalco) only one of them, Kavanagh (one of the worst Spider-Man writers ever) was outright against Spider-Man being married. Michelinie came around to the idea eventually and Mackie at worst had a take it or leave it attitude but tried to get rid of it when editorially mandated to do so not by the spider office but by the EIC himself. Everyone else under Fingeroth’s regime was PRO-marriage.

 In the Budiansky regime that was the same story. MOST writers were pro-marriage but higher ups wanted it undone.

 It was always the higher ups who wanted it gone but rarely the actual editorial regimes composing the Spider-Man group.

 It is particularly bullshit considering the first regime in power after the marriage was DeFalco as EIC and he defienitly didn’t want the marriage gone.

 And again it presumes that

 a)      Those higher ups were right which they weren’t and

b)      That EVERY higher up in the future will defeinitly want the same thing when there is no proof of that. Alonso for instance is apparently more lenient over the marriage in some shape of form than Quesada. Editorials change and generations cycle in and out. There is no evidence to suggest 100% every editorial will want the same thing.

 I mean he talks about it like Marvel is this never changing entity unto itself which has decided there should be no spider marriage when again ‘Marvel’ is made up of people with jobs and positions which change. Only Ike Pearlmutter is in it for life and I don’t think he honestly gives a shit about if Spider-Man is married or not so long as he can make action figures.

 Like he talks about not having a good grasp of the business but literally it is pretty much as far as we know Alonso, Quesada and Brevoort who are against the marriage. MOST marvel creators do not seem to be at all. When those guys eventually leave who knows what will happen.

 I mean he talks about branding but putting aside how that’s proven to be utter bullshit given how brandingwise Sam Wilson’s mere existence as Cap fucks that arguement up as far as Cap is concerned or Flash as Venom fucked that up as far as branding was concerned for Venom, for many years and even now what is happening in the mainstream universe Spider-Man has been out of order with the branding.

 If branding really was the big thing at play here why the fuck HASN’T Spider-Man been regressed back into being a teenager or a teen version of Peter Parker become an ongoing series? Why was he married throughout the 90s and most of the 2000s when that was also at odds with the branding?

 I don’t think Slott himself understands the branding or corporate structure at all.

 Like sure there are people above the EIC, like Brevoort and Quesada. Again, there is no guarantee that they would remain in power forever at all.

 As for the argument about every 8 year old who’s grown up with Post-OMD Spider-Man, putting aside how they are in the minority and less and less fans are coming to the series every year (hence sales are lower now than 10 years ago) the argument holds no water when you consider this.

 Every Spider-Man fan from 1962-1987 grew up with an unmarried Spider-Man fan.

 Like think about it. Most of those guys eventually WANTED Spider-Man to get married, more than this even if they were indifferent to it they were mostly okay with him getting married when it happened because it was additive character development. Same with him leaving high school.

 Most fans were not bemoaning it and similarly most fans of post-marriage Spider-Man were not bemoaning OMD merely BECAUSE they grew up on the marriage.

 It all revolved around the character development. They accepted and liked the marriage because it was developmental for the hero. They disliked OMD both because of HOW it was being done and why it was being done and how it threw out and damaged the character.

  Given how Spider-Man getting married again would be less of a fuck you and undoing of the post-OMD stuff and more of a forward momentum additive step for Spider-Man I do not see why the Post-OMD fans would be inherently inclined to never want to have Spider-Man get married again, especially when most of them clearly also like Mary Jane and Spider-Man being in a relationship.Essentially like the pre-marriage fans they’d probably get fed up with the doomed to fail strings of relationships which do not matter as much as his relationship with MJ (which thanks to Marvel unlimited, trades, info books and pop culture osmosis they are probably going to have become aware of because MOST fans do re-read the older runs) and probably will want to give him something more permanent too.

 Also a lot of Post-OMD fans who’re okay with the status quo would probably be similarly okay witht he marriage’ returning. Most people don’t like Spider-Man purely or mainly upon the basis of what his relationship status on facebook would be.

  Then you got OTHER characters to consider.

 Editorials hated the Super marriage too. Its back..

 Editorials were against Green Arrow and Black Canary’s relationship. Its back.

 If you go by branding and pop culture osmosis it’d make a shitton more sense for Nightwing to not exist and for Dick to have forever remained Robin as opposed to Damien who is a far less known character to the public. Even then people in the public are hardly going to just shrug off the idea of Robin being Batman’s actual son.

 Iceman’s sexuality, the ages of the original X-Men, the list goes on and on about branding vs what is in the books themselves and how there is a double standard at play as far as the Spider marriage is concenred.

 Oh and btw, SUPERMAN and BATMAN both have kids. THAT is even more of a out of lockstep branding thing than Spider-Man being married. It is far from the most egregious example of dissonant brand snergy

 I mean Disney clear don’t give a shit about the content of the comic books and have not for a long time. I am not even believing of the idea that Marvel Entertainment on the whole is. I think it is basically Quesda, Brevoort and a few other guys who are not in the job for life. I mean he talks about the Senior Vice Presidents and CCO and all that and again...those are just people who will roll out of power someday whilst marriage friendsly people will likely replace them given how much younger they are than those men. And again I don’t believe anyone at Disney itself gives a shit if Spider-Man is married in the comics considering they do not care that he is married in the newspaper strips, in an AU comic book or that Venom and Doc Ock for the longest time have never resembled their typically branded counterparts. I mean Brock not being Venom has stuck for over a decade too and he was around for less time than the marriage. But look at how that’s reversing gears too. Shit Jean Grey came back and other reversals in continuity have happened throughout the decades too.

 He speaks about Ben Reilly too. He tries to say the situations are different but they really are not. Multiple people wanted him back including higher ups (which i am not convinced of at all, I don’t think Quesada wanted Ben back or gave a shit) and that still happened. Basically Slott said enough people and the people in charge wanted it, which means obviously people inclined towards it rolled into power. Literally there is no reason that couldn’t happen with the marriage. The powers that be could retire, die or change their minds, there is an overwhelming preference for the marriage within the fandom and most writers and artists and who is to say the way branding is considered as far as the marriage is concerned won’t change.

 I mean the idea is really ridiculous when you think about it. People who don’t like the marriage will always be there and will never be replaced by people who do or are at least open to the idea. And at the same time whether Spider-Man is wearing a wedding ring (cos he could still to all other intents and purposes be married and in a relationship with MJ) in one particular comic book series is utterly pivitol to the sales of all other Spider-Man merchandise? 

 C’mon.

 Even if you look at it the other way around f the comic sales being affected by the other stuff that also is clearly not true and Marvel clearly do not care about it.

 Basically Slott is talking shit because he’s presumed everyone in power up to and beyond the EIC level will never change their minds and also will remain in power forever.

All this is especially poignant when you consider how truly off to the side and irrelvent the comic books are compared to everything else. The adaptations are more prized and important than the comics so branding considerations are really kind of asinine if you are to lump them all in together.

 And then You have his comments about Spider-Man being a high schooler being in line with the original intention of the creators.

 Maybe, maybe, maybe that is true of Ditko but it sure as fuck isn’t the intention of Stan Lee. Even in Ditko era letters pages Stan was making comments about how Spider-Man wasn’t married yet. Fans wanted Spider-Man to age and develop and go to college which Stan eventually instituted.

 Then it was in Wolfman’s run where he graduated from college and in Roger Stern’s run in that Spider-Man exited full time education altogether.

 If Spider-Man’s point was about being young you’d think either of these writers or editorial regimes would have prevented that, let alone Stan Lee outright aging Spider-Man out of college. Hell in ASM #39 he stated that Peter was 19 years old so he’d obviously ages not just since he got his powers but since he even began attending college. And Stan was working towards Peter getting married someday. He did that in the newspaper strips and has in other short stories or comments expressed a preference for Spider-Man to eventually get married, even referencing the fact that MJ used to be pregnant.

 He also noticeably had many of his other characters age and develop over time. for instance Reed and Sue didn’t remain dating or engaged forever. Ben Grimm got over his grumpy stages. Johnny storm went to college. Reed and Sue had a kid. The X-Men graduated.

 Few if any of Stan’s teen characters remained teens or at least in the same context they were created in. The entire MU was bult with continuity and character development in mind so the idea that Spider-Man was intended to be about youth as far as Stan was concerned is idiotic.

 This isn’t getting into how accounts from Stan have outright stated that Spider-Man was about being an ordinary guy as his core concept not about being young or how Tom DeFalco, EIC of marvel, long time Spider-Man writer, author of the most definitive Spider-Man guidebook of all time and someone who had been reading Spider-Man since literally Amazing Fantasy #15 has outright stated Spider-Man isn’t about youth...along with other creators like Peter David, J.M. DeMatteis, etc.

 Combine this statement with Slott’s assertion about Peter being emotionally 15 years old and suddenly so much makes sense about his take on Spider-Man.

 Again, this man should never have been allowed near the character.

  P.S. Even Steve Wacker admitted that the marriage probably would come back someday.

 P.P.S. Slott admits Spidey could get the win over Mephisto. This basically proves that even he knows Spider-Man’s been on a colossal losing streak ever since that story contrary to what he and Quesada have said about it in the past.

 P.P.P.S. I find it questionable that Slott doesn’t actually go into details to elaborate on why it’d be so impossible for the marriage to return. He says there are VPs to consiuder and stuff but leaves it at that.
