I pirated Lady Ballers so I could do one of my conservative comedy analysis posts. It was intolerable about 5 minutes in. Like, even if I was the target audience of this movie, this is bad on a scale never conceived before. So that solved the mystery of why all of the Rotten Tomatoes audience reviews were so generic and no one is able to mention anything specific they like about this movie.

Some could be bots I guess, but I honestly think it was just Daily Wire fans trying to support this godawful thing and trying their best to simulate what they think a positive review looks like.

Every movie has these kind of reviews, but when your movie has nothing but generic praise, that is a red flag.

Like, one of the first audience reviews for Elf was this...

That is a person that genuinely enjoyed something. There are details and specifics and you can tell they just want everyone to have the same amazing experience as them.

But the biggest thing I'm noticing is how much this movie throws cis women under the bus to make fun of trans women. They say they are doing this *for* cisgender women athletes and then spend most of the movie making fun of women's athletics. The premise is that trans athletes are hurting women's athletics, but the not-so-subtle subtext is that women's sports are silly and pointless and you should really just watch men instead.

Which proves what people have been saying all along, they don't actually care about women or women's sports, they just want to hurt trans people.

Lady Ballers (2023)

I'd not been too impressed with either of the other two Daily Wire films I've seen - the Prairie western thing and the one about the school shooter. I admired them for trying to create something separate from the collapsing PC cesspit that is Hollywood, but the end result was too amateurish, and they both felt like student films or one of those straight-to-DVD Christian movies.

This one, though, I felt cautiously optimistic about going in, because the one thing the non-woke types have really got on their side is humour, so I thought they should be able to correctly judge the acquisition of the laughs, and I'm glad to say I was right.

The basic plot is that a failing high school basketball coach realizes in the present era of gender madness we are passing through, he can coach his older, over-the-hill male students to greatness if he just passes them off as trans.

That's pretty much all there is to it, which seems such a glaringly obvious thing to make a comedy about, but of course, it being 2023, no-one else now (okay, except South Park) has the guts to do it. Wokeness and cowardice created a humour-void and the Daily Wire rushed in with a golden ticket to fill it.

The film itself really just feels like a slightly above-average comedy from 15 or 20 years ago, like The Hangover or Dodgeball or something like that, when jokes still existed and the world was still funny. It's not overtly political, other than mocking the madness we can all see around us every day, and at no point did I feel like I was being preached to, which made for a pleasant change.

Just about all the Daily Wire presenters are roped in for some well-placed cameos, but it's Matt Walsh who steals the show as the coach's ex-wife's new hippie boyfriend, something so out of character from what you'd expect from him, but he embraces it with gusto and nails it to a T.

The film hits all its targets splendidly, and it's enjoyable and fun all the way through, so comedy would indeed appear to be the genre the Daily Wire have the most natural aptitude for, and I'd be glad to see them make more like this.

Lady Ballers was way better than I thought it would be. Definitely worth my $15 this month. Terror on the Prairie was good too but I didn’t watch Run Hide Fight yet. I recommend doing ointjoy sub to daily wire plus to watch all three. It can be turned off next month.
