Rolls-Royce Phantom I Jonckheere Coupe
The first Rolls-Royce Phantom — then called the New Phantom, presently called the Phantom I — was introduced in 1925 in response to competition from European luxury marques like Hispano-Suiza and Isotta Fraschini and from premium American automakers like Packard and Pierce-Arrow. Based on the chassis of the outgoing 40/50 model, now known as the Silver Ghost, the Phantom introduced Rolls-Royce's first overhead valve engine and four-wheel brakes (although some sources say front brakes were introduced in late production Silver Ghosts). The OHV engine was taller than the sidevalve motor. That affected styling. The bodies coach built for the Phantom I had higher hoods, radiator shells and cowls.
In 1934, an as-yet-unidentified owner took the Phantom to the Jonckheere body company near Roeselare, Belgium to be rebodied. Though Henri Jonckheere built his first luxury automobile in 1902, the company had transitioned to making mostly bus and coach bodies by the 1930s. It still exists today as VDL Jonckheere.t’s not known who designed it, but Jonckheere built a radically different coupe body. Some say it was inspired by the aero designs of stylists Jacque Saoutchik and Joseph Figoni — but, to my eyes, it’s not nearly as elegant and flowing as their work. The squarish Rolls-Royce grill was retained, but it was sloped back to give the tall grill a more streamlined look. It is perhaps the only classic era Rolls-Royce whose grill is not vertical. To say the least, the car is a bit controversial with traditional Rolls-Royce enthusiasts. The windshield is also steeply raked. Bullet headlights and very long and flowing fenders continue the streamlined theme, but the car is so massive it’s hard for me to call it sleek. To finish off the aero look, Jonckheere put a big tailfin down the length of the middle of the trunk lid. Such fins were popular with European coachbuilders in the 1930s and you can see them on Bugattis, Delahayes and other custom-bodied cars of the era. Designer Raymond Loewy added one to his customized 1939 Lincoln Continental. Of course, the Rolls’ most distinctive features are its large rear-hinged round doors, which allow ingress for both front and rear passengers. Because of the odd door shape, the side windows are split vertically and open up like a scissors as they retract into the doors. Round fender skirts for the rear wheels echo the shape of the doors.
The car is almost 20-feet long and finished in dark black. It’s a big, almost ominous looking vehicle that would be at home in a Batman movie, driven by the villain. It’s not a very practical car. With ponderous weight and no power assist, the steering is difficult, particularly at low speed. The non-synchro transmission needs to be double clutched and, even though the car features Rolls-Royce’s servo-assisted mechanical brakes, the weight makes it hard to stop. The large turning radius, low ground clearance and extended rear end make maneuvering the vehicle difficult. The steeply sloping fastback roofline forces rear passengers to slouch. There is no back window to speak of, just louvers, so visibility isn’t the best. To make the most of the limited trunk space, there is a set of fitted luggage.

Part Three
Tumblr media
Mereel stared at the comlink sitting in front of him.
Comms were his specialty. And when they were paired with a stubborn system that needed to have information pulled? There hadn’t been many missions more specifically tailored to Mereel’s skill set than this one.
So how was it possible that his entire plan had gotten thrown off-course at the first obstacle: a stubborn assistant at that? Hells, Mereel was the charming Null trooper. He knew how to talk his way around any gender of any species, but you hadn’t seemed affected in the slightest.
Granted, Mereel hadn’t been particularly personable on the call, but who could blame him? He knew to plan for every obstacle, but this hadn’t been one he had anticipated.
Well, if a polite request didn’t work, Mereel was more than willing to resort to other methods. Moving directly to subterfuge might be a bit of a leap, but that was actually a good thing. It lowered the chances that Julgum’s assistant would expect another call from him.
And if you did, it would still be fine. Coruscant was all about nonsensical social rules. Even if you thought he was lying, you wouldn’t be able to directly accuse him of it without risking offense. Especially if he were to, say… pose as an important dignitary.
With a new plan already fully formed in his mind, Mereel picked up the comlink once more. A flick of the custom button changed his incoming frequency to one that appeared to be based on Coruscant. If anyone attempted to patch in to that particular frequency, they would be told they lacked the security clearance to reach anyone on the other end.
It was just the sort of thing a self-important senator would use to make calls, and Mereel was swimming in confidence as he dialed Julgum’s number once more.
“Senator Julgum’s office. How may I help you?”
The same di’kutla assistant. Mereel was disappointed, but not surprised. It would have been easier if it had been anyone else answering the comms. Still, ninety percent of a successful op stemmed from the ability to pretend like nothing was wrong.
“Yes, I have a meeting scheduled with Senator Julgum,” Mereel said, putting on a slightly different voice. He threw in a Coruscanti accent for good measure.
“A meeting with the senator,” you repeated. “Very good. What is your name?”
“Noblu'klec Durkurtku.” Durkurtku was the most prominent senator Mereel could think of who could ostensibly have business with Julgum. He didn’t know much about Durkurtku other than a name and that he and Julgum were along similar lines, politically. At least, as long as Ordo’s ramblings about Coruscant’s current political atmosphere were accurate. He erred on the side of pompousness, emphasizing, “Senator Durkurtku.”
“Of course, Senator Durkurtku,” you agreed. “I am well aware of your office and your ties with Senator Julgum.”
Kark. It sounded almost as if you knew Durkurtku… but there was no way, right? Whose assistant was that well-connected?
“Excellent. This meeting was put in place quite some time ago… I spoke with a… Sanril?” The fudged name would hopefully earn him some points for believability. Dignitaries never remembered the names of anyone who worked with them. Even then, he was eager to end the call and get what he needed from Julgum’s system. “If you don’t mind, my schedule is extremely full. Please transfer my call so this meeting can end in a timely manner.”
You were quiet on the other end of the line and Mereel bit back a curse. You were probably poring over a kriffing schedule book. With his snottiest tone, he pressed, “I must insist you connect me with the senator immediately.”
“Sorry, I was just thinking.”
Mereel blinked at the desk in front of him. “Thinking.”
“Yes, thinking,” you confirmed. “Specifically, about how impressed I am with your vocoder, Senator Durkurtku.”
“My…” Mereel was a little unbalanced by that, and had to take a moment to gather himself back into character. “My vocoder.”
Stars, why couldn’t he think of something to say that wasn’t just repeating something you had already said?
“Precisely, Senator.” You sounded unruffled, voice completely professional. But somewhere around the edges, a hint of amusement lurked. Mereel’s mind was already racing before you spoke again: “Well, as an Ithorian, you know that not many vocoders will work with your specific physiology. And yet I understand you perfectly. If you don’t mind, I would appreciate knowing your secret. Senator Julgum has several contacts who could use a high-quality vocoder.”
Kriff. Kriff. Of course Durkurtku was an Ithorian. Ordo couldn’t have chosen to fixate on a senator who belonged to a species that could speak Basic, could he? Now Mereel had to sort a way out of this mess.
“I’m not Senator Durkurtku,” Mereel told you, giving an uncomfortable laugh. “I’m just one of his aides. Surely you don’t think the Senator makes his own calls?”
“Of course he doesn’t,” you agreed kindly. “But neither you nor Senator Durkurtku have an appointment to speak with Senator Julgum.”
“You can’t make an exception for the most prominent senator on Coruscant?” Mereel wheedled. When that didn’t seem to be working, he lowered his voice, trying to sound slightly panicked. “Come on, one intern to another. I really need to get this meeting set up or I’m going to be in big trouble. Can you help me out? Please?”
“I’m sorry, there isn’t anything I can do for you.” You were polite, even regretful, but firm. “Except to schedule an appointment, if that’s how you want to proceed.”
Mereel was so stunned by this assistant’s insistence that he was starting to think making an appointment wasn’t a bad idea. “Hypothetically… When could I get the appointment set?”
“Hmm…” Mereel could hear fingertips tapping on the screen of a datapad. “I could get a meeting set up for… three weeks from now.”
“Three weeks?” he repeated, nearing fury and struggling to keep it from his voice. “You can’t seriously expect Senator Durkurtku to wait three weeks for an appointment!”
“Maybe not, but you aren’t Senator Durkurtku,” you reminded. For a second, Mereel thought he had been found out, but you finished, “If he called on his own behalf, I might be able to make an exception.”
“The senator won’t make his own appointments-”
“I’m sorry, I have another call,” you interrupted breezily. “There isn’t much more I can do for you. If you decide to secure the appointment in three weeks, please feel free to contact our office again.”
The comlink went quiet in his hand and Mereel stared at it in dismay. How had that actually gone worse than the first time? Probably because Durkurtku was a kriffing Ithorian. He could have chosen anyone else…
But, he had to admit, the idea of using a vocoder had merit. Maybe not exactly the way an Ithorian senator would have used one, but it could be used nonetheless…
For the first time since this whole thing had started, Mereel decided to take a moment and come up with an actual plan.

MASTERLIST
Requested by anonymous: 'Imagine Reader meeting Steve at the museum and both are super shy 🥺but since then they come across each other everyday and it's really cute 🥺'
Characters: Steven Grant x Reader
Meanings: (Y/N)=Your name
Warnings: Just fluff 😊
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
(Y/N) beamed as she stepped into the museum. She hadn't visited since she was little, it had changed so much, but that only meant she had more exhibits to see. She didn't care that she was by herself, no one was there to distract her. She could really focus on the history on display.
Her whole day was spent there, and a day we'll spent in (Y/N)'s opinion. She knew there were others around her that also appreciated the displays and information set out, though there were also a lot of children either fascinated or bored during their trip. Just like when she was a little girl, she ended the trip with a visit to the gift shop.
Steve was obviously bored, repricing items that were headed for clearance, the stupid and inaccurate toys mocked him almost. As he carelessly stuck new price stickers on the items, he noticed a woman waltz in, staring a little too long. He couldn't help it, she was beautiful. Steven assumed she would walk through to the exit, it was always kids and their parents who stayed to buy something. He was surprised when she saw her jaw drop at the sight of something.
(Y/N) rushed over to the Egyptian section, spotting the newest book by her favourite author. It was another installment from the author who studied all aspects of Egyptian life, and it was exclusively released to the museum first. She picked up one from the pile, seeing that she had grabbed one of the signed copies. With a big grin on her face, she made her way to the till, already wanting to flick through the papers.
Steven clumsily fumbled with the sticker machine, almost dropping it on the floor as he scurried over. He tried to play it off by laughing when he got there, greeting the woman with blushing cheeks.
"Hi."
"Hi." she smiled back.
"You seemed excited to pick this one up."
"Yeah, well, I have all the other books in the collection so far. And I realised literally as I walked in here that the new one is being sold here so of course I have to get it."
Steven was in awe. There were hardly any customers that would know of this author, let alone want to buy a book from the museum in the first place.
"I have all the books too!" Steven exclaimed."Volume one is always my favourite though."
"Egyptian gods? Yeah, that's a good one. You're so lucky to work in a place like this."
"The gift shop? Nah, it's not as good as being on the floor, you know, like a tour guide."
"That does sound fun."
"The shop or the tours?"
She laughed."Sorry, I have to go with the tours."
He let out a short chuckle as he scanned the book, grabbing a gift bag as she got out her card.
"Oh, I have one of those member cards to scan!" she quickly whipped it out.
"Oh cool, so you've got yearly access to the museum." he took it from her to scan.
"Yep, it was a present from my parents. I've just moved to London because of my new job, but they knew I would want to come here all the time. I was so excited when they gave it to me, it was even better than the new TV they helped me buy." (Y/N) froze before she could talk any further."Sorry, I talk a lot when I get excited."
This shop assistant was so cute, and here she was embarrassing herself. She saw his name was Steven from the name tag, noting that it was with a 'V' and not a 'ph'. As he returned her card, he dropped it on the counter, both of them fumbling to pick it up, cringing as their hands brushed multiple times.
"So, that's thirteen pounds and fifty pence please." Steven said when they recovered.
She tapped her phone on the card machine, thanking him as he put the receipt in the bag and slid it over.
"Will you be visiting again soon?" Steven dared to ask.
"Yeah, I think I most definitely will be."
They shared a smile before she walked away, shoulders tensing up from how giddy she was.
"My name is Steven by the way!" he called after her.
(Y/N) turned around."I know. Because of the name tag! I'm not a stalker!"
He nodded as they laughed again, (Y/N) about to walk away when she remembered she hadn't told him her name.
"Oh, I'm (Y/N) by the way. It was really nice to meet you."
They were both bashful as their conversation ended. Steven had a bit more spring in his step for the rest of the day, hoping (Y/N) would become a regular visitor who he would be seeing more often. (Y/N) now had another reason to come to the museum, maybe she would grow the confidence to speak to him for more than five minutes.
The week passed, Steven being nagged by Donna and (Y/N) was settling into her new workplace. But it was now Saturday, the weekend, it was time for (Y/N) to head to the museum again. She got up extra early this time, hoping to catch Steven before the rush. Although she had been in high spirits the whole way there, she halted outside the doors, wondering if Steven was even working. Of course (Y/N) would still enjoy her time there, though she had wanted to talk to Steven again.
(Y/N) felt silly as she walked in, scanning her membership card. She had dressed up more, made an effort. It was still a casual look, she just wanted to give off a good impression to Steven. Who was she kidding? She had never even been asked on a date, how was she going to speak with this guy?
Although she tried to walk around the exhibits, take down her own notes of anything interesting, she couldn't keep her mind off of Steven. He was just so handsome, and cute, and so adorable when he spoke. It was clear he was shy too, though that made him more attractive. They also shared a big interest, something they were both passionate about. (Y/N) really hoped he was working today.
Steven had dashed through the museum, running late for work again. He prayed Donna wouldn't catch him, hopefully she hadn't noticed his absence yet. Luckily there weren't many visitors yet, so he got away with running through the halls. But he spotted someone familiar, only for a second, but it still made him stop, almost skidding across the room on the polished floors. It was her, and she looked beautiful.
"(Y/N)?" he cautiously said as he approached her.
"Steven!"
The way she said his name gave him butterflies.
"Long time no see." he joked.
"I did say I would be a regular."
"That's great, not many people devote their time to the museum."
"I love it, I always have."
There was a short silence before an idea popped into his head."Um ...I was actually wondering...My lunch break is at one, did you, like, want to have lunch together or something?"
(Y/N) felt herself blushing, heart racing. Would this be a date?
"Yeah, I'd love that!"
Too enthusiastic (Y/N).
"Great! I'll meet you by the Egyptian section?" Steven hoped it wasn't too on the nose.
"Perfect. I'll see you then."
Steven nodded, mumbling out 'bye' before he really had to make sure he got to the shop before Donna. (Y/N) was relieved that she had made an effort into her outfit, though she knew Steven ultimately wouldn't have minded what she wore.
One o'clock took it's time to get to. Both Steven and (Y/N) had glanced at the clock or phone too many times. Steven had to deal with customers bribing their bratty children with toys, whilst (Y/N) couldn't concentrate on any of the information she read. Her eyes would skim over the words but nothing would register. When it was five to one, (Y/N) made her way to the meeting point, trying to look around for Steven ut not making it too obvious.
Steven had his lunchbox and flask in his hands, quickly making his way to the Egyptian area. He was excited, could this be a date? Oh, what if it was? He kicked himself for not asking her out properly, they could have at least gone to a nice cafe nearby. It was too late now anyway, as he had spotted her.
"Hi." Steven grinned.
She turned around at the sound of his voice."Hi. Oh you were smart bringing a packed lunch. I had to go buy mine."
"Oh, I would have bought it for you! I was the one who suggested lunch in the first place."
"It's OK, I really don't mind."
"As long as you're sure."
She nodded."So, where shall we sit?"
"I've got just the place."
He guided her through the halls of artifacts, finding a bench pressed against a wall. Opposite was a huge tapestry, it was faded but you could still clearly make out what was weaved on it; there were pictures of God's and humans, (Y/N) knew what it was instantly.
"Journey to the afterlife." she muttered.
"Yeah, I just thought, lunch with a view." Steven nervously said.
"A very good view indeed."
They tucked into their lunches, speaking when they weren't chewing about the piece in front of them. Steve knew he didn't have a lot of time for his break, but there was so much he wanted to know about her.
"Can I ask, what got you so interested in all this?"
"Egyptians?"
He nodded.
"I dunno, I think... Well for starters, I love all history, I could talk about anything in the past, you know, Tudors, Romans, Aztecs, Victorians. But, something just drew me to this, I found it all so beautiful and fascinating. I wish I had persued it in uni or something, and not just as a hobby."
"Why didnt you?"
"My parents have always been supportive, but we weren't very well off. I think they were worried that I would end up with little money if I went down that route, they encouraged me to do something other than history. And I do like my job, I've got good colleagues and I'm able to afford rent in the capital! It's not the greatest flat in the world I'll admit but it's still a place I'm paying for."
"Good for you. That's really admirable."
"Thanks Steven, that's a very sweet thing to say."
He mentally high fived himself, he was doing a good job here.
"What about you? Why aren't you a tour guide?"
"Same sort of story really. I would love to be one. It just feels good telling people all this information you know, and then seeing their eyes light up at things they never knew about. The kids faces are funny when they hear about how mummies were actually made."
"I can imagine. At least we can still enjoy the exhibits I suppose."
"Yeah." Steven glanced at his watch, he only had ten minutes left, and he had to be back at the shop sharp."Hey, um, I was thinking...Maybe we make this a regular thing? And perhaps we could also go out for dinner sometime?"
(Y/N) tried not to giggle in glee, feeling herself turn red."Like, a date?"
"Yeah, only if you want it to be. I would like that."
"Yes. I would gladly go out with you. On a date."
"Perfect!"
They were smiling widely at one another, not sure of the next move to make.
"I have to get back to work, but will I see you on your way out?"
"Of course. I really liked having lunch together."
"Me too. Discuss details of our 'date' later?"
"Yeah. I'll see you later."
"Laters gators."
Steven turned quickly before he could regret what he said. Why? Why did he have to end it like that? At least he could be happy knowing he had a date with a girl he really fancied. And he was also looking forward to her finishing her visit, he had to think of somewhere to go now.
(Y/N)'s cheeks were aching from how much she was smiling. She had a date! It was her first date! What was she going to wear? Should she bring a bottle of wine? But they were surely going out so why would she do that? (Y/N) had to remind herself that they hadn't even said what they were doing, that would be discussed later. Just like before, (Y/N) couldn't concentrate on anything in front of her, daydreaming about her date with Steven. She was going to have a shorter trip today, just so she could see Steven sooner, she thought. What a great reason to visit the museum every week.

Previous Chapter
Next Chapter
————————————————————
Y/N's first week at the museum's gift shop was busy and overwhelming. Since she was the new employee, she had to take on most of the tasks while other employees slacked off or were absent. Plus she wanted didn’t want to embarrass Steven, especially with the way he elevitated her.
Her tasks included restocking shelves, organizing the mess left by customers, and wiping down the front desk, for some reason. After she’d finish, she would try to sit down to relieve her aching body but would be stopped once Donna came back with a new list of instructions. And of course, Y/N would be up on her feet before Donna could finish her sentence.
As the days went on and Y/N's energy drained, Steven grew concerned for her. It was her first job, and she was being worked relentlessly. He attempted to help with some tasks, but she insisted on doing everything herself, leaving him to watch as she hurried around the gift shop.
One day, Donna handed Y/N a sticker gun and told her to mark all the snow globes on clearance. Once she was done, she had to stack them on a designated shelf. Y/N immediately nodded and started applying the stickers, not minding that it was July and nowhere near December.
Seeing Y/N's relentless pace, Steven approached her and joked, “You don’t have to push yourself so hard, don’t want you to combust,”. However, Y/N was too focused to notice. Eventually, she finished marking all the snow globes, feeling relieved. But then she realized she still had to put them on the shelf, which made her groan in frustration.
Steven offered to help, saying it would be faster. This time, Y/N welcomed his assistance. As they both worked to put the snow globes on the shelf, Steven broke the silence, “Anything on your mind?”.
Y/N had a lot on her mind. She was stressed, tired, and on the verge of tears. Steven's worried expression reminded her of her siblings telling her to take a break after a study session, which only made her feel more homesick. She didn't want to break down and prove her parents right about her.
She was considered an adult now, and adults shouldn’t cry to people, especially to their own neighbors who they’ve only met for about a week.
But instead of sharing her true feelings, she simply replied, "I'm fine, thanks for the help, by the way." She grabbed the empty box and went to the register to assist a waiting customer.
After they left, Steven approached her again, “Alright, just take things at your own pace, you don’t have to prove Donna anything,”.
He took a box that he was tasked to take to the stock room and went on his way. Y/N was left with the flood of customers coming in, and Donna passing by to boss her around more.
After two hours, her body felt so tense that it might be considered sculpture in the museum. With her brain constantly firing actions and thoughts, her body felt like it was on autopilot. Luckily, it was finally time for Y/N and Steven's lunch break, granting them 30 minutes of rest, which was much needed, especially for Y/N.
—— Y/N eagerly waited for her granola bar to drop from the vending machine, watching as it descended into the slot. She grabbed a chair, leaned back, and heard her bones crack. Getting back up, she took a sip of water and a bite of her granola. She twisted her feet and neck to find some relief when Steven joined her at the table, holding his lunch.
"I did tell you to slow down," he said, sounding like he was giving her a lecture.
Y/N let out a tired sigh and replied, "I know, but I got things done fast though, didn’t I?”
Steven nodded and began eating his sandwich. Y/N finished her granola bar quickly but was still hungry and didn't have any change for another snack. She regretted not packing her own lunch.
Noticing her playing with the water bottle, Steven looked down and offered her half of his sandwich, “I’m sure that protein bar and water won’t fill you,”.
Y/N looked at his offer and shook her head, “I can’t that’s your lunch,”
“I will be fine, you however won’t and you still have a long way before the end of the day.” he insisted.
She hesitated but eventually accepted the sandwich, thanking him quietly before taking a bite. It was delicious, maybe it was her growling stomach talking or maybe Steven was an amazing sandwich maker, but she didn’t care.
Once she finished, she looked up to see Steven's surprised expression. He didn’t expect her to be so hungry, but he smiled nonetheless. Y/N wiped her mouth and felt a tinge of embarrassment.
“Sorry, didn’t mean to down all that in just seconds,” she said.
Steven waved it off, “It wasn’t that, it just looks like you haven’t eaten.”
Y/N looked away, knowing he was about to worry him, “Well I was kinda in a rush this morning, so I didn’t have a chance to eat breakfast,”
Steven's eyes widened in shock. She was working herself to death with her body running with no food. “How are you still standing?” he said rather loudly, “You have to put yourself first, a job won’t be as important as your wellbeing,”
Y/N shrank in her seat, feeling like she was being lectured by a parent. He went on about the importance of eating breakfast, even bringing up an Egyptian story. She learned in the past few days about his love with Egyptian facts and stories. It was probably why he didn’t try to resign.
"I'll give you my phone number in case you forget to eat or need someone to pack your lunch," he offered, pulling out his phone. He realized he should have given her his number earlier.
Comparing their phones, it was clear who was the younger one. Steven had a simple gray flip phone, while Y/N had a touchscreen phone adorned with stickers of her favorite shows and movies. After exchanging numbers, Y/N saved Steven's contact as "Neighbor Steven."
"It was nice negotiating with you," Y/N quipped before putting her phone away. Steven looked at her with a mix of confusion and amusement. With only ten minutes left of their break, Y/N excused herself to use the restroom.
After coming out of the stall, she walked to the sink, washed and dried her hands, and looked at herself in the mirror. Steven had been right—she looked like she had only slept for an hour. As she attempted to fix her hair, she noticed the lights above flickering and heard a buzzing sound. It reminded her of the elevator lights. Maybe there was an electrical issue in London. She shrugged it off, not wanting to dwell on it.
She walked out of the restroom and headed to the gift shop where Steven was was already starting on his assignments. “You freshened up?” He asked, as he took out blue hippo plushies from a box. She nodded and only promised that she won’t overwork herself.
———— Nearly a month had passed, leaving only a few days until the end of July. During this time, Steven and Y/N have gotten closer to where everyone at the museum were convinced that they were actually cousins. Really it felt like they were siblings.
As a result, Y/N often acted like a younger sister to Steven.
Steven was peacefully asleep when his phone rang, causing him to jolt awake. He reached for his phone on the nightstand and checked the caller ID, unsurprisingly finding it was Y/N.
"Why are you calling so early?" he groggily asked, his voice tired. However, he was immediately met with Y/N's loud voice on the other end of the line, which instantly woke him up.
"It's about time you answered! Are you ready?" she exclaimed.
Confused, Steven furrowed his brow and asked, "Wait, what time is—"
Before he could finish his sentence, he heard Spanish cursing coming from the other end of the line. "Ay chingado, Steven, did you just wake up?" Y/N questioned.
Taking Stevens silence as a yes, she continued, “Dude, we’re going be late for work!”.
Wide-eyed, Steven checked the time and realized they had only ten minutes before the bus departed. Realizing he missed his alarm, he quickly got up, but his ankle was held back by the chain still attached to his ankle cuff. Sighing, he worked his way out of the cuff and got ready. He tended to his goldfish before heading out of his apartment to meet Y/N, who stood there with her arms crossed.
“About time you came out! Let's go!" she urged.
They stepped into the elevator, and Y/N leaned back against the wall as the doors closed. "Good thing I called you. Was your alarm clock broken or something?" she asked.
Steven shrugged, “I’m not sure. That usually doesn’t happen,”
“Yeah, guess I’ll have to record my voice as your new alarm,” she teased.
"Please, no," he chuckled in response.
When they reached the ground floor, they quickly exited the apartment building and made their way to the bus stop. They arrived just in time to catch the bus before the doors closed, but it was already packed, leaving them standing amidst a crowd of people. Standing on a crowded bus had become a common occurrence for them.
-
Y/N and Steven managed to make it to the museum entrance just in time, weaving through the crowd. Y/N glanced at Steven, asking if their dear boss will be a ‘female dog’ for todays shift. Despite trying to get used to Donna’s personality, she found it hard to like her. The more she had to deal with her, the more reasons she found to dislike her. . Inside the museum, they joined the bustling crowd. Seeing a little girl stuffing a candy wrapper into a pyramid model, Steven told Y/N to go on without him. She nodded and watched as Steven approached the girl.
Steven seemed to enjoy sharing ancient Egyptian facts with others, especially children. Y/N couldn’t help but think of how he would a great teacher if he wasn’t stuck playing gift shopist. He didn't seem like the type to play favorites or get angry at someone for not understanding something.
Y/N made her way to the locker room to store her bag and lunch. Her coworkers greeted her with a "good morning" or simply ignored her, which was fine by her. Returning to the gift shop, she logged into the register and tidied up any items that had been knocked over. Then she went to the rope barrier and unclasped it, allowing visitors to enter.
Although she still worked hard, Y/N stopped going the extra mile like she did during her first week. The main reason was because she would end up exhausted by the end of the day. Steven had even lectured her about taking care of her health, scaring her a bit with his intensity. She knew he meant well, but he could be terrifying at times.
Fortunately, Y/N had gotten used to the museum layout, making it easier for her to find and finish tasks in different places. Most of her shifts were with Steven, as Donna still believed they were cousins. Not out of empathy, but because Donna needed someone to blame if Y/N made a mistake. Which was nearly difficult to do since Y/N was very aware of her actions and surroundings to make any clumsy mistakes.
As Y/N restocked a shelf, she overheard Steven and Donna approaching. Donna was scolding Steven, as usual, about not being a tour guide.
"Don't know how many times I have to tell you this. You're not the bloody tour guide, Stevie," Donna chastised him while he put on his name tag.
"Steven, actually. I am Steven," he corrected her, tapping his name tag. It seemed like Donna never cared enough to remember his name correctly.
After Donna finished berating him, she assigned him a task and walked away. Y/N couldn't help but glare at Donna's retreating figure and muttered, "Guess she didn't make it to third base with her date last night." She expected a smile or a chuckle from Steven, but he looked tired and defeated, most likely from being unheard by the managers.
Y/N pouted and sighed, trying to lift his spirits. "Hey, don't listen to her. Honestly, I think you'd make a better tour guide than those show-offs," she gestured towards the other tour guides who were already busy with their duties. Her words seemed to brighten Steven's mood slightly. His eyes lit up, and he straightened his posture, offering her a grateful smile.
"I've told them many times before, but they just ignore it," he said, frustration in his voice.
“You just gotta keep trying,” she offers a smile which Steven returns. As if on cue, one of the tour guides walk up to them. Looking towards Steven.
"You just gotta keep trying," Y/N encouraged, returning his smile. Just then, one of the tour guides approached them, making a beeline for Steven. The woman was dressed in a black dress and had long curly hair. Y/N had seen her leading tours before, mostly for adults, and they had exchanged a few greetings.
There seemed to be more than a casual acquaintance between her and Steven, judging by the way she smiled at him. "How's the sugar trading going?" she asked, starting the conversation in a quirky manner. However, Steven took her words quite literally and started rambling about how figs and dates would be more historically accurate snacks than what the museum provided. Y/N cringed internally, watching him struggle to maintain the conversation. Deciding to give them some privacy, she moved to a nearby shelf and continued stocking items. She still kept a distance where she can still hear the conversation however.
The woman swiftly changed the topic, "Are we still on for 7pm tomorrow?"
Steven looked puzzled, "7pm tomorrow?"
She tilted her head, amused by his confusion but continued smiling, "Best steak in town?"
Y/N furrowed her brows, when did this happen? Steven was usually too shy to speak to anyone, especially attractive women. She sensed the awkwardness in the air and feared Steven would ruin his chance if it continued. Acting quickly, Y/N moved closer to Steven, pretending to wipe down the desk with a cloth. Before the woman could scoff, Y/N discreetly kicked Steven's leg, urging him to respond and not drive her away.
"Oh, uh, right, yeah," he nodded to the woman in front of him. She smiled and walked back to her tour group. Steven watched her walk away, amazed that someone like her would be interested in going out with him. Still, he doesn’t remember when he asked her out. His thoughts were interrupted when Y/N elbowed his arm.
"Damn, look who's got a hot date. Guess I won't be seeing much of you in the future, cousin," she teased.
"Oh, hush now. You didn't think I could do it?" he crossed his arms and raised an eyebrow.
“I mean you were only staring at her while she waited for you to confirm your date. So I had my doubts," Y/N playfully shrugged. Steven crinkled his face into a smile and lightly pushed Y/N, causing her to giggle. Their lighthearted moment was interrupted when Donna walked in with a surprised expression. Y/N groaned, not wanting to deal with her.
"Stevie, you absolute rascal," Donna chimed in, having overheard their conversation. She always seemed to be eavesdropping on her employees' lives and being a judge. Unlike Y/N, who joked about Steven's dating skills, Donna belittled him. Steven simply would nod and let her walk all over him, as usual.
“Oh, speaking of which, have you guys seen the video of that one guy dressed up as Spider-Man riding the motorcycle?” Y/N laughs awkwardly as she tries to change the subject.
Ignoring her, Donna begins judging their date plan, critiquing the way Steven is a vegan and is going to eat at a steakhouse, because how could a sane person choose to go to an all meat restaurant when their vegan? It’s preposterous. Finally Steven had enough and gave Donna a witty answer, “I don’t know, Donna. Salad? Bread?”.
His witty retort caught Donna and even Y/N off guard. Donna remained silent for a moment before scowling and walking away. Steven huffed and continued working, sensing Y/N's gaze on him.
"Dang, and here I thought I was going to be the first one to blow," Y/N smirked, placing a hand on her hip and leaning on the counter.
"I wouldn't necessarily call it that. I just gave her a response," Steven shrugged with a hint of attitude, prompting Y/N to laugh.
"I'll have to keep that in mind, though. Wouldn't want to catch you on one of your bad days and end up fighting,” Y/N playfully positioned herself in a fighting stance, fists raised as if ready to throw punches at Steven.
Steven shook his head and gently lowered her hands. "Oh, put those tiny fists down. You've got nothing to worry about."
Y/N smirked, "I'll take that as a sign to keep annoying you then."
During their lunch breaks, Steven and Y/N enjoyed sitting together, while having casual conversations about their day or discussing the latest news of villains causing trouble in New York. It was their special time together, unless Y/N entered the break room with some juicy gossip, which Steven secretly enjoyed despite telling her that it wasn't their business.
As Steven sat at the table with his sandwich, already immersed in his meal, he heard the door to the break room open. Soon, Y/N walked in, her familiar smile lighting up her face. He knew that smile meant she had some interesting information to share, which would entertain them both.
"So, guess what I found out on my way to the break room," Y/N pulled out a chair and sat down. Steven, with a mouthful of food, simply nodded, gesturing for her to continue.
Leaning forward, Y/N lowered her voice, "Remember Ava from customer service?"
Steven nodded again, signaling her to proceed. Y/N went on to reveal how their coworker who was crying to her ex-boyfriend about wanting him back, rejected her because she had been cheating on him with his best friend from another department. Steven's jaw dropped, and Y/N confirmed it by nodding, her arms crossed as she leaned back in her chair.
"You're lying," Steven said in disbelief.
"I saw them kissing in the stock room with my own eyes," Y/N shrugged casually. Steven was still a bit shocked by the revelation but accepted the information. "I hope her ex doesn't find out soon, or we might witness a scene right here at the museum."
"I actually hope he does find out. It would definitely make my week," Y/N added with a mischievous smile.
Steven nodded in agreement and then remembered the second sandwich he had packed. He slid it across the table to Y/N, who looked at it and suddenly recalled something.
"Oh yeah," she said, standing up and heading to the fridge. She retrieved two Tupperware containers and heated them in the microwave. Returning to the table, she placed one container in front of Steven and kept the other for herself. Steven glanced down at the closed container, then looked back at Y/N.
"I did some grocery shopping and wanted to make you lunch too," Y/N explained, opening her container to reveal a pair of quesadillas and orange rice. Steven opened his container and found the same dish inside. "Thank you, Y/N, but you didn't have to do this for me," he said, grateful for her gesture.
"You always pack me lunch, and you've been so helpful since I started working here. Consider it a thank you," she replied, taking a bite of the sandwich Steven had made for her before moving on to the food she had packed for him. Steven followed suit, and the two of them enjoyed their meal in comfortable silence.
For Steven, it still felt odd to share his lunch break with someone. He used to eat alone and hardly spoke to anyone in the break room. Whenever he tried to strike up a conversation, most people would simply nod or make an excuse to leave, sometimes both. He thought the same situation would happen with Y/N, where she would stick by him for a week or two before finding her own group of friends. However, to his pleasant surprise, she had stuck by his side and engaged in genuine conversation.
"When do your classes start?" Steven asked, taking a sip from his water bottle while waiting for Y/N's response.
Y/N paused for a moment to think. "I think they start this Tuesday," she finally replied.
Steven nodded in understanding. "Have you gotten all your school supplies?"
Y/N paused again, pursing her lips to the side. "I was able to get some, but I still have a few things to get," she admitted.
"Well, if you're missing anything, I might have some extra supplies I can give you," Steven offered, humming thoughtfully.
Y/N's face lit up. "That would honestly mean a lot to me," she said, feeling the weight of her student debt pressing on her.
——
"I think I'm about done here. Are you ready to go?" Y/N turned to Steven, who was locking up the register.
"Same here," he replied, finishing up his tasks. They gathered their belongings from the locker room and headed out.
As they passed JB, the museum's security man, he spotted them and turned in his chair, a smile on his face. "Heard you're going on a date, Steven," he said, teasingly.
Steven ignored him and simply wished JB a good night, already feeling tired from his shift.
"With this miracle, maybe young Y/N can get herself a first date too," JB continued, practically giggling at his own joke. Y/N forced a laugh and responded, "Fuck you too."
She let out a frustrated huff as they walked out of the museum and down the steps. "All he does is watch videos and watch people pass by. He has no room to talk. It's so annoying," she vented.
"At least you now know how your teasing makes me feel," Steven joked.
"My intentions are pure, from one friend to another," Y/N said, placing her hands over her heart in a humorous gesture.
The bus arrived just in time as they reached the bus stop. The small crowd of people poured in, and since it was late, there were a few empty seats available. Steven and Y/N sat down, stretching their limbs and holding their belongings close to their chests.
"So what are you wearing for your date?" Y/N asked curiously.
Steven shrugged, a hint of uncertainty in his voice. "Honestly, not sure. Plus, it's been a while since I've been on a date, so I don't even know what's appropriate to wear."
Y/N pursed her lips thoughtfully. "Well, personally, I think it's nice when a guy dresses up a bit more than usual," she said, scanning Steven up and down, making him feel slightly self-conscious. "You could definitely use an upgrade."
Steven glanced down at his jacket and button-up shirt. "What's wrong with my clothes?"
"No offense, but they kind of give off a janitor vibe," Y/N replied, a mischievous glint in her eye. Steven looked at her with a half-lidded gaze, not sure if she was being serious. "Oh, how funny," he said sarcastically.
Y/N nudged him lightly with her elbow. "I'm just messing with you. But seriously, I'm going to help you pick out your outfit."
Despite her teasing, it was evident that Y/N cared about Steven as a friend. She often stood up for him, defending him against anyone who spoke ill of him. Whenever she confronted someone, Steven would intervene, pulling her away before things escalated. Later, he would lecture her about not needing her to fight his battles, though he secretly appreciated her support. It always ended with laughter, thanks to the witty comments Y/N made.
Still, Donna was the one person she couldn’t talk back to, for some reason.
——
In the elevator, Steven suddenly remembered his offer to give Y/N the college supplies. "Oh, right. You still want those supplies I mentioned earlier?" he asked, turning to Y/N and catching her off guard.
Y/N blinked for a moment, then replied, "Oh yeah, but if you want we can do it tomorrow."
"Let's be honest, we'll both forget about it by the time we get to our apartments."
Y/N nodded, admitting her forgetfulness. "True. Alright, I guess we'll head to your place first."
As the elevator doors opened, they stepped out and made their way to Steven's door. Y/N waited patiently as he fumbled with the keys to unlock it. Finally, they entered his apartment. Steven placed his satchel on a table and hung his jacket next to it.
"It won't take long, you can hang out with Gus in the meantime," he said, gesturing towards his pet goldfish. He then walked over to a table where a stack of books and other materials were piled up.
Y/N's eyes roamed around the apartment, taking in the decor and the various items scattered about. A large bookshelf filled with books caught her attention as she entered. To the left, there was a table with piles of papers, and to the right, a bulletin board with Egyptian pictures. Rugs were scattered across the floor, and stacks of books and papers added to the organized chaos. As she stepped further in, she heard the creaking of the floorboards beneath her feet. Guess it wasn’t just her studio.
Towards the far right side of the apartment, she noticed the kitchen area. An old-style stove stood against the wall, and above it was a large vent with a light at the bottom, an unusual design choice that piqued her curiosity. She then glanced to her left and saw a table stacked with boxes, but what intrigued her were the bags of sand. Puzzled, she shrugged it off and continued towards the center of the apartment.
There, she spotted a fish tank surrounded by books, serving as makeshift support for the tank. Inside, there was a chubby goldfish with only one fin. "You must be Gus, huh?" she murmured, offering a smile to the aquatic resident.
Moving on, her gaze fell upon a small one-seat sofa facing a modest television. It sat atop a table overflowing with books. As she turned to her right, she noticed Steven's bed. Curiosity got the better of her, and she approached for a closer look. To her surprise, she discovered cuffs tied to the bed frame, with sand meticulously spread around it. "That's what the bags of sand were for," she uttered aloud, her voice laced with intrigue.
Just then, Steven walked in, carrying a stack of lined paper, folders, and pencils. “Alright, I have all the things you might need…”, his words trailed off as he caught sight of Y/N staring at his bed. His heart sank, this gave off so many red flags. His thoughts ran more wild as her silence made it worse.
"So, uh, cuffs, huh?" Y/N stood there in shock, her eyes fixed on the restraints attached to the bed. She then turned to Steven, a mix of curiosity and amusement on her face. "Okay, I don't know if this is for murderous or kinky purposes, but strangely enough, I'm not freaked out."
Steven's eyebrows shot up, surprised by her response. "Really?" he asked, seeking confirmation.
She nodded affirmatively. "Yup."
"Well, that's good to hear because both of your assumptions were way off," he said, placing the items he was carrying onto a nearby table. "What other reason could there be?"
Y/N crossed her arms, contemplating for a moment. He walked toward the bed, picking up one of the cuffs. "Well, I sleepwalk," he admitted. "And sometimes it causes me to leave my apartment unknowingly. So I use these," he gestured to the cuff in his hand, "to prevent myself from wandering off."
Y/N took a few seconds to process the information, and then a look of understanding appeared on her face. "Oh, that makes sense," she exclaimed, relieved. "I'm glad it's that and not something more concerning."
Steven let out a small chuckle. "Of course, you surely didn't think I was a–”
"A psychopath with a weird fetish?" she finished his sentence, a playful smile on her lips.
He paused for a moment, then nodded. "Uhm, in short, yes."
Y/N shook her head. "Nah, I know how to spot someone like that from a mile away. And you, sir, have no 'killing spree' bone in you."
"I see. I'm surprised you didn't freak out and run out the door," he remarked, trying to lighten the mood.
A mischievous glint sparkled in Y/N's eyes. "Oh, if I were freaked out, I would have pulled out my pepper spray and extendable pole on you," she teased. Steven looked at her in shock, not quite sure what she meant by "extendable pole."
Sensing his confusion, she rummaged through her purse and retrieved a small silver canister with a pin attached to it. Steven furrowed his eyebrows, his curiosity piqued.
"How does that work?" Steven asked.
Y/N grinned mischievously. "You'll see, step back."
Steven obeyed, taking a few steps away from her. Y/N carefully positioned the cylinder so it wouldn't cause any damage. With a swift motion, she pulled the pin, and in an instant, the cylinder transformed into a six-foot pole. Steven jumped back in surprise.
Y/N laughed at his reaction and retracted the pole back into its compact form. "See, now I don't have to worry about being mugged," she said with a satisfied smile.
Steven nodded, still a bit startled. Then he remembered the supplies he had promised Y/N. "Oh yeah, here are the supplies I promised you." Y/N looked at the stack of items and was amazed. "Oh wowm when you said it was a few things, I didn’t think that much," she exclaimed, letting out a small laugh.
After a few more minutes of conversation, Steven walked Y/N to the door. As she opened it, she turned back to him, gratitude in her eyes. "Hey, thanks for the stuff. I really appreciate it. I owe you."
Steven waved her off. "You don't owe me anything, but if you want, you can make me more of that dish you made for lunch."
Y/N's eyes lit up with excitement. "Yeah! I'll make you more tomorrow," she promised, already looking forward to it. She walked across the hallway to her own door. "Anyways, good night, man. I'll help you with your outfit tomorrow," she called out, unlocking her door and disappearing inside.
———
The morning sunlight streamed through the windows as Y/N slipped on her shoes and made her way to Steven's apartment. She knocked on the door, expecting a prompt response. Silence greeted her. She knocked again, a growing sense of unease creeping up within her. Still, there was no answer. She knocked a few more times, each attempt met with an eerie silence that sent a chill down her spine.
Did he sleep through his alarm again? Y/N pondered, a twinge of worry tugging at her. She reached for her phone and dialed Steven's number, only to be met with the voicemail greeting. She kept trying to calling him, but it was the same automated voice of Steven.
Frustration mounting, Y/N's concern turned into alarm. She started to pound on the door, her fists connecting with the solid wood. "Hey, Steven! Wake up!" Her voice echoed through the hallway as she relentlessly banged on the door. She was probably waking up the neighbors, but she didn't care. Something wasn't right. This wasn't like him. Did he pass out? Did he leave without her? He would have told her before he left.
Anxiety slowly crept into her body as she wondered about Steven. "Where is he?" she muttered.
————————
So sorry for the late update! Honestly, I was going through writers block but I am back now. Hope you guys enjoy. I tried to have Steven and Y/N’s become closer in a week as you can see.

Stevie Compagno Jr.  - How To Choose Your Fitness Coach
When you choose a fitness coach, you put a lot of trust and confidence in them. If you are finding it hard to find a fitness coach for yourself, you can find a fitness course at Get Fit with Stevie Compagno Jr. - A Top Fitness Coach For 2023 that you might enjoy. It is important to choose a fitness coach who understands your goals and motivates you to achieve them.
If you choose to work with a trainer, you can expect to receive a customized workout plan tailored to your specific goals, injuries, and preferences. In addition, they provide encouragement to help you stay on track and ensure that you adhere to your exercise regimen.
Tumblr media
Choosing your perfect fitness coach
By working with a personal trainer, you can expect to receive individualized attention as they assist you in creating an enjoyable workout routine, provide guidance on proper form, ensure that you are exercising all of your muscle groups safely, and offer other forms of support. Personal trainers are beneficial for both beginners who require assistance in starting their fitness journey and experienced exercisers who are looking to challenge themselves.
Here is how you can choose your perfect fitness coach:
Setting goals: Before meeting your personal trainer, it's crucial to think about your fitness goals. Setting attainable and specific goals is vital, taking into account factors such as your age, skill level, time availability, and desired timeline. Effective personal trainers work best with clients who have clear and realistic goals beyond just weight loss. By communicating your objectives, you increase your chances of success in your relationship with your trainer.
Observe: To distinguish between a good and a great personal trainer, pay attention during their group sessions. Notice the exercises they use, their focus and enthusiasm, whether they model reps and offer feedback on form, if clients are engaged and challenged, and if they tailor workouts to individual needs. While most trainers can provide effective workouts, the best ones will motivate and coach you throughout your fitness journey, offering individual attention and sharing techniques to help you succeed.
Experience: When selecting a personal trainer, ask about their experience working with clients, specifically those with similar needs or limitations as yourself. If you have a medical condition or injury, your trainer should tailor your session accordingly and seek permission to discuss exercise concerns with your doctor. They should obtain medical clearance from your doctor if you are under their care.
References: If the fitness coach you are considering is great at what they do, they will not hesitate to provide your references when you ask them. Find a fitness coach who is willing to be transparent with you.
Conclusion
As a beginner, finding the right fitness coach is not easy to do. You can also find tips and tricks mentioned in Steven Compagno Jr 5 Fitness Tips For Beginners to find the right person who will help you achieve your goals. You can also ask your friends and families for recommendations or if they know anyone who might be able to help you.

Journal Entry
I spent the afternoon calibrating and testing the computers as best I could without the Commander's unique abilities. I requisitioned two astromechs for the day and put them to work using the surveillance cams to follow me, and other people I had them select based on set criteria, around the halls of the complex.
Of course, I limited the test to the corridors, lifts, and other spaces that should be free of sensitive information. The droids then went on a scavenger hunt through the samples, routing their finds to the display screens on the walls of the office, through the recording and download process, or out to the data pad and headset I had on me.
The search criteria I gave them were all mundane: specific types of droids, specific innocuous scenarios. Then I put the cataloging system through its paces in test mode, to get the hang of its differences from the civilian systems I'm used to.
All this testing was well worth it. We caught and fixed a glitch preventing sound from the feeds from passing to the cataloging system. Everything else checked out, and that was the last item on my list, so I think all is as ready for the Commander's return as I can make it.
[Sample of testing data - not included in the journal entry]
Len: ~200 words
Criteria met: Two or more people having a conversation in a lift.
Subjects: Two human aids in lab uniforms who had, coincidentally, just passed Blithe in the halls.
[End sample]
S1: Was that another probie? Did you get a look at her insignia?
S2: Think so, yeah. There's more of them around, lately. You think she's from that lab in the, uh... rumors - you know the one?
S1: The one? Oh! Oh, yeah. I hear the clearance rating's so high you'd have to be a moff to even know where it is. Nah. She's not from there.
S2: No?
S1: Didn't look the part.
Subjects exit the lift and make their way to the nearest break room.
S2: How so?
Subject 1 checks around them before continuing.
S1: I hear they're… different.
S2: Different like how? Non-humans? That's not --
Subject 1 interrupts, voice lowered but still audible.
S1: Like not military intel or ISB, or anything anyone recognizes. I hear they've got custom, like really custom uniforms, and super fanatical faces. Real intense. And I don't know this, but I also heard the assistants never, ever leave that lab. At all.
S2: What do --
Subject 2 lowers her voice, too.
S2: What do you mean never?
S1: They say they go in and…
Subject 2 interrupts by clearing her throat as a technician enters.
S2: Say, does this caf taste funny to you?

Cuddle Struggle Chapter 1
Lloyd Hansen x OC (Megan Montgomery)
Summary: Everything her life was supposed to be has been taken away from 25 year old Megan Montgomery and starting over at such a young age seems ridiculous. Even now as Lloyd is coming to terms with the fact that he has a heart and someone else is trying to steal his heart from him.
Working for Denny Carmichael wasn’t the easiest of jobs but Megan could honestly say she loved it.
In college, when she’d been advised due to circumstances that her contract to be a  professional softball player had been terminated, she was lost. Her scholarship had been contingent on the sport and no amount of help from the rest of her family could afford the tuition, especially when she’d chosen business as a major but didn’t actually have a backup plan for if she didn’t become a professional athlete. With just an associate degree in business, she dropped out of college, broke up with her boyfriend of a year and moved back in with her parents to figure her shit out.
She’d been lucky, by some miracle Denny had come across her resume and took a chance on her and she completely bombed her interview to become his personal assistant. She’d confessed to her boss, her biggest flaw was becoming complacent when she felt unchallenged, he’d argued at the time that was her biggest advantage. It wasn’t until her first day on the job she understood. Being the CIA chief’s PA meet she had to manage his entire schedule, review emails and paperwork but given her lack of security clearance a majority of her work was redacted. Each and every day was challenging in a new sort of way and kept her enthralled.
Just today she had received three meeting requests for a John Smith, but each of those requests came from separate John Smith’s with separate contact information and reasons for needing to see Carmichael. On top of the 4 phone calls with people who refused to give their name only a ten digit code that she could use to verify this person had approval to discuss matters and to forward off to Denny. She’d developed a system that didn’t threaten the security of the content but made doing her job a little easier but it was still the delicious challenge she craved in her life and it prevented overcrowding and overwhelming her.
Accept moments like this, when a stranger entered from the hall and approached her desk that resided just outside of Denny’s office. The man had bright blue eyes, brown hair that was shaved on the sides and a ridiculous mustache on his upper lips. Despite the stache, he was rather attractive but the air about him was already putting off the ‘i’m superior to you’ vibe and Megan wasn’t about to put up with that-well if she wasn’t at work she wouldn’t.
“Can I help you?” she gave him her sweet customer service voice and a bright, full toothed smile.
“Depends, you single Agenda?” he smirked at her immediate surprise of his boldness. It had been a while since someone had managed to render her speechless. “Denny’s expecting me. he rolled his head as if to say ‘I’m just joshing ya’ and tapped two fingers on top of her desk.
“Name for the appointment?” she asked, her eyes jumping to her computer monitor, thankful to not meet his intense gaze. The excuse of pulling up Denny’s calendar was plenty to keep her from his eyes that seemed far too knowing, like he already knew all her secrets.
“Lloyd Hansen, Hansen Government Services.”
“You’re thirty minutes late,” without looking at him, she began scanning for the next available time slot but there was none until next week unless she could squeeze him in as soon as her boss finished his lunch. “If you want to wait ten minutes, he will have a small opening.”
“Hmmm,” he closed his eyes, the side of his lips quaking in amusement before he composed himself in a bit from jumping on the chance to tease her with the innuendo opening she provided.
“So I get to sit here and admire you?”
Megan looked up at him again, her mouth opening and closing, a blush spreading across her neck and crawling up to their chin. What was she supposed to say to that? No one ever flirted with her, even her ex had just told her how things were going to be and she could accept them or spend her life sad and lonely; his words not hers. Their eyes locked in probably the most intense observation she had ever experienced, it was almost like a staring contest but they weren’t competing-more like they were learning about one another with that locked look of icy blues. There was something dark about Lloyd simmering just below the surface, it was dangerous but hidden beneath the playful outer demeanor he seemed to cling to as wella s enjoy. It was unfamiliar and alluring to her.
“Lloyd” Megan snapped out of her stupor to look over to her boss who was now standing in his doorway beckoning the man with his hands. “Come on, you’re late.”
“Catch you later Dockett.” Oh she liked that one, the first nickname falling short but this one? She liked it. Lloyd waved to her and disappeared behind the door, Meg only picking up on the harsh tone of her voice before the silence fell over her again.
Lloyd Hansen reminded her of her ex-boyfriend but where Ransom’s arrogance had been displayed as a cruel superiority to herself, Lloyd’s arrogance manifested in playful confidence at being about his abilities. Ransom had always wanted her to know he was in charge, not because he deserved it or knew how to manage her or their relationship but because it was how he was raised and he wasn’t about to compromise for anything less. But with Lloyd, she felt like she’d willingly obey his commands knowing he had the skills needed to make things easier and happier for herself.
But God, if she brought home another shitty guy like Ransom, Steve was going to disown. Not that he would ever vocalize it. He’d become a good and stable figure in her life, even helping in the aftermath of the accident that took her future from her. But he had never liked Ransom, not even from day one, he voiced his displeasure for the trust fund man to her in private but respected her to make her own choices. Meg had chalked her taste in men up to residual daddy issues, Steve had shown up a little too late to save her completely in that department.
But Lloyd was different from her previous partners, though none of them had taken anything really seriously but none of them seemed as fun(?) as Lloyd, that was the vibe the man had put off. Maybe that’s what she found attractive about him? It didn’t help that after that initial encounter he seemed to show up everywhere she went: the gas station getting to know the basics about one another while she filled up her beater and he his expensive sports car, at the coffee station at work when she was trying not to confused her sugary goodness with Denny’s straight black order as he joked with her about all manner of things, even the parking garage where they’d conveniently end up in the elevator together and he’d escort her to her vehicle before making his way to his own car that was never parked too far away.
He was friendly and talkative but nothing to indicate he was interested in her romantically until about a month of the ‘coincidental’ encounters. On a Thursday evening heading to her beater car he was leaning on it instead of having waited for her on the first floor of the garage.
“There you are! Was starting to think you and Denny were having a sleepover.” he pushed off her hood and moved to her driver side passenger door to open it for her so she could deposit her lunch bag and purse. “You avoiding me, Dockett?”
“Avoiding you?” she smirked at him. “I’d have to know your schedule to do so, but it seems only one of us sits around memorizing the others.”
“Oh don’t be like that,” he closed the door as she finished but blocked her from moving to her driver door. “How else is a guy supposed to get your attention?”
“And why would you want to do that?” she turned her look to him hoping he couldn’t hear how loudly her heart was beating in her chest.
“Don’t pretend you don’t know how fucking stunning you are,” he laughed. “And that polite act that borders on sassy-God you get me going.” he growled, placing his warm hands on either of her hips, she tried not to let him see how it affected her. “We’re both adults, no need to play games.” Did he study her? Did he know all the right things to say to get her to go home with him? “We both have needs, I think we can come to an arrangement.”
All her eagerness faded instantly, she pulled away and scoffed. “An arrangement?” she pushed him aside and opened her driver door ignoring the so confused defeat that spread across Lloyd’s face. “I am not a booty call kinda girl. I want a life: husband to bicker with, kids to herd, all of that and I see no benefit that offer would provide me in achieving those goals.” she slipped into her car and started it up.
Lloyd watched as she drove away, normally in situations like this, he’d find someone else to state his desires. Emotions weren’t something he was about to entertain, they’d complicated things and made people make sloppy mistakes and his lifestyle couldn’t handle the annoyance of a bitchy/needy woman. But something about Megan Montgomery enthralled him. He wasn’t the kind of man you could say no to and walk away unscathed. He was going to have her, and to do so he was going to need to find a compromise fitting the both of them. His idea of meeting in the middle was pathetic but he caught her in a moment of weakness.
It had been six months since she left Ransom, so why was he still sending her photos and videos of his latest conquests? As if that would drive her back into his arms, if anything, it made her hate him as much as she hated herself for staying with him so long. Maybe if she’d noticed all the negatives in their relationship she could have-no, she wasn’t going to pity herself anymore than she already had. But as lonely as she’d become since recovering from the lust she’d mistaken as love, she wasn’t going to become a meaningless sex toy. But that fucking video, why had Ransom moaned her name instead of the name of the women he was balls deep inside? She didn’t want to play his games anymore! It was the final straw, maybe it was the crush she’d developed on Lloyd that gave her the strength to finally block him on everything.
The spiteful bitch that she truly was decided to stick it to Ransom whether he knew it or not. The next time she encountered Lloyd, she’d pulled him into the women's restroom, and pushed him against the door so no one else could enter. Then she dropped to her knees without a word and pulled him out of his pants, chuckling a bit when she realized he’d gone commando today. All of Lloyd’s attempts at speaking disappeared when she licked his tips, thoughts failed him as she took him as deep as she could, even once she gagged upon. She set a ruthless pace of devouring him and all Lloyd could do was bask in the pleasure she was providing him. He nearly closed his eyes but he acted without thinking, opening his eyes and watching her motions, he gently pulled her hair out of her face and held it as a ponytail as she brought him to completion.
It was a big ‘fuck you’ to Ransom he’d never know about but this was what she needed to let her get back out on the dating market. While Lloyd was still lost in the afterglow of his orgasm she cleaned herself up and slipped out the door. Part of her felt guilty for using Lloyd in that way, especially when he cornered her in the elevator the next and returned the favor.
He knew her schedule and how she could have expected him to just move on from what had happened without addressing it. But no words were spoken as he flipped the switch to halt the elevator and he dropped to his knees this time, pushing her skirt further up her hips and sliding her boring white cotton panties out of his path to get a taste of her himself. At the first sign that she may protest, he grasped her left knee and placed it over his shoulder granting him better access and bringing her pleasure.
He was only returning the favor, maybe if he kept repeating it he would believe himself.
“Does this mean you’ve reconsidered?” he asked as he straightened her outfit out and licked the remaining juices off his glistening lips.
“No, this was fun-”
“And so was yesterday.” he practically purred as he cupped her face in his large hand, her gold pinky ring freezing against her red face.
“But this won’t be happening again.”
“What if I promised to provide aftercare?” he asked starting the elevator back up now that she’d recovered.
“You weren’t going to?” she snapped. Even Ransom, as selfish as he was, had taken care of her afterwards. Stop comparing people and things to that asshole! She reminded herself.
“Come on Dockett, I’m trying.”
“There are plenty of women around here who’d go for no strings attached-”
“They aren’t you.”
Silence surrounded them as they both considered. If he was being choosy with his partners, Megan thought maybe she could persuade him for more. But it was that same kind of thinking that allowed her to accept Ransom originally. She’d learned from past mistakes, she was going to repeat them. Meanwhile, a weird sense of desperation hit him, it was unfamiliar and unwelcome. He was prepared to blow her off to figure his shit out when the elevator dinged and she made her way from him. Watching her walk away from him, he realized he was already too fucking invested, he’d give her whatever she wanted so long as she wouldn’t walk out of his life.
“Wait!” he jogged after her, a gentle hand on her shoulder stopped them both. “I don’t know how to do the dating bullshit but for you …”
“That’s not all I want.” she spoke softly as if trying not to hurt him. He was giving so much for someone who didn’t want commitment but this was a life choice she couldn’t bend on.
“But it's a start and that’s more than anyone has ever gotten out of me,” he sighed, becoming more vulnerable than he’d felt in a long time. “I can’t promise you everything but how about one step at a time?”
“And what’s step one?”
“Dinner and fidelity.” When a wide grin broke out of her face, Lloyd knew he’d nailed it.
“Tomorrow night? I’m sure you already have my number. I’ll spare you and set everything up.” she kissed his cheek and continued on her way to her desk.
Left alone to face the consequences of his decisions, part of him was pissed another part of him-a bigger part of him was determined not to fuck it up.
