Requested by anonymous: ‘Hi! If your requests are open I'd love to request an Anthony Bridgerton x Basset!Reader where the reader's Simon's sister. Prompts 14 and 15 please? Thank you so much, your works are amazing!’
14) 'It's only good news depending on how you look at it.'
15) 'I just wouldn't have expected this!'
Characters: Anthony Bridgerton x Basset!Reader, Simon Basset x Basset!Reader (siblings), Daphne Bridgerton x Reader (platonic), mentions of Bridgerton family
Meanings: (Y/N)=Your name
Warnings: Just extreme fluff!
                                            *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
"Are you quite alright, (Y/N)?" Simon asked his sister as they journeyed in their carriage.
(Y/N) had started fanning herself a little faster."I don't know why I'm so nervous. I just hope to make a good impression."
"Of course you will. I'm sorry you haven't met them sooner."
"I could have at least met your wife at the wedding, if I had been invited."
"We have been through this, (Y/N)."
"Yes, and I'm not trying to argue with you, Simon. I know you married in haste, and I know why, but you must admit, you've left this far too long. You have a son now!"
"You have been cooped up in that house with your matron as father intended. I think she would have had my head if I tried to get you out of there."
They laughed together.
"Simon?"
"Hm?"
"I am very excited to meet your wife and my nephew."
As usual, the Bridgerton house was abuzz with excitement and chaos. Eloise didn't understand why she had to dress up so much for this visit, Gregory and Hyacinth were bombarding everyone with questions about Simon's sister, Colin and Benedict tried but failed to escape the madness, Anthony watched everything unfold and Daphne nervously bounced her baby boy on her knee.
"Daphne, do not fret. His sister will love you." Anthony tried to reassure his sister.
"What if she's like their father? What if she heard all the rumours about us and judges me for it? Simon has never spoken of her, I have no idea what to expect."
"I met Simon's sister many, many years ago. She was nothing like the things you are dreading. (Y/N) was a lovely, respectable young lady, I'm sure she hasn't changed."
Daphne let a small smile grace her face, trying to convince herself that everything was fine. Simon had kept his family such a secret, she just wanted to ensure that his sister would want to stay and be part of theirs.
Simon playfully rolled his eyes as (Y/N) asked how she looked, not in vain, but in anxiety. Her dress was beautiful, her hair perfectly in place, her jewels glistened but they weren't ghastly, nothing was wrong. Her nerves were getting the better of her. Just as she was about to ask again, the carriage stopped. Simon chuckled at her panicked look, already stepping outside.
He held out his hand for her."You'll be absolutely fine. Just be you."
(Y/N) took a deep breath before taking her brother's hand, being extra cautious to not fall on her face, especially since the entire Bridgerton family were stood on their front steps.
As head of the household, Anthony was ready to start introductions, until (Y/N) lifted her head, showing her dazzling features. He had only admitted to himself that he had a fancy for her when he was younger, though who wouldn't? She was beautiful, smart and didn't try hard to impress anyone; she was just joyful to be around. (Y/N) had never pined for Anthony or tried to grab his attention at every moment, or any man for that matter. He definitely considered her a friend, he was somewhat angry at himself he hadn't written to her over the years. But seeing her now, it was a mystery as to why she hadn't been married yet? That was quickly solved when he remembered Simon was her brother.
Simon stuck beside his sister until Daphne stepped forward. They shared a short but loving kiss, before Simon took their son into his arms, cooing and laughing as the baby gurgled. (Y/N)'s heart melted at the sight.
"Oh, how we've missed you." Violet beamed, greeting her son-in-law.
"I apologise for the delay, the weather was not suitable for travelling. Nevertheless, everyone, this is my sister, (Y/N) Basset."
(Y/N) curtsied as all eyes were on her."Thank you for welcoming me into your beautiful home. I have been so excited to meet you all."
"Well, why don't we go inside? We can have proper introductions in the warm." Daphne hid her nerves, presenting herself well.
Everyone agreed, leading (Y/N) inside. The family lined up like soldiers, with Anthony stepping forward to introduce everyone.
"I hope I don't have to reintroduce myself." he teased.
"Of course not, how could I forget you, Anthony? After all the trouble you and Simon got into?"
He chuckled, but cast a worried look towards his mother. He quickly continued.
"My mother, Violet, sisters Daphne, Eloise and Hyacinth, and my brothers, Benedict, Colin and Gregory."
"And your nephew." Simon added.
(Y/N) reached out a finger for the baby to hold."Yes, he's bigger than I thought he would be."
"Children do grow so fast." Violet said.
"But you're here now to see him grow." Daphne quickly added. "And we're all very happy that you're finally here."
Everyone knew that it was Simon who had kept (Y/N) away. He loved his sister with all his heart, which is why he never saw her; she was living a happy life, he didn't want to dampen that.
"The chefs have prepared a marvelous lunch. The table is all set if you are hungry now?" Voilet asked.
"Oh, yes, as long as everyone else is."
As soon as (Y/N) agreed, Colin, Eloise and the two youngest were off. They were starving, even though they had eaten only a few hours ago. (Y/N) giggled to the relief of the others. They slowly followed behind, but Simon was hesitant. (Y/N) gently nudged him forward.
"Go, see your family. I have all the time in the world to get to know Daphne."
Simon thanked her, still carrying his son as his other arm wrapped around his wife. Another arm appeared in front of (Y/N), ready for her to take it.
"May I escort you to the table?" Anthony said.
"Thank you, I much appreciate it."
They both knew they were being dramatic, though it was sweet of Anthony to make the gesture.
"How many years has it been?"
"Too many."
"I'm sorry your brother hasn't involved you. If the...situation between him and Daphne had been different, I know you would have been here straight away."
"I know. And I understand how stressful that all was. But as said before, I'm here now. I must say Anthony, I have missed you."
"Really? Even after all those times Simon and I riled you?"
"Yes. Although annoying, you both had your tender moments. I remember one evening, you and Simon were returning from your club, and you both had found yourselves in a quarrel with some other members. They followed you home, and I was waiting by the back gate to sneak you back inside. They were closer than expected, and do you remember some of the horrible things they said to me?"
"Unfortunately I do. And I unfortunately remember what happened next."
"It was very chivalrous for you to defend me, though you needn't have fought. Your nose wouldn't stop bleeding!"
"But you were right by my side, holding a handkerchief for me."
"Yes, because if you got blood on the carpets, you would have something worse than a bruised nose."
The pair were laughing to themselves as they walked into the dining room. Most were already seated. Anthony guided (Y/N) to her chair, next to Simon, who stood to tuck it in, but Anthony beat him to it. Simon watched his friend's moves very closely, knowing deep down that Anthony was just being polite; however, he wasn't too fond that they were sat opposite each other, able to gaze into each others eyes.
Simon tapped his glass with a knife once everyone was sat, standing with said glass in his hand."Before we begin eating, I would like to propose a toast."
Everyone immediately grabbed their own glasses, except Eloise, taking her time as she huffed; couldn't they at least toast after the meal?
"To my sister, (Y/N). I am so happy that you're here with me, with us. I'm sorry I haven't been a better brother but that will change now. And I can't wait for you to get to know this loving family, who made me one of their own, as I know they will you."
"To family." Benedict finished.
"To family." Everyone cheered.
"Now the food. Please." Eloise needed a plate in front of her.
All through lunch, Simon kept a close eye on his sister and Anthony. He was awful at keeping up with conversations, slow at eating, he just had a weird feeling when he glanced at them both. Simon constantly apologised to Daphne, blaming the long journey for his daydreaming.
However, Anthony and (Y/N) might as well have been dining at their own table. They were in full conversation, of course others chimed in to join, but they couldn't stop reflecting on the past and laughing. It was impossible to not notice how well they were getting along, and Violet had a glint in her eye as she saw how much Anthony was smiling. He never smiled this much, and the way he was looking at (Y/N) reminded her of how her husband used to look at her.
After dinner, they retired to the drawing room, sipping on fresh lemonade as Hyacinth showed off her new skill on the piano. Simon sat with his child in his lap, Daphne by his side, and although he was thoroughly enjoying the time with his family, he couldn't stop gazing over at his sister.
Unsurprisingly, (Y/N) and Anthony were cosied up, still smiling ear to ear as they continued talking. How could they have so much to talk about?
"Let's put him to bed Simon, for a nap. He's getting fussy." Daphne interrupted his thoughts.
Simon didn't want to cause a scene, agreeing to put their son down together. Even as they left the room, Simon's eyes lingered, and he immediately became tense once they were out of sight.
"Has my brother dazzled you?"
Simon was quiet as he laid down his son."Hm?"
"Well you haven't stopped staring at him all night."
He sighed."Was I that obvious?"
"You were indeed. Would it be so bad?"
"What?"
"Would it be so bad if my brother loved your sister?"
"Daphne-"
"Has he been disrespectful? Has he done her wrong? Has he done anything that we did?"
He was stumped. Although his brotherly instincts were kicking in, wanting to protect (Y/N), realistically he knew Anthony would never hurt her. Anthony was trustworthy, he knew him inside out and just from tonight, there was something there.
Simon didn't reply, but Daphne knew he wasn't ignoring her. She could see him thinking it all over as he walked to the window.
"It's only good news depending on how you look at it."
"I know, but it will be fine-"
"No, look!"
Daphne quickly joined her husband at the window, trying to see what he was looking at. Down in the gardens was Anthony and (Y/N) taking a stroll. The pair were lit by the setting sun which was casting a beautiful orange and pink glow across the garden. Although they had not stopped talking through the afternoon, now they were silent, both silently worrying that the other had no more to say.
"(Y/N)-"
"Anthony-"
The spoke at the same time, pausing for a moment before laughing. Anthony said nothing, being a gentleman and letting (Y/N) speak.
"I was just going to say how much I have enjoyed our time together. It feels as if no time has passed since the last time I saw you."
"How long will you stay?"
"Sorry?"
"Well, are you staying for a short visit? Or perhaps an extended time?"
"Simon and I have not discussed that as of yet. I am to be staying with a friend of mine who lives in the Ton, so I shall be here for a little while."
Anthony couldn't help but smile."Good, that is good news."
They were quiet again as they continued walking, only taking small steps as they wee nearing the end of the garden. They were standing close to one another, and although they had linked arms before and been sat on the plush sofas, this held more tension. Perhaps it was the way neither of them wanted to startle the other, despite their desperate want for affection. As their minds drifted off to where this was leading, their hands ever so delicately brushed. Both were startled, halting their steps and looking at each other.
"My apologies-"
"Anthony, it's fine. I...I just wouldn't have expected this."
Anthony thought for a moment, glancing down at their hands that were no longer close. He didn't like it. He wanted to be bold and take the next step, even if it was just holding one another's hand. But this was Simon Basset's sister. And it was (Y/N), who he had the upmost respect for.
"Miss Basset?"
"Anthony, why are you calling me that?"
"May I enquire into the address of your new lodgings?"
"Yes? Why?"
"So that I may call on you in the morning?"

Summary: As (Y/N) and Benedict’s relationship starts to develop, Lord Belby starts his plan to get the girl he wants.
Characters: Benedict Bridgerton x Reader, Bridgerton Family x Reader (platonic)
Meanings: (Y/N)=Your name
(Y/L/N)=Your last name
Warnings: Forwardness (?), but mostly a LOT of fluff
                                      *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
The Bridgerton's cheered as (Y/N) scored a strike as they bowled. She gratefully smiled at them, thankful that she wasn't making a fool of herself.
"Are you a sportswoman Miss (Y/N)?" Anthony asked in disbelief."We are only three turns in and that is your third strike!"
"My father used to play this all the time with me when I was a little girl. It's also his favourite game because he always wins. Or used to that is."
They laughed. Benedict's loving smile hadn't left his face since they linked arms. Although his family made him nervous, in case they said something outlandish, he loved that everyone was getting on. It was as if he and (Y/N) were already married.
Oh, marriage.
Of course the thought had crossed his mind. He wouldn't pursue the lady if he didn't see that kind of future together. But it still shocked him that the thought came to him so casually.
Anthony was next to bowl, he was desperate to also earn a strike. Not only because a lady was beating him, but he couldn't believe how poorly he was doing. Everyone watched in anticipation as the eldest took his turn, hitting nine pins, the last one wobbling teasingly. Holding his breath, Anthony groaned when it didn't fall over.
"Perhaps Lady (Y/N) should be giving you tips brother." Daphne giggled.
"Perhaps she should. Though I don't suppose you've ever played Pall-mall?"
"Only a couple of times. Why, is that your area of expertise?"
"Do not get him started." Benedict mumbled.
Anthony ignored him."I am a humble man, though I do seem to win every time."
"Because you threaten us otherwise." Daphne smirked.
"My siblings jest."
"Well, perhaps I should give this Pall-mall game another go, it would be delightful to beat you at your own game Viscount Bridgerton."
The siblings were all laughing under their breath. (Y/N) worried for a second that she had gone too far, until she saw Anthony smirking at her. It was easy to banter with the Bridgertons, she felt so comfortable with them.
"Where's Eloise?" Gregory asked, looking around.
"I thought she was sat over there, reading a book." Colin said.
"She didn't even have a book with her."
"That makes a change."
"Can she not do as she's told for one day?" Anthony sighed."I apologise for my sister, Lady (Y/N)."
"There's no need to apologise. I'm sure she's content wherever she is."
Eloise sat on a stone bench away from the party, scribbling in her small, conceivable notebook. Lady Whistledown was still out there, writing away just as she was. Whenever she thought she found something to get her closer to the answer, Eloise found herself ten steps back.
"You're fond of that notebook, aren't you?" Lord Belby startled her.
"Uh, pardon me my Lord, I-"
"Not used to talking to men I see?"
"Do you always converse by asking questions?"
He chuckled, taking a seat next to her. Eloise shuffled away, not being subtle about it.
"Eloise Bridgerton, it doesn't surprise me to see you out here alone."
"Have you been spying on me?"
"You're the talk of the ton, Eloise."
"Am I?"
"Of course. With a fiery personality such as yours, how could anyone ignore it?"
"I really must go Lord Belby, it is inappropriate that we are alone." she abruptly stood.
"I don't think you're one to play by the rules."
Eloise halted."I am not. But I also will not be the centre of idle gossip amongst this infuriating ton. Good day my lord."
She swiftly turned again, her pace quick as she tried to get away from Belby. They couldn't be seen together, it was one of the top rules in society. Eloise had already caused her mother enough stress, she wouldn't add this. Glancing back, she saw Lord Belby still sat, gazing at her with a cocky smile. Something about him made her writhe, he was uncomfortable to be around, you knew he was going to do or say something that you wouldn't like.
Belby kept a calm demeanour, cursing on the inside. He thought she would be a somewhat easier target. Not a lot of men went after her, Belby believed she would be swooned by him. Although frustrated, Belby held his composure as he thought of another plan. It was going to be more difficult than he thought.
Meanwhile, Lady Danbury was up to her matchmaking antics. Well, she had no need to make the match, that part was already done for her. However, she saw how the newest couple were antsy, they wished for more time together. Needing to abide by the laws of society, Lady Danbury took Violet and Lady (Y/L/N) aside, suggesting they chaperone the couple away from the guests. The mothers were on board straight away, smiling mischievously as they approached (Y/N) and Benedict.
"They definitely don't look as if they are up to something." Benedict whispered to (Y/N), following where he was looking.
"We better stay as a team then." she replied, her grip slightly tightening on his elbow.
"We were about to take a walk around my new extention of the garden. Care to join us?" Lady Danbury casually asked.
Benedict and (Y/N) knew that this was all part of some plan, but agreed anyway. To their surprise, they followed behind the women, thinking that they would want to spy on them. Neither of them complained, feeling relieved as the guests thinned out, walker slower on purpose as to distance themselves from the others.
"This is nice." (Y/N) cringed at her wording.
Benedict grinned down at her."It is. I hope this isn't too brash (Y/N), but I have been wishing for more time together everyday."
"That is nowhere near harsh Benedict, seeing as we were alone only the last time we saw each other."
"That is true. And I would take that risk again."
"Would you?"
"Yes. Would you not?"
"Oh, I would." (Y/N) was blushing.
Benedict could see she felt cheeky by saying the truth. He liked this side of her, it was fun, honest.
"I would enjoy your company in my home. Would you and your parents care to join us for dinner one evening?"
"Of course! Mother will be thrilled!"
"And your father?"
(Y/N) hesitated."He has been strange these last few days. I'm not sure what is wrong with him. But he does favour you Benedict, do not worry."
"And you are sure of this?"
"Yes! How could he not?"
"You charm me Lady (Y/N)."
"Good, my plan is working then."
Eloise decided against telling her family of the occurrence with Lord Belby. It would only cause disruption, especially from her brothers. No harm came of it and no one saw them. The sun was setting, signalling the end of Lady Danbury's event. Families began leaving, slowly trickling away, each thanking their hostess. The Bridgertons and (Y/L/N)'s made their way out of Lady Danbury' s home together, chatting away until they found themselves outside the home.
"Lord (Y/L/N), my family would love to extend an invitation for dinner at our home." Anthony asked.
"Oh marvelous!" he joyfully replied."Yes, we would gladly accept."
"I shall have the details sent to you. It has been a pleasure to speak with you again."
Formalities were shared as everyone said their goodbyes, heading to their carriages. Benedict made sure he and (Y/N) were the last to leave.
"I await your visit." he said.
"With much anticipation." (Y/N) replied.
If no one was looking, she could have kissed him there and then. Of course, she didn't actually have the confidence to do so, but she couldn't stop thinking about it. Benedict hesitantly left, keeping an eye on (Y/N) as she made her way to her carriage. He watched as she climbed in before getting in himself.
"You are truly smitten Benedict." Daphne teased as they set off.
In (Y/N)'s carriage, the tone was slightly different.
"Darling, where's Lord Belby?" (Y/N)'s mother asked.
"He will no longer reside with us."
"Why not?"
"He is not the respectable gentleman I thought him to be. I don't want him anywhere near our daughter either."
"I always had a suspicion about him, he was far too confident."
"The servants will start packing his belongings as soon as we step foot in our home. I am sorry I let a man like that near my girls."
"Oh darling," Lady (Y/L/N) put her hand on his,"do not apologise. You are doing the right thing now."
"We just need to look to the future now. We have a dinner to attend to in a few days, and we must be ready."
"You make it sound like a military operation." (Y/N) joked.
"And I have the best soldiers with me."
Violet was ecstatic to have the (Y/L/N)'s for dinner, things were moving swiftly. However, she was a nightmare for her children as she tried to quickly plan the evening. What food would they serve? What entertainment could they provide? Would her children behave as they should?
"Benedict, how could you not ask her what her favourite dessert is? You knew we were going to ask them for dinner." Violet stressed.
"It wasn't exactly the first question I thought to ask mother." Benedict defended himself.
"I'm sorry dear, I just want everything to go well."
They had been walking the halls of their house when he stopped her.
"It will. The (Y/L/N) are not a snobbish family, they are grateful and respectful. Even if (Y/N) hated something she would still be polite as to not hurt anyone's feelings. Please mama, just calm down."
Violet smiled."You really like this girl, don't you?"
Benedict nodded, cheeks tinting red slightly, but he wasn't embarrassed to talk about his feelings. It was still young love after all.
"I really like her too, Benedict."
"You definitely approve?"
"I have approved from day one. And I think Anthony has taken a liking to her too. He didn't stop talking about his defeat in bowls yesterday."
"That makes me very happy. I would never bring someone into the family who did not get along with everyone."
"She is going to be very lucky to have you Benedict. I'm so happy for you."
Violet pulled him in for a hug, wishing he was a little boy again so she could pick him up. Almost all of her children were grown, her boys were certainly men and much taller than her; she had to squeeze extra tight to ensure it felt like a proper hug.
"I shan't pester you any longer."
Benedict slowly loosened his grip."How about I help you finish the menu for the dinner?"
Violet grinned, holding onto his hand as they headed to the kitchen. It was all going to work out.
(Y/N) checked over herself in the mirror for the fifth time, checking she had all of her accessories and not a hair was out of place. She was questioning her outfit. Was it the right dress? It was beautiful, maybe too much? So many flaws screamed at her. She knew the only reason she was nervous was because it was a more intimate affair, both families stuck at the dinner table, having to make conversation that flowed for the evening. They couldn't rely on other families in case there was nothing to talk about. Oh God, would her and Benedict run out of things to say to each other?
"(Y/N), we must make haste." her mother cheerily called.
Sighing, (Y/N) hoped her worries would fade away. Everything was headed in the right direction, so why was she worrying? This is what she wanted. She didn't want anything to ruin it. What that could be, she didn't know. Dismissing her thoughts, (Y/N) hurried to meet her parents in the foyer, excitement rising as she thought about Benedict.
It had been so much more peaceful in the house since Belby had left. There was an air of tension he brought, but you didn't realise it until he left. All of his things were gone, he had left in such a huff, it was hard for (Y/N) not to laugh.
The Bridgerton House was beautiful. It suited them, it was obviously majestic yet humble. It helped that it wasn't garnished with hideous and outrageous decor like some homes. The Bridgertons waited in their own foyer, hearing the carriage pull up.
"Right, best behaviour everyone. This is a potential future Bridgerton." Violet instructed.
"Mama-" Benedict rolled his eyes, but straightened up as the door opened.
"Lord and Lady (Y/L/N) and Lady (Y/N)." the doorman announced.
Benedict almost lost his breath. (Y/N) was dazzling. Her dress was sparkling under the lights, the catching reflections hitting her skin, somehow her eyes were more captivating than usual. Even when her parents approached the family to greet them, his eyes never left (Y/N), mouth slightly open in awe.
Once everyone had exchanged their kind words, they headed to the dining room, Benedict and (Y/N) trailing behind, arms linked.
"Are you alright Benedict?" (Y/N) asked.
"You look stunning."
"Oh, Benedict-"
"Sorry, I do not mean to be forward. It is true though. I cannot fathom how you become more beautiful everytime I see you."
(Y/N) was quite flustered."You flatter me too much."
"It's not enough I'm afraid. You shall have to endure many more compliments from me."
"No one has ever been so sweet to me."
"And I intend to shower you with all the affection you deserve."
"I am sorry that I am no so talented at complimenting you."
"There is no need."
(Y/N) wished they hadn't made it to the dining room so quickly. Benedict directed her to her seat, pushing in her chair as she sat and taking his place beside her. He grimaced slightly when he saw Eloise on the other side to her, wishing it was Daphne instead. He knew they got along, but Eloise was getting more comfortable with (Y/N), meaning she could blurt out anything.
"Isn't this lovely?" Violet happily chirped.
"Thank you for welcoming us into your beautiful home Lady Bridgerton. We were most gracious to receive an invitation." Lord (Y/L/N) said."And it is wonderful to meet the rest of the Bridgerton's I have heard so much about."
"All good things I hope." Anthony (mostly) joked.
"Oh of course!" Lady (Y/L/N) smiled."Eloise, I hear that you are on the hunt for Lady Whistledown."
The table went silent. Eloise knew her mama would not want this to be the topic of conversation, especially since they had been here for all of five minutes. But she had also been told to entertain their guests, why not amuse them?
She had a smug smile as she spoke."Yes. I believe she is among us in the Ton."
"Really? Any ideas whom it could be?"
"Well, yes and no. I do not have the sufficient amount of evidence to pinpoint anyone in particular. Lady Whistledown is very smart, she knows how to cover her tracks."
"Or he is." Gregory teased.
"It is definitely a woman, a man could not write in the way that she does."
"Perhaps it is a man and a woman?" Benedict suggested. All heads turned to him, waiting for an explanation."Well, I mean, the papers sell well, she must be earning a lot of money. Perhaps a man thought of a business opportunity to sell gossip and no one suspects a woman in the first place. Also, it is much easier for women to overhear gossip."
Everyone thought about it for a moment. It was a good theory. Eloise scoffed.
"Although I admire the thought behind it, I still think it is one lone woman writing these articles."
"That's because you want it to be a woman."
"But in answer to your question, Lady (Y/L/N), I will still be conducting my investigations for a little longer."
"It's all very scandalous isn't it?"
(Y/N) quietly giggled at her mother. She got so excited over things not deemed proper in high society. The appetisers were soon brought out, ending the conversation much to Violet's relief. Everyone started their own conversations with one another as they ate.
"I am sorry about my mother, Eloise." (Y/N) said."She loves Lady Whistledown, like all mothers do. She was very excited when I was mentioned in the paper."
"I just don't think it's right. She's allowed to overhear gossip and spread it around the Ton, yet no repercussions come to her. Even the Queen can't do anything, this woman is impossible to find."
"You'll be able to figure it out. It might take a little longer than you like. You finally have a worthy opponent."
Eloise smiled.“Yes, it appears I have.”
“(Y/N),” Benedict stirred her away attention away from his sister,“um...”
Now he didn’t know what to say. He knew he wanted to talk to (Y/N), but he had panicked, thinking Eloise may say something regrettable.
“Are you alright Benedict?”
“Yes, I...I was just going to ask how you were finding the food?”
“Oh, it’s lovely, thank you.”
“I hope my family aren’t too much.”
“Of course they aren’t. What gave you that silly idea?”
“I mean, sometimes we can be a little-”
“Benedict, you are by far the loveliest family I have ever met, and I am not trying to butter you up. I mean it. I;m very happy spending time with you and your family.”
What she really wanted to say was how lucky she would feel being a part of this family, but (Y/N) thought that might be too much. The pair shared a sweet smile, going back to their food until the doors opened.
“We’re not qiute ready for our mains yet.” Violet said to the butler.
“Pardon the intrusion.”
Violet turned in her seat at the unfamilar voice, frowning when she saw Lord Belby dwaggering into the room. He looked extremely smug.
“I just hate missing out on dinner parties.”

I saw that you were looking for moon knight requests. So I had this idea for established relationships between Marc x reader and Steven x reader. Where marc/Steven are out doing recon for a potential big bad at this club. Where the reader also happens to be at. They see her dancing with another guy, who is just a friend, and both of their reactions to jealousy/how they deal with the situation

Where marc/Steven are out doing recon for a potential big bad at this club. Where the reader also happens to be. Characters: Marc Spector x Reader, Steven Grant x Reader
Meanings: (Y/N)=Your name
Warnings: Jealousy, possessiveness, swearing, some fluff
                                      *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
"I feel so old right now." Steven whined as they entered the club, the unrecognisable, blaring music made him wince, and the sight of huge crowds of people made him feel anxious.
"Well, we're not here for a good time. Keep an eye out for this guy, Konshu really isn't happy with him." Marc replied, already looking around the place.
Konshu had them on another mission, they were after someone who cheated people out of their money through a made up religion, one loosely based on the Egyptian gods. This man told people that if they wanted to be safe from all the new demons and aliens entering our world, they could trust him to ease their sorrows. He might as well have flipped Konshu off right in his face.
Marc leaned againd the bar as he ordered a drink, facing the people whilst he still looked for their guy. However, someone else caught his attention. He sighed, causing Steven to panic.
"What? What's wrong?"
"Our girlfriend is here."
"Shit."
"Yeah, shit. I know she said she was going out tonight, but it just had to be this club, didn't it?"
There you were, in all your glory having a great time with your friends. You hadn't been out for so long, having to miss nights out because of work being so hectic recently. Now you really had a chance to let done your hair and party with a good drink in your hand.
Marc and Steven were in awe of you, they always were but you looked so gorgeous in your new dress. It was fitting to your body that they loved so much, a beautiful colour on you, and it was quite short. Though Marc had gently voiced his concerns about the length of the dress before you left, he couldn't help but think of ravishing you in it.
"Should we go over?"
"No, not until this is dealt with."
Marc and Steven couldn't help but be distracted by you as they tried to track down this bad guy. Although they were being thorough with their search, their gaze would always flick back to you. They loved watching you dance, they loved seeing you happy. They just wished they could be down there with you.
"I don't think our sources were being entirely truthful, Marc." Steven sighed. They had gone around this club dozens of times.
"No, I think you're right buddy. But, I don't think we should leave just yet."
"(Y/N)?"
"Yep, might as well enjoy the rest of the night."
Marc had a small smile on his face as he made his way towards you, luckily having spotted you within a few minutes. He was making his way through the crowd, avoiding flying limbs and hair being whipped around, when he saw you dancing with someone else, another man.
"Who's this guy?"
Marc's smile had now vanished, a deep frown on his face as he stormed towards you. You were so in your element that you never noticed him until he bumped into you.
"Hey!" you complained before seeing Marc."Babe, you're here!"
He let you throw your arms around him in glee, glaring at the man you had been dancing with.
"What are you doing here? This is a nice surprise."
"Work." he bluntly replied.
"Oh, well, are you finished with that?"
"Yeah. Hey, who's your friend?"
"This is Max. We work together."
"Do you now?"
Marc had been staring at Max the whole time. Max was uncomfortable, trying to carry on dancing with their other friends.
"What's wrong?" you asked.
"Nothing."
"There is. Babe, are you hurt?"
"No."
"Not physically."
"Why don't you join us? It will be nice to let loose for a bit."
"No, I think I'd rather go home."
"Right, well, I'm not going to enjoy myself anymore. I can't stay here with a guilty conscious knowing something is wrong. Just wait a minute."
You started saying goodbye to your friends, briefly explaining why you were leaving. You ignored their pleas for you to stay, knowing that they thought your boyfriend was being controlling (they hadn't been formally introduced, it was something you and the boys were trying to figure out. Who would you introduce in the first place?). But Marc or Steven could be seriously hurt, or Konshu could have said something to rile them up. It wasn't worth staying out for a few more hours when you would just be worrying about them.
Though mad, Marc still took your hand, easily getting you two out of the crowds and the club.
"Steve buddy, you're going to have to take over for a while." Marc suddenly said.
Steven had no time to protest as they switched. Once in control of the body, he looked down at you, how confused you looked.
"What’s going on Steven?”
“We’ll talk back at the flat, yeah?”
You wanted to talk about it now, you were impatient. The mix of booze and euphoria from the good amount of hours dancing had given you a slight confidence boost, and you were going to speak up until you noticed Steven’s expression; he looked hurt, like someone had said something horrible to him. It clicked that back in the club Marc had asked who you were dancing with, but his name didn’t matter, it was another man at the end of the day. You decided to wait until you were home to talk, the guilt already eating away at you.
Steven hadn’t held your hand like he usually did, didn’t let you walk into the flat first either. He wasn’t intentionally being rude (you hoped), his mind was elswhere. It was easy to see that Steven didn’t know what to do or where to stand, so you started the ocnversation.
“I think I know why you’re both upset.”
No reply.
“You saw me dancing with Max and thought it was a random guy. I’m sorry that you thought we were...flirting, I guess, but I would never do that to either of you!”
“We know but...it still hurt (Y/N). And you were so nonchalant about it too. As if it didn’t matter that you, our girlfriend, was dancing with another man.”
“But we’re friends!”
“He might like you!”
“He doesn't! He has a girlfriend too."
"Some people aren't faithful."
"What's that supposed to mean?"
"No, not you, I meant Max."
"He's a good friend of mine. And even if he did make advances towards me I would immediately push him away! I love you two, I could never love anyone else."
Steven was startignt to believe you. You were sincere, you weren't causing a screaming match. Yes, your tone was stern but because you were trying to make your point.
"It's just...well, I'm not exactly the manliest man, Marc's better at that than me. So sometimes when other men look at you, I feel like you would want someone who can hold their own a bit better than me. Someone more confident. And sometimes I wonder if you're better off with just Marc."
Even Marc felt a pang in his chest. You stood up, walking over to your boyfriend.
You spoke softly."Do you hear yourself right now? Steven, how much have you gone through and overcome? You discovered someone else living in your own body, you became a superhero! You're so smart, and you constantly make me laugh with your cheesy jokes. Not to mention the sweetest man I have ever met, who I know I can go to for anything, whether it be a problem or just someone to talk to about a new TV show. I'm so in love with you, and I'm in love with you because of those things. You're you Steven, and you're amazing. I'm sorry that I've made you feel any other way sometimes, I won't do it again."
Steven glanced towards the mirror.
"I accept her apology."
Marc groaned."Don't give in so easily! This isn't fair on us."
"(Y/N) has apologised and explained herself. Perhaps if you have a problem, you should speak to her."
Marc was stubborn, but he also wanted to prove a point to Steven. She shouldn't have been dancing with Max in the first place. They switched again, Steven sitting back and watching the car crash that was about to take place.
"Marc, I really don't want a screaming match."
"You can't expect me to be OK with all of this."
"Were you not listening to what I said to Steven? You two, my boyfriends who I love and adore equally, have nothing to worry about. How many times have I laid awake with you when you can't sleep? How many-"
"Don't try to guilt trip me. It might work on Steven, but not on me."
"Hey!"
"What?! I'm not! I'm trying to explain to you that Max is nothing but a friend and co-worker who I happened to be dancing with the moment you spotted me. I have danced with everyone else tonight. Neither of us are disloyal to our partners, and it actually offends me that you think I would even cheat on you in the first place."
"I worry for your safety. So many men look at you-"
"And so many women look at you! It doesn't matter whether it's Marc or Steven. You're incredibly handsome. Do you know how many times I've caught women and men staring at you? I'm not trying to turn this on you Marc. I'm sorry to you too, I know what your first thought must have been. But you have to trust me, I would never betray you like that. I love you with all my being."
Marc knew that he was just riled up and pissed off. He needed to let off some steam (especially since he had wasted a night on a mission that got no where), and unfortunately you were in the firing line. He let out a big sigh.
"Yeah, I'm sorry too. I just love you too much to lose you."
"I know it's out of love and not spite babe. Are we friends again?"
He smiled, pulling you into himself."Best friends."
"You can be so cute sometimes. I think you're turning into Steven a little bit."
He quickly kissed you."Don't push it."

Requested by anonymous: 'Imagine Reader meeting Steve at the museum and both are super shy 🥺but since then they come across each other everyday and it's really cute 🥺'
Characters: Steven Grant x Reader
Meanings: (Y/N)=Your name
Warnings: Just fluff 😊
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
(Y/N) beamed as she stepped into the museum. She hadn't visited since she was little, it had changed so much, but that only meant she had more exhibits to see. She didn't care that she was by herself, no one was there to distract her. She could really focus on the history on display.
Her whole day was spent there, and a day we'll spent in (Y/N)'s opinion. She knew there were others around her that also appreciated the displays and information set out, though there were also a lot of children either fascinated or bored during their trip. Just like when she was a little girl, she ended the trip with a visit to the gift shop.
Steve was obviously bored, repricing items that were headed for clearance, the stupid and inaccurate toys mocked him almost. As he carelessly stuck new price stickers on the items, he noticed a woman waltz in, staring a little too long. He couldn't help it, she was beautiful. Steven assumed she would walk through to the exit, it was always kids and their parents who stayed to buy something. He was surprised when she saw her jaw drop at the sight of something.
(Y/N) rushed over to the Egyptian section, spotting the newest book by her favourite author. It was another installment from the author who studied all aspects of Egyptian life, and it was exclusively released to the museum first. She picked up one from the pile, seeing that she had grabbed one of the signed copies. With a big grin on her face, she made her way to the till, already wanting to flick through the papers.
Steven clumsily fumbled with the sticker machine, almost dropping it on the floor as he scurried over. He tried to play it off by laughing when he got there, greeting the woman with blushing cheeks.
"Hi."
"Hi." she smiled back.
"You seemed excited to pick this one up."
"Yeah, well, I have all the other books in the collection so far. And I realised literally as I walked in here that the new one is being sold here so of course I have to get it."
Steven was in awe. There were hardly any customers that would know of this author, let alone want to buy a book from the museum in the first place.
"I have all the books too!" Steven exclaimed."Volume one is always my favourite though."
"Egyptian gods? Yeah, that's a good one. You're so lucky to work in a place like this."
"The gift shop? Nah, it's not as good as being on the floor, you know, like a tour guide."
"That does sound fun."
"The shop or the tours?"
She laughed."Sorry, I have to go with the tours."
He let out a short chuckle as he scanned the book, grabbing a gift bag as she got out her card.
"Oh, I have one of those member cards to scan!" she quickly whipped it out.
"Oh cool, so you've got yearly access to the museum." he took it from her to scan.
"Yep, it was a present from my parents. I've just moved to London because of my new job, but they knew I would want to come here all the time. I was so excited when they gave it to me, it was even better than the new TV they helped me buy." (Y/N) froze before she could talk any further."Sorry, I talk a lot when I get excited."
This shop assistant was so cute, and here she was embarrassing herself. She saw his name was Steven from the name tag, noting that it was with a 'V' and not a 'ph'. As he returned her card, he dropped it on the counter, both of them fumbling to pick it up, cringing as their hands brushed multiple times.
"So, that's thirteen pounds and fifty pence please." Steven said when they recovered.
She tapped her phone on the card machine, thanking him as he put the receipt in the bag and slid it over.
"Will you be visiting again soon?" Steven dared to ask.
"Yeah, I think I most definitely will be."
They shared a smile before she walked away, shoulders tensing up from how giddy she was.
"My name is Steven by the way!" he called after her.
(Y/N) turned around."I know. Because of the name tag! I'm not a stalker!"
He nodded as they laughed again, (Y/N) about to walk away when she remembered she hadn't told him her name.
"Oh, I'm (Y/N) by the way. It was really nice to meet you."
They were both bashful as their conversation ended. Steven had a bit more spring in his step for the rest of the day, hoping (Y/N) would become a regular visitor who he would be seeing more often. (Y/N) now had another reason to come to the museum, maybe she would grow the confidence to speak to him for more than five minutes.
The week passed, Steven being nagged by Donna and (Y/N) was settling into her new workplace. But it was now Saturday, the weekend, it was time for (Y/N) to head to the museum again. She got up extra early this time, hoping to catch Steven before the rush. Although she had been in high spirits the whole way there, she halted outside the doors, wondering if Steven was even working. Of course (Y/N) would still enjoy her time there, though she had wanted to talk to Steven again.
(Y/N) felt silly as she walked in, scanning her membership card. She had dressed up more, made an effort. It was still a casual look, she just wanted to give off a good impression to Steven. Who was she kidding? She had never even been asked on a date, how was she going to speak with this guy?
Although she tried to walk around the exhibits, take down her own notes of anything interesting, she couldn't keep her mind off of Steven. He was just so handsome, and cute, and so adorable when he spoke. It was clear he was shy too, though that made him more attractive. They also shared a big interest, something they were both passionate about. (Y/N) really hoped he was working today.
Steven had dashed through the museum, running late for work again. He prayed Donna wouldn't catch him, hopefully she hadn't noticed his absence yet. Luckily there weren't many visitors yet, so he got away with running through the halls. But he spotted someone familiar, only for a second, but it still made him stop, almost skidding across the room on the polished floors. It was her, and she looked beautiful.
"(Y/N)?" he cautiously said as he approached her.
"Steven!"
The way she said his name gave him butterflies.
"Long time no see." he joked.
"I did say I would be a regular."
"That's great, not many people devote their time to the museum."
"I love it, I always have."
There was a short silence before an idea popped into his head."Um ...I was actually wondering...My lunch break is at one, did you, like, want to have lunch together or something?"
(Y/N) felt herself blushing, heart racing. Would this be a date?
"Yeah, I'd love that!"
Too enthusiastic (Y/N).
"Great! I'll meet you by the Egyptian section?" Steven hoped it wasn't too on the nose.
"Perfect. I'll see you then."
Steven nodded, mumbling out 'bye' before he really had to make sure he got to the shop before Donna. (Y/N) was relieved that she had made an effort into her outfit, though she knew Steven ultimately wouldn't have minded what she wore.
One o'clock took it's time to get to. Both Steven and (Y/N) had glanced at the clock or phone too many times. Steven had to deal with customers bribing their bratty children with toys, whilst (Y/N) couldn't concentrate on any of the information she read. Her eyes would skim over the words but nothing would register. When it was five to one, (Y/N) made her way to the meeting point, trying to look around for Steven ut not making it too obvious.
Steven had his lunchbox and flask in his hands, quickly making his way to the Egyptian area. He was excited, could this be a date? Oh, what if it was? He kicked himself for not asking her out properly, they could have at least gone to a nice cafe nearby. It was too late now anyway, as he had spotted her.
"Hi." Steven grinned.
She turned around at the sound of his voice."Hi. Oh you were smart bringing a packed lunch. I had to go buy mine."
"Oh, I would have bought it for you! I was the one who suggested lunch in the first place."
"It's OK, I really don't mind."
"As long as you're sure."
She nodded."So, where shall we sit?"
"I've got just the place."
He guided her through the halls of artifacts, finding a bench pressed against a wall. Opposite was a huge tapestry, it was faded but you could still clearly make out what was weaved on it; there were pictures of God's and humans, (Y/N) knew what it was instantly.
"Journey to the afterlife." she muttered.
"Yeah, I just thought, lunch with a view." Steven nervously said.
"A very good view indeed."
They tucked into their lunches, speaking when they weren't chewing about the piece in front of them. Steve knew he didn't have a lot of time for his break, but there was so much he wanted to know about her.
"Can I ask, what got you so interested in all this?"
"Egyptians?"
He nodded.
"I dunno, I think... Well for starters, I love all history, I could talk about anything in the past, you know, Tudors, Romans, Aztecs, Victorians. But, something just drew me to this, I found it all so beautiful and fascinating. I wish I had persued it in uni or something, and not just as a hobby."
"Why didnt you?"
"My parents have always been supportive, but we weren't very well off. I think they were worried that I would end up with little money if I went down that route, they encouraged me to do something other than history. And I do like my job, I've got good colleagues and I'm able to afford rent in the capital! It's not the greatest flat in the world I'll admit but it's still a place I'm paying for."
"Good for you. That's really admirable."
"Thanks Steven, that's a very sweet thing to say."
He mentally high fived himself, he was doing a good job here.
"What about you? Why aren't you a tour guide?"
"Same sort of story really. I would love to be one. It just feels good telling people all this information you know, and then seeing their eyes light up at things they never knew about. The kids faces are funny when they hear about how mummies were actually made."
"I can imagine. At least we can still enjoy the exhibits I suppose."
"Yeah." Steven glanced at his watch, he only had ten minutes left, and he had to be back at the shop sharp."Hey, um, I was thinking...Maybe we make this a regular thing? And perhaps we could also go out for dinner sometime?"
(Y/N) tried not to giggle in glee, feeling herself turn red."Like, a date?"
"Yeah, only if you want it to be. I would like that."
"Yes. I would gladly go out with you. On a date."
"Perfect!"
They were smiling widely at one another, not sure of the next move to make.
"I have to get back to work, but will I see you on your way out?"
"Of course. I really liked having lunch together."
"Me too. Discuss details of our 'date' later?"
"Yeah. I'll see you later."
"Laters gators."
Steven turned quickly before he could regret what he said. Why? Why did he have to end it like that? At least he could be happy knowing he had a date with a girl he really fancied. And he was also looking forward to her finishing her visit, he had to think of somewhere to go now.
(Y/N)'s cheeks were aching from how much she was smiling. She had a date! It was her first date! What was she going to wear? Should she bring a bottle of wine? But they were surely going out so why would she do that? (Y/N) had to remind herself that they hadn't even said what they were doing, that would be discussed later. Just like before, (Y/N) couldn't concentrate on anything in front of her, daydreaming about her date with Steven. She was going to have a shorter trip today, just so she could see Steven sooner, she thought. What a great reason to visit the museum every week.

Characters: Thomas Shelby x Reader, mentions of other Shelby family
Meanings: (Y/N)=Your name
Warnings: Swearing, sexual themes, arguing, jealousy
                                         *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
"Here's the papers you wanted, Tommy."
Ah, there she was. Tommy waited to hear that voice every morning. He went to work desperate to just catch a glimpse of her before he had to get back to business. Looking up from his writings, he held back a smile as (Y/N) approached him, a stack of paper in her hands.
"Morning (Y/N), how come I didn't get my usual welcome this morning?" he asked with a smirk.
(Y/N) had always made sure to have a hot cup of tea waiting on his desk, with her sat outside his office at her own secretary desk. They would greet each other before going over the agenda for the day and what needed to be done. However, (Y/N) couldn't be found that morning.
"Oh, well, you would not believe the morning I've had." her professionalism dropped as she perched on the edge of his desk, still angled towards him.
Tommy didn't hesitate to look at her arse, and how accentuated it was with how she sat. His eyes quickly flicked back to her face as she started speaking again.
"So I came in early as I do, was going to help Pol set up like usual. Poor Sophie is also here, Pol said something about training her up to open so it's not always us and she's trustworthy. Anyway, I come in to find Sophie crying next to the safe because she forgot the code Polly gave her, and Pol was shouting orders left, right and centre. Basically, she couldn't handle Polly's wrath so I had to help, which took longer than expected."
"You have had a busy morning."
"Haven’t I just?"
"What would we do without you, eh?"
"Not much. Especially you."
"Is that right?"
"You couldn't even get these papers off my desk yourself. It's only situated outside the door, Tommy."
"Keep talking like that and you might just face the consequences."
"Oh? You going to fire me?"
"No."
"Then what are you going to do to me?"
Tommy leaned back in his seat, lighting up a cigarette."You'd have to wait and see."
(Y/N) couldn't deny that this was getting her hot and bothered. She and Tommy always bantered and flirted like this, though over the past few years, their words had become more and more bold. They knew each other since they were children, growing up on the same street and playing together. Their friendship stayed strong as they grew up, everyone always teased the pair that they would get married one day, making the teenagers blush. It was as if they both knew about their feelings for one another, but neither wanted to act upon it, in fear that their assumptions were wrong and they would ruin the long friendship they had.
Tommy and (Y/N) would make a very attractive pair. Of course Tommy had the sharp Shelby look, a mysterious man that enticed women, he was confident, smart; he knew what he wanted and how to take charge. And (Y/N) was no doubt one of the most beautiful women in Small Heath. She stood out from the other workers, she had an aura about her, something that said I know my worth and you can't tell me otherwise. It wasn't arrogant, it was strong, yet she was also one of the sweetest people you could meet in a shit hole like this. It was a wonder why a man hadn't married her yet...actually it wasn't, it was because Thomas Shelby always scared them away.
"Still going for drinks at the Garrison tonight?" (Y/N) said as she got off the desk.
"If I must."
She laughed, making her way to the door."Oh come on Tommy, you love going really."
"Only when you're there."
(Y/N) smiled at him one last time before leaving the room, her confident facade disappearing instantly. Tommy really made her nervous, in a good way. Although it frustrated her too; some mornings she would try to hype herself up, finally tell Tommy how she felt about him, hoping he felt the same. It had been going on for so long between them, it was agonising.
The work day went by as it always did, filled with flirty remarks between the two, lingering touches when passing things to one another, longing looks. Finally, it was time to head to the pub. (Y/N) was on Tommy's arm as they walked, a normal sight. As they entered the pub, (Y/N) noticed Tommy's attention fall on someone else, a blonde barmaid. She hadn't seen this one before.
"Tommy? You coming?" (Y/N) tried to sound light, tugging on his arm towards the private room.
"I'll meet you there."
He didn't even look at her as he spoke. Sadly she pulled away from him, following the rest of the Shelby's. (Y/N) put on a smiling face, despite worrying about what Tommy was doing with that barmaid. She had no right to, they weren't together. When the window to the bar opened, (Y/N) grabbed the drinks, wanting to peak through. As she slowly slid them towards herself, she saw them in deep conversation, Tommy casually leaning again the bar, the barmaid seemingly cool and collected as she spoke to Tommy; women were always flustered around him, which he didn't care for, and this worried (Y/N), because what if he took an interest in her?
"Take your time love!" Arthur laughed.
Trying to distract herself by playing cards with the boys, (Y/N) found herself glancing up to the door every time a shadow passed it. She found herself losing every round, not being an amazing player anyway, though it was as if she had never played before. When Tommy did decide to join them, (Y/N) suddenly didn't want to speak to him.
"What took you so long?" Arthur asked as his brother sat down next to (Y/N).
"Didn't you see the new bird at the bar? Tommy wasn't wasting any time." John chuckled.
(Y/N) kept her eyes down on her cards. Tommy glanced at (Y/N)'s cards, leaning over to whisper in her ear.
"You're doing terrible tonight."
"Thanks." It was blunt, it was rude.
"I can help you win."
"I don't need your help."
Now Tommy could see the first reply wasn't an accident, she had meant to snap at him.
"What's up with you?"
"Oh, you're actually paying attention now?"
"What?"
(Y/N) didn't answer, continuing the game. Tommy remained silent, perplexed at the woman's behaviour. What had he missed? He wondered if his brothers had said anything, but she wouldn't be playing with them still if they had.
Luckily, the family didn't stay for very long that night. They still had work the next day, and although that didn't usually stop them, it was going to be a busy day, a big race was on, meaning lots of betters would swarm the shop. Although (Y/N) was still pissed at Tommy, she expected him to walk her home like he always did. Gathering her things and saying goodbye to everyone, she turned to see if Tommy was also ready to leave, frowning at the sight. There he was, leaning against the bar, talking to that barmaid again. (Y/N) made herself known as she walked over, letting her heels click loudly on the floor.
"Tommy, you coming?" she asked, using his nickname.
"I need to stay. Business." he lazily replied.
"But, you always walk me home."
"Not tonight. One of my brothers will."
(Y/N) glared at the woman across the bar. Maybe it wasn't her fault that Tommy was staying, but it didn't annoy her any less. Whipping around, she quickly made her exit, slamming the door behind her before catching up to the other Shelby's. John and Arthur walked (Y/N) back to her home, not taking any notice of her temper. She was quiet for the most part, only speaking when spoken to. Were all men so oblivious?
Once again, Tommy didn't see (Y/N) at her desk, assuming she was already busy with work. She would pop in soon enough. Settling down in his seat, he noticed there was already two stacks of papers in front of him, before he had even asked to see them. Perhaps (Y/N) had to help the floor today, and made sure he was set up first. But as he sifted through them, he noticed they weren't in categorical order, the dates were all mixed up, some things had been signed and others weren't. Confused at her lack of organisation, Tommy headed towards the door, poking his head out of it.
"Where's (Y/N)?" he asked an employee rushing by.
"Oh, she's out on the floor, Mr Shelby. She offered to help seeing as it's the big race today."
Tommy just nodded, dismissing the man. Stepping out of his office, Tommy scanned the room for her, it was hard to see through the hoards of people in such a small space. As soon as he spotted her on the other side of the room, he made his way through, not caring if he had to push a few people away.
"Why aren't you at your desk?"
(Y/N) was bending low over a table, scribbling down names and numbers."Good morning, Mr Shelby."
"Are you trying to play a game here?"
"I'm simply working, sir."
That would have sounded a lot more pleasing to him if she wasn't being so snappy with him.
"I appreciate that you're helping but those papers you put on my desk are not up to standard."
She still hadn't looked at him."I didn't have time this morning. There were floods of people as soon as we opened. I assumed you could organise them yourself, you're a clever man."
"If you weren't like a member of the family (Y/N), you could be fired for speaking to me like that."
"That's alright, I'll get a job at the Garrison, like that pretty, little barmaid. Then you might actually notice me."
"What?"
She sighed, standing up straight."Would you like me to put those papers in order for you, Mr Shelby?"
"Why are you angry with me?"
"I'm not."
"I don't have time to argue about this. Return to your desk and get on with your usual work."
They stared at each other, not wanting to be the first to fold. (Y/N) pouted, making a show of herself walking away from Tommy. He followed her a few steps behind, watching as she dropped into her seat, immediately getting on with work, and not looking at him once again.
"My usual tea would be nice." he spat before disappearing back into his office.
The day went on like that. (Y/N) brought him a cup of tea but it wasn't how he liked it, the second time she made it, she purposefully used like warm water so it was cold by the time she brought it to him. She gave him pens that were low on ink or just broken, stale biscuits to nibble on; it was all very petty but she didn't care. It was the only way she could get back at him.
After a very long and busy day, the workers were excited to head home and put their feet up. (Y/N) always walked home with Tommy, or at least said bye to him if he could leave. But not tonight. She was making a run for it. Apparently she wasn't running fast enough.
"(Y/N), a word." Tommy ordered before she could even walk past his door.
Huffing, she slumped into his office, loudly closing the door. He held eye contact with her as she approached the desk, not offering her a seat.
"Yes, Mr Shelby?"
"What the fuck is wrong with you today?"
"The fact that I have to tell you annoys me even more."
"So I've done something?"
"Yes."
"And what did I do to upset you so much?"
"You...you didn't walk me home last night." she felt childish saying it out loud, even though that wasn't the actual reason she was upset.
He scoffed."That's why you've been a bad secretary today, eh? And what the fuck is all this formality about?"
"It's professional, isn't it?"
"Yeah, fucking professional to bring me the wrong paperwork."
"It's not like you need me to figure out how to put papers in date order."
"It's your job, (Y/N). You make my job easier, that's what you do. This isn't just because I didn't walk you home last night, what's happened?"
She had no defence, she didn't know what else to say. She couldn't tell him the real reason, it would seem so foolish.
"It's nothing." she mumbled.
Tommy noticed the change in her demeanor."(Y/N), has something happened that I don't know about?"
Technically yes.
"I'm fine. Can I go home please?"
"No. You can't go home." he stood up, coming to stand in front of her."I'm not letting you leave until you tell me what's wrong."
(Y/N) was silent.
"You said something about noticing you, earlier today. Why?"
"I think you're looking too deep into-"
"Why?"
(Y/N) had to bite the bullet. She couldn't come up with another bullshit story fast enough. Even it she did, it wouldn't be believable.
"I was jealous."
"Jealous about what?"
"You and the barmaid. As soon as we walked into the Garrison I was invisible. You wouldn't even look at me. The way you looked at her, I wanted you to have that much attention for me. I want...I want something more Tommy."
"I have never looked at another woman the way I look at you, let alone that barmaid."
"Don't lie. It was like you were infatuated with her."
"I was interested because she's not the regular type of person to work in that kind of place. She's suspicious, I don't trust her. I was trying to get information about her. And I couldn't let thatvmoment go to waste, I stayed behind because she was more open with no one around."
"So, you weren't trying to sleep with her?"
"No."
"But you-"
"(Y/N). I'm not interested in her, at all. Let's be blunt, we both know we've been wasting time."
"What?"
"Did you hear what I said? I can't look at any other women and not compare them to you. You are above everyone and everything else in my life. I've never said any of this to you because of what I do. You were already in danger because of how close you were to the family. But I've realised I can't keep using that as an excuse. I need you (Y/N), I want you."
"You really mean it? You're not just saying all these things? Because you have to mean it, Tommy. I...I've loved you for so long and waited, and waited, and waited for something to miraculously happen. I don't want to ruin it."
"You won't." he stepped closer to her."I love you (Y/N), I fucking love you. I have to have you as mine."
Both of their breaths were getting shallower, they were so close to one another. They had waited for this moment their entire lives. Although it was a sweet moment, the angst that had been building up all day turned into heavy lust. Tommy pulled her towards him by the collar of her coat, roughly smashing their lips together. She instantly gripped onto his waist coat, steadying herself from the sudden action. He turned her around in his grasp so she was against the desk, leaning her back on it. He leant over her as she laid down, kissing her neck.
"Tommy." she half moaned as he sucked on her neck, her fingers gripping on the back of his head and neck."We're...we're doing this here?"
"Yes." he breathed out, hovering over her as he hand gripped her thigh. It slowly moved up under her skirt as he continued speaking."I've imagined this scenario too many times. I'm going to fuck you on this desk like I've always dreamed of doing, and you're going to take it."

(Y/N) smiled as the jeweller showed her the necklace she had just purchased. It was perfect. The piece was thin and delicate, with three, small letters hanging in the middle; M, S and J.
"Is this for your family?" the shop assistant asked.
(Y/N) realised she couldn't exactly say it was for her three boyfriends."Uh yeah."
"Aw, what are their names?"
"Uh, my dad, Marcus, my mum, Stefania and my brother...Jake."
"Would you like to wear it now?"
"Yes, please."
(Y/N) kept looking down at the necklace as she made her way home, fiddling with the letters. With a huge smile on her face, (Y/N) couldn't wait to show everyone.
Entering the flat, she called out, hearing Marc reply. She decided she wouldn't say anything, see if he noticed. She knew he wouldn't but found it funny nonetheless.
"Hey babe." Marc smiled, pulling her towards him by her hips and kissing her.
"Hi." she was always flustered when he did that.
"Where did you go? Thought you were grabbing bread?"
She realised she hadn't covered up her lie."Ah, I went somewhere else actually."
"Yeah? Where?"
"Guess. There's actually a clue on me right now."
Marc looked at her. Could it be her hair? She wasn't gone for long, it couldn't have been that, and it didn't look any different. No new piercings, or tattoos, she would have told him because he would have had to hold her hand. It was a quick trip, she couldn't have bought anything new in that time, she was wearing one of his favourite summer dresses.
"It's her necklace! She's never worn that before." Steven proudly exclaimed.
Jake scoffed."You only noticed cause you were staring at her tits."
"No I wasn't!"
"Hey, I'm not judging, I was too."
"Steven says it's the necklace." Marc said as he looked at it. Steven was right."Wait, did you get all of our initials?"
"Yeah." she shyly smiled."I've had adverts for jewellery on my Instagram, and I wanted one, but I realised I needed to get all your initials."
"That's the cutest thing I've ever seen."
He leaned down, kissing her neck, causing (Y/N) to giggle. He unexpectedly picked her up, enjoying the squeal that came out of her. She wrapped her legs around his waist as he held her up by her ass. He couldn't help but glance down to her breasts, lingering on the initials on the necklace. Lust filled his eyes, licking his lips and grinning as he easily walked her over to the bed.
"This isn't fair, when was the last time I made love to her?"
Marc ignored him, lightly throwing (Y/N) onto her back. He saw a flash of her underwear, the bottom of the dress was ruched up, exposing the very top of her thighs.
"What's got into you?" she lightly laughed, already feeling hot.
"You've got our initials on you, you're telling everyone that you're mine."
"Ours."
"Yeah, whatever."
"Guessing the others didn't like that?"
"I don't care."
"Well, if you're all lucky, I might have time for each of you."
"Don't take long Marc."
"He never does."
"Babe, I've got to prove these two bastards wrong about something."

MASTERLIST
Summary: After a hard day, all (Y/N) wants to do us rant to her boyfriends. But Marc ends up making things worse, and becomes jealous of Steven who seems to solve everything.
Characters: Marc Spector x Reader, Steven Grant x Reader
Meanings: (Y/N)=Your name
Warnings: Swearing, arguing, fluff
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
(Y/N) was frustrated, and that was putting it lightly. She had the worst morning at work, despite only being in for half a day, then when she went to her friend's birthday lunch, all two of the girls could do was argue with each other; turns out, one of them had been sleeping with the other girl's boyfriend, so the argument was justified, except for when they began to get physical with one another. In fact, the whole week had been going downhill for her.
She could crashed on the sofa as soon as she got in the flat. Dragging her feet along the floor, she mumbled a hello to the two fish, before throwing herself back onto the sofa. As she kicked off her shoes, she heard the bathroom door open, Marc walking out. She knew who was present now, but it was incredibly confusing a few months ago.
"Woah, what happened to you?" Marc asked as he approached her.
She didn't like how he worded that."You could just say hello and ask how I am."
"I just did."
"No, Marc, no." Steven could already see this going bad.
(Y/N) huffed, rubbing her eyes."I've had the shittiest day. So my manager had a go at me because I was working a half day, she called me selfish and not a team player, even though she was happy to book it off for me all those weeks ago. Then I was relieved to go meet up with the girls, thinking we would have a lovely meal together. But nope. Turns out Lisa has been sleeping with Erika's boyfriend, and it may as well have been WWE in that restaurant. And just this whole week really. Everyone has been negative, nothing is getting done. Urgh, it's just been a lot."
"Well, it's done now."
Marc didn't mean to sound blunt, he was genuinely having a normal conversation. However, (Y/N) took it the wrong way.
"What's wrong? Has something happened whilst I was out?"
"What? No? Why would you ask?"
"Your tone, it's just very sharp right now."
"It isn't."
"It is."
"Babe, you didn't even say hello when I came in."
"Neither did you."
She huffed."Whatever."
"What have I done wrong?"
"Are you listening to yourself Marc?"
"Nothing. Look, I'm just upset about the day I've had."
"Then leave it at the door, it's done now."
"Maybe I should take over-"
"Marc! What the hell is wrong with you?"
Marc was genuinely confused, growing angry over something so little."What I meant was just forget about it! It's happened, you're home, there's nothing else you can do."
"You don't have to sound so cruel about it! I just wanted to rant to you, get all my feelings out. Instead you've just pissed me off even more."
She stood from the sofa, throwing her handbag to the floor as she made her way over to the bed. Stripping herself of her coat, (Y/N) said nothing as she laid down, curling up into a ball facing away from Marc.
"Look what you've done."
"Me?!" Marc harshly whispered, whipping around to face a mirror where Steven was glaring back."What the hell just happened? I don't know what I've done!"
"Let me take over, it will be better if I handle it."
"No, I'm going to deal with this, I don't need your help."
Before Steven could argue back, Marc approached (Y/N), sitting on the edge of the bed. Although he was determined to sort this, he didn't know where to start.
"Do...do you want a hug?"
(Y/N) rolled over to look at him in disbelief. He had no clue what he had done or how to comfort someone.
"Marc, you're going to make this worse if you keep talking."
"What's with the attitude?"
"I'm not your teenage daughter Marc, speak to me like an adult, like your girlfriend."
"I'll speak to you like an adult when you act like one."
"Mate."
Now Marc knew he had fucked up. (Y/N) shook her head, he saw the tears begin to fall. She rolled back over, her voice snappy as she spoke.
"Go away Marc."
That didn't mean for Marc to physically leave the flat. That meant she wanted him gone and Steven to be with her instead. He hated when she did this. It made him feel invalid. She never told Steven to go away. But he was angry, and he wanted nothing more than to leave the situation.
Steven quickly took over, quicker than expecting, gasping a little when he had the control. He had to pick up the pieces, something that annoyed him. Marc had to learn.
"(Y/N)?" he softly said, he was so different to Marc."Love, do you want to talk?"
When she didn't move, Steven cautiously moved closer, slowly lying down behind her, spooning her as he wrapped one arm around her. He kissed her bare shoulder, feeling her body shake as she started crying.
"(Y/N), what's wrong?, has something besides today happened?"
"No, it's a mix of things." (Y/N) cried, gripping onto the arm wrapped around her.
"Do you want to talk about it?"
"He'll be listening."
"Who? Marc?"
"It's just...it's not just him, for starters. Yes, this week has been hell. Honestly, coming home to you two is always great, it's been such a relief. But Marc just has to ruin it. I can't say anything without a remark, or if something annoys me he has to quip back. I get you're two different people, but after days like these I just want to get my feelings out of my system and cuddle. Marc doesn't get that."
Marc was listening to everything she said. He felt like a dick. He understood why (Y/N) always wanted Steven when she was upset. It was true that he was better at handling it. It hurt that he was the reason she was crying though.
"You know he cares about you right? He might not be as soft as I am, but he does."
"I know, and I feel bad for saying stuff like this. It's how I feel though."
"Dont feel bad, you're expressing your feelings."
"I can't help it. Especially after all you guys do, you don't exactly want to come back from a fight to listen to your girlfriend complain about her normal life."
"Yeah, sometimes the bad guys are easier."
She let out a little giggle. Steven smiled at the sound.
"He's so mad at me, I can feel it." (Y/N) sniffled.
"No, he's never mad at you."
"Yes he is, Steven."
"I would use the word annoyed."
"I guess that's a little better. Do you see him when he gets angry? He looks like he wants to shout and scream at me."
"I do?"
"I'm not scared of him, I know he's not going to hurt me."
"I would never."
"I hate arguing with either of you. You're just easier to resolve with."
"I think you two should talk."
"Not yet, please. I need a moment."
Steven agreed, letting them lie in silence together. He always wanted (Y/N) to be happy, it hurt him so much to see her cry. However, Marc had to step up and take responsibility for these arguments; Steven feared that Marc would push (Y/N) away if he didn't change.
"I need to speak to her."
"Not yet." Steven mumbled back.
"Hm?" (Y/N) perked up."Is that Marc?"
"Yeah. He wants to talk."
"That makes a change." she winced at her tone."Sorry, I didn't mean to be harsh."
"Maybe you should talk now. He's really regretting what he said."
(Y/N) thought for a moment. She was nervous to speak to him. Although she knew they would make up and put it behind them, she wasn't in the mood to start crying again. Slipping out of Steven's hold, she sat up, bringing her knees up to her chest. Wiping at her wet cheeks, (Y/N) sighed.
"OK, let me speak to him."
Her gaze was elsewhere as they switched. The bed shifted beside her, Marc now present and looking unsure.
"I'm sorry for my tone earlier. I don't realise how much I sound like a douchebag at times. And you know Steven is the total opposite of me, you two have never argued."
"I understand that's how you speak sometimes. But I had a hard day and it really wasn't what I wanted to hear."
Marc cautiously inched closer."I know. I'll work on that, I promise. Steven is just so much better at being sympathetic. I never want to see you in a state like this, it pains me. I'm...I'm just crap at consoling people. Which I then get annoyed about because I can't do anything to help."
"I appreciate you trying though Marc."
"You know I love you, more than anything else in this world."
"I know. And I love you just as much. I'm also sorry."
"For what?"
"For always dumping my negativity on you. I could come back a bit happier and also make sure you've had a good day before letting it all out of my system."
"That's what we're here for though. Each of us support each other. And how many times have I come back to you bloodied and bruised up?"
"More times than I would like."
He placed a gentle kiss to her cheek."Are we friends again?"
She looked at him with a smile."Friends."
They kissed, and it was so sweet. (Y/N) got up onto her knees, hugging him close. They needed to speak about this.
"Can we lie down together now?" Marc mumbled into her shoulder.
Without saying anything, (Y/N) fell onto her back, pulling Marc down with her. They laughed as they adjusted into a more comfortable position, both content. Steven was smiling to himself, Marc could be a softie sometimes.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
As I returned home, I eyed up the beautiful dress hanging over the kitchen door, feeling the fabric and admiring it. I had never seen this dress before but it was gorgeous, an extravagant evening gown that every girl would be envious of. But why was it hanging up in Pol's kitchen?
"Pol, who's this dress for?" I asked.
"Would be nice if you greeted me first."
"Sorry, got distracted."
Polly smiled, but it didn't seem genuine."It's for you actually. A gift from Tommy."
"For me? Why is Tommy buying me dresses? He's got good taste actually."
"For a special occasion apparently. We're going out somewhere this afternoon."
"Oh, where?"
"I don't know (Y/N)." there was a slight snap in her tone, but I assumed she was annoyed by my questions."Sorry, just got a lot to do."
"Need help with anything?"
"No, I can handle it. Why don't you start getting ready?"
"Alright, as long as you're sure."
I brushed off Polly's behaviour. My family could have terrible mood swings at times. I understood why, we were in a gang, life could never be simple and sweet. Taking the dress, I quietly squealed to myself, excited to try it on and get myself dolled up. We must have been going somewhere really fancy, probably just to show our faces, show that Tommy was a real family man to benefit the legitimate side of business, give him a good image.
Luckily I had shoes and accessories to match the dress, spending time on how to style my hair and what lipstick to wear. I was never one to boast, but I looked lovely in this outfit. I didn't even question where we could be going or who we would be meeting, not if Tommy was going to buy me a special outfit for each occasion. Headed downstairs when I heard my brother's voices, I was surprised to see them all waiting in the hallway, dressed in their finest suits, and Polly also in one or her best dresses.
"Oh, sorry, am I making us late?"
"No, not at all." Tommy smiled, which was rare. It made me slightly nervous.
"Right. Um, when are we leaving?"
"Might as well head out now. Come on."
Tommy took the lead, walking out of the door, Arthur followed with his head down, whereas John looked at me a little longer, seeming angry. Polly had to nudge him to make him move. Once he walked outside, she held her hand out to me, giving me the same smile from earlier. Either something was going on that I didn't know about or they had just had an argument.
"Pol, me and (Y/N) are going to share a car. The rest of you in the other one." Tommy informed her.
Pol didn't even try arguing back. She squeezed my hand before getting into the car in front of us. Tommy had brought two chauffeurs, he didn't drive as much as he used to now. I wondered why he didn't just meet us at the place we were going to instead of driving all the way here, though I supposed it was for another photo opportunity.
Nothing was said as we set off, both of us just looking out of the window, watching the landscape around us change. My head turned to look at him as he started taking.
"(Y/N), do you know where we're going?"
"No, Pol didn't say anything."
"Good. Right, uh...This is to do with business."
"Oh, OK. Is it the usual, stay with you for a bit then mingle with Polly or the boys whilst you get on with business?"
"No, nothing like that. It actually involves you."
My heart rate had already increased."Me? What? Am I in danger?"
"You're perfectly safe. You're actually going to be even safer after today."
"Can you just tell me what's happening Tommy? The nerves are making me breathe funny."
"I...I had to arrange something."
"Arrange?" I let out a laugh as a thought came into my head."You're not marrying me off are you?"
He didn't reply.
"Oh my god, you are marrying me off!"
"If I told you before, you wouldn't have come."
"Of course I wouldn't! Who am I marrying? Why am I marrying them? Tommy, how could you do this to me?!"
I placed a hand over my chest, feeling like my heart was going to burst out of my chest, my lungs were so tight, I couldn't breathe properly.
"(Y/N), calm down, breathe."
"How can I? You're selling me, you're making me live the rest of my life with a stranger!"
"They're not a stranger."
"Who is it then?"
"It's Bonnie Gold."
"BONNIE GOLD?!"
This was so random. Why was I marrying him? I didn't know him, all I knew about him was how he and his family were now helping protect ours. Tommy also got him a boxing deal, but what did that have to do with me? Why was I being forced to do something? It was just like John all over again.
"It was part of a deal."
"A deal you didn't think to ask my opinion on?"
"Would you have said yes?"
"No!" I tried to steady my breathing but nothing was working."Oh my god, oh my god, I'm getting married to someone I don't know."
"You do know him."
"Not well enough to marry him! We've never even said hello to each other! I think I'm going to be sick. Pull over, please!"
The driver did what I asked, and I immediately jumped out. My legs began walking along the road, I didn't even think about it. Tears were welling up in my eyes over my brother's betrayal. What had I done to deserve this? John needed a wife, he had loads of kids that needed looking after, they worked. What if me and Bonnie didn't? What if he was actually a horrible person? Tommy didn't know him as well as he thought he did, they could be hiding anything.
"(Y/N), get back in the car please."
"No! Why am I getting married for a deal? I'm not out of control, I'm not rowdy, I do what I'm told all the time and I'm nice to everyone! And this is what I get for following the rules, your rules?"
"I wouldn't let you two marry if I thought he would hurt you. Bonnie is going to treat you well (Y/N), I know he is."
"Am I going to have to live in a wagon?!"
His head tilted back as he sighed."Fuck me. No, you're not, you'll be living in a house."
"I can't do it, Tommy, I can't, I really can't do this."
"You have to, I have to keep my end of the bargain."
"Do you know how angry I am with you?!"
"I think so."
There were so many things I wanted to scream at him. Who else knew? Why did they let him do it? Who's idea was it in the first place? I couldn't though. My breathing was out of control, my eyes were stinging with tears, and loud sobs were coming out of my mouth.
Tommy gently put his hands on my shoulders, making me stand up straight."We do things for this family, yeah? We go through hardships to make our family stronger. And I'm asking you (Y/N), please go along with this. If we can keep an alliance with the Gold's, it will only bring us good. I wouldn't ask you if I was desperate or if I didn't think you could do it."
I contemplated running away there and then. However, I wasn't going to get far in these shoes. Home was too far away by now, the roads weren't clear and if anyone recognised me, I could be dead within hours.
"I really have to do this, don't I?"
Tommy nodded, cautiously wrapping an arm around me to slowly take us back to the car. For the rest of the drive I hung my head, staring at the pretty shoes I had picked for today. This was it. I was getting married. Married to a man I had only seen but never talked to, married to a man to settle a deal. My brother, who I trusted and loved, had thrown me to the dogs, not even glancing back to face the consequences of his actions; it was all to benefit him.
We pulled up at Tommy's house. He explained that since this was a quick arrangement it was easier to hold the ceremony there, it was more personal, they knew it was safe. My stomach cramped up as I stepped inside, spotting the bouquet of flowers everywhere. They even fucking decorated. Ada and Polly were at the entrance, both looking as pissed off as I was. Unfortunately, Ada held my own bouquet in her hands.
"You can't do this Tom. Just cancel it, go in there and say the wedding is off. She's just a girl." Ada spat.
"Ada." Polly warned.
"You can't go along with this Pol. She's being forced into a marriage!"
Tommy cleared his throat."Ada, Pol, please take your seats."
"Hold on," Pol pulled out her powder box from her purse, dabbing the brush on my face,"need that beautiful face of yours back."
I knew she was trying to cheer me up, and clean me up so I would look like such a mess. It would all just stream off my face later. My hands shook as I held the flowers, the petals and leaves slightly rustling. Polly and Ada left hesitantly, shushing everyone in the hall where I assumed the ceremony was taking place.
"Are you going to be sick?" Tommy asked.
"Not sure." I whispered.
"Just know that I hate this too. I wouldn't-"
"Shut up Tommy."
I never snapped at Tommy, or anyone really. But this called for it. I could have called him every nasty name under the sun there and then. When he held out his arm for me, I reluctantly took it, wishing I could sprint to the stables to steal a horse, ride off into the sunset. But it was too late, because the doors to the hall opened, and there everyone stood, watching intently as I walked down the aisle. I didn't even have a proper wedding dress.
It felt like I had never worn heels before, I was wobbling all over the place. Bonnie looked miles away, though I was beside him in seconds. His family were here, my family sat on the opposite side. Tommy gingerly pressed a kiss to my cheek before going to sit down. And here I was, stood next to my soon to be husband. He kindly smiled at me, though I couldn't bear to even look at him, eyes flickering away. I stared at Jeremiah who was officiating the wedding, the poor man must have thought I was evil the way I was looking at him.
The ceremony felt muffled, as if I couldn't hear anything properly. Jeremiah waffled on, until we had to say our vows and exchange the rings. I focused so much on his words to not get them wrong, only realising that after we had said them to each other, that was it, we were now married.
"I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride." Jeremiah announced.
Both our families clapped to fill the silence. Bonnie leaned down but I retracted out of instinct. He halted before moving again, slower this time, to kiss my cheek. Taking my hand in his, he walked us out of the hall, the doors closing behind us. I let out a shocked breath, looking at the ring on my finger. Bonnie went to speak.
"So, I-"
I snatched my hand out of his, scurrying to the kitchen to find a bottle of wine. I needed a drink, and a lot of it. I also wanted to get out of any awkward conversations that were about to ensue. There was way too much going on right now to start small talk.
Unfortunately he had followed me, watching as I popped open a bottle. I glanced at the glass in my hand, deciding to set it down and drink from the bottle.
"I'm not that bad am I?" Bonnie tried to joke.
I didn't say anything, leaning back against the counter.
"Look, I'm sorry this has happened. We don't know each other, back in there was the first time we've spoken, it's a lot. But I want you to know that I'm going to look after you. We'll go at your pace, whatever you're comfortable with. I want us to be friends at least."
He sounds genuine. When Bonnie first joined the Peaky Blinders, he hadn't been overly cocky like some of the others. Of course he was a bit more boastful when it came to the ring, though that was all part of his image. And he was the only peaky boy to not try it on with me. Ironic.
"Sorry for just going in for the kiss too. I thought a small peck wouldn't hurt."
"It's fine." I mumbled, casting my eyes to the floor.
He took a few seconds before speaking again."Never been much of a wine person."
I looked up at him as he stood opposite to me, also leaning back in a countertop.
"Suppose that could change." he held out his hand for the bottle, indicating that I pass it over.
He took a swig, scrunching up his face and coughing after. The corner of my mouth twitched at how silly he looked, but didn't show him that.
"God, that is so sweet. How do you chug it back?"
"I don't usually." I squeaked out."Just...just flet like I needed to."
He passed the bottle back to me."I won't lie, I don't exactly want my new wife to be drunk on our first night together."
My eyes widened.
"No, not like that! Nothing is going to happen. I just meant, I would like to use this time to get to know you."
I was being stubborn. I wanted to go against him, just to spite Tommy. But I was too shy, I couldn't even hold eye contact with him.
"I'll leave you alone for a bit. But please come up to the party, my family can't wait to meet you." he made his way to the door, stopping and turning around."You look beautiful tonight."
I didn't let him see me blush, turning away as I drank more from the bottle. I hated how easily I was embarrassed. Boys tried flirting with me, though I knew that was because they wanted to say they had shagged a Shelby girl. Of course I knew their intentions, hence why I was still a virgin.
After a few more swigs, I knew I had to go back upstairs. Setting the almost finished bottle aside, I took a deep breath, adjusting the bottom of my dress, checking my face in a mirror before heading to see my family and new in-laws.
When I returned, everyone was gathered in the lavish front room. Music was playing, champagne was being handed out, and everyone seemed relatively happy chatting with one another. Finn, John and Adawere the only ones not mingling, scowling faces on them as they observed the others.
"(Y/N)," a man caught my attention, it was Bonnie's father,"welcome to the family."
I politely smiled."Thank you sir."
"Call me Aberama. I appreciate the manners though. And I understand you're not entirely happy with this marriage."
I glanced away from him."But believe me when I say that Bonnie has been just as nervous. Although he is also very determined to ensure you are comfortable and feel like a part of the family."
That was nice, I guess.
"He has multiple sisters who you might find easier to talk to rather than an old man."
He raised his drink to me, smiling as he walked away. I really didn't want to talk to anyone, scurrying to my three siblings who were most against this arrangement.
"You alright?" Finn draped his arm around my shoulders, and I quickly hugged him, clinging on.
I shook my head no.
"Of course she isn't. This is all a big mistake, we should have come up with a plan to get her out of here." Ada huffed.
John scoffed."Oh yeah, that would have gone down a treat with both families."
"You were just as much against it all as we were."
"No one was for this marriage, well, besides Tom. But it's done now, innit? I'll just have to keep a special eye on the new in-law."
"Can we stop talking about it please? Just talk about anything else." I asked quietly, realising some of the others were looking over at us, and that made me incredibly nervous.
Before we even had a chance to change the topic, someone from Bonnie's side of the family made her way over. I looked anywhere but her, until she was stood beside me. She was beautiful, probably around the same age as myself, though her confidence gave her a more mature look.
"I thought I would come over and introduce myself. I'm Esmeralda, one of Bonnie's sisters."
"Nice to meet you."
Get a grip woman.
"There's actually three of us, sisters I mean. Poor Bonnie didn't have any brothers to rough around with. Though I suppose it is only you and Ada amongst all these men."
Ada smiled at her, though you could tell it was out of sarcasm. I cringed, hoping Esmeralda hadn't seen that.
"I was wondering if you wanted to join us?" she gestured to where her other sisters were, who waved.
"Um, yes."
It sounded more like a question, but Esmeralda took that answer. I worriedly looked back to my own siblings, annoyed at my politeness. Where was my Shelby fire?
I sat by Esmeralda, the others sitting across from us. She instantly started up a conversation, it was easy to see she was fine around strangers. I only wished to half as confident as her. Her sisters also chimed in now and then, trying to involve me in the conversation. There was no talk about the wedding, just typical girly things; dresses, makeup, dances, they even spoke about their traditions. It slowly moved onto the topic of Bonnie, though past stories about him, tales of how he was as a child. I even managed to break out a smile.
"And obviously we'll all be getting to know each other a bit better once we're all moved in together." Esmeralda exclaimed.
"S-sorry?"
Esmeralda and her sisters held a serious look, bursting out laughing a second later. I was confused, had I missed a joke?
"Sorry, I was trying to lighten the mood. Of course we're not living with you two!"
"I don't even know where we're living."
"Well, neither do we, but I'm sure your brother has sorted it."
"Yeah..."
"Sorry, have I upset you?"
"No! No, I'm fine." I was tempted to excuse myself, but I went against that. I was going to be social."So, is there abythibg else I should know about Bonnie?"
Perhaps this was my way of getting to know my husband without actually talking to him. Even if it was a subconscious thing, I was getting information about him. And there didn't seem to be a bad bone in his body unless he was in the ring, or defending his sisters from a man who had disrespected them, though that was more chivalrous.
"Sorry ladies, may I borrow my sister?" Tommy asked, gesturing for me to follow him.
I smiled at the girls, catching up with my brother who was making his way to his office, grabbing Bonnie on the way. I faltered when he stepped in line with me, not used to having a boy so close to me. Bonnie let me go first into the office, closing the door behind him. Tom nodded his head towards the two chairs at the desk, sitting behind it. We sat down, waiting to hear why he had brought us here.
"So, seeing as you two are married now, you'll be needing a place of your own." Tommy started."And I have provided that for you."
"No, Tommy, we couldn't accept that." I protested, feeling awkward about situations involving money.
"I agree Mr Shelby, that's way too generous. You already let us get married in your house."
"It's my fault you two are married right now. And I just hope that I can gain back some trust and..." he glanced at me,"love, by doing this."
I picked at the skin around my nails, a bad habit."Are you sure Tommy? Nothing too big right?"
"No. It's a new build but out in the country. You also have a big patch of land, I thought you might appreciate that Bonnie. It's secluded, like this. Three bedrooms, kitchen, front room, all the other shit."
"Thank you very much Mr Shelby." Bonnie stood, reaching out his hand.
Tommy shook it, no expression on his face.
"Thanks Tom. I guess it's a start to your apology."
I felt guilty for saying that, but I wanted it to sting. He had really hurt me today, I wasn't going to fall to his feet because he bought me a house.
Tommy then informed us that it was time for us to leave. He had one of his chauffeurs waiting, and everyone had followed us outside. They had rice to throw at us as we went to the car. In a way, I appreciated the effort they were putting in to make it seem like a happy occasion, I also found it demeaning. You're now being forced to marry a man you don't know, but here's a pretty dress and some champagne.
"I don't have anything with me." I pointed out before I got in the car.
Polly stepped forward, quietly speaking so no one else would hear."Tommy made Ada pack some of your things before she came here. Obviously she didn't want to, but you need your clothes at least. I'll be round with the rest of it soon love."
Wow, they weren't waiting around to get rid of me. Sadly getting into the car, I didn't even acknowledge Bonnie as he opened and closed the door for me. Once Bonnie was inside the car, the chauffeur drove off. I coukd hear our families cheering for us, I didn't bother looking back, whereas Bonnie was waving.
"You alright?" he asked softly.
I nodded, pressing my lips together as I looked away, trying to hold back my tears. Thankfully he left it at that, he knew I needed time to process everything.
The house Tommy got us was no where near the size of his, though I didn't want that. It was still big for two people, and despite it being a new house, it had an old fashioned look to it. It had the feel of a farm house without the barn, different stones making the structure with vines growing all over it. I loved it, which was irritating because Tommy knew me so well.
"This is going to be strange." Bonnie said as he helped the chauffeur with the bags."Never lived in a house before."
"Oh...hope you like it."
It was a wonder why I never had a boyfriend.
I had wished that the chaffuer had taken more time with the bags. Because Bonnie was a gentleman, he insisted helping, and the task was completed far too quickly. Now it was just me and Bonnie, in our house, our house we loved in together as a married couple.
"Shall we take a look around? See what's actually in our house?"
Bless him, he was trying so hard. I agreed, letting him lead as we checked each room. It was all furnished, there was even some food in the kitchen, soap and towels in the bathroom, any little things we wouldn't have packed with us were provided. He was in awe of the place, I knew he was used to travelling to different places, it was just strange to see his expressions over a house.
"Your brother is very generous."
"Yes, though I know why he's given this to us."
"To make up for marrying me?"
"No, well yes, but not in the way you said. Sorry Bonnie, you must think I'm horrible. It's just...I'm really shy around new people, it took so much energy out of me talking to everyone today, not to mention the actual ceremony itself. I probably would have fainted if I wasn't concentrating on acting normal."
"I didn't think you were horrible. I knew you were scared. I'm afraid your acting skills need some work."
We had walked into one of the bedrooms as we spoke, my stomach dropping again. Was I going to have to share a bed with him? I had never done that before.
"Choose which room you like. I'll sleep in another." he said.
"Hm?"
"I'm not going to sleep in the same room as you, I wouldn't put you under that pressure."
"Oh, thank you. Then, you should choose."
He smiled at me."Fine, then I choose you having the master bedroom, and I shall go see what other room I prefer."
I managed to smile back, bashful over how sweet he was being. That was a huge relief lifted off my chest. If he hadn't mentioned anything before bedtime, I wouldn't have said anything, I didn't want to bring up topic.
We both got changed (separately) into something comfier, weirdly emerging from our rooms at the same time. Deciding it was time to eat, we rummaged through the kitchen cabinets to see what we could muster up. I took charge, seeing as Bonnie had only ever cooked over a fireplace.
"Sorry it's not much, it's bits and pieces really." I set his plate down in front of him, thinking how much of a wife I looked right now.
"Thank you. Don't worry, I'm sure it will be delicious. We can go shopping for food tomorrow if you want?"
That's what couples do.
"Yeah, that's a good idea."
We kept to our food, eating in silence. I tried to eat as quickly as I could, wanting this dreadful tension to lift and be over with. I felt terrible because he was trying so hard to be a good husband to me already, or just a good friend really. And here I was, not even able to eat a meal with him, he must have been dreading the rest of his life with me.
As he finished, I quickly stood to clear everything away, already starting to clean up as he protested. We still had a whole evening ahead of us, what were we supposed to do? I caught him moving in my peripheral vision, grabbing two wine glasses and the bottle of champagne gifted to us. He held them up to me.
"Fancy sharing a bottle?"
We were sat in the front room on opposite ends of the sofa, the lit fireplace crackling in front of us. Bonnie was casually facing me whilst I stared into the flames.
"You surprised me you know, when I first saw you." he said.
"What do you mean?"
"When I first joined the blinders, I remember seeing you, and I obviously thought 'wow, she's gorgeous', though I knew to stay away."
There I went, blushing again.
"But you weren't like your family. You weren't harsh or outspoken, you were so quiet. I've seen you around your family, I know you are different with them, and I get that I'm a complete stranger to you so it will be different. I just hadn't expected a Shelby to be so....reclusive."
"A lot of people say that."
"That wasn't me saying it's a bad thing by the way!"
"It is a bad thing when you're a Shelby. I'm not trusted to do anything within the business. This is the first time they've used me. And they didn't even ask."
"That's a good thing though, isn't it? About not being involved in the business?"
"I guess."
"Let's talk about something else, eh? Uh, why don't you tell me...your favourite colour?"
"Favourite colour? Really?"
He laughed."I need to get to know my wife don't I?"
Although I had been answering his basic questions terribly (and boringly, I was just giving one word answers), Bonnie somehow made me open up to him. Not about anything deep or meaningful, just generic facts about my life; what I enjoy doing, funny anecdotes from my childhood, what I liked to do when I went out with friends. In turn, I began asking him questions. We were talking for hours, but we didn't realise that until I happened to glance at the clock on the mantelpiece.
The next week still felt awkward. We slept in our separate rooms, trying to work our different routines to fit each other. Although we were able to talk to each other for more than two minutes, I was always trying to figure out what to talk about next. I didn't want to be in a situation where we were stuck on what to say, I hated that. Looking back on it, I had never spoken to someone so much or so freely besides my family and my small handful of friends.
Both of our families came to visit us. Polly and Ada stayed for a day, mostly catching up but also helping me make the house feel more homely. Aberama only came some mornings to get Bonnie, doing whatever work for my brother, though he always made sure to say hello. Bonnie was gone for a majority of the day, luckily I liked being by myself. Surprisingly, Esmeralda also came for a visit.
"Lovely flowers." she pointed out as we sat in the kitchen, each with a cup of tea.
"Bonnie got them for me."
"Did he?" she smirked."He's a sweetheart isn't he?"
I couldn't help but shyly smile."Yes, it was a lovely gesture."
"A romantic gesture. He may be a tough man and a fighter but he's a big sofite really."
I hummed in agreement.
"Are you alright? How have you two been over the last month?"
I wanted to say that although I did like Bonnie, I knew I was lucky to be in an arranged marriage with him and not some fifty year old, slimy man, I didn't want her to get excited at the thought we might already be in love.
"I won't lie, it's been slow. That's not to say I don't enjoy Bonnie's company, it's just...everyday when I wake up, I still get a little confused at the ring on my finger, then in a second I remember I'm married."
"Yeah, that's never going to be something you can easily forget I guess."
"And I'm not being rude about your brother. Bonnie has been amazing, he's kept his boundaries, made sure I felt respected. But, your wedding day is supposed to be the happiest day of your life. Choosing your dress, what hair and makeup you want, the venue, the cake, it's all part of it. I didn't even have a proposal."
"Oh (Y/N)."
"And when those doors open, you're supposed to look down the aisle and see your soul mate waiting for you. You both smile and start crying because the day has finally come. I had none of that. I'll never have any of that."
She placed her hand over mine."I think over time, you and Bon will learn to love each other. And as frustrating as that is, I believe it will happen."
Esmeralda was a huge comfort. I felt better after talking with her than I did my family. I guessed that it was because she was a new person to talk to, I didn't know what she was going to say, so I wasn't listening to the same dribble I was used to.
It was like any other evening when Bonnie came home. I was reading a book in the front room, sprawled out on the sofa. He called out as he entered the house, I replied but didn't move. He was rustling around in the kitchen, things were being moved around, cupboards opening and closing. Perhaps he was hungry and needed a snack before dinner. I left him to it for a few more seconds, deciding to investigate when he didn't stop.
Just as I was about to walk into the kitchen, Bonnie blocked the doorway, trying to use his whole body to limit my view.
"Hi." he said breathless.
"Hello. Um, are you alright?"
"Yeah, yeah, just...just doing...something."
Whenever I tried to look around him, he moved in my way.
"If you've broken something Bonnie, I don't mind. I'd rather help clean it up."
"No, nothing like that. Could you just...jist trust me?"
I looked up at him, thinking about it.
"Please?"
"Uh, yeah."
"Is it alright if you wait in front room? It's nothing bad, I promise."
I turned around, glancing back at Bonnie before I returned to the sofa and my book. What was he doing? Was he trying to cook? It was sweet if he was, though when we had cooked together before he was never this clumsy. I couldn't ignore the racket coming from the kitchen, unable to concentrate on any of the words in my book.
"Bonnie? Are you sure you're OK in there?" I shouted out to him.
"Yeah!" he quickly replied. Only moments later was he in the front room, a huge grin on his face."If you would like to follow me to your surprise."
"Surprise?"
He nodded, holding out his hand to me. I took it, letting him guide me back to the kitchen. The lights were off, the only source of light was coming from a few candles in the centre of the table, more dotted around the kitchen too. There were two plates with nothing in them, instead, there were different foods on scattered on the table like a picnic.
"Bonnie?"
He stood in front of the table."I spoke with my sister the other day. I wasn't snooping, I just wondered how you were with her, if you told her something about me that I needed to change. She told me how upset you were that you couldn't experience your wedding day properly, and I thought I could help with that. So, I asked Ada and Pol what your favourite food was, all types, and I thought we could have a romantic dinner together. "
I was gobsmacked. A man who was forced into marrying me, who didn't know me, had put all this effort into a dinner together, something no other man would probably do.
"You did this for me?"
"Yeah. You deserve it. You deserve a lot more really, but I'm still learning to cook other recipes besides rabbit stew."
I giggled.
"I hope you don't mind, but they also told me how you've never been on a date before."
That wasn't embarrassing at all.
"And I want you to know, that's because of you brothers. Men tremble at their feet, what do you think teenage boys are going to be like? But I am very honoured to be the first man to take you on a date."
"This is the kindest thing anyone has ever done for me. I'm shocked, honestly."
He pulled out a chair for me, and I sat, feeling giddy. Bonnie tucked me in, taking a seat beside me before pouring out a glass of wine for me. My mind argued with itself over my next choice, but I bit the bullet. I confidently leaned over, very quickly pecking his lips. I couldn't look at him when I next spoke.
"Thank you Bonnie. And thank you for being the best husband."
"Well thank you for being the best wife."
"What have I done to be a good wife?"
"Just being you."
