Not a qu, but - I read your Sniperscout wedding post doomscrolling under the #TF2 tag, and, as Māori, I needed you to know that my heart was absolutely pounding at randomly seeing the fact that someone used Aotearoa in place of New Zealand !

Ik on a surface level it’s so little of something to get flighty about, but, rrAHH how do I phrase this - as someone who isn’t at all related to my culture, who then doesn't have any reason nor obligation to acknowledge it as separate to the ‘kiwi’ culture we’re much better known for - I appreciate you so m uch for doing so anyway <3

Aotearoa in my AU isn’t just New Zealand as a whole, it’s the country that the Māori people can now thrive in. It’s a place they don’t have worry about other people trying to take that away from them again.

Bill-Bel may be the villain of this story for lying and being a terrible parent, but he does truly love the Aotearoa he’s helped create and so is Sniper.

This story is as much about Māori Sniper as it is about Aotearoa❤️

I think I was partially named after my great grandmother who had my name as one of her middle names

eeerrmmm... I sort of cried yesterday when my sister showed me a gifset of Rocket with the baby raccoons in gotg3 (we thought we could handle it by now. we were wrong.)

I am but a 25 year old teenage girl so no way absolutely not are you kidding me???!

I think so? But not in a way that it’s like a significant feature of mine or anything

This is a difficult question because it depends on the person! Whatever their most striking feature is I guess? The other day I saw a guy who must have been like over 7 feet tall so for him it was that! Actually, in saying that I do often notice peoples’ height as I’m a pretty tall girl meself so for guys or girls to be taller than me is something I pick up on quickly cos it doesn’t happen much

There are only a few I remember but one funny one when I was like uh I think 6 or 7 is: We were at our Zoo and they got deer and there was this young buck behind the fence and my stupid ass lowered my head...like when bucks do when they fight...and he took it as a threat or whatever and charged the fence. 💀 His antlers pierced through the fence but I was fine cause I was further away.

Just a heads up about your tags on the Australian referendum, Maori are from Aotearoa, not Australia. Australian First Nations people prefer First Nations, Aboriginal Australian, or Indigenous Australian, and the culture is not related to the Maori culture in any way.

Hi there! May i ask your help for something NZ related? I came across your very educational post under the wwdits tag. My question is: is auckland in wellington? Or is it the other way around? Or theyre two entirely different places? NZ is so underrated i wish i can visit soon. (Also apparently its a huge country?! Maps always portray it as a tiny island)

Aotearoa/NZ is the same length as the US East Coast or thereabouts. It's bigger than a lot of countries in Europe.

Most maps project countries smaller than they actually are because the Earth is a globe and some effort has to go into making a globe map viewable on a flat surface.

Aotearoa is not just a one note tiny country at the bottom of the world with one particular view or aspect. We're near world-leaders in many things and we have a rich, wholly diverse culture - we're not underrated, you've just been taught that other countries don't matter as much as your own. We're not a mystical fictional land and simultaneously, we're not a tiny island. We're the same as your country, except probably a bit smaller.

Favorite time of the year? If we're talking nature, then I don't have a favourite time. I love how the seasons change and how every month is different. They're all beautiful. Culturally I suppose I like December/January? Because I get to have free time at christmas, my birthday is in January, and everything is about reflecting on the year that's past and making plans for the year to come. I don't know. Yeah. I'll go with that.

Comfort food? Potato chips and cheese cubes.

Favorite dessert? I like to invent layered desserts with fruit and crushed cookies and different yoghurt-cream-sugar-mixes. Sometimes I put a bit of liqueur in the mix, too. Yum.

Things you collect? Nothing any more, I suppose. Unless you count DVDs and books and everything to do with my current crush xp

Hint: This is based off of (one version) of a very famous Māori tale from the north island (Te Ika-a-Māui) of New Zealand (Aotearoa). The smirking man isn’t the ‘hero’ of the story but is the cause of the other mens’ plight.

Please note: I am not a Māori person, so I didn’t include Tā Moko, as it is highly personal and culturally significant.
