Monsters University (2013)

This is a Movie Health Community evaluation. It is intended to inform people of potential health hazards in movies and does not reflect the quality of the film itself. The information presented here has not been reviewed by any medical professionals.

Monsters University has a party scene where strobe lights are used throughout, which becomes safe when things get quieter, and what happened during the strobes is shown in safe circumstances. Late in the film, emergency vehicle strobe lights are used for about 30 seconds. Flickering lights are used in the climactic moment of the film. There are a few moments with quick camera flashes, which use the double-flash effect. Two scenes have people running with flashlights, which may create brief, mild strobe effects.

Some high-speed action is followed, but all of the camera work is very smooth.

Flashing Lights: 7/10. Motion Sickness: 1/10.

Matteo & Annika have both grown up in Copperdale and have been a couple since high school! Ann was heavy in love with Matteo from the beginning, who often spent his school days making trouble or having trouble... which earned him a certain reputation. Her parents, of course, did not agree with their relationship, but well, where love falls! Matteo returned the feelings of his girlfriend. After graduation they promised each other that their ways will never part and they will stay together forever. Let's hope that their dream will not burst like a soap bubble :x

Alyson & Rupert went to high school together at Copperdale and were also a couple until after graduation from the University at Britechester. Then they parted ways for three years until both returned to Copperdale. Both are starting as teachers at their former high school and will soon cross paths again :x

Matteo is Rupert's best friend and Annika is Alyson's best friend, the four have been friends since childhood and all went to high school together in Copperdale... and later also to the University in Britechester.

Hailey is the younger sister of Rupert. They don't look very similar, which is because she looks like their mother and Rupert looks like their father. She actually lives with her brother in Copperdale, but at the moment she is in Britechester studying literature and comes home for a short time after each semester... Well and Seth, he actually lives in Copperdale too, but you don't get to see him very often. He's rarely in town and avoids people most of the time, so it's more likely that you'll meet him in the woods of Moonwood Mill. Seth has a secret that only a few know about, will he tell Hailey about it? Probably not right away at their first meet :x

Academy of Country Music Honors 2022/CMT Artists Of The Year 2022

So today on the MSR (Midnight Star Review), I will be talking about 2 shows in one blog. And those are the Academy of Country Music Honors 2022 & CMT (Country Music Television) Artists of the year 2022. I will be posting my Artists of the year closer to the end of the year. So let's get started with the Academy of Country Music Honors 2022.

This show was hosted by Carly Pearce and aired on Fox. This was the 15th annual edition and originally aired on 9/13/22 at 8pm EST (Eastern Standard Time). Here is what they played first then we will head to the awards after.

Brooks & Dunn - Kerosene (Miranda Lambert cover). Jordan Davis - What my world spins around.

And here is the awards. What was handed out and who won what.

Awards. ACM Milestone Award goes to Morgan Wallen. ACM Spirit Award goes to Chris Stapleton. ACM Icon Award goes to Connie Bradley. ACM Triple Crown Award goes to Miranda Lambert. ACM Film Award goes to Yellowstone. ACM Service Award goes to Duane Clark. ACM Poet Award goes to Sonny Throckmorton. ACM Poet Award goes to Shania Twain. ACM Songwriter of the year goes to Hardy.

And that's a wrap for the Academy of Country Music Honors 2022, but we are not done here with the awards. Up next is the CMT (Country Music Television) Artists of the year 2022. So let's get started right now on this show as well.

This was a show to honor Artists Walker Hayes, Luke Combs, Carly Pearce, Lainey Wilson, Kane Brown, Loretta Lynn, Cody Johnson, & Alan Jackson. This show was hosted by Martina McBride and was on Friday October 14th, 2022 at 9pm EST (Eastern Standard Time).

And that's a wrap for both shows. And on the MSR (Midnight Star Review), I do like other artists singing other songs for their friends. So I would give both of these shows a 3 out of 5 stars. Rant time, but like, people who complain about the diamonds in Steven Universe getting "redeemed" and "facing no consequences" like, why did you ever think the diamonds getting destroyed was on the table as an option? Why did everyone think the show was going to end with Steven fighting and killing the diamonds, or the universe dolling out some Hayes Code Karma Violence like a giant rock falling on them at the last second? Like I guess I understand the criticism in theory that Steven Universe's metaphor for the diamonds as toxic family members falls apart when you consider they're crimes as space monarchs doing a colonialism, but Steven isn't The Avatar. At no point in the show does he even have the power to doll out the punishment you guys want.

Steven *does* try to fight the diamonds, and he gets his ass kicked. He gets smashed under his own shield and knocked out. His mom forms an entire army to fight them and LOSES and has almost all of her friends corrupted by them. The Diamonds are bigger, badder and stronger than The Crystal Gems (kind of like how adults are bigger and stronger than children.) So instead, he reveals his identity as Pink and the Diamonds immediately stop trying to kill him and the show instead pivots to be about political diplomacy. He doesn't like the diamonds, by the time Future rolls around we find out that he hates them and has private thoughts about killing them even now that that they don't pose any threat. But during the show he's powerless and so instead, talking to them and trying to change their mind is just a practical option because fighting hasn't worked. Because in the real world, there are times you will be outmatched and violence won't be the answer—even if the people hurting you probably do deserve violence.

And the diamonds aren't "redeemed," they just change their mind. They just decide that they want to keep Pink in their lives, so they begin to take accountability and undo the damage that they caused with their war, and presumably will spend the next thousands of years of their lives dismantling their own empire. And again, Steven Universe Future discusses the discomfort and the downside of this approach, that even if it's better and harm is actively being undone, the diamonds can't resolve all the harm they've done and Steven largely doesn't feel like he's gotten justice for what they did to him and his mother—much less the universe. So I don't get where anyone gets off saying this story is irresponsible or saying you should just forgive bad people. I don't see that anywhere in the story. The theme of Universe has always been the necessity of change, and so it makes sense that the villains aren't forgiven or revealed to be good people—but that they just change.

why do u think the owl house was a mediocre show (genuinely curious)

i think it was trying to be too many things at once and splitting the difference on all of the various subgenres of fantasy adventure show it tried to take advantage of means it wasn't able to deliver on any of them. it didn't quite feel like a magic school show, like a witch's apprentice show, like a magical adventure show, or a defeating the big villain show in a satisfying way.

i also feel like luz's arc as a protagonist wasn't super compelling, i don't think she was really given enough meaningful flaws and so her character growth felt like going throw the motions rather than a reflection of how she's been compelled to grow and change by her specific circumstances. In particular, i feel like the part where the tables turn and luz starts getting to teach everyone else magic just doesn't feel very earned

it's a show which very much wears its influences on its sleeves which is not a bad thing but i can't help but feel that it invites unfavorable comparison because the bits and pieces of inspiration it took from these other franchises don't come together to be greater than the sum of their parts.

this is a weird comparison but it reminds me a lot of what josh strife hayes says as a common complaint from failed mmos; they're so often trying to take everything they like about every other mmo and combine it into one smorgasbord that they fail to be the best at anything. that's the impact TOH had on me. a lot of good fragments that didn't manage to crystalize

i also honestly just didn't think it was that funny. which loses big points
