People walked out of Kristen Stewart’s new movie ‘Crimes Of The Future’ Because They are So Grossed Out
Every single gaping, weird bruise in his movies, it makes my mouth open. You wanna lean in toward it,” Kristen Stewart said of her new movie ‘Crimes of the Future.’ (more…)

I do feel like I'm somehow getting away with something by watching all these Artistic Films. Like somehow I'm sneaking into a gilded theater, I'm rubbing my hands on the film canisters and DVD box sets, I'm taking a permanent marker and scrawling my little notes and opinions on the blank projection screen knowing that, come Monday, the janitor is going to open the doors and sigh, because Whelp, she's back again; apparently she had some thoughts about how Infinity Pool and Poor Things both reflect our postmodern concerns surrounding construction of the self. *sigh* It's going to take all day to wash this off...

On the Cronenbergs, Infinity Pool and Crimes Of The Future…
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I really liked Infinity Pool. Even though it dragged on for longer than it maybe should have, I definitely feel like Brandon truly came into his own with it. He absolutely takes after and builds on the aesthetics of his father, David. They are co-existing in this Cronenbergian cinematic universe beautifully. But the highlight of the film is its lead actress, Mia Goth. Just wow. There's a certain scene in the end of the film where she is sitting on a hood of a car, and that whole scene truly solidifies her as a bona fide horror queen. I was floored at points. Watching her career is exciting as hell, and if you're not looking her way yet, why aren't you?

I didn't really care for Crimes Of The Future, though. It was stunning technically and visually, but for me, it lacked substance and felt a bit vapid at points. But I did feel it was sort of a full-circle film for David. I was reading The Singularity Is Near: When Humans Transcend Biology again at the time I watched it, and I could see some reflections of the book in sub-plots in the film. Anyways, I don't know why I wrote this all out, it's just that these films have been on my mind a lot since I saw them… which Is meaningful because the art succeeded its mission in affecting the viewer.
