[[ 19, 30, 42, 48, and 50 for Larzen --if you're still accepting these for the 'character solidifying' thing that is! ]]
19. What were your character’s deepest disillusions? In life? What are they now?
Larzen’s earliest disillusions was how inherently flawed Arkan society was and how it dealt with legality in its continuous experiments- experiments and projects were meant to be approved by the general leadership first before being implemented, but various groups went on to conduct experiments in secret regardless, sometimes resulting in truly disastrous consequences. The leadership were picked from among the wisest of scientists in most cases, and therefore often had a better understand over whether or not experiments should go through or not.
The majority understood this, but so long as the minority who did not truly care for the opinions of their leaders existed, chaos and disorder continued to sow as a result of their callousness. Larzen viewed the lack of an adequate system beyond apprehending the Arkans in question at the spur of the moment as incredibly dissatisfying, wanting to put a system in place that would ensure these experiments were prevented before they could cause trouble.
Although his proposal and detailed plans of this new system were ultimately what got him into the leadership in the first place, even since having implemented his new order system, a few Arkans continue to slip under his radar and it displeases him. He is dedicated to the safety and security of Homeworld’s inhabitants, and for so long as he cannot adequately protect them, he will never truly be at peace or rest. He is disillusioned that even with his efforts, he can’t entirely keep order in perfect condition, especially with the growing suspicion that his very leader might be one of those causing the problems he has to clean up...
30. Are they holding on to something in the past? Can he or she forgive?
Larzen himself had a fairly decent upbringing, not suffering any childhood problems of particular note- except for the fact that his very PSI is poisonous to him thanks to a defect he aquired from birth. Ever since the day he was born he has to take in constant injections designed to control and thin out the PSI in his body, leaving him at somewhat of a stunted level of PSI compared to his cohorts. He isn’t crippled however, his PSI as it exists even under the serum’s influence is far from laughable, and if anything, he is valued for his dedicated mind more than for his physical and mental abilities.
However, he is aware of the fact that his defect is born from the very unstable creation/birth process that Arkans have utlised ever since they sterlised themselves in the very distant past, rendering themselves unable to reproduce in the “normal” way and forcing themselves to find a new way that involved a very unpredictable and certainly dangerous process that could damage the child or the parents themselves and/or their ability to properly use PSI if the process wasn’t handled carefully enough. Though he has his disability under control, it still causes him discomfort and he cannot help but feel a little bit of distate for the foolish mistake his ancestors made in the past, a distate he shares for anyone who makes similarly callous mistakes in the present that could cost Arkan society a great deal.
42. What does your character want most? What do they need really badly, compulsively? What are they willing to do, to sacrifice, to obtain?
Larzen, more than anything, is for the Homeworld upon which he has lived and worked and the people on it to be safe. He knows himself how unrealistic a goal and want in life this is, there will always be something to threaten the world’s safety, but the way he sees it, so long as he is there to fight for it, he’s doing his duty and constantly moving one step closer to achieving his goal, no matter how far away.
In this sense, he’s willing to go to a surprising amount of effort to accomplish this. On the surface he’s a political figure who manages the official security corps on the streets of the artificial planet, and who from time to time conducts official investigations into any particularly noteable problems or disasters present in the world. He otherwise manages smaller investigations from afar.
On a deeper level however, Larzen has been known by those close to him- some loyal, some not- to hire more private, reliable and trustworthy security groups, mercenaries and even assassins to get done what he believes needs to be done, but what would otherwise be blocked by official or political process. He keeps this very much on the down low but it’s how he’s accomplished most of his peacekeeping ventures- the world at large is left to guess wildly as to how seemingly unsolveable crimes have been suddenly solved out of the blue, often without any information concerning third parties Larzen brought into the fray. He has a few personal agents he trusts above all else, a small- very small- elite circle of operatives who he trusts with the most important and potentially dangerous assigments to bring justice as needed to the Homeworld. These operatives report directly to him and no-one else, apprearing to the outside world as mere advisors or lawyers constantly trailing him around.
Though this appears to be the extentof how far he will go for justice, there are rumours that he can and has gone further, as rumours of vigilantism surrounding Larzen are still murmured in suspicion by the other higher up authorities of Homeworld....
48. How are your character’s gestures? Vigorous? Weak? Controlled? Compulsive? Energetic? Sluggish?
Larzen carries himself with an undeniable sense of confidence and charm even at the worst of times, his gestures therefore are more often than not limited and very controlled in their execution. He’s never quick or sudden with his movements unless he is exceptionally agitated (in which case he gets unusually aggressive), but the majority of the time he comes across as almost leisurely and lazy with his mannerisms and bodily movements. He isn’t terribly active with his hands when he speaks as some others might do, preferring to keep his hands at his sides or behind his back, never bringing them out except to gesture to a particular person, place or object of interest.
Not much else to say here, really, he’s generally very relaxed with himself and how he physically expresses himself.
50. What are the prevailing facial expressions? Sour? Cheerful? Dominating?
Larzen’s facial expressions usually default to a bright one with eyes wide open, fairly expressive, even smirking a little. He’s openly emotive and it’s something his more conservative opponents and allies both dislike about him, though he isn’t vibrant per se. It’s just generally very easy to tell what’s going on in his mind unless he doesn’t want you to know...in which case he has a decent poker face, but and even better misleading one, smiling the smallest bit in a convincing manner when he might inwardly be quite angered by someone, for example. His prevailing expressions aren’t neutral but they’re not exuberant either- just gentle but easy to tell indicators of how he’s feeling, or of what he’s thinking.

Litigation Funding Is Right Here To Remain
 About : Ben Delanghe
Now, every personal injury attorney has become aware of "litigation financing" - the non-recourse sale of a portion of a complainant's future negotiation earnings in exchange for cash money today. In recent times, the accessibility and use litigation funding has actually proliferated and most attorneys currently acknowledge the demand for complainant financial backing. A 2001 study by Attorneys Weekly asked an easy question: Should Lawsuits Funding Be Allowed? Of the 1,876 ballots cast, 82.5% reacted of course.
Tumblr media
Nevertheless, similar to the objection faced by test lawyers over backup costs, litigation financing business must respond to the exact same disparagements. Defenders of the status seek to brand litigation financing as profiteering by rascals taking advantage of the down trodden. They trot out such false trails as champerty, usury and far flung theories of intrinsic disputes to show how vexatious the technique truly is. Noise familiar?
In spite of the criticism, we know the following: complainants love it; defendants hate it; it is right here to remain!
Equal Protection Calls For Equal Accessibility
The lynchpin for every benefit considered by our founding fathers and also codified in our constitution rests in one easy concept-- equivalent protection under the legislation.
Given that 1786 when pamphleteer Benjamin Austin called it "a destructive practice", contingent lawful costs have actually been slammed non-stop. Yet today, it is one of the most widely made use of cost arrangement in the USA. Why? Straightforward-- since it functions! The contingent charge system aids to achieve the goal of equal protection by promoting accessibility.
It is axiomatic that there can be no equal security when access to the court system is expensive by a significant section of the population. The entire raison d'etre for backup costs stocks this fundamental access issue. So convincing is this factor that, for many years, courts, have actually methodically removed virtually every barrier preventing access to the court system. From backup fees to attorney advertising to champerty, laws avoiding access, in even one of the most indirect ways, have actually bitten the dust.
Perhaps Judge Michael A. Musmanno stated it finest:
" If it were except contingent charges, indigent victims of tortious mishaps would certainly be subject to the unchecked, self-willed partisanship of their tortfeasors. The individual who has, without mistake on his component, been injured and also that, due to his injury, is unable to work, and also has a huge household to support, and also has no money to engage a lawyer, would certainly be at the mercy of the person who disabled him because, remaining in a superior financial placement, the harming individual could force on his victim, seriously seeking cash to keep the candle of life burning in himself and his dependent ones, an entirely unconscionably meager amount in settlement, or even reject to pay him anything at all. Any society, as well as specifically a democratic one, worthwhile of respect in the spectrum of human being, need to never ever endure such a victimization of the weak by the mighty." Richette v. Solomon, 187 A. 2d 910, 919 (Pa. 1963).
However, managing an attorney is just one part of a complainant's obstacle. A plaintiff must likewise have the capacity to maintain themselves during the pendancy of their action. Nevertheless, what good is preserving an attorney, if you can not pay for the standard necessities of life? How are economically stressed plaintiffs to maintain themselves during the pendancy of their litigation which may be the source of their economic condition in the first place
Litigation Funding
One response is litigation financing. Being able to stay the course is a prerequisite to fair treatment as well as this basic transaction can aid level the playing field with a well-off opponent. This truth was acknowledged by the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court in the 1997 situation of Saladini v. Righellis, (426 Mass. 231, 234) when it kept in mind:
" We have long abandoned the sight that litigation is suspicious, and also have actually acknowledged that contracts to buy an interest in an activity may real foster resolution of a conflict."
Various other superior courts seem to be encouraged by the Massachusetts court including the High court of South Carolina which relied heavily on Saladini when it eliminated champerty in Osprey, Inc. v. Cabana Limited Collaboration, 532 S.E. 2d 269 (S.C. 2000).
In justness it must be noted that the High court of Ohio held a various view in Rancman v. Interim Settlement Funding Corp. 99 Ohio St. 3d 121, 2003-Ohio-2721. Nevertheless, Ohio is in the minority and also the doctrine of champerty may eventually satisfy its last just death penalty at the US Supreme Court when the applicability of the 14th Amendment is determined. (Bennett v NCAAP 370 S.W. 2nd 79 82 (Ark 1963)).
What are the real issues?
In Addition To 15th Century English Legislation, what are the real issues today? The assumption exists is absolutely nothing in it for lawyers, a minimum of not instantly or straight. Providing details to the financing business, administering the execution of the contract as well as observing the lien are all an annoyance for complainant's advice. However, regardless of this, an increasing number of PI attorneys are building relationships with financing companies due to the fact that their clients require it, and they have actually discovered that reputable seasoned business can show to be an invaluable resource.
Price.
The most typical criticism is the cost.
The typical quantity paid for bodily injury insurance policy claims suffered in automobile crashes is little - less than $10,000. Hence, it ought to not be surprising that the average litigation funding agreement is also little. Many contracts are for $1,000 to $5,000. Consumer financial products have reasonably fixed transaction costs suggesting that smaller sized offers are virtually as pricey as larger ones. It adheres to that, because of their tiny size, the average costs on lawsuits funding contracts will unavoidably be high.
That having been claimed, the very development of business will solve the issue of price. The marketplace will certainly set rates equally as it makes with contingent lawful charges. As soon as the there is enough experience for the true dangers of these transactions to be commonly understood, capitalists will certainly value the risk to an equivalent level. Currently, costs have actually dropped substantially. Just a couple of years ago it was not uncommon to find fees of 15% per month worsened-- with no cap! This is now rare.
There are three fundamental fee approaches made use of by a lot of financing business:.
 1. Month-to-month interest or fees. These can vary 3% to as high as 15% each month without any cap.
2. A percent of the recuperation.
3. Apartment charges that are capped and also might or may not have a discount for early payment.
( Attorneys must be cautious of large costs at shutting that offer to increase real cost considerably).
A legitimate issue is that, with regular monthly costs climbing without any cap, customers may be tempted to take a negotiation simply to stop the fee increases. This not only injures the customer's opportunities of a fair recovery yet additionally restricts the lawyer's fees. The good news is, topped charges are constantly offered out there.
While the industry place will remain to drive price levels towards stability, it needs to be soothing for those without faith in market forces to remember that, in the last analysis, the court has the last word and also can allot violent charges. Schlesinger v Teitelbaum, 475 F2nd 137, 141 (3rd Cir), cert. rejected, 414 U.S. 1111 (1973 ).
On this problem Saladini is significantly on factor:.
" This indicates that if an agreement to finance a suit is challenged, we will think about whether the fees billed are excessive or whether any type of healing by a prevailing celebration is vitiated because of some impermissible overreaching by the sponsor.".
Is it truly a finance in camouflage?
Litigation financing agreements are nearly globally non-recourse. The interpretation of a car loan is blackletter law. If any type of part of the principal or rate of interest is contingent on an occasion that is "more than a mere colorable threat", the agreement is not a loan. A difficulty because the requisite degree of threat is absent would need to be adjudicated case by situation, each situation being distinct. Remember that the funding company is subordinate to lawyer's costs and also expenses, statutory liens as well as previous liens. The risk for an attorney is significantly much better than for the financing company that is last in line. Many regulatory authorities from attorneys general to banking commissioners have actually examined the practice and taken no action. It appears clear that non-recourse methods non-recourse which litigation funding is a danger.
Severe Agreements.
A 2nd widely had problem is making use of contracts with oppressive stipulations. While the enforceability of such clauses is suspicious at best, they still offer an awesome problem worth. Regular undesirable conditions are:.
 - Prior consent of funding business called for to change lawyers.
- High sold off problems.
- Waiver of all defenses.
- Disclosure of non-discoverable info.
Most respectable business, including CapTran ® have actually modified their agreements to resolve these problems.
Principles
George Kuhlman, principles advice for the American Bar Association, was quoted in Lawyers Weekly UNITED STATES as stating: "The trouble just can be found in when legal representatives are getting an interest in the subject of the litigation, however anyone can get a piece of somebody's judgment. I do not see any type of attorney involvement so I do not see any trouble. This is a 3rd party becoming involved; making certain individuals can endure their judgments.".
With one exception, all Principles Opinions of which we understand locate lawsuits financing ethical. Michigan finds contracts with certain provisions to be impermissible.
State Bar of Michigan Ethics Board Opinion RI-321, June 29, 2000.
" 1. The best control of the litigation may be transferred to the equity capital firm as a result of the reality that the attorney is completely assigned to the situation;.
2. The original legal representative can not be terminated without the equity capital company's permission in light of the reality that as needed of the equity capital firm all documents and also things should be demanded by that group; as well as.
 3. Privileged materials might be disclosed.".
We need to likewise keep in mind that some states require particular details procedural problems to be observed.
Where do we go from here?
As experience expands, capital will go into business in ever raising quantities, making it fairly commonplace while competitors will most certainly mold the item, as well as deal with most, otherwise all, of the problems.
Several wise lawyers understand that litigation funding is not going away anytime quickly as well as they are welcoming it and also discovering how ideal to use it. They are creating relationships with funding companies and using their services to satisfy the demands of their clients. In doing so, they get the added benefit of bargaining for a client that is no more under the scary and destabilizing result of financial pressure.

Brainstorming Assignment
To preface the actual content of the assignment, all of this is entirely fictional, particularly the “testimony” surrounding my hypothetical grandmother. That being said:
Research Report: The questions surrounding AI in music.
Among my three ideas was a proposal for a user-level artificial intelligence trained on musical data that can be used as a personal musical assistant for composers and students alike. Beyond the raw concept, an endless list of questions exist that I will attempt to document and try answering here.
What do you mean by “AI?”: Artificial intelligence is the product of exhaustive algorithms iterated thousands of times over the same set of data. For this particular use case, the AI will use a machine-learning algorithm to analyze pre-existing musical compositions.
What does a musical dataset look like? : Any number of things, from a collection of sound files to a spreadsheet of text data breaking down song structure, harmonic progression, song length, and the less tangible “feelings” songs inherently possess. It could take the form of a collection of classical music from the most esteemed dead whites who compose the music canon, or use any data from any culture or background to attempt to understand what makes music music.
Is this not just an automatic composer? : …yes and no. After being trained specifically to recognize, critique, and suggest musical content, the AI will absolutely possess the capabilities to compose its own pieces of music. That, however, is not the goal of the project: the AI is meant to act as a guiding hand for those unable to afford formal music education and a drawing board for professional composers to best sonify their endless compositional ideas.
How much is it? : For a subscription fee of a few dollars, you get the AI pre-trained in one genre of existing music (additional genres accrue additional costs). Alternatively, the AI itself is a free download that’s compatible with user-made libraries and datasets, as well as user-handled training. If you have a big enough computer, you can train the AI however you want to.
Why would I want this? : You’re interested in learning how to play guitar but can’t afford an in-person tutor on top of the cost of the guitar itself. You’re a composer struggling with writers block in need of a creative jumping-off point. You’re a creative coder interested in using the AI to generate autonomous music to your parameters with only a few code tweaks. You’re a parent who wants a cheap means to which your child can learn an extremely creative hobby. The use cases are nearly endless and its low cost allows for accessibility beyond the limited spectrum of professional musicians.
What would it look like? : The finished product will take the form of a downloadable software able to run on any modern computer, with a Lite version tailored around use on mobile phones. A physical prototype emphasizing portability is in the works.
 Project Story: Companionship for end-of-life.
My grandmother, towards the end of her life, suffered from dementia. Dementia is more than forgetting your loved-ones’ names – it’s forgetting how to eat, bathe, breathe, forgetting who and where you are and losing higher functioning entirely. Dementia is an extremely expensive condition that, even with the best care, remains fatal.
My family knew that my grandmother’s dementia had come to a tipping point when she needed 24/7 supervision. My parents both worked exhausting jobs and I was too young to be able to fully support them, so the only option we were left with was hiring personal aids to constantly monitor and take care of her. We struggled for months to pay the bills, keep the aids hired, and keep my grandmother safe and healthy.
After a few months, we couldn’t afford to keep the nurses and we moved my grandmother in with us. Life was though: we had to take turns staying home to be sure my grandmother would eat or in case any emergencies were to happen. When something went wrong, like a short tumble down some steps, it always ended in a trip to the emergency room. Our bills piled up and soon we struggled to keep the lights on.
That’s when we discovered Columbia Automated Care, a system made in tandem with the country’s leading physicians to provide constant care at an affordable price. All it took was a small camera to bring our lives back to normal and provide the constant care my grandmother desperately needed. With a lump sum of a few hundred dollars for installation, CAC is covered by most health insurances and comes with cost-effective options to maximize care for the elderly. My family rests assured knowing my grandmother’s vitals are being monitored by the top doctors in the country, equipped to shuttle her to the nearest hospital at a moment’s notice should the need arise. Moreover, visits from on-plan doctors are partially covered by insurance and cost us about the same the bi-weekly check-ins we would bring my grandmother two on a regular basis.
We can finally afford to return to normalcy and be assured that our most treasured relative is in good hands with CAC.

Listen to the podcast or enjoy the video podcast on Vimeo. Well, I, one of the stats I mentioned earlier in the program was that.
And the data continue about a brain injury and how it affects Jeffrey Neinstein the lives of Canadians and Torontonians of course. So we have actually got an excellent occasion turning up. We're going to inform you about, you can support individuals with brain injuries, uh, the committee member from BIST, Obeya, Mixon and mango Ruth Fernandez, and the chair of best, a charity event.
Good to have you both here. Thanks for having us. Best is brain injury society of Toronto near the other one is the Ontario brain injury association. Exactly what is best. Well, this is a, the local chapter of the Ontario brain injury association. So, uh, there were a number of chapters, 26 chapters all throughout Ontario and the trial chapter.
And help them get integrated back into the community after they have actually received a head injury. And we are a, that was just one statistic I offered. The numbers on. Brain injuries are stunning, right? 18,000 Ontarians were, uh, will suffer a brain injury. Which means, you understand, in one year, every hour six Canadians are afflicted with a brain injury.
Um, it occurs too. You understand, people that we understand, one in 10 individuals that you understand will suffer a brain injury this year. So it's quite, it's a big, big problem in our society and for kids especially, it's so crucial that they use a helmet. We understand when they're practicing sports and that they're taking all preventative measures to be safe.
And regrettably, this is an. They just been started in the last 10 15 years. Um, and it's probably shocked when you hear the numbers and the absence of details people have about head injuries considering all the other fantastic fundraising events that we, uh, see throughout Ontario. And when you see the varieties of head injuries, it's shocking that there is not much http://www.bbc.co.uk/search?q=ontario life and activities awareness about this disease.
I discover it frequently does. It typically does. You understand, typically clients will present with interaction, um, disabilities. And you know, it's constantly is not always extremely clear if you have a brain injury, so you break an arm, it's, it's clear to see precisely what somebody may be stumbling with their words.
Yeah. You do not often select up on that unless you understand the person for a truly very long time. And you sort of need to look out for state of mind swings and you understand, perhaps they're not interacting correctly and things that you didn't trouble them in the past. Sort of irritating to them now.
And what about kids? If your kid falls off the bike, they brush themselves off, the weeping stops. You think everything's fine, what should we be keeping an eye out for? So difficult to identify brain injuries, specifically in children since they're unable to articulate what they're feeling. Uh, so word, finding issues with sleeping, uh, issues with, um, being able to eat an appetite.
Cause the, the downside is, uh. Is big. And people with brain injuries, it typically takes a, within the very first year is the most productive in getting rehab. So if you don't recognize this within the very first year, you're losing out an ability for your brain, which is a muscle to start restoring itself.

Actually. So the brain can re re regenerating a few of those hurt locations. Absolutely. Definitely. You know, I was a, I was simply at a talk with dr tatter and he says, immediately if you know your kid has had a concussion or he's hit his head, we absolutely know for sure as the fact that it is a brain injury.

I don't do the things I want to do, and I'm actually sorry about the inconvenience. (A failure of doing does not mean a failure of wanting to)
The problem of directing one's attention, when having attention-regulation problems such as ADHD, isn't limited to the boring things in life, as many people seem to think.
In fact, it's almost harder directing attention when it comes to things I want to do but which isn't currently where my attention happens to be directed at the moment. I will at times get stuck sorting laundry almost obsessively when I had planned on doing something I was looking forward to, such as answering a friend's message, write or just sit down and read fanfic. I would rather do those things than do the laundry, really, but unfortunately, my brain seems to be stuck on the laundry, and I can't get it to switch into a writing mode, or to focus enough to abandon what it's doing, or the thought of doing something else. Which is why paying bills is sometimes easier than watching a TV show or I'll sometimes spend half a day researching wallpaper when I really wanted to colour my hair or chat with a friend. Often, these problems will get worse when I've spent a lot of time directing my focus earlier that day/week. It's a limited resource, the ability to direct one's focus. I might still have focus left when I run out of ability to direct it, and that frequently leads to some rather interesting activities that I had no intention of doing that day, but that I now suddenly perform with quite a bit of focus, unable to redirect it something else I want to do. It's a constant source of frustration for both me and the people around me. Because I might say I want to do something with a friend, and then end up writing fic instead, or I'll say I'll write fic and end up sketching out a new work project instead. And while I, as a person, is someone who loves to finish things, to do things methodically, empirically and thoroughly, that's not at all how I act outside of work, because I can't. I, as a person, is loyal, want to do good and likes order in the chaos. But like my URL implies, I mostly end up with just chaos, and I have had to learn to try to embrace it, hence the 'sincerely chaos'. Because it might not be in line with my long-term goals or who I want to be, and it might actually disable me from doing what I really want to do in life, but it is what I've got to work with.
Frequently, this seems very nonchalant. I might promise to do something for a friend, something that I will enjoy doing, nonetheless, and end up... doing something completely different. And it's not like I spend the time I was supposed to do the thing in bed, resting, or even doing something useful that needs to be done. Instead, I might repaint furniture or hang out with friends or binge watch a show, so I can't honestly say that it was due to more important things or lack of time I failed to do the thing for three weeks. There's no excuse, really. Not one that makes sense.
Because how do you explain that doing what you say you enjoy sometimes costs too much energy when you apparently have the energy to write five ficlets, go to a social event, try out five new crafts and work two extra shifts during the same time? How do you explain that in terms of self-regulation of attention, those things might be almost free of charge, because they happened because of poor impulse control or because that's where your focus just happened to fall or because the were Novel and therefore act like drugs on your brain?
You can't, not really, and so guilt begins to enter the equation. Guilt over acting like shit by not answering people, over not doing what you promised and want to do. And when guilt enters the equation, the price in terms of self-regulation of attention goes up like crazy. Because now it's not just failing to do so, now it's also aversion of thinking about something that makes you feel guilty. The chances of actually doing what you want to do are now minimal. The chances of you cleaning every surface of your home seems very good in comparison. It's like when you have a test coming up, and suddenly your home is spotless. Except this is how it always is. And you can't really explain that. You don't want to apologise to someone by telling them that the thing you said you wanted to do for them is now causing you extensive guilt. And you don't tell someone that the reason you didn't reply is because you find it easier to work five extra hours. It's just not... good.
So what does this behavior say about my intentions, my desire to do the thing or my feelings about you?
Not a thing.
It only says something about my crappy reward-system, my lack of ability to direct my focus and my inability to resist novelty when presented with it. And how hyperfocusing is basically free, but doing something else might cost energy you've already spent.
Do I realise that this makes no sense to anyone not living with a similar brain? Yes, I do. And yet. This is my attempt to say I'm sorry. And that I care. And that I am aware of this problem, and that this is actually the main reason for me never actively seeking out new friendships. Because I am not very good at keeping in touch or doing what I said I would, and that's hurtful, I know. If I'm in contact with you and do things with you, that's probably a result of poor impulse control and you being too interesting not to hang out with. Otherwise I wouldn't subject you to any of it. I don't like hurting people. I prefer to avoid it, and often, I plan on doing so. But as I've just discussed, things rarely go according to my plans. When something novel or interesting appears I often forget my good intentions. What that does to my self-esteem we shall not discuss.
And so I'm sorry. I have a nervous system that is constantly hijacking my attention, allowing be only limited access to it. And that sucks, because you do not deserve someone failing to show you that they care and that you are important. You deserve so much more.
And in writing this, I've spent the time I had planned actually starting one of those things that I promised to do, and instead of doing so, I've written two far too long, navel-gazing posts about attention while being on a train, listening to the same three songs over and over again, and my guilt over not doing the (interesting) thing has increased again.
So if anyone wonders if this is a choice or mere laziness; no. It's inefficient, it is in opposition of my long-term goals and it’s stressful and devastating for my self-esteem.
A failure to direct is not a failure in wanting to.

Kio for the character meme!
:eyes:
01. NAME: kioxxe! the ‘e’ adds a slight sound at the end but a lot of people leave it off at random which is fine too. it’s pronounced “key” like house keys + “ox” like the animal + a short “eh”, but key-ox is fine too02. NICKNAME(S): kio! key-oh... most people just call them kio 99% of the time and they generally prefer this03. GENDER: dfab trans nonbinary! no specific nb gender i.e. not specifically agender or genderfluid or w/e, they just plain identify as nonbinary. they officially use they/them and won’t correct people using he/him but really prefers people catch themselves and use they/them instead04. SEXUALITY: gay, likes boys and masc-presenting nonbinary people. is very selective with relationships though and historically hasn’t really bothered with them05. BEST FRIEND: gunner is probably their best friend..! but they have quite a few colleagues and acquaintances they get along really well with, too. there’s a good egg in dynamics who helps make special doctor’s equipment for them to help accommodate their eyesight issues06. RELATIONSHIP STATUS: taken!! they’ve technically been in a relationship for a super long time (like. 100+ years) but it was undeclared or more ‘implied’ for a long time. they are starting to think about marriage contracts...07: CRUSH/SIGNIFICANT OTHER: their lovely boyfriend gunner :’) who is a bit more shy and private about relationships than they are08. LEAST FAVOURITE PERSON: it takes a lot to get kio to truly hate someone, but they don’t harbor any sort of mercy for people who bring nothing but destruction and venom into the world. kio will save anyone they feel is a redeemable person.. but would consider it an act of mercy to take an irredeemable person out of the world so that they could not keep harming others09. FAVOURITE FOOD: anything sugary!! especially hard candies10. FAVOURITE PLACE: as someone who’s been constantly drifting, is nearing 180 years old, has lost a lot, and as a necromancer, kio tries to not develop earthly ties to anything as they’re vividly aware how much Mortality everything has, even places. but they still hold a great fondness for rata novus and feel at home in the laboratory slash living space they’ve carved out in it’s ruins, in the same space they used to live in before it started crumbling11. VALUED ATTRIBUTES: kio likes people who know what they’re doing and can make decisions on the fly, and have a good sense of empathy. since kio themself makes a lot of huge choices in the spur of the moment when dealing with medical crises, they need allies who can do the same when helping them out. if you’re hesitant when interacting with kio when they’re on the job, you’ll get on their nastier authoritative side real quick because they won’t stand for you bumbling around when it might cost them a patient’s life. but they’ll be very willing to work with you and will admire you if you operate on the same level as them12. DREAMS: they don’t have sensical dreams (they’re kinda foggy) but they fantasize about reaching the heights of medical technology where they can save someone from death even if the person’s lost nearly all their organs or been blown to bits, without having to turn them into a pseudo-sentient necrominion that’ll just fall apart again...13. NIGHTMARES: has flashback esque nightmares about situations where they failed to save someone, ESPECIALLY out of lack of knowledge or not predicting things. they’ll find themselves trapped back in that situation and be this sort of Aware soul stuck in their body but be unable to move the body the way they want and thus have to watch the whole disaster scene happen all over again,, they also have nightmares about how they had to leave so many injured-but-saveable people behind when they fled rata novus (they logically know that they need to put themself first as they cant help anyone if they’re dead. but that’s hard for them to cope with)14. A SECRET: there have been times where, in rata novus in particular, they were called in to help operate on/treat someone who was an extremely nasty higher up that they felt would be better off having left this world, so they purposefully botched some of the operation/treatment and very meticulously framed it as an accident or the hand of fate to the point that the assistant nurses weren’t suspicious of it. they have a slight martyr complex and don’t mind taking the blame for this if needed and they also don’t feel guilt over this. they’re extremely careful with this behavior as they truly loathe seeing innocent or redeemable people suffer, but they have an incredibly unique view on the idea of natural selection that justifies this for them-- they feel that in an advanced society with medical technology like the asura have, there is no justifiable excuse to say that someone should be left behind or die due to physical/mental injury or disability. they feel that someone who is devoid of morals and who does nothing but cause harm in life and could never be shaken from that path is someone who has truly ‘failed’ life and deserves whatever sort of karma the universe throws back at them. when they allow that person to die they do not feel they are the active catalyst in causing them to die but rather they have allowed the hand of fate to move through them and cause that death to happen as a natural, karmic event
(other than that though, they do not view injuries or disability as karma or destiny, by the way)15. BEST DAY: one with where they have at least a minor breakthrough with their research16. WORST DAY: one where someone dies in their hands17. FAVOURITE OUTFIT: the middle outfit from this image18. WEAPON OF CHOICE: staff! but they use it as a catalyst for channeling surges of energy, including channeling life force towards others, rather than laying marks like the ingame weapon does. they’ve basically been scourge-ing since scourge became a thing. they alternatively use a dagger + focus19. ROLE IN RPG: [TANK/DPS/HEALER/HEALTANK/ET CETRA] a healer class thats a really good healer but can turn into a real fuckin scary condi dps class if you gear and trait it just right20. FIRST THOUGHT IN THE MORNING: they dont really have any thoughts in the morning they just kind of instantly rip themself from bed and hop to it like “ok im awake now”

i should also probably let you guys know:
work issued a two-week ultimatum for me to “””””improve”””” (on things they won’t even give me SPECIFICS for?), or I’l losing my job.
So all I asked or is a thorough, detailed checklist of things I have to “improve on”, and complete during my shifts, because to my knowledge, I am doing everything I was trained to do.
tl;dr after about three weeks of conversations, me asking managers about priorities vs. time management, I figured out that they want me to randomly “notice” OTHER things to do, which doesn’t happen when you’re a non-visual person with ADD, especially when I’m very concerned with keeping my area clean, and my skillset, the way my brain works, is very specialized. this is why I’m good at anatomy, chemistry, and ecology, but not very great at small talk, unless I have an internal dichotomous script (”if they say this, I’ll say that. But if they say the opposite, here’s how I respond.”)
Point is, they’re asking me to do something I am physically unable to do.
Ask my stepmother-- she’s been yelling at me for this stuff all my life. Calling me names over it. ABUSING me for it. So that’s a little terrifying to the part of me with PTSD as well as the part that doesn’t want to lose her fucking job over this.
And I don’t know if this will even work...
So they gave me a form, I took it to my psychiatrist and my councilor, and I had them sign it yesterday, and also got a note from the psychiatrist on how my ADD is debilitating and a freaking CHECKLIST will help me do my job.
(How hard is it to make a checklist? How is that something I needed a form and a doctor’s note for??? PetSmart and Chipotle had checklists that expanded on their corporate checklists by CHOICE, long BEFORE I came into the picture. I told them this, I told them it works miracles on me, and the Target people STILL don’t want to make me one.)
The Americans with Disabilities Act REQUIRES employers to make “Reasonable Accomodations” for employees with disabilities.
Hohboy, is ADD fucking debilitating.
But making a freaking CHECKLIST for me? How is that an unreasonable accommodation.
I make them every week.
It takes me about two hours, because I have to re-run things constantly, to make sure I didn’t forget anything... even just to build my grocery list......
...but somebody who’s able to sit there and, in focus and tangent-free thought, tick things off on their fingers? This list would take, maybe a half hour. Including the time for lamination. There’s one right in that office. And we already have dry erase markers in my department (...even though we have no dry erase board there???)....
I’m not asking for that much time, effort, or resources. It is a VERY Reasonable request for Accommodation.
So, they are at the point where they’re being a little ridiculous about not wanting to put any liiiittle Extra effort into... helping an employee improve? (Isn’t that a manager’s entire JOB?)
...I mean... when I brought my concerns to another manager, she didn’t even flinch and basically said, ask the department lead for a thorough list when she gets back from vacation. SHE didn’t need a note to justify it.... but whatever.
I’m at the point of looking for another, better-managed job. Problem is: not even the specialized, local veterinary jobs are paying $10.50/hour. (Minimum wage here is about $8.50. And most secretarial and assistant jobs, without the vet tech registration/certification, are only offering $9/hour.)
....sooooooooo I don’t really want to lose this job. I’m kinda liking the cushy pay and immense relief of financial anxiety, and ability to buy my own food without cutting into rent costs.
(I’ll still be applying for food stamps, because food DOES cut into costs for, say, a new pair of shoes to replace my work shoes that are starting to, literally, fall apart... but you only notice if you look straight at them. That isn’t as essential as rent.)
...and I can’t apply for medicaid and food stamps because the family won’t, you know, actually SIGN a paper stating that I’m paying them rent.... -_-
...but in the meantime: $10.50 is satisfying my immediate needs, until I can get out of school and ask for higher pay....
I don’t want to give up just because the immediate managers are being dicks about my ADD, honestly. I was over the MOON when I was hired by Target, and I told every single manager this. I am GOING to fight for it, even if I have to call
...I’m still kind of considering applying for disability........ but I don’t think I’ve been working for 5 years solid, juuust yet. And you need 10 credits, one for every 6 months, of being in the working world. And all I have on my side is a diagnosis from age 7, I need to kind of get my medical providers more aware of my issues and how they limit me before I can ask for a thorough note and ask them to fill out extensive paperwork regarding my disability to perform basic tasks...
...it’s so ridiculous and frustrating that I can name every part of a neuron, list off hormones and neurotransmitters, tell you the difference, and tell you what most of them do, from what I read ONCE last night. But I can’t accomplish a simple task like “notice the pizza sauce on the counter right in front of you and notice that you have to clean it up”.
Because my attention is internally controlled, not externally controlled.
Because I have ADD.
And this makes me immensely driven to accomplish tasks I know I need to accomplish.
But this also makes it damn-near impossible to seek new tasks that I’m not already aware of.
An internal locust of control grants me immense powers of responsibility, drive, motivation, and desire to do things for the sake of getting them done.
But everyone else around me seems to focus with an external locust, where their environment guides them and motivates them. Where they do things by seeing that it needs done. Usually without ADD getting in the way.
And this means they simply can’t actually comprehend my struggles. How it limits me... how I need specific, individual direction if tehy want me to suceed.
I just need help.
And I think that’s the most frustrating thing; I genuinely did think I was being a phenomenal employee. I got accolades from several superiors, at least three customers individually told me they love it when I serve them because I’m “very polite”, or “make good recommendations”, or “this is my new favorite drink”. And I don’t even LIKE people, I’m just very good at manipulating them into thinking I’m ~happy~ with my facial muscles and vocal tone.
The managers are willing to criticize, but not address the root causes of my supposed shortcomings.
And even with my internal locust of control, I know there are forces I cannot control. Like short-sightedness. And narrow-mindedness. And managers not understanding their duties and required accommodations listed under federal LAW.
And that sucks, because there’s so much more I could give, if only they’d open that door and let me see what it is I need, so I can give it. Because obviously, I can’t open it myself. I can’t “just look around and see”. I can’t. I never will. Not until they teach me what to look for.
(And is that ever too much to ask? “What do I need to SEEK? I can’t just notice things; I need to SEEK them. I need to know what I’m looking for, and when to look for it.” Why are these questions they can’t answer?)

In the early childhood classroom, as with all other classrooms, students enter with differing abilities.  Whereas some students enter who are gifted, others enter who are average learners, while others enter who are behind academically, socially, and emotionally.  Because of this, it is important that early childhood educators modify instruction to meet the needs of all students.  This may be done by using assistive technology in the classroom to support students who need extra help learning the content.
Two types of assistive technology
After much research, I decided upon the following assistive technology:
1.     alternative mouse, and
2.     speech recognition technology.
According to the National Council for Special Education (n.d.) when choosing a form of assistive technology, it is important to consider the student who will be using the product.  With this in mind, I chose the two aforementioned types of assistive technologies with students I had in the past.
I chose to use alternative mice as an assistive technology because of a student I taught two years ago.  This student had Cerebral Palsy and struggled with his fine motor skills.  He had not yet learned how to write simply because he was unable to form the letters.  He also could not use a regular mouse, yet he understood how to use the technology on the computer.  When he would need to use the computer, either another student, a co-teacher or myself would have to sit with him and click the mouse.  As a regular education teacher, I never knew such technologies were available to students.  According to Spectronics (2019) there are several different types of mice to assistant disabled students who struggle with regular mice.  Some of those different types of mice are track balls, joysticks, head tracking devices and touchpad mice.  I would have chosen a touchpad mouse for my student.  He was not able to use his fingers to assist with fine motor skills.  For example, he could not button his pants, open his milk, and do many other tasks that would require the use of all fingers, but he could pull up his pants and even zip his book bag simply because he learned how to do them with his thumb and hand.  He could also use an iPad and touchscreen phone with ease.  Therefore, he would be able to use a touchpad mouse during instruction.  This assistive technology could be used for both development and content knowledge. He could have used it to help develop his fine motor skills.  He saw an occupational therapist several times a week who helped him work on his fine motor skills, but they were still a challenge for him.  In terms of content knowledge, he would have been able to complete the assignments as his peers as he could use the mouse to answer questions on the computer.  He could have used it to work math problems, draw, and even write.  The touchpad mouse could be used for almost any aged student who does not have full control of their fine motor skills.  This mouse will support learning as students and teachers will not need to be constantly at this student’s side to assist them in their coursework.  They would be able to assist other students, and even assist this student in extension as time would not be needed for basic work
I chose speech recognition technology with a student I taught this past year in mind. This student has a severe learning disability and inadequate writing skills.  One of his hands is completely paralyzed while the other hand has limited mobility.  According to the National Center for Technology Innovation (2017) “Speech-to-text has been used to help struggling writers boost their writing production and to provide alternate access to a computer for individuals with physical impairments” (fourth paragraph).  Speech recognition technology would be beneficial in terms of development and content knowledge. It would help this particular student to develop a learning path that is conducive to success.  This student spent so much time on trying to actually write the information that he never really understood the content.  With this program, he would be able to spend more time on the actual mastery of content rather than on trying to write.  Once spoken, the information is processed by the computer.  This particular student was rather intelligent even though he had a severe learning disability.  This program would allow him the opportunity to produce work that would show educators how much he has learned.  This assistive technology is conducive to any age group needing such assistance.  It supports learning by allowing the student the opportunity to focus on the content and processing it and not on the task of writing the information.
Culturally responsive
Both the touchpad mouse and speech recognition program are culturally responsive.  The mouse is culturally responsive because it allows the student to touch objects to answer questions.  The culture of the student does not affect whether or not they can use the mouse.  The speech recognition technology is culturally responsive because it can be used in different languages and translated to languages as needed.  This is great for English Lanugage Learners (ELL) as they can learn in both their native language and English.  I could determine the effectiveness of these assessments by the quality of work the students produce.  I would also examine the student.  Are they happy?  Are they content?  Are they no longer stressed about school?  By answering these questions, I would know how effective the assessments and assistive technology is.
Issues with the technology
The touchpad mouse might pose an issue if the student is unable to properly work the mouse and touch the intended items. The speech recognition technology would probably be the most problematic for several reasons.  If the student has a speech impediment, it may not produce the correct words.  Secondly, as a southerner, we tend to have a southern drawl.  This is common for almost all children I teach.  Whereas, I can manipulate my voice and drawl to where I can be understood by such devices, I do not see young children being able to do so.  This would pose an issue when they are trying to use the speech recording program.  The cost of such items may also be problematic for school systems if funds are not available for such programs.
Conclusion
As an early childhood educator, it is up to me to make sure all of my students learn.  However, not all students learn at the same pace, same style, and same capacity as others.  Using assistive technology in the classroom is a great way for educators to be able to enhance the learning paths of those students who may need some support. Therefore, it is important for early childhood educators to be aware that not only can they enhance classroom learning from modifications, but simple technology can go a long way to help students in need.
