CHARACTER FLAW TAG GAME
I found this and thought it might be fun. Unfortunately, I don't know who started/made it. But anyway, all you have to do is bold whatever "flaws" apply to your para(s)!

What’s your favorite touhou characters and music? Also how did u got into touhou in the first place?
Heca lore dump incoming!
My big bro sometime in the distant past, when I was like 6 or 7, downloaded Phantasmagoria of Dim Dream and a pc-98 emulator for our uncle's pc, then both of us got hooked with the 'pew pew girls'. My bro liked Reimu and I liked Yumemi because her theme was GOOD STUFF! The emulation was somewhat unstable at the time but the music could be heard enough to enjoy it!
Then one year after that and, my family still couldn't afford a pc or a console, so I used to go to cybercafes near home after school to unwind at the internet for 2 hours. There I saw a post on a site that talked about phantasmagoria and how they would like another with characters i had no idea who they were? Like, there was this image of a girl in a pink dress with demon wings, which turned out to be Remilia.
At the time, I knew english pretty well, could speak some broken sentences and type it almost nicely so I asked who was that gal and in which game she appeared, which lead me to play EoSD and then get even more hooked with the 2hus, now calling them properly. The olde meme videos and whatnot happened seconds after I checked that post too, so it was like... Orange Clockwork-style exposure to the series, but actually enjoyable!
As for favorites... As soon as I played EoSD and went even deeper into the rabbit hole, I found that people liked this nameless mid boss that came before Cirno and people called her 'Daiyousei' and at the time, I had this thing for underdog characters... Which somehow partially replaced Yumemi because I didn't remember her very well anymore and this midboss green fairy was very present in online communities. After that, I played every 2hu game that came out before the same cyber cafe had to be closed forever, because at that time, people with internet and pcs at home were super common. However, we finally had a decent pc... with subpar internet though... So when we went to my uncle's, we always tried to download as many things as possible! It was also the time when my big bro left home to make his life alone and sadly he forgot all about 2hu so I was all alone irl about those games cuz my friends didn't like it that much.
In 2015, LoLK was released and I downloaded it, very excited to try it out! I think I almost failed a subject because of how hard it was and how hardheaded i was to finish it heh... Then I got to the extra stage, there she was... Hecatia Lapislazuli... It was such a difficult fight, couldn't even get past the first spell card! Until one friday night, I bought some snacks, invited friends to give cheers and play Smash bros after trying... and... I won! I got through the extra stage of LoLK!!!
Some days later, my sketchbooks had very crude drawings of Hecatia, Junko and Clownpiece together, I became obsessed with them! I loved the trio and I never wanted them to get em outta my head!
It was much, much later that I named myself 'Hecatia666' online tho. Previously I was trying to get a presence online as 'Daiyousei' but that name had to fade out because of how obsessed I became with Hecatia. And yes, I remember how everyone was like 'ugh that design is from hot topic doesn't look like 2hu at all' and how that didn't stop me from liking her so much.
As for character themes, it's hard to pick a single favorite... Pandemonic Planet, Pure Furies and Pierrot of the Star-Spangled Banner always come first!
I think the Pc-98 era deserves a mention too and of course Strawberry Crisis never got completely forgotten, alongside Tabula Rasa and Reincarnation!
About stage themes... The Lake Reflects the Pure Moonlight, A World of Nightmares Never Seen Before and Lunate Elf! At least for now...
I'm sorry for the big ass answer... but i wanted to say everything ;w;

‘Contaminated Pop’ - Lyrics Barry Andrews’ 2019 Solo Album
Tumblr media
PUT ME TO WORK
I’ve been a groom I‘ve worked the room I’ve wrapped myself around a broom back in my prime
I fixed the stats
I shaved the rats
Brought litter for the Thundercats
- so many times
(I’ve been a jerk)
PUT ME TO WORK!
O mighty plume! O suffering moon! O weasles in the drawing room! (please make it fast) enklastify my words right now unruly  gods will show me how I’ll get the mule before the plough until the last I will not shirk PUT ME TO WORK!
I’ll get the weight upon on my back I’ll eat my body weight in thrak I’ll holler by the railway track (and holler loud!) This Plasma-shift i cannot stop Tumescence intra bellytop Merch is flying out the shop. and in the crowd, are many perks...
PUT ME TO WORK!
O master fruit so tried and true O solemn plague-rat kangaroo Something to get my teeth into is all I pray now linear ducks have just arrived the bullshit has metastasized i am intensely exercised O mood display! Let’s go beserk...
PUT ME TO WORK!
PUT ME TO WORK!
SHIT-PIXIE Don’t you feel in the spring the sickening overkill of everything? can’t help it it’s all hard-wired now All these earthly delights Looking as silly as a bag of lights Ah come on now It’s gotta feel real tired now…
Hey Mary! Get Lairy! You’re still off with the fairies But you know what the whizz and the gelignite can do.. Don’t tangle, just jangle Bring on the crimes and the scandals I’m the Shit Pixie - I’m gonna dance for you.
Nothing real will impinge on the fierce exertions of your perma-binge. Working for you? Got it in hand now? But you won’t draw the sting with your classical allusions and your broken wing. I’m gonna draw you a line in the sand now
So shabby! Gabby! Get yourself back to the abbey you can tell the enqiuiry what and when you knew They concluded what you did was totally scuppered and scoobied I’m the Shit Pixie and I’m gonna tell you true
All the gears grind for you but the light still shines on Column 32 It’s an idea (might make it worse now) Nothing glows in the night and you feel sexy as an ammonite all your virtues are a kind of curse now
Ah Mimi! It’s dreamy! if you shut your eyes you can see me I’m a horse of a different colour boiled to glue. Ignore it; just floor it. It’s so shot-away-in-the-war it’s just the Shit Pixie who’s got a thing for you..
Virgin of the Ladder
I really dig your chiaroscuro it gives me something I can misconstrue these sickly martyrs make me feel alright: they give me something I can live up to
I guess this is where the magic happens: an epiphany of stone and light? Blue-collar… of the Madonna to bring in something from the building site.
O my Virgin of the Ladder will you be with me when I start to climb? Gravity I’m overcoming Nothing doing when it comes to Time
in this year without a summer when I lost everything I thought was mine all the pain and the sheeting rain and I’m sorry baby that was the last of the wine
and I know I can change but there’s only so much a ladder will do D’you want an acolyte that is so scared of heights? rung by rung I’m climbing up to you O virgin of the ladder grant me only that I do not fall towards the centre of the earth Ah keep that ladder up against the wall Oh Virgin of the Ladder what a pretty gal you are maybe a slow climbdown into the squalid town Light a candle on the way to the bar
it’s laboured as an image overused as a metaphor  for spiritual ascension (Blake and Jacob did it long before)
but you are Mother of the Word Incarnate but what good are words when you want deeds? - you need practical KIT when you’re deep in the shit and that ladder’s gonna meet my needs O my Virgin of the Ladder will you be with me when I start to climb? Gravity I’m overcoming Nothing doing when it comes to Time

ABDOMEN JONES she will never understand all the tragic flaws of man and has not the slightest sympathy for anyone who can she disdains all protocol (she finds much distainable) still she has nothing in the quiver she’s unable to deliver
Calling Abdomen Jones I love Abdomen Jones and her animus is tidal Paging Abdomen Jones - with her 3 mobile phones - she says: ‘work is the blackmail of survival’
Honey badger isn’t fussed he has transcended disgust ….and it’s known that Jones atones for anything she must Doesn’t claim to be profound never takes the Higher Ground She is fully hypostatic - you should hear her in the attic…
Calling Abdomen Jones Strength to Abdomen Jones! with all her subtle modulations Paging Abdomen Jones with her libido made of chrome she says:  ‘pain is a kind of information’
And in any case she sees she is queen of all the bees (as she has some fun and stuns us with her fluent Javanese). And who tunes the concert grand? who will now conduct the band? Her case is prima facie (takes the Beethoven quite pacy)
Calling Abdomen Jones Lovely Abdomen Jones she makes the sound of steam escaping Paging Abdomen Jones she does just fine on her own says: ‘caresses are a form of scraping..’
LOLLIPOP BOMB
Darling monster, sweety-pie.. my mind is wandering sadly I must walk into the reeds` terribly corroded and the saints have crumbled into sand they will not intercede
And I carress the velvet hand grenade my part   is played and yes- the windows are steamy so no-one can see me
I lick the Lollipop Bomb I lick the Lollipop Bomb
hark the hot valkyries cry   their flaxen hair and crazy eyes they come at last for me honey angel baby lamb I am not what you think I am and i will never be
and I will dally in the sullen glade I’m not afraid of al that I will be streaming at twilight’s last gleaming
I lick the Lollipop Bomb I lick the Lollipop Bomb
tho I was galloping along I read all the portents wrong the Golden Age could never last that long
we are not brave we are not free and yet somehow, remarkably, are able to apall this thinning crowd here in this place the baffled looks upon their faces really says it all
and I will freak out when the time arrives it’s very clear to me that life is a long song and I sang the wrong one
I lick the Lollipop Bomb I lick the Lollipop Bomb

 FILTHY WONDERLAND
Come with me if you will - my imaginary friends - I have a tale to tell of phosphors and vapour. Upon a tiny screen i saw a magic realm though i was overwhelmed   I got it down on paper.
there’s a scenario: a woman and a wasp not everybody’s thing but no doubt it’s someone’s tumescent butterflies are spurting everywhere: to get the full effect you can even become one
there is a land of wonders and a lot are for hire where all pay homage to the glories of the gland. Do it with Dumbo’s mummy if that is your desire there’s nothing you can’t do in Filthy Wonderland
Some legendary beasts preposterously endowed throw down a fairy girl with wings and tiara. The hobbit looking on is visibly aroused   to see these monsters ride the lovely Titania
…and Things with tentacles - that penetrate the bum, A massive squirrel with a fearsome erection the  whole environment inclusive as they come, pushing the envelope of natural selection…
There is a brave new vision that machines have designed (the old pornographers will never understand) such complicated pleasures for the liberal mind this is the way of things in Filthy Wonderland
a rampant unicorn; a goblin in a thong: sexual complexity well beyond triangular little Red Riding Hood encountering the wolf in ways (you have to say) are specifically glandular
Phantasmagoria: the Japanese Depraved My Little Pony is away on a hack there. Some mythic masterplan - the lion fellates the lamb - (I need to think this through before I go back there)
There’s an enchanted garden with a final frontier: a blessed Shangri-La to greet with your left hand. they put the magic in you in a new ecosphere a brave and weird new worldc     in Filthy Wonderland
There is a land of wonders (and a lot you can buy) where all pay homage to the glories of the gland. Make it with all the cast and crew of Family Guy nothing’s denied to you in Filthy Wonderland..

CONSOLATION
Christ, here comes the storm again that lacerates the heart: the savage wind of ‘really nothing doing’. Pray for us the blighted: all the failed in love and art, who question everything they were pursuing. When the black dogs come for you well, what else can you do, but downwardly revise your expectations? Just kiss the sickly little rose and hold her steady as she goes as you light out for those lands of Consolation
All the aching moments when it didn’t go your way (we saw it all and none of it was pretty) Now you hear their voices in the gruesome light of day, with the wheezing, cheap harmonium of self pity. And there’s some sad things known to man - and quite a few are sadder than the sodden Paggliacci’s ruminations - but still you’d have a heart of stone to leave the poor clown on his own with half a bottle left of Consolation.
When you’ve failed to consummate the wedding of the soul or any other union you may yearn for Let the baby demons come and stretch you on the coals There’s nothing else you’d really care to burn for. Well it really isn’t fun and it comes for everyone   it hauls you off despite your protestations. But all the Saints of Legoland; the Poundshop Martyrs hand in hand Will wash you in the seas of Consolation.
Satan in a monster truck Jesus on a bike all these things are sent to test your mettle Half-mast flags in Whitehall or your head upon a spike? Depends on where the dust is when it settles. All the things you struggled for you can check em at the door get ready for a dubious sedation. It’s all designed to reassure: the bingo and the talking cure, as they walk you round the grounds of Consolation
Feel the Need (lyric by Abrim Tilmon - Detroit Emeralds)
See how I’m walking See how I'm talking Notice everything in me Feel the need, oh Feel, feel the need in me
I need you by my side To be my guide Can't you see my arms Are open wide? Feel the need, oh Feel, feel the need in me
Every day, I need every day, I want,  without your sweet Sweet love, I'd rather die
I need it constantly your love takes care of me your love is better To me than apple/cherry pie
Your love is tuff and I can't get enough Girl, your love is So important to me Feel the need, feel the need in me
Just put your hand in mine Love me all the time The proof you will Plainly see, Feel the need, oh Feel, feel the need in me
I need you on the case To keep my heart in place You make me what I need to be Feel the need,  Feel the need in me
I need you by my side To be my guide Can't you see my arms Are open wide? Feel the need, oh Feel it, feel the need in me

@wolfvirago:  “Could you hold me, please?” She asked softly, her eyes revealing her sadness.
IN A STATE  of  quiescence  did darkness remain around the entity, a makeshift throne that heeded the his imperial authority even as the innocuous request from his obsequious disciple was made. Phlegmatic demeanour lapsed to showcase patent  commiseration  with knitted brows and from their idle position did pallid fingers lift to beckon her closer. In spite of his continued company and expressed support, certain thoughts had a certain proclivity for  SINKING the highest of spirits into a bottomless abyss of dejection; despondency was a virus and could not be wholly cured, only  temporarily  alleviated to provide a fleeting taste of relief.
To a passing observer, the visual of the suited entity's coaxing fingers and shadow-clad eyes might have induced a  paralyzing  sense of disquietude but the offer was exclusive to select few -----  ( APPROACH THY GOD & RECEIVE THY DESERVED SYMPATHY ! ). Faith's coinage could be matched with invaluable consolation, a reposeful embrace fashioned by the furthest recesses of the Void itself; she had earned placation and she deserved to be seen in her sorrow. The deep  DRONE  of unreality warped surrounding sounds, skipping like an aged record and jarringly unveiling a wall  plastered  in human eyes of various colours all trained on her; no sooner could their sudden presence be noted, however, did they  vanish  without a trace and leave only his own fixed stare to deliver its undivided attention.
                                             ( COME TO ME. )
Tumblr media
Amidst a  phantasmagoria  of surrealism and discomfiting solace, the being's arms opened to welcome her into a secure embrace. Red and cyan intermingled idly with the shadows’ opaque canvas, a splash of colour that contorted and curled in a  refined  dance. There existed an all-encompassing sense of tranquility,  peace  in his immediate proximity.  Distantly could a lulling melody be heard, sounding as though it played from a forgotten music box and peculiarly  nostalgic. A note was skipped and no longer did it sound like a composition from a music box but rather, a whistle cast into the wind. The sound lasted no more than a couple of verses with the same duration as its preliminary iteration, soon to finally dissolve into a  baritone  hum from the entity before words of reassurance were repurposed from the remnants of the  evocative  tune.
                                                                      ❝ Take a deep breath. I'm here now. ❞

Quote
Religion, regardless of the denomination through which it presents itself, is the most terrible enemy of women. Under the pretext of consolation, it annihilates her conscience; in the name of a barren love, it deprives her of love, the source of life and human happiness. With rude phantasmagoria, sketches of a sickly poetry, it separates her from the strong, real, and immense poetry of free existence. Religion is the auxiliary of the despots of home and country; its mission is that of the animal-tamer. Caress or lash, cage or lasso, all that it employs leads primarily to the taming and enslaving of women, because woman is the mother and teacher of the child, and the child will become an adult.

Tech Nostalgia: Computers
I was recently hanging out with some old friends who are also graphic designers and who are also nerd techs like myself, and we were discussing how lucky some of us have been to have had access to technology that lots of kids didn’t have in the 90s or even the 80s.
So in this post I’ll try to share every computer I ever owned.
Tumblr media
MATTEL AQUARIUS 1988 This was my very first computer. My uncle bought this back in 1982 because he was learning BASIC programming but also wanted the flexibility to play games. This thing would connect to a TV just like a console and it came with a bunch of other peripherals like joysticks and cartridge loading capabilities. In 1988 my uncle gave me this thing and a book with some silly BASIC programs that I would spent an entire morning writing and only to press return and see a bunch of square colors on the screen. The chiclet keyboard was pretty awesome though, and my favorite games were Tron and Dungeons & Dragons.
Tumblr media
PACKARD BELL - 1996 Eight years after my first computer I was giving this clunky thing. It was during the spring of 1996 and I was half way through 11th grade. After the huge boom of windows 95 everyone seem to be talking about computers and a few of my other friends were already computer owners and connected to American online. My parents got me this as an attempt to persuade my interest into something productive, at the time I was 16 years old and partying with friends was more important. This computer did change my life because it came with something called Corel Draw Suite, and that sent me down the path of digital art and design. This was the only photo I could find online, but my version did not have a zip drive. This machine was also responsible for getting me into computer games like, doom, duke nukem, the hive, star wars: rebel assault 1 and 2. As well as great point and click adventures like king quest, phantasmagoria, spycraft, blade runner, the dig, and journey man project turbo.
Tumblr media
HEWLETT PACKARD - 1998 A little over two years after getting the packard bell I upgraded to this HP. The one I got was actually and Intel based machine and it came with a zip drive and loaded with windows 98. This was my college machine and it was mostly loaded with graphic software. However, because it was a graphic design program, the college had suggested I buy a mac, but paying for my studies was already too much so having a PC was the affordable option. After a year and a half with this machine I upgraded it to windows 2000 (arguably the best windows version ever). I also upgraded the ram and the video card.
Tumblr media
CUSTOM BUILT PC - 2001  Up until this point I had been an ignorant young man and the computers I had owned were bought for me. This was the first machine I actually bought with my own money. I bought it cash and I had it custom built by a friend who was working in IT at the time. I couldn’t find a photo of the case so that’s why I have a pic of windows xp interface. Because of my friend I was able to get an early release of XP, about 3 months before wide release. This was also the first machine that I actually made money with doing freelance work. In fall of 2003 I made some huge upgrades to this machine, stuff like ram, video card and multiple hard drives and cpu.
Tumblr media
APPLE MACINTOSH G3 - 2001 My first job right out of college was in a small advertising agency and I because I was a junior designer they gave me the machine that was almost 3 years old. The apple quicksilver had already been released. But at least it had some minor upgrades that made it a bit faster. I know that this really wasn’t a computer I owned but working full time in this place for 2 years makes this my daytime computer.
Tumblr media
APPLE MACINTOSH G4 QUICKSILVER - 2003 On my second job as a designer I was given quicksilver with some neat upgrades and macOS X. I still think this tower is one of the greatest piece of design that Apple has made.
Tumblr media
ASUS NOTEBOOK - 2004 Because my previous machine was a custom built I had the ability to continue upgrading it, so 3 years later that was still my working computer. However, I was being faced with the fact that I wanted to travel and I was also planning my move to Toronto. So in the Fall of 2004 I got an Asus Notebook for a whooping $2300. It was the most expensive machine I had purchased, but I needed to make sure I can run all my graphics software without lag, it also had a screen with much better resolution that apple was providing at the time. I eventually got a monitor, keyboard and mouse to use as a workstation.
Tumblr media
APPLE IMAC 24 - 2006 I moved to Toronto in spring of 2005 and quickly landed a job at yet another agency. There I had a 20 inch iMag G5 with upgraded ram and I really enjoyed working on it. So much that in October 2006 I decide to get myself the largest iMac apple had at the time. I ordered with the max ram. This was my first apple computer. I was in a better financial state in my life and I could afford it, plus I already had the pc laptop as a backup. Two things that really persuaded me to make the switch was that worms and viruses were becoming a huge issue in windows xp and also that apple was now using Intel as their cpu.
Tumblr media
APPLE MAC PRO - 2009 Between 08 and 09 I did a digital animation program for one year in which I got exposed to after effects and maya. After I finished that program I switch gears in my career and started working as motion designer in a post production house. This was the machine we were using and it was loaded with both macOS and win xp 64 bit.
Tumblr media
APPLE IMAC 27 - 2010 I found that the lifespan of my previous iMac was quite short and after 3.5 years with it I decided to order another iMac, but I was halfway through apple’s cycle and decided to wait. And in mid 2010 I got this 27 inch beauty. This is the computer where surrogate self tumblr was born.
Tumblr media
APPLE MACBOOK AIR 13 inches - 2012 In 2012 I decided to start my own freelance business and was in need of a portable solution so that I could go see clients and do presentations. I only used this machine for 2 years and then gave it to my wife. In 2014 I got an iPad air 2 and used that as my portable solution. The actual work was still being done on the 27 iMac.
Tumblr media
APPLE MACBOOK PRO - 2017 It is crazy to believe that my 27 inch iMac (2010) lasted almost 7 years. Sure I added ram and swapped the hard drive for a faster one, but still, that tells you a lot about how software is reaching a plateu of some kind and the hardware is now good enough. However, because apple is apple they have to make their macOS incompatible with older machines. My iMac was loaded with yosemite (OSX 10.10) and I wasn’t going to upgrade, the system was already having some lag and I knew that upgrading was going to make it slow, so I having an OS that is over 3 years old makes it hard to use newer applications. So now I got this beauty and its amazing how much more powerful this tiny thing is, even working with video graphics is no problem.

You, my sorry but honored witch In another time burning and lively I would have consumed you ... unfortunately, I did not condemned you only to love, the dead of my taboos still giving you all the attires of your mysticism. You, who open yourself to my incandescent phantasmagoria, confuses me in our indecent rending. In shadow of you, I sink in your clouds in front of my buried taboos, I froze. I escape and stretch myself in soft smoke in burned rolls with evaporated mists, sinking in the light of your thoughts, of me, now so far away. I feel you smiles i'm dying of a dream to destroy, Dreaming reunion to rebuild. In the ashes of an extinguished. But you will no longer split your heart It has long been cracked and split. He is already defeated; i pretend nothing, but I guess in mute that I will never get the consolation of your absolute terror. I see you to hire me you, the magician that I wanted to try and in the putting to death of thy dangers, you stand ready to act for your lineage. But I did not condemned you only to love, giving you new attires day after day. The new days become palpable, like your heart. In the desire of my desires i hate you all my nights, living other lives because I know that in my respect you will not have forgotten of this other bed, the one I should have kept silent, the one I told you, the one that I should never have opened to the other such as the jellyfish that has frozen my conscience and petrified our common blood. But without heart, I always live and feel you. I exile for you, all my forgetfulness. Like the digital hour that does not turn round anymore and recedes an hour, nothing goes more it is already too late. I wish you to be haggard far from you, I pursue only my chance as could be marked with iront the red confession that I inscribed in you, a mother in disturbed memories of the senses what I wanted to destroy you without decency has only helped you Did nothing but pursue you and again chained you. You, my sorry but honored witch In another time of us more distanced I would have condemned you, at my stake At my stake. Without remorse, I will have watched you consuming you for those invisible, which appease you, speak to you, and console you, leaving me alone. I am only the man who seeks his shadow, under foliage that I no longer look at. I have not managed to extinguish your sky so that my star hugs, and I feel so distant, taking advantage near the cliff, the wind that caresses your face by offering you other aspirations. A puff of inspiration, pink like great love, this universal that I seek to touch. Everything becomes false, like a film that has gone wrong, sanded in the dunes of a desert of incomprehension. so, you, my sorry but honored witch in another time of us more distanced i would have condemned you, at my stake At my stake. Hostel conjuring. The attires. NAKAMA

IT'S CALYPSO’S BIRTHDAY WOOO 🎂🎉🎪 I've officially had him for 6 years!!! Oh gosh what do I even say. He's my son. I think if you've been following me for any ammount of time you're familiar with him, BUT IN CASE YOU'RE SOMEHOW NOT...
Calypso is the ringleader to DreamSet Circus, where he's cursed to die every Friday due to a lion attack. Aside from that, he traverses through Arcadia with his friends, which is also just playing video games with them as Arcadia is a virtual world they can travel to. Most of what I draw/present is of him in Arcadia lol.
He's one of my main ocs and has. so much art, probably one of my most drawn ocs as well. Yeah ok idk what else to say. He's the reason I love circuscore, have a mild obsession with the mad hatter, and think magicians are cool.

Dragon’s Crown would make for an amazing 80s movie, what games would you like to see on the big screen?
Let’s attain the heights of Mortal Kombat: Annihilation
[Header picture: Sorceress (1982)]
Video Sport Motion pictures. They not often work out, proper? Generally made as a fast straight-to-video cash-in, typically made with the most effective of intentions, both means they often fail ship an expertise worthy of fan expectations, or their supply materials. Alone within the Darkish, Useless or Alive, BloodRayne, Useless Rising, even Far Cry. It does not matter for those who solid Kevin Nash as Bass Armstrong, you in all probability ought to’ve simply left properly sufficient alone.
The issue right here, all issues thought of, is that Hollywood is not coming to me for concepts. ‘Cos I bought your pitch: Dragon’s Crown. Give me a few million , a mound of the white stuff, and ship me again to the early 1980’s and I will provide you with a film primarily based on Vanillaware’s RPG brawler that might’ve set the American box-office on hearth.
We’ll get in Sybil Danning as Amazon, Julian Sands as Wizard and Maggie Cheung as Elf, or the shopkeeper, or anyone (I simply need her within the film). Lately-discovered megastar Arnie can play Fighter, which can give the entire shitflick some Hollywood gloss. For the villains, we’ll rent particular results genius Tom Savini to create a horrifying roster of beasts, monsters, and demons.
Roger Corman can government produce, to ensure Dragon’s Crown wraps in two weeks, properly under-budget and lacking a ton of vitally-important scenes. Then all that is left is casting of the pivotal position of Sorceress… Hmm… I suppose I gotta give it to Cassandra Peterson, higher identified to Z-list film followers because the incomparable Elvira: Mistress of the Darkish.
Stick in a bucketful of gore and I reckon that’ll make for a fairly candy 75 minutes on the silver display, would not you agree?  Krull could be bricking it come the Summer time blockbuster season. Are you able to do higher? in fact you may. Tell us under what video video games you suppose needs to be up there on the large display. Within the meantime, listed below are some concepts from the Destructoid crew.
Anthony Marzano
Sure I do know they tried to make a film primarily based on BioShock the sport however they have been flawed proper from the beginning. The story of Jack Ryan’s return to Rapture is one that matches completely within the gaming medium as the entire “Would you kindly” twist would not work as properly if it was for a non-playable character. So you’ve got misplaced one of many largest hooks of the story on account of utilizing the flawed medium. Additionally, the great ending (which let’s be sincere could be the movie one) to BioShock was ham-fisted and ended up in a bit too neat of a bow for my liking. So what do you do with the story ripe world of Rapture? Inform the tragic story of how its creator so pushed by his ambitions may acquire a lot, then lose all of it.
Like all good films, the most effective story would come from a ebook and ever since studying the prequel ebook BioShock: Rapture it is the one model of the story I’ve wished to been seen put to display. It switches from character to character telling of how all of them got here right down to the marvelous marvel beneath the ocean after which reveals how all of them died horrible deaths as their collective hubris got here collapsing in round them. It additionally was printed earlier than BioShock: Infinite was allowed to return in and taint Rapture with its stink, so it has that going for it as properly. Would it not be a cheerful film? No, however do you actually desire a completely satisfied ending to a BioShock film? I feel not.
Chris Hovermale
I get pleasure from a superb film, however I don’t get pleasure from them almost as a lot as video games, so I actually can’t consider any recreation I’d get pleasure from extra if it have been merely tailored right into a film.  So as a substitute of considering of a conventional film, I requested myself — what would make for a terrific documentary? Generally the impression video games have on individuals’s lives could be as fascinating because the tales in video games themselves. And for all that they’ve executed to convey us collectively and tear us aside, I’m shocked there aren’t extra documentaries primarily based round occasion video games, most of all Mario Occasion.
Shockingly constant cube rolls breeding skepticism. Bowser areas wreaking havoc on everybody besides, paradoxically, the one who landed on it. Purposefully thrown minigames placing quick leashes on a “teammate’s” Star conquest. The explosive arguments. The remorseful nights on the sofa. The heartfelt apologies and reunions. Mario Occasion would make for a superb movie, not for its content material itself, however the way it molds with our family members.
Then first and final place swap stars from Likelihood Time and historical past repeats itself. They shoulda… shoulda possibly performed Mouse Lure as a substitute…
Occams Electrical Toothbrush
Rule of Rose is a darkish coming-of-age story involving a 19-year-old orphan named Jennifer as she recovers the forgotten recollections of her childhood and remembers the individuals she knew on the Rose Backyard Orphanage. Leaping forwards and backwards between reminiscence and actuality, the sport shifts into an nearly dream-like state at occasions. Thematically, this recreation offers closely in trauma. And guilt. And the evils perpetrated upon each other, particularly how women deal with one another. I’ve all the time discovered this concept fascinating and the sport did one thing with survival horror that I do not suppose has been matched.
I see the film as Lord of the Flies set in a 1930’s British orphanage starring pre-teen women. All the film, aside from a number of key flashbacks, takes place within the Rose Backyard Orphanage. It’s a twisting, darkish place. Burgundy upholstered furnishings and mahogany partitions draped in pale electrical lights that sparkle and wrestle to remain on, groaning with an audible hum as if the constructing itself was crying.  Her fellow orphans are merciless to the purpose of caricature, as Jennifer’s recollections (very similar to our personal) paint the story with such a selected brush. Earlier than she was sufficiently old to have the phrases of the reality, she created monsters to fill within the blanks. Representations of monsters and the monstrous acts she bore witness to that her younger thoughts may course of. These are the boogeymen that hang-out the orphanage.
The entire story performs out as a phantasmagoria of horror and thriller. A soundtrack heavy on cello and piano to imitate the sport’s unimaginable rating. Ti West to direct.
Jonathan Holmes
There’s quite a lot of good that may come from this week’s theme. A Dangerous Dudes film starring Jean-Claude Van Damme and Rob Van Dam the place Bam Margera performs the man who’s all the time on hearth could be good. A Tomba film the place Brendan Fraser performs Tomba and the solid of Frasier performs the Evil Pigs could be even higher.
However all issues thought of, my bets on a BurgerTime film directed by David Cage, starring Nicholas Cage as Pepper Pete, Channing Tatum because the Sizzling Canine, Debra Messing because the Fried Egg, and Michael Cera because the Pickle. Higher but, the basic BurgerTime theme music would play on loop for everything of the movie’s 140 minute run time.
As if that we’re sufficient bang to your buck, those that stick round for the post-credits scene can be handled to the sight of Karnov (performed by Roman Burtsev, the person they dubbed “The Fats Russian Leonardo DiCaprio”) coming into the fray, formally kicking off the Knowledge East Cinematic Universe.
CJ Andriessen
Some video video games lend themselves properly to the cinematic format. World of Warcraft, Tomb Raider, Murderer’s Creed, Hitman, Silent Hill; these are all gaming franchises which are completely ripe for a movie adaptation and I hope someday some studio can flip these IPs into first rate, or on the very least watchable, movies. I’d additionally hope some studio — maybe Toho, Shochiku Co., or Toei Firm – may discover a solution to fund a characteristic movie adaptation of one of many wildest, most colourful and eternally joyous video games ever created: The Fantastic 101.
For those who haven’t performed The Fantastic 101, you’re what’s flawed with the world. It’s a superhero recreation with 100 superheroes, every with their very own skills and backstories, that’s stuffed to the brim with high-quality motion set-pieces and fascinating storyline. Consider the cinematic marvel that might be seeing 100 distinct superheroes preventing in opposition to Operation 001-C. Or consider how cool the time-slowing mechanic of Surprise Black’s Unity Bomb would look on display. Hell, consider the toys and spin-off potential.
The Fantastic 101 flew beneath too many radars, locked on a console that did as properly. It was handed over and forgotten by the lots, regardless of being one of the crucial creative titles of the previous decade. If avid gamers can’t admire its brilliance, possibly moviegoers will.

the ship of time
Tumblr media
The mid to late 90s were a uniquely productive time for video games. Sega and Nintendo were still heavy hitters in the console space, with Sony’s first console being the fresh face at the party. PC games had come into their own, with the development of dedicated video cards and software drivers. CD-ROM was still a fairly novel standard, though it had been refined somewhat since aberrations like the Mega CD and the Philips CD-i. But with this shift in technology came a change in expectations as to who video games were for.
The latest machines weren’t just toys for kids: they were serious multimedia entertainment systems for grown-ups. But if video games were supposed to be for adults now, you wouldn’t have necessarily known it from their content. Titles with mature themes were widely available, if by ‘mature’ we mean gratuitous violence and sexualised imagery. Adolescent boys and young men were still the true target market. Something like Phantasmagoria was about as serious as the medium got: an interactive horror movie spread across seven CDs, it was astonishingly graphic, even by today’s standards.
Tumblr media
This is not to say that games with serious ideas and themes did not exist; they just weren’t always packaged in this way. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is a game that might not feature on everybody’s list of games with mature intent. The N64 had its fair share of games rated for older audiences — from the celebrated adaptation of Goldeneye to Conker’s Bad Fur Day — but in this case, the facade of the gentle, family-friendly Zelda franchise concealed something quite radical. It wasn’t only that this game could be sinister, even frightening; it had a thematic ambition that asked the player to not only do as they were told, but to consider their own personal role in a story.
Tumblr media
As usual for these games, the player controls Link, a little guy in a green suit who moves around a big open world, fighting monsters, solving puzzles, and discovering secret wonders. But better to say they become Link, since as with all the Zelda games, the intention is that the kid in the green suit serves as the direct avatar of the player’s presence in the world. The first thing the player does on starting the game is to rename him - as yourself, perhaps - and in doing so, the game is always talking to you, the player, not to him.
Link’s child-like status is emphasised here as never before. He seems tiny. His stubby little legs are barely longer than his body. His shouts in combat are in the voice of a boy. He can’t even carry his metal shield once you first discover it: he can only protect himself by curling up in a ball with the thing on his back, like a turtle. One of my favourite moments comes in an early dungeon, where you encounter a set of stairs that seem large enough for a giant — they must be climbed up slowly, one at a time.
And then you find the Master Sword, the item which — in the previous Zelda games at least — signalled a permanent transition to maturity. This is supposed to be the point at which the games really begin. But here, on touching it, something new happens: Link is transported many years into the future of his kingdom, and becomes an adult. He’s bigger now. He can handle all kinds of serious weapons. And something terrible has happened.
Tumblr media
The city square that was once all smiling villagers has become a blasted wasteland. Houses are ruined. The only inhabitants have become zombies; if disturbed, they utter a terrifying scream that leaves Link helpless until they latch on to him to drain his health.
The rest of the world fares no better. Some rapacious capitalist has taken over the local farm. A village is lost in drizzle and inertia. The lake lies drained. People appear to have lost their minds.
Tumblr media
As the world becomes worse, Link’s adult self soon proves inadequate. It becomes clear that some problems can only be solved by the child within him. To do that, the player must actually set aside the Master Sword again — temporarily surrendering some of that extra power previously attained — in order to go places that might otherwise be impossible. Only the young Link can find his way to the hidden hallways that lie under the well in the Kakariko Village.
There’s something nightmareish about that dungeon in particular. It isn’t only the literal implications of atrocity — the skulls, the tools of torture, the ghastly revenants that stalk the hidden rooms. It isn’t just the unsettling nature of the adversaries here, which grasp and claw at you with awful hands. And it’s not only the many false walls and floors, and the total lack of sound or animation that accompanies clipping through them.
All of the above induces a feeling of uncanny, of wrongness, as though the game is showing you something you should not be seeing. But worse still is the realisation that the place below the well exists only in the world of the child Link, not in the future world. It’s not only the adult world is corrupted: the evil was here all along, buried out of sight, deep below the innocent version of Hyrule.
Tumblr media
That the game asks the player to confront this in the persona of a child is significant. Partly it’s a trope of horror fiction: a protagonist, encountering something inexplicably haunting, is often reduced to a childlike state of frozen, appalled wonder. But to actually turn them back into a child is a more radical gesture, one which in this instance ends up combining separate notions of what it means to be young.
We come to this game with the expectation that video games are for children, and the game agrees; but it reminds us that also for children are the sense of adventure, exploration and wonder -- and so is the most profound, paralysing notion of fear most of us will ever experience. The inner child has something to show us that we might not want to see. Here, becoming a kid again is not just for the sake of carefree enjoyment: it’s to venture down the well, to confront some awful truth about the world, and perhaps about themselves.
What does it tell us about the world? That it’s a place filled with pointless traps — invisible, illogical, impossible to predict. Everything is rigged against the player by design. The only reward they can expect to find is a special lens, a tool that enables them see those previously invisible traps. An exact analogue for ageing, perhaps, or for spending too long playing video games. That’s how life works: you can never escape the dungeon, but perhaps you can learn to spot the bad parts before they hurt you.
Tumblr media
The above screenshots were taken directly from the 3DS edition of the game.

Welcome to the Wednesday Walk Around the Web, where we weave & wind through weblinks weekly. Hopefully you will find the links on offer amusing, interesting, or informative.
In the US, in the midst of the COVID-19 epidemic and attendant incredibly weak federal response & inconsistent state-level responses, efforts to strip millions of people from what little health insurance they have continues unabated while at the ground level country-club conservatives make as much of a show of flaunting viral containment guidelines as their lower-class counterparts do of their pickup truck smokestacks. As if we didn’t already know that the Republican Party is a death cult.
Obviously the current world crisis involves a great deal of risk for those who are trying to deal with it on any level, whose noble sacrifice we are all indebted to — none more than the astrophysicist who had to get magnets dislodged from his nose when he tried to while away his time in lockdown by inventing a device to keep people from touching their faces.
Perhaps a better lockdown hobby would be browsing the special offers publishers are offering to keep readers occupied.
Some people on the ground level are trying to make genuine and serious contributions in whatever way they can. GE workers are launching protests demanding that the company divert resources to produce badly-needed ventilators, while Instacart workers are striking against the lack of basic protections the company is willing to offer, alongside Amazon workers and others. GameStop’s corporate goons suggested plastic bags for employees in lieu of gloves, so maybe we can get some vitriol going their way too.
Meanwhile, if you’re in lockdown or otherwise adjusting to the telecommuting lifestyle, please make sure you have a very good handle on how exactly your teleconferencing software works and what it’s doing when you’re not using it.
The streets of Paris belong to the ducks now. Maybe they should keep them.
Artist Hieronymus Bosch is known for intriguing, intricate, absurd…well, see for yourself. The best way to honor someone who imagined such surreal phantasmagorias, of course, is a parade.
This Week in Rankings: McDonald’s scented candles. The writer of that list pooh-poohs the idea of burning all six candles at once to summon the restless spirit of the Hamburglar, which I find personally insulting.
A new dinosaur species has been found in amber from 100 million years ago, which is cause for celebration in itself — but in thie case, it turns out the dinosaur is also a very very smolboi.
This Week in Radical Recontextualization: The internet opens a dizzying array of avenues for expressing the same thing in any given manner or style, mixing, remixing, and recombining elements of disparate artforms to create new contexts for well-known stories. Consider, for instance, Frankenstein retold in the medium of Vines.
Friend of the Walk Todd Weber brings news of a portable N64 that takes all of your old cartridges, if you’re willing to sacrifice an old console for a cool project.
The US Supreme Court recently ruled that states can’t be sued for copyright infringement. I look forward to the new mascot for the Louisiana department of health, Mickey Mouse.
This Week in Music: If you want to wish someone a happy birthday, you can do so in the style of 10 classical composers. The Liszt variation is perfect for that person you want to wish a happy birthday to while running away from them.

Animation The Global History by Maureen Furniss
Ch.1- p.g 12 - Lascaux Caves, southwest France, c. 15,000 BCE
Great Black Bull
Tumblr media
“The earliest examples of images that suggest animated movement are found in prehistoric paintings, such as the ones in Lascaux caves in France. These ancient images which include horses and other animals in sequences of slightly altered positions, may indicate that even the earliest humans wanted to set their images in motion.”
Ch. 1 - p.g. 15 - Shadow Animation, fifteenth century
The casting of shadows onto a wall using hands or other objects has occurred worldwide since the earliest years of humanity. The first reference that alludes to magic lanterns was in the fifteenth century by Italian engineer and physician Giovanni Fontana.
Ch. 1 - p.g 13/14 - Magic-Lantern Shows, seventeenth century
Magic-Lanterns were the forerunners to slide projectors that came about in the seventeenth century and served various uses from that point onwards. They worked by pushing a series of hand-painted (or photographic) glass slides into a beam of light which would project the image out.
Ch. 1 - p.g 15 - Chromatrope and Chreutoscope
By the nineteenth century the equipment had and advanced and most acts now incorporated other equipment including a chromatrope which used two, overlapping, colourful, glass plates which where lit with the projection lamp and then spun with a hand crank to create a light show.                                             The chreutoscope held six images which were projected one after the other to create very simple animated movement.
Ch. 1 - p.g 15/16 - Phantasmagoria, eighteenth century
Ghost stories (phantasmagoria) were the most popular Magic-Lantern shows in which portable lanterns were hidden behind a translucent screen on which frightening images were projected. Belgian scientist and artist Etienne Gaspard Robertson is best known for this genre and coined his own term Fantasmagorie
Ch. 1 - p.g 16 - Precursor to Cinema, eighteenth century
Advancements and increasing popularity behind Magic Lanterns made people more familiar with experiencing image screenings which would path the way to the advent of Cinema.
Ch. 1 - p.g 17 - Motion Devices, nineteenth century
Medical advancements throughout the century lead to new findings about how the human body worked. As a means of demonstrating these new discoveries motion devices were created such as thaumatropes, zoetropes and phenakistoscopes. Overtime these inventions found their way into the general public and became forms of entertainment, now they are antiques and collectors items. The Flipbook however which was invented by British printer John Linnett in 1868 remains to be popular and went on to be the core function of drawn animation.
Ch.1 - p.g 18/19 - Automata, eighteenth century
The late eighteenth century saw the introduction of machine manufacturing and automation. It was this same innovation that lead to automata for entertainment and art which would be the early foreshadowing of stop-motion animation. Figures animal or human in nature imitated movement giving one of the earliest impressions of artificial life.
Ch. 16 - The Emergence of Electronic Games
People have always played games. Though primitive and accessible traditionally we have an innate curiosity to try new things, learn and improve. The first computer game historically was made in 1958 in a US-Government-owned laboratory. It was expensive and required massive machines to be run. “Tennis for Two” developed by Willie Higginbotham. MIT created their own game “Spacewar”, a two-player game in which opposing spaceships tried to down one another.
Didn’t become widely accessible until the 70′s when Nolan Bushnell and Ted Dabney began developing video games for arcade cabinets. “Computer Space” (Spacewar) was completed in 1971, didn’t sell well. Left and formed Atari in 1972 and released ”Pong” a year later. Began the golden age of arcade games.
Don Bluth took an interest in Arcade games and saw the potential for Disney-esque studio animation and narrative. He created two arcade games Dragon’s Quest (1983) and Space Ace (1984) which were stylistically unique and innovative for the time. Used laserdisc for multiple narratives. Furthered videogames.
1972 saw the release of the first home console (Magnavox Odyssey) by Ralph Baer “Father of the video game”. It used television monitors to display the graphics and used cartridges to hold game information.
Further technological advances went hand in hand with advancements in the video game industry. With more processing power came better visuals and audio. With more peripherals came more complex and intuitive gameplay. The major game companies (Nintendo, Sega, Sony) went into competition with each driving the other to advance the technology culminating in 3D animation within the industry.
Ch. 21 - Computer-Generated Animation in Features
By the 1980′s feature films had moved away from art and towards profitability. They were made to be as lucrative as possible. Blockbusters were full of spectacle but lacked complex narrative so they could sell the concept with a sentence or two. This was helped immensely by the Special effects industry creating believable practical effects such as explosions, costumes, animatronics...etc.
Though the industry was aware of the potential for Computer generated imagery there wasn’t the know-how to integrate it into films. It was still far to complex and inaccessible for most. However due to Apples desire to make Computing part of day to day lives they had begun distributing their hardware to schools in hopes of creating customers for life. The effect of this was young people were becoming more accustomed to the technology and more adept at using it.
John Lasseter was inspired by Tron to explore the possibilities of 3D animation. Contacted MAGI and worked on a project together. Looked into developing “Brave Little Toaster” into a CGI Film, was fired from Disney for not consulting. Got a job at Lucas Film as part of a Graphics Group working towards 3D Animation Software. Was bought out by Steve Jobs and turned into Pixar. Began developing character animation.
