Actually, “mija” also means my daughter. the difference bewteen “mija” and “mi hija” is the same difference between “you’re” and “you are”. You didn’t change the meaning of the sentence at all. All you did was contract a word.

i thought so but i've never formally studied spanish so i'm happy to accept any corrections thrown at me when i attempt it. thank you for explaining that to me, it makes me feel a whole lot better about the err of my ways :)
