Mini Bio: During his first week of life, I was not really able to tend to him much. It was my first week of college, and I was super busy. The first batch of 4 chicks of the same breeding trio did just fine, so this one was expected to as well. The thing is, though, Marijuana had some issues. At first, everything was normal. He and his siblings hatched normally, and were happy babies. After about a day or two, he lost the ability to walk properly. He would just flutter around the box to get around instead of getting up and walking. It was decided that either he had some neurological issues or he possibly ate a poisoned bug since. At the time, the garage the chicks were in had been sprayed for spiders days before they hatched. With this, I just assumed he would die and let him live his little life with his siblings since he was in no visible distress. So, when the day came for his siblings to go outside and stay outside, so did he. He received no special treatment, and was just allowed to be a chicken. Surprisingly with being outside, he was able to get a foot hold in the wire bottom of their cage and began to wobble about. Weeks later, he was walking properly! In one of the photos you can see a group of chicks, and he was the smallest one. During his first two weeks of life, he barely grew, and this has caused him to be much smaller than he should be today. Once he was able to walk properly and no one could tell that he ever had any issues, he was involved in a small dog attack. As I was moving chicks around trying to get everyone situated, I was also dog sitting my aunt’s two dogs. The biggest dog was no issue, he just enjoyed being near me and did his own thing. The little wiener dog, though, chased everything he could. When I was moving the older set of chicks and let them loose while I was cleaning their cage and moving it to fresh grass, the dog chased them around but did not seem like he was going to grab them. This still made me uncomfortable, so I put them up and took the set of chicks Marijuana was in out but moved them to another cage to theirs could be cleaned. I carried two chicks at a time, which was a bad idea, because one squirmed free and both chicks flew out of my hand. I quickly caught one, but the dog went after the other. The dog and I both grabbed onto Marijuana at the same time, and I quickly snatched my baby chick away from him and locked the dog up. Marijuana had no visible damage other than a few feathers missing and was just bit in the back, but somehow that caused one of his legs to go completely limp. I thought ‘this is it, there is no way he can heal from this’, but I decided to try to help him out incase this is another neurological issue and was going to heal over eventually. I put him in a cage by himself and retrieved him later that day once I was done with everything I was doing, then I snuck him inside. I wrapped his foot up to using cloth, a bandage, and a cut toilet paper roll. I also made him a little shoe to keep his toes sticking out to give him some balance if he were to put weight on it. He then stayed in a baby doll crib every night and was put outside in a crate during the day and tried to make sure no one found out I was keeping a chicken in my room every night. For the next two months he was slowly gaining control of his leg again through having it bandaged up as well as forcing him to move around. He became a very lazy bird after me hand feeding him, so I would nudge him around or leave him in a random spot in the yard to make him get up and walk either to his cage or to me. Although he wasn’t happy about that, it did help him in the long run. I never let him stay laying down for long if he wasn’t tired. Once he had a good enough walk to where he did not need me any more, he became an outdoor chicken again and stayed outside near his siblings and others. I tried to re-introduce him several times, but all were unsuccessful. He stayed by himself for 2 months, but not really caring. He could still see everyone, but just could not touch anyone. Earlier this month (May, 2017) I was able to finally introduce him to one group of chickens. I had first thought ‘maybe the baby turkey group would be good’, but he just tried to hump every single turkey. So then, I tried out the mutt bantam group. I had once tried previously to put him with one hen who had injured herself, but she straight up attacked him. This time, though, I moved the hens to him, and they all took a liking to each other (at least, he took a liking to them). He is now staying with them in their rather small cage, but he does not care. Maybe one day I’ll be able to put him in the free range group like I want, but for now he is enjoying life with 6 lovely little ladies. 

Random fact, he has red feathers that flow down his sides. At first, I thought it was blood and freaked out. But nope! He just has cool red feathers.

I do remember all my projects. From 2005 to 2006, I wrote two huge self insert Pokemon fanfics about me and my friends entering the Pokemon wrld that totalled up to 100k words. It included a whole mythos about how all the legendary pokemon came to be.

2007 I started the Zodiac Trilogy, so named because the country was themed after the zodiac. It was...Avatar meets Warrior Cats, you had four warring tribes themed on the four elements, and the encroachment of an external threat that forced them to come together. This was a trilogy (Zodiac, The Eye of the Swan, Seven Days to Spring) which showed the kingdom’s progression from segregated, to vaguely coming to terms with its new unity, and in the second and third installments in particular, there was a lot of travelling across the world and interference by deities and impossible circumstances. And prophecies. Entirely too many of them. It was meant to be epic fantasy, but I was also very young and each instalment was anywhere between 20k to 50k words. I drew a map for the story that I kept on my person for three years, it had continents and kingdoms and shit.

In 2008 came the story whose title I’ve forgotten somehow, about the queen travelling the world incognito in search of something with which to exorcise the spirit who had possessed her daughter, but finds herself also haunted by some extension of the same entity, and slowly coming to the realisation that holes leading between this world and Hell are beginning to open in the fabric of reality across the queendom. I also drew maps for this one, but it was just one country the size of Russia. I don’t remember this one particularly well, but there were two side characters with a romance plot.

OTDOTS was a big one that I still care about, cause I spent 6 years writing it. It was 10 people who are all connected to a simmering revolution against the tyrant, and who all have a personal grudge against him. they meet up over the course of six years, and then they encounter other peripheral rebel groups who eventually become allies in their ultimate quest. there's also an overarching plot about deities and the nature of the cosmos, and soon the plot threads unite to reveal whatever the hell was happening there. it's the proto-Revolving Door, quite a proper epic fantasy, and it had 200 named characters. it’s also still my longest story

2009: The next one was called The Prize of the Sword, it was about a world with 12 deities in three houses, and twelve strains of magic corresponding to these: those powers ranged across heat, light, absence (i.e. cold/void), stone, etc. The premise was that there was a blood sport tournament where the prize was a sword that could grant anything you wished for, and you only had to be the last person alive to claim it.

Then it was Wake the Guardians. This was fairly big, somewhere between 70k and 100k words, and I managed to write it all in a month somehow. A story about a small country on the brink of war with its neighbour (strained diplomatic relations are a theme in my stories...and diplomatic relations in general), whose princess was promised in marriage to the neighbour’s prince in the hopes of settling the conflict. Except obviously she didn't like this, and there was family drama, and she learned to swordfight, and then things came to a head when their neighbours broke the armistice etc. etc.

In 2010 I another story in the universe with 12 deities, called Lapis Lazuli. This one was about a girl who was being hunted down by a serial killer with a grudge against her father--a famous man with many enemies. She was born to two of the most prominent sorcerers in the country, and turned out to be a muggle basically, which was a burden she bore constantly. Early 2010 I also plotted, but never got past 10,000 words, of “Candle Story”, a story about guard school where each guard squad was made up of four members with specific roles: a caller who communed with animals, a dancer who set the rhythm of battle, a musician who cast status effects with melody and chords, and a scholar who cast spells by reciting long memorised passages. It was meant to be reciprocally fictional with Eagles and Swans, as in each story was a work of fiction in the other story.

Late 2010 was also when I started writing Eagles and Swans, you guys vaguely know this one, it’s quite an important story to me. Ruthenia is orphaned by a shitty religious law; she joins anarchic gangs who vandalise government property before becoming legal ward/employee to inventor Titanio,. He sends her to an uptown school, where via a trading of favours with the Arcane Prince, she comes face to face with the humanity and utter ineptitude of the people making up the government. And then natural disasters start to happen, and Astra goes from going downhill to probably totally fucked. The original draft for this was 350k words and then I cut down on a lot of the extraneous worldbuilding and it became 110k words (said worldbuilding is on a wiki-in-progress, eagles-and-swans)

2013 is when I started writing Revolving Door. I’ve said enough about this one I think. it was always meant to be “the most complicated story, encompassing the vastest swath of reality, I could possibly conceive”

Darth Vader and sergeant Kreel... so far

It’s no secret I love stories focused on Vader and people working directly or indirecty for him. Though I’m glad for Aphra’s solo series, I’m sad she will not be Vader’s agent anymore or it seems like that. That’s why I’m so grateful for Kreel and the role he, as a stormtrooper from 501st Legion, is playing right now in comics.

The general outline of Kreel's past has been already shown in Star Wars #21; since the day Empire came to Chagar IX and changed horrible situation of its people for better, Kreel decided to became a stormtrooper. In academy he had only one friend, who died during their first mission. Kreel took the death of his close comrade really hard and that day killed every rebels he met. And he is doing the same day after day because he believes that Empire can bring order into galaxy while Rebels - terrorists - wreak only chaos.

Somehow between the first mission and the special assignment on Nar Shaddaa (that took Kreel a few years to complete), he was noticed by Darth Vader and allowed to join the 501st Legion. What speaks a lot about Kreel’s efficiency, since “members of the 501st are hand-picked by Lord Darth Vader from within the stormtrooper units”. We don’t know how and when that happened but I think it’s safe to say that Kreel proved to be worthy of such honor.

We, the viewers, may only guessing why Kreel was chosen for this undercover mission. Hatred for Rebels doesn’t seems to be a major factor here, rather his traumatic childhood in fighting pits on Chagar IX. Anakin once said to Ahsoka "being a slave is a state of mind”;  Vader, as a former slave from Tatooine, understood well danger and hardship of such task. The job was risky one; considering the fact that imperial agent could die (fail) at any moment, it makes any advantage vital for succes. Kreel was probably the best canditate because he experienced slavery once and survived years in similar fighting arenas. So i doubt Kreel was blindly chosen for the job.

Thinking about it makes me wonder if Vader - directly or indirectly - gave some tips to his agent how to act around Hutt and / or how to gain Grakkus’ trust/attention; similar to storyline of Shadows of the Empire comics, where Vader suggested Wrenga Jixton how to get close to Jabba during his undercover mission on Tatooine (a mission to keep Luke alive).

Though Kreel didn’t captured Luke Skywalker on Nar Shaddaa, he was told he could have whatever assignment he wanted. Kreel chose to lead SCAR squad (a.k.a. Task Force 99), an elite group whose ultimate mission was to eliminate terrorists (rebels) for good. The Squad was tight-knit unit, each soldier a seasoned veteran who waited to Kreel either to prove himself or die in action - he may be their new sarge yet he was still an outsider, someone untested. Kreel didn’t tell them about his childhood nor latest undercover mission where he “picked up a few special skills”.

Now, in the latest issues, SCAR Squad had skirmish with Rebels. Vader already knows that Luke is his son and wants him alive, preferably unharmed. Despite Vader’s orders, Kreel sought Luke to challenge him to a lightsaber duel and happily kept beating Hero of Rebellion. Vader’s reaction?

To be fair, it’s difficult to judge Vader’s state of emotion, since we don’t see his face nor hear a tone of his voice. But he seems to be calm. Sure, he “rebuked” Kreel (and Luke) for lack of skills for such endeavor and even threatened his trooper... yet I wouldn’t say there is much of anger. Kreel wasn’t affected much by his superior’s threat so either he is just arrogant or he is enough familiar with Vader’s behaviour to judge if it’s safe to be cocky / smartass.

Soon after that Luke used Force push that left Kreel unconscious and trapped.

I find it very interesting that Vader so quickly switched from “sergeant Kreel” (how until now he adressed his trooper all the time) to the “first name basis”. It reminds me Vader’s interaction with commander Voca from DV: Lost Command.

SCAR Squad failed Darth Vader who didn’t hide his disappointment. Still, Kreel seemed to be sure he (and his troopers) will be sent after Skywalker on a new mission. Maybe he simple guessed that captured droid (C-3PO) will put Lord of the Sith in a better humor. Or maybe he was so sure that Vader will give him one more chance to prove himself useful, because he was working for him long enough to know his superior?

Then Kreel’s plan backfired. Though C-3PO talked about everything he knew (and talked and talked and talked, making whole SCAR Squad suffer because they couldn’t get “the stupid thing” to shut up), Vader wasn’t pleased then again, Kreel couldn’t know who built that droid and maybe he would think twice before presenting Dark Lord of the Sith something from his past when he hated being reminded of his previous life and showed that quite clearly:

So, in that moment Kreel - along with rest of squad - met Vader’s disapproval. What doesn’t bode well for him. Though Vader ordered them do destroy C-3PO, Kreel disagreed with his supervisor‘s plan; instead he wants use the droid as a bait for Rebels who seems to be enough crazy to rescue too talkative “stupid thing”. This is risky move because it may go both ways.

Then again, Kreel wouldn’t be the first imperial soldier to disobey Vader’s direct order... and some men were still respected / prized by Dark Lord of the Sith. I mean, imperial officers like Daine Jir (who spoke against one of Vader’s suggestions) or Lekauf (who defied him in order to protect Vader’s back even though Vader didn’t need any help) get renowed by their actions. And the fact that all of them ARE part of 501st Legion gives me a bit of hope that Kreel will survive the next chapter(s).

Clone Troopers: Commander Voca

Darth Vader rarely(?) calls his subordinates by just name; even when he personally dislike specific imperial officers (like Ozzel) he usually adresses them in proper way, by their military rank. In Lost Command, the only one time Vader dropped that habbit and called Voca by only his name was the scene when the commander was visible upset by death of some of his troopers.

Maybe it’s just me, but that scene is quite powerful, you know? The clone commander who until now followed Vader’s orders - including the atrocious ones - without any protest, now doesn’t even try to hide his pain / sadness; his whole body language screams he is not emotionally well and Vader... doesn’t rebuke him in any way. The Lord of the Sith drops military rank and by addressing Voca like that made me feel like Vader... sounds more informal. In that scene he doesn't command the clone trooper, doesn’t demand a raport. I think Vader understands perfectly commander’s feeling about lost troopers and doesn’t treat it as a weakness. He asks how many of your squad have survived - not how many mine troopers - and this is what brings Voca back into “soldier mode” from such rare moment of visible emotional distress in clone trooper.

I don’t know even how to describe my feeling about this scene, but that moment really catched my attention. Because Vader so rarely drops the proper (”military”) way to address the subordinates. And that makes the whole Vader’s presence here more... gentle? human?
