Spoilers for the latest chapter

I’m not too sure how many people have had this thought, but I think Twilight will give up being a spy and embrace the identity of Loid Forger; and I’d like to thank the new chapter for supplying me with exactly I’d like Loid to be after he quits the spy game.

Twilight’s whole shtick is coming up with stories and making masks to fill the roles, so him becoming an animator/writer/comic would be a way to peacefully use those skills. I’m leaning more towards a comic writer/illustrator. 

Franky would be his PR/printer/editor etc. and go on to have their own studio. I’m imagining something like Mirage Comics, where it’s just the two spit balling ideas until an unanimous “THAT’s IT!” moment.

I’d just love to have Loid living a fulfilling and truthful life, where all the lies and deceptions aren’t ‘for the mission’ but for whatever he’s writing.

And of course Anya is his biggest critic and his biggest fan.

So as I mentioned, I got my copy of the Family Portrait stories!

It feels weird to suddenly have to turn the pages the left-to-right way, lol. But I guess it wouldn't work the right-to-left way for a book translated to English.

Opening it there's this cute illustration, as well as the winter-y one on the back, which kinda makes me wonder: why is it bound on the book?? I wished there was a safe way for me to rip it off and hang it on my wall. Anyway, both illustrations are super cute!

And so my collection continues to grow!

I might order the Eyes Only guide soon, I'm just wary of it including spoilers from a few future chapters. So we'll see. In any case, this might be the first time since I was a child collecting Disney's Ducks comics (and I wasn't that meticulous with those, even) that I've made such a collection! Should things keep going well I intend to keep buying the volumes to the end of the story :D

Spoilered thoughts about the stories included in the book below!

The first mission with the Eden kids going camping actually reminded me that I can find the dynamic between Anya and Damian pretty funny, at least from seeing how stubborn Damian gets. The illustration especially of Damian holding Anya's hand with Anya going like "He can be nice for real??" and Damian going like "How dare she manipulate me into feeling bad for her!!" is terrific and the only way I'll ever see this dynamic, thanks. Also really loved the moment of Damian kinda and dismissively admitting to himself he's also scared of the thunderstorm. Also found it really funny how at the end, Loid is described as handsome XD the writer knew her audience!

In the second story I think I lost count how many times I laughed. While with a deep, interesting layer, Yuri is just so entertaining to me. The most normal guy ever, wishing he was an ingredient so his sister could chop him into her dishes along with pieces of the cutting board 🥰

No, but really, I think there was a lot of care in writing Yuri here. His inner monologue is unending and bound to give Anya a headache, though it was quite sudden to hear him refer to her as a bastard and the spawn of Loid's loins 😳 but I liked the darker tone as he "acted" as a cop and took out his frustrations on the actor, picturing him as a potentially-abusive Loid. It ticks at a very interesting dynamic which I very much hope Endo explores at some point :D

(I actually wonder if there will be a moment post-identity reveal (where Yuri also knows about both Loid and Yor) and he makes a really ugly quip at Anya and Loid goes all protective like "Say whatever you want about me, but hurt my daughter again and I won't hesitate, bitch")

While I found Anya's "interrogation" scene funny, I found it a bit repetitive that she used the same technique that she used with the Red Circus guy from the bullet-in-butt date. Small note, but still XD

For the third story I have both praises and criticism... I understand how it was needed for the story, but I don't like it when characters' disabilities are taken away. It would have made for a bit more complicated setting but it would have been a little more respectful to have Alessa unable to see Franky because she had eye surgery for whatever reason aside from being blind before, and she had bandages on and couldn't see. And Franky would feel like he's on borrowed time because he knows from day to day she'll get the bandages off and she'll face him.

Also, making her nineteen instead of sixteen is just on the verge. And because I have met people who are now professional singers... nineteen is way too young to be considered for opera. She could be training, of course, but it's a very long-term investment. There's a reason most opera singers you see in concerts are in their late twenties at the earliest. And I get that she comes from a musical background and she has a talent or whatever, but again. She could have been aged up to mid-twenties and to me it would have made much more sense.

But as for the good parts, I was actually surprised by how convincing Franky was about wanting to deceive her. And when Twilight turned and asked "Are you sure you're okay with this?" I might have felt a chill. I should have given Franky more credit, haha. And the banter between them was nice, with Twilight teetering on thinking of Franky as a friend, and how Franky ended up handling the situation... that was good, I liked it.

I had already read the last story through a fan translation, so I wasn't surprised by anything new there. It was just as fun and wacky as you'd expect it to be. By the way, I liked the point that story drove on, that despite the painter's success and fame, he only had a cheap apartment for himself and donated all his earnings so that future art students could paint without worrying about the cost of their supplies. Very in touch with the whole story's message :)

What struck me as odd was when Loid hugged Anya to keep the pretense of him being a doting father. I was like "He would not fucking do that" cause we know homeboy isn't ready for such proximity, and an actual hug between Anya and Loid has to have a big impact, the times he held her up while she slept or whatever notwithstanding.

But the ending was really sweet, with Twilight feeling a sense of warmth and getting a bit of honesty in his smile. The last illustration by Endo was very fitting!

Overall, it was interesting to hold a book in my hands and read about the characters that way. I think Aya Yajima did a good job capturing the characters, and I'm always happy to read Endo's afterwords, he really seems like a very chill and down-to-earth guy.

I feel kinda torn about a possible jealous Loid arc. On one hand, I've enjoyed fan comics on it. But on the other hand, it’s a bit of a pet peeve of mine when some writers use jealousy to arouse romantic feelings between the main couple. It’s a bit emotionally manipulative. I wish they used another way to deepen their spiritual bond.

I kinda want Yor being in danger, and Loid frantically doing everything in his power to help her out even at the cost of his identity being known and more importantly, his own life being in danger.

You are the writer how are you surprised that Grimm falls in love first?????

I have mentioned this pretty often but I get to decide maybe 5% of what happens. Everything else is improvised and run by the characters. I'm only one step ahead of you guys in a way that I can draw the comic, and even when drawing I have only a vague idea what's been spoken/what's going on. Sometimes I have to typeset panels I've already drawn to see what the characters are talking about, so that I can tell what I should draw next.

I don't plan. I don't script. I don't design. I don't do storyboards. I sit down and start to draw and see what happens.

Here are some things from Death-Head's Deal that are NOT my ideas but the story/characters decided these themselves:

Vanessa was supposed to be hyena. She wanted to be a leopard called Vanessa.

Grimm was supposed to be a lizard like black monster type, while Pearl was his assistant. Nope, Pearl is an office worker at the HQ and Grimm is a half-face cat working as North's leader, and they’re married. The moment Pearl sees Grimm in the comic is the moment I saw Grimm for the first time, too.

Dinky Sugar was supposed to be just a side character changing a few lines with Joon.

In the same story, Miranda was supposed to be the bad girl, breaking Joon's heart. But nope, Joon told me they're happily together and live under the same roof. I expected they had just met recently, like a few months ago.

Speaking of Joon, I didn't design him. I kept seeing in my head a scene were a woman is speaking with a half-face rabbit man from the East faction, but that man wasn't Alrick. I went "Ok, now, who are you?"

I've decided names only for a few characters; Grimm, Kibibi, Cadao, Metin, Aditi, and Pearl's & Alyssee’s surnames. Everyone else in DHD has named themselves, meaning that the name immediately comes to me or some other character reveals it (like Joon introduced Viv and Miranda to me. I would have never named anyone as Viv or Miranda!).

Talking about names, I knew that Death-Head men named Dio and Joon exist in the DHD world before I knew how they looked like.

West Faction leader and assistant introduced themselves to me just last week.

I don't like to draw stories with children or families, those are my least favorite tropes I avoid like plague if I can, yet we have Cat & Hagon with 4 kids and Joon babysitting Viv. If I get to decide, no one had kids.

Loid just revealed last night how he and Pearl know each other, and told me what his role and place in the DH world actually is. I had been wondering where Pearl and Loid knew each other from, and if Loid was going to stay or just pop in for a short visit.

ALL that has been revealed about the DHD world, their work, paymets and how Lywood is.

Factions having their own facial paint styles.

Dio being formerly in North under Grimm’s command.

Hagon being sick, being a home dad.

Alrick introduced Lou-Lou to me completely.

Kahamet appeared to me in a dream many, many years prior to Death-Head’s Deal.

Vanilla having some shady businesses going on and her targeting Alrick.

Just A FEW to mention.

I've said that I feel that I can't really take a full credit for Death-Head's Deal (nor for any other creations of mine) as I don't "make" them. They come to me.

This type of, well, perhaps we could call it inspirational channeling, seems to be quite typical for many creative people.

Part of what makes Anya such a good character is that despite being a telepath and frequently having access to all the information she would need to know - in the interview she was able to read Loid's mind for what she should answer, in tests she can cheat off of other children, when Loid met her in the interview she knew exactly what he wanted - she isn't overpowered. Other flaws, like bad acting, lack of emotional regulation, and inattentiveness prevent her from using her telepathy to its full advantage. And these traits are all very typical of a 5 year old child, which makes it very clever, almost! She's theoretically the most powerful character in the show, she just hasn't honed any skills on account of being 5, and that makes her character absolutely brilliant.

I think if the ML universe were real and someone made a comic where it's like "Ladybug, the top surgery was a success" and Ladybug responds "where's Chat Noir?" and the doctor said "who do you think took your boobs?" and they walked to him and he just had extra large bazonkatonks. hmm i'm not sure if i'd say i'll NEVER post it but... a snippet from a twiyor fic that i haven't touched in over a year (and i got very stuck on it so idk if i'll ever continue it lol):

Yor chews her lip like there was something else she wanted to say, but then merely gives a small nod. “Well... thank you,” she says, clutching the jacket more tightly around her shoulders.  Loid intends to say something in response—a simple you’re welcome would suffice—yet the words die on his tongue. They’re still standing facing each other under the golden halo of a nearby street lamp, and the light softly illuminates Yor’s features—a faint glimmer in her eyes, the tip of her nose tinged red from the cold, Loid’s jacket hanging loosely around her frame. The wind blows a strand of dark hair across her face, and Loid almost reaches up to brush it aside without thinking. His hand clenches at his side. Perhaps it’s a good thing that he’s starting to fall into the doting husband role so easily, but he really needs to keep himself in check before he crosses any boundaries.

usually before i begin writing, or very early on in drafting! idk why but i don't like working on something if i don't have a name for it lol.

OOHH i'd probably say "red skies".... of all my fics i feel like this one is the most "cinematic" (and i mean, it was very star wars inspired so that's part of the reason why i think lol).

Fans of animation, anime and gaming can meet the voices behind characters from their favorite franchises next month when an array of actors from hits like “Transformers,” “Dora the Explorer,” “My Hero Academia,” “Chainsaw Man,” “Halo,” “Sonic the Hedgehog” and dozens of others attend FAN EXPO Portland, set for January 12-14 at Oregon Convention Center. Broke: Spy x Family ends when everyone learns each other’s secrets and they realize they are a real family.

Woke: Spy x Family ends when they realize they are a real family, but no one learns any additional secrets and they keep on being happy oblivious morons forever. Anya is eternally confounded.

Bespoke: Yor and Loid discover each other’s secrets, but don’t tell Anya that they know, and realize they are a real family. They wait until Anya is a teenager to tell her, and she responds with “fucking finally” and she then has a lot of explaining to do.

Hi I absolutely loved your SxF Summertime records animatic and i would love to see more of that au, maybe a fanfic or short small comics maybe the aftermath of the animatic if you want that is.

Thank you! Honestly, I'm not the best writer, I tend to ramble on or write too much to the point of uninterest or excessiveness. But if anyone wants to write their own parts of the au, it would be greatly appreciated ! o(*°▽°*)o (I might write some headcanons though)

I do think i'll try to make some comics revolving around the series such as becky and anya being adopted siblings or more shenanigans with the their friendgroup. As for the aftermath, I mainly left it opened ended (kinda) because I didnt have the clearest ending for it lmao. I didn't know if i wanted to go FULL ANGST aka the forger family will always will be separated or angst but then cliché twist leading to happy ending. The only absolute event in the aftermath that I know for sure I want to happen is loid and anya identities revealed and reunited and suddenly anya decks him in the face because yea she loves him and knows hes out here saving the world but shes still very human and reliving the hurt he caused cause wtf you leave and then show up with a new family?? I would also like them to go one at least one more spy mission, perhaps continuing the same one that caused loid to get this replacement fake family.

THIS GOT LONGER THAN I MEANT IT TO GHGHGtbh i got into voca/utaloids really late like literally last year HAHAi didnt really like the autotune-y voices at first but then i heard ECHO for the first time and it really made me wake up and realize just how much work goes into each song and all the art work/animations/edits ETC

ITS LIKE EACH SONG IS AN EXPLOSION OF SO MUCH ARTIST EFFORT AND I RLLY STARTED TO FULLY APPRECIATE THEM!! MUSIC PRODUCERS/TUNERS/WRITERS/ANIMATORS/ILLUSTRATORS AND OFTEN ITS JUST ONE PERSON DOING ALL THAT and then came genuine love for the music! ALSO THE AESTHETICS ARE JUST RLLY GOOD HAHA 

i always loved miku’s design even before i was a fan of her voice! AND THE RIGHT TUNER MAKES A W O R L D OF DIFFERENCE if your first vocaloid song exposure was a badly tuned miku im so sorry

like tbh theres way too much sadly in common between them both

-the people apart from the characters’ creator want them to fit an expectation based on visual and refuse to accept any depth or anything that goes against their visual expectation for them

-people who arent the creator of the characters or the writer of the story wanting to dictate what the characters are like, even (especially) when it goes directly against the canon and what the character’s creator has directly stated

-except the difference is one is self contained and has no influence from a very whiny side of the fandom that isnt even the audience, and the other is just a part of a larger thing and has to sit back and watch as said characters are absolutely torn apart and traumatized by other characters they have no control over

anyways i feel like theres way too many similarities unfortunately ahaha

like obvs virelai and schuu, but even anda and liszt have the similarity of people being kinda creepily interested in their physical appearance and not their actual personality (cept everything anda does ‘must be out of spite’ and ricchan can do no wrong bc shes got a nice set of abs)

and seiki and wa being grossly misinterpreted by the fandom based on what they want to see rather than what is, and dovo and ana being irrationally hated for something pretty much valid and warranted they did

leggy and moz are both reduced to the “uvu cinnamon roll can do no wrong” or at least the latter was (not so much anymore sighs this fandom istg)

idk coda and cho are a lil different bc people are pretty apathetic about coda besides being the “joke character” (imean to be fair i havent told the whole story about how it was programmed by a professional gamer whos sister was chronically ill and who made it an idol/vocaloid in order to help cheer her up but even without that directly ive hinted if these asshats ever paid attention to anyone but their character or what they wanted to see lmao) and id rather not he have the aggressive fanbase that cho has that refuses to see him as anything other than “uvu sad boy all alone i will be his only friend”

but all my salt aside i love this so much. i mean if it takes me drawing stupid 4komas to give my characters the happiness they deserve ill do it

I love how you talk about your writing process with the DHD stories! I feel like when you're creating a world like you have, there's often a pressure on writers to know how everything works in advance, every intricate detail of the world and every character motivation. So it makes me happy when I see you say "oh yeah, I didn't know (this detail/name/etc) until the character told me."

PS I reread every DHD in full every time they cross my dash

PPS I dunno why but Alrick's tail is probably my favorite little detail. Makes me smile every time. Delightful.

I showed Death-Head's Deal for my friend when we met after 2 years. Her first reaction to Alrick's tail was "OH HE HAS A TAIL <3 HE HEE, THAT'S THE BEST <3"

I would go as far as say that it is dangerous to try to know everything of your characters and the world before you start your work. That leaves NO ROOM for natural development and you can get just unnecessary burn out when you try to squeeze everything into this neatly ready-made mold. It gives you unnecessary work to try to create everything around the tight frames you have set yourself. Always leave some room for the story, the world and/or the characters to evolve naturally.

I finished FUZZY last month after drawing it for 4,5 years. I STILL don't know Fuzzy's (on left) past! Not more than what was shown in the comic! I don't know how he ended up to Irene's temple and decided this is the place to be. I don't know what his favorite yogurt is!

Loid (on right) is turning 7, I think. I still don't know what his birth name is, or where his teacher-friend Navi is and what happened to her. He somehow corrupted a gift he got and I don't how or why that happened either.
