Especially when you clearly don't know what autism looks like outside of your little cousin whom you see only on occasional holidays

Got into an argument with a Twitter dr over them insisting "but everyone masks, especially people with mental disorders! it's not just an autism thing!"

Like.... ok? "Autism masking is a thing" and "other people mask too" are two statements that can co-exist?

And it's not a contest, but like.... I would say that it's more pronounced and deep-set with autistic people who can mask. Because autism affects every part of us, and we end up altering our entire personalities to the point we feel like we don't have a personality outside of masking.

As opposed to masking only a few traits specific to another disorder.

The weenie dog’s okay, btw. He was diagnosed with Old, so now he takes a liver support supplement

#she speaks #Ollie #fecal was negative and abdominal palpation yielded no discomfort #but the blood test showed some abnormal liver values #which is pretty common in senior dogs #and he’s like ~15 #Cushings is the big concern obviously #but he’s a healthy boy and we’re all very attentive to our animals #and we have an amazing vet team #no other symptoms of cushings were present as well so it’s just a matter of watching in case that changes #vet wants him back in in a month #and we’re gonna bring in the ~15 yo border collie for testing too just to be safe #she still acts like a puppy you’d never guess she’s around 15 or so years old #so does lala tbh if not for all the grey you’d never guess he’s around 15 either

Ah yes… public meltdowns, being nauseous bc the paper grocery bags are too crinkly, wanting to slap people bc you are very socially burnt out, being overwhelmed to the point of tears when you step into big stores, etc….

So in vogue….

Is autism "just a neurotype" or is it a disorder? If you want my opinion…. The answer is it's both. There are many aspects of autism that are completely harmless (esp if mildly affected), but there are also many aspects of it that make it disabling.

Problems caused by my autism include: -moderate to severe sensory issues -prone to social overwhelm -social anxiety -very severe burnout

going to the store was so worth it i got to say hi to the little (3 months old iirc?) puppy again and this rlly nice smooth collie .. owner was like "they can tell u like dogs!" Fuck man i sure do

Another doggy question- I've heard that Irish Wolfhounds are now sometimes used for herding sheep. I've grown up with shepherd dogs and they're happiest when the whole 'flock' (the family in this case) is all together. Sometimes they will 'herd' us into the same room together (path blocking and body leaning). So, do any of the Cus have similar traits, like subtly herding all the Celts in one room? Or is it Diarmuid who is trying to get his pack together?

Oh it's definitely the Cu's who do this. Lancer is the most obvious about it because he'll just push/drag/pull people around or cling to them and whine a bunch until they eventually cave into his whims but when Berserker is in the mood for a nice cuddle pile he'll drag his fellow hound bros into him with his tail and just hold them there until he's satisfied [Avengermuid also gets this treatment and begrudgingly puts up with it]

Diarmuid doesn't do any herding but he does like laying across his friend's laps and if they want to go on, like, a hike or something he's always the most excited about it and will happily walk for hours if you let him

A little neat fact about wolfhounds btw! They're gentle giants who are incredibly sensitive dogs and very gentle with other pets and children. As long as you teach them to walk on a lead and not chase other animals when they're outside, they're perfectly chill and easygoing and are very affectionate with their family
