A DIY Cleaning Hack Works!!

We all LOVE a clean, germ and odor free home.  Nothing is more important to me than the health of my family and I.  Over the years I’ve learned a few cleaning hack lessons that actually WORK!!!  When I say WORK I mean really WORK, cut thru grease/grime, removes soap scum, removes rust, leaves a fresh scent and gets rid of musty odors.  Keeping your home clean & fresh in a timely manner  is achievable.  Saving $$$ while achieving these goals makes the hacks that follow are a win/win for you and your wallet.

Let’s get started....

1. Bathroom Cleaning Hack

I can’t stress enough the importance of having a clean, germ free bathroom.  From the ceiling top to the bottom floor, when you enter, what you see/smell is what you get.  To sanitize this job all you will need is already in most homes.

6-8 oz spray bottle

1/2 cup 5-6% white distilled vinegar

1 tablespoon Original Dawn Dish liquid

4-5 drops your favorite essential oil (optional)

Clean Cleaning Towel (Clorox Dish Are Best!!!)

To clean, add the ingredients to spray bottle, then swish back and forth several times to combine/activate the cleaning agents. Cleaning 1 area at a time, spray sink thoroughly to saturate, let sit for 2-3 minutes, then wipe & clean area.  Repeating is Usually not necessary as this mixture cleans thru dirt quickly.  Rinse with clear warm water.  The scent of this can be strong, if it bothers you leave the room while product sits and/or use fan or open window for ventilation.  This is great for removing musty odors!!  You’ll smell the difference upon drying ;)

2.Rust removal

When I say this removes rust SAFELY that’s what I mean. What you need..

Citric acid powder

Distilled white vinegar 5%

A spray bottle

Scouring Pad/steelwool

Newspaper or old rag 

Cover the area you’ll be placing the rusted item on with the newspaper/rag.  Place item, then pour citric acid to completely cover the rusted area(s).  Next spray with vinegar.  Allow to sit 10-15 minutes, check periodically,  Use steelwood pad if needed to loosen rust.  Then rinse in HOT water.  Repeat steps if needed.  Always use HOT water on metals prone to rusting, avoid harsh soaps/detergents..
