3/13/24.
McTells (Hertford, England) were one of the many British bands from the mid-80s. Yes, they are on the Cherry Red Records behemoth 4 CD C86 compilation from 2014.
Like many bands from that era, McTells are releasing a new LP. Unlike others, this looks to be a completely DIY affair - look at those handmade cassette cases made from cereal boxes.
The music is just outstanding. This recalls any number of bands from The Clean (great keyboard work on "Cut It Out") to The Vacant Lot (vocals). And I saw that Trouser Press said that "the band’s early work holds a British mirror up to Australia’s Cannanes".

my beautiful shirt, one thousand violins (1986, 2014).
you paint smiles on your face
yet you hide so much more
for when the clouds, the clouds start crying
you’re left alone with your misery

Come Together: Adventures on the Indie Dancefloor 1989–1992

1985 Was A Fantastic Year
1985 Was A Fantastic Year
“1985 had seen a real upswing in the fortunes of indie with new bands, new clubs, and new fanzines seemingly appearing every week. To capitalize on this Roy Carr, the NME’s Special Projects Editor, proposed putting together a new NME mix tape of largely guitar-driven indie bands to be called C86. Of the twenty-two bands that would eventually make it on to C86, sixteen had either formed or…

Review: Hawkwind – We Are Looking In On You
Hawkwind – We Are Looking In On You
Format: 2CD / Label: Cherry Red Records
Release: 2022
Tekst: Peter Marinus

king chicago, the bible (1986).
i'll meet you in summer
i'll meet you on the longest day
we'll remember the great big world
say, "i love you, i love you, i love you, i love you..."
i love you
a little bit more than i love myself
and that's scary,
i've never really loved anybody else
