Lucy had been worried sick for the last few days when Tim went dark. She had tried to put her trust in him, but when she asked him to leave, he just left, without another thought. Part of her hoped he’d stay and fight, prove to her that they were worth it. Because that’s what he told her. He told her that she was worth it, that they were worth it.

So why was he shutting her out?

She tried to bring her concerns to Angela, hoping that she, at the very least still had Angela on her side. Angela told her to trust Tim. She was trying to, she really was. But then Angela went dark, and Lucy had never felt more betrayed than in that moment when her phone went to voicemail when calling the two most important people in her life.

She truly felt so alone in that moment. Thank god for Tamara.

Angela wouldn’t necessarily consider herself the world’s best TO, but she certainly wasn’t the worst. She’s had a great bunch of rookies thus far. She considered herself prepared and well-trained for everything her rookies could have thrown at them. However, nothing could have prepared her for the hotshot that was Lucy Chen.

Lucy was bold and extremely overconfident. When Angela first saw her, it was when she was slamming a man into the front desk and saying cockily she was reporting for duty. Angela knew at that moment she wanted the little hotshot. She’d be lying if she said it didn’t turn her on a little bit.

Luck seemed to be in her hands when Grey announced they’d be riding together. It was very clear from the beginning that Lucy was going to be a great cop, and Angela considered herself lucky to lead her to that.

Angela sighed, she had been invited with the rest of the precinct to the Lakers basketball game, and while she was appreciative of the opportunity, spending her Friday night with a bunch of her coworkers pumped up on alcohol and at a sporting event. It wasn’t exactly her ideal Friday night, however, Sargent Caradine said she needed to do some more team bonding. Caradine's insistence on her attendance had overridden her protests, citing her and her partner Nyla's absences from previous events. So here she was, begrudgingly making her way towards the stadium, her steps measured and deliberate.

Outside the entrance to Crypto Arena, Angela paused, taking a moment to observe the crowd. She scanned the faces, her sharp eyes missing nothing as she searched for any sign of Nyla's arrival. Her promise to wait for Nyla was the only thing keeping her from turning on her heel and leaving.

Until then, she would bide her time, content to people-watch and tolerate the festivities until her partner arrived to provide some much-needed company. She watched a few couples in particular, and couldn’t help but watch as the two held hands, smiles plastered on their faces walking inside the arena. She couldn’t help but frown that at this point in her life, she didn’t have someone to drag along to stupid events.

Following the death of her parents, Lucy became withdrawn and distant from everyone at the castle. She no longer read to the maid children, she no longer went out riding, she no longer spent time in the kitchen with cooks, and she withdrew herself from anything that wasn’t royal duty. Lucy was determined to keep everyone out, and it was breaking Angela’s heart.

Logically she understood. She knew the grief that comes from losing a parent, so she can’t imagine losing both of them. No matter how painful of a relationship they had, Lucy loved them. Angela felt guilt, she felt partially to blame for the death of the king and queen. She fears a part of Lucy blames her as well. She tried reaching out, trying to be there for the other woman, but it seemed as though Lucy wanted nothing to do with her. Angela was to be seen, not heard.

Angela couldn't shake the feeling that Lucy, her friend and confidante, was slowly slipping away from her. It was as if a subtle yet undeniable distance had begun to grow between them, leaving Angela feeling bewildered and disheartened. Their once effortless connection now felt strained, with Lucy's elusive behavior causing Angela to question the stability of their relationship. Each attempt to bridge the gap seemed to push Lucy further away, leaving Angela feeling frustrated and helpless. Despite the uncertainty, Angela remained committed to salvaging their relationship, or whatever it might be, determined to uncover the root cause of Lucy's withdrawal and restore the relationship they once shared.

Im thinking about renaming this to “In another life” but I haven’t fully committed it 😅 anyways I hope you enjoy the new chapter 😊
