I’ve just started sinking my teeth into the third book from the Ice Cream Parlor Mystery series, A Killer Sundae. Set in the real town of Chagrin Falls, Ohio, my new hometown, we ride along with Bronwyn in her brand new ice cream truck, sleuthing around town to catch who really poisoned the former Harvest Time Festival Queen!
I found this series on a Buzzfeed list starting with A Deadly Inside Scoop. I was immediately perked up by the scenery of Chagrin Falls, a place I have visited every summer for almost 10 years and now reside in. Author Abby Collette gives Chagrin Falls a real Cabot Cove feel and to me, Abby is a real life J.B. Fletcher!
I love these books because they make you feel right at home. All you need is a glass of red wine, a cozy blanket and of course a pint of ice cream to accompany this adventure.
Bronwyn is a very relatable heroine, reluctant but always answers the call to action to catch the real killer and save the town. Add in some fun and fiercely loyal friends, family and a slow burn potential romance (not that she needs it! She’s got a lot on her plate between ice cream and murder!) and you have a recipe for a sweet mystery novel!
Thoughts?

Here's the thing about politics, and ultimately, the world: you are going to be biased, and you are going to have a limited understanding of others to an extent. The key is to not deny that this exists because you will be ignorant when you are biased and limited in your worldview.
Yes, absolutely listen to multiple voices and points of view and a variety of different types of people. But know that this isn't the same as erasing all biases and "self-centered" views. Strive to do better without denying that you are fallible.

Vegas as a theatre kid is genius, tho. Imagine - he hates Kinn because Kinn always gets the lead role and Vegas gets cast in secondary roles, but that doesn’t stop him from from having full on primadonna meltdowns, complete with crying. In public. Regularly.
One day he goes up to the catwalk during lunch break hoping to find a way to drop something heavy on Kinn’s head and find Pete up there. Pete is a techie; being invisible is literally his job. What’s more, he’s in charge of lighting - shining the spot light on other people while standing in the shadows. Pete never brings lunch for himself and is always alone up on the catwalk.
Vegas has a long standing crush on Pete - he loves scaring Pete and making him jump, especially when Pete is carrying delicate equipment -  but he’s never acted on it because Pete seems so stable and down to earth - obviously he wouldn’t be interested in someone as dramatic and second-tier as Vegas (maybe Vegas has promised himself he’ll ask Pete out if he can get a lead role, but he doesn’t believe, in his heart, that he’ll ever get the lead role).
Anyway, Vegas sits down next to Pete on the catwalk, leers at him and when Pete doesn’t leave, offers him half his lunch (temporarily putting aside plans for murder). When Pete starts eating the food, a little light bulb goes off in Vegas’ brain. Normally, he buys his lunch from a deli on the way to work, but when he gets home that evening he starts teaching himself how to cook. Pretty soon Pete is eating elaborately crafted home-made lunches while they bond over their shitty fathers and favorite plays. Pete eats Vegas’ food like it’s the only food he gets all day, Vegas watches Pete eat like he’s starving.
Eventually they start dating and Pete’s experience with ropes and weight limits comes in handy...
