I’m switching to another type of breathwork when I start my daily Biodynamic Meditation. Brand new research published in the prestigious journal Cell shows that 5 minutes of cyclic sighing is more effective at improving mood and reducing anxiety than 20 minutes of mindfulness meditation. Cyclic sighing, also called the physiological sigh, was brought to public attention by the Huberman Lab podcast from the Stanford University neurobiology lab. To do cyclic sighing, you inhale quickly and then inhale quickly again to fill your lungs, and then exhale slowly. Repeat. It’s like this: Sniff. Sniff. Ahhhhhhhh. As I understand it, the double inhalation displaces carbon dioxide from your lungs. And, as ancient yogis knew and modern science verifies, a longer exhalation is calming. After doing it 7 times this morning, stillness was more quickly available. I also noticed all.the.sounds coming in my ears: a woodpecker nearby, distant traffic, birds chirping, dogs barking, roosters crowing. I sensed the Tide moving up and down in my central channel, then healing energy settling in my pelvis, first at my sit bones, then at my sacrum. When I give a Craniosacral Biodynamics session, I start with a brief induction inviting my client to let their body sink into the table, feeling the sensations of being held and supported. I’m going to add cyclic sighing. #biodynamicmeditation #craniosacralbiodynamics #craniosacraltherapy #breath #cyclicsighing #physiologicalsigh #improvemood #reduceanxiety #hubermanlab #stanford #neurobiology #research #ancientyogis #modernscience #longerexhalation #stillness #tide #centralchannel #healingenergy (at Austin, Texas) https://www.instagram.com/p/CnR5ZaouCu_/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

I’ve been looking for an image showing the central energy channel through which the Tide flows in Biodynamic Meditation (and Craniosacral Biodynamics). This one is closer to what I experience than most of the images. There are maps…and then there’s the territory. Conceptual information and felt experience. IMO, we need maps but the territory is what we’re exploring. In yoga anatomy, the sushumna nadi is the channel that connects the crown of the head to the pelvic floor. Alongside it, usually shown interweaving with chakras, are the ida and pingala nadis. I experience them as one strong central channel. This is the channel to tune into when seeking the Tide. Every human has this central channel. Practicing yoga (any kind of yoga) can help the channel strengthen as it also cultivates your awareness of it. There are numerous options! You can do Yoga with Adriene (my Austin home girl) at home on YouTube for free if you prefer. After I’d done 7 bhastrikas and settled into sukhasana, I brought my attention there…and felt my central channel get stronger and clearer. Monkey mind was less active than usual. The Tide — the sensation of energy flowing in the vertical plane — paused to open my heart chakra. I felt radiance at my face and my ajna third-eye chakra open. And then swirliness in my pelvis. #biodynamicmeditation #craniosacralbiodynamics #craniosacraltherapy #centralchannel #energychannel #sushumna #nadi #yogaanatomy #ida #pingala #map #territory #yoga #yogawithadriene #concepts #feltexperience #awareness #bhastrika #sukhasana #attention #monkeymind #tide #heartchakra #radianceatmyface #ajnachakra #pelvis #swirliness #selfhealing #healingenergy (at Austin, Texas) https://www.instagram.com/p/CnMxxO6Os8F/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

This morning in my Biodynamic Meditation, the Tide was elusive. I did 12 Bhastrikas, settled into sukhasana, and tuned into my body. I sensed my midline, seeking the rising and falling sensation of tidal motion. Nothing. Was I in a stillpoint? I couldn’t tell! I didn’t feel a pooling of energy at either my cranial or sacral areas. I remember when I first started getting acquainted with Biodynamics 10 years ago, seeking the tide and not finding it. Then, one day I found it, or part of it, in my abdomen along my midline or central channel. I felt elated! The next day I couldn’t find it. I went through a period of finding it and losing it. Each time I found it, it became clearer. I was able to sense its full path, moving up and down between the crown of my head and my pelvic floor in a stately rhythm. Nowadays, I usually find it easily. Sometimes I find it in still moments during the day, at a red light, standing in line, waiting for my food to be brought to my table. There’s a reassuring quality to finding it. I believe it plays a big role in homeostasis, keeping our many physiological systems coordinated. Sometimes it seems like a battery, with positive and negative poles. When it goes into stillpoint and the swirly state, its healing energy is optimizing our energetic patterns that augment our wellbeing. While I was waiting to find it this morning, I noticed energy in the palms of my hands, where we have chakras. I felt my ajna third-eye chakra open but not so much radiance at my face today. #biodynamicmeditation #craniosacralbiodynamics #craniosacraltherapy #craniosacral #tide #midline #centralchannel #seeking #finding #sensation #stillpoint #cranial #sacral #palmchakras #homeostasis #ajnachakra #optimizing #wellbeing (at Austin, Texas) https://www.instagram.com/p/CnE9crjOLcI/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

My #biodynamicmeditation today started with 10 bhastrikas, some back-and-forth between monkey mind and Tide, and then settling into a stillpoint at the sacral end of the central channel, where it stayed and got into a slow swirl for over half of my 30-minute session. I need healing there, from my tailbone broken when I was about 6 to a difficult childbirth at 28 to my sacral ligaments being stretched out in a car wreck when I was 43. I’m grateful to have the assistance of the biodynamic healing energy through these meditations and also through giving and receiving #craniosacralbiodynamics sessions, which work on me as well as the receiver in the unified healing field. Physical therapy exercises, qi gong, and yoga help as well. It has occurred to me that prospective students of Craniosacral Biodynamics could benefit from learning and practicing Biodynamic Meditation. It would serve as a jumpstart for training. #craniosacraltherapy #sacral #centralchannel #tide #monkeymind #stillpoint #swirliness #biodynamictraining #prospectivestudents #unifiedfield #healing #selfhealing Photo taken in January 2020 at Dhamma Siri, Kaufman, Texas. Woman. Life. Freedom. Today’s 30-minute Biodynamic Meditation was about radiance at my face that just grew stronger and coincided with a cranial stillpoint involving my entire head, and then a slow, slow swirliness of the self-healing process along my central channel. Whew. The New Year energy is strong! I don’t make resolutions, but I work on improving my habits. This year I’m focusing on how I start and end each day to optimize my energy, discovering my art of gearing up and winding down. Sending you blessings for 2023. #biodynamicmeditation #craniosacralbiodynamics #craniosacraltherapy #tide #stillpoint #cranial #radianceattheface #swirliness #selfhealing #centralchannel #womanlifefreedom #newyearenergy #habits #discovery #blessings (at Austin, Texas) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cm6vg2eublj/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
