The CCP collections, now on your screens!
The two other significant collections which the VAMD manages are the Museo ng Kalinangang Pilipino Collection and the Collection of Asian Traditional Musical Instruments which are both housed at the permanent exhibit space in the 4th floor of the CCP Main Theater Building.
In case you missed the announcement from CCP Website or CCP Facebook Page, this same area will be the location of the inaugural exhibit of 21AM, which is a new museum that the CCP is working towards. Be sure to watch out for it!
The Museo ng Kalinangang Pilipino Collection showcases significant Filipino artistic traditions and explores the development of Philippine art and aesthetics in the socio-cultural context. The Collection of Asian Traditional Musical Instruments, on the other hand, includes various traditional musical instruments that were acquired from 1969 to 1986 through donations to the CCP by the countries represented: Indonesia, Japan, China, and Korea. The Philippine musical instruments were donated by National Artist for Music Dr. Lucrecia R. Kasilag (1918-2008), a former president of the CCP.
What’s your favorite experience inside the Museo ng Kalinanang Pilipino? Share them in the comments section below! We’d love to hear from you!

Did you know that an average of thirty exhibitions are mounted at the CCP every year? Our annual exhibition program covers and explores many types of exhibitions and art forms. Local and international artists, curators and art organizations from various disciplines all have the opportunity to exhibit their work at the CCP galleries (more on that in a few weeks!).There are seven indoor gallery spaces and four outdoor spaces in the area of the CCP Main Theater Building alone. The outdoor spaces are used for public art like large-scale sculptures, installations, murals and performances. The VAMD also encourages proposals for site-specific installations and exhibitions in other spaces within the CCP Main Theater Building and in alternative spaces within the CCP complex. We also love getting proposals that look at the CCP Collections in new and innovative ways.
Our annual exhibition program consists of venue grant exhibits, main gallery exhibits, collection exhibits, exhibits with our institutional partners and exhibits related to CCP-wide festivals. To engage our audiences, the VAMD also organizes regular public programs such as tours, talks, workshops, screenings, performances, etc., in conjunction with exhibitions.

Alliance of Greater Manila Area Museums Museum Talk Series Online
18-19 June 2020; 10am-12nn Moderated by Yael Buencamino
Last March, without much warning, museums had to close to prevent the spread of the COVID19 virus. Slowly but surely, operations had to shift to the digital space. This took a toll on our workforce, our collections, as with on-going and future exhibitions. Needless to say, this pandemic has challenged the capacities and sustainability of museums everywhere.
It is with this in mind that the Alliance of Greater Manila Area Museums (AGMAM), through the CCP’s Visual Arts and Museum Division, presents “How are we doing?” – a virtual town hall that aims to unify and grow solidarity among AGMAM members, to look into the welfare of museum-workers and encourage sustainable professional practice, and to get a better idea of the present and possible future for museums.
It is in these trying times, let us come together as a community to understand the different creative ways that our museums can adapt to unprecedented changes and discover new ideas for innovation.
