sorry for being random but can you gimme a few tips for scoring well in maths in cbse 12th grade? i scored just 34.5/80 in my half yearlies and you can imagine how must have i felt- the same old crying, anxiety attacks falana dimkana.

i thought i should ask it from someone who actually likes the subject rather than the people who just want me to score good to improve their school average :)

Allllrightttt, let’s start with the basic tips:

Learn how to love maths-*gets hit with chappal* No seriously, this is the first one. Maths ko ye sochkar solve mat karo ki mujhe exam clear karna hai. Try to be curious about the concept instead, like “oh I just learnt this new trick to solve answers, let me learn/revise its functioning by solving these questions.”

Focus on your syllabus. This isn’t an exam but a practice tip. Solve the entire NCERT, examples and miscellaneous included (if you don’t like math in general than you can skip those 2 tho). Solved them? Solve it again! Then add to the mix the exampler and viola! 99% prepping complete. This is where majority of your exam will be from. And given that you aren’t a fan of math to begin with, you can afford to skip exampler aswell if your only aim is of getting a decent enough score. (Take for example my own exam. It was a bit out of syllabus with tougher and outside questions on the 4 marks side, I hadn’t practiced anything outside the ncert but still bagged an 85% in math without coaching and all.)

Take your sweet sweet time. Again, a practice tip. Don’t rush , don’t try to be ahead of syllabus or put more on your plate than you can handle. Do enough questions/exercises as you can take on a singular day. Take time to ‘digest’ them , or let them settle in your mind. How you did that question, what formulae and derivation were to be used, let it seep in. Then, do more questions once you feel like it, the next day Of course. Once you have somewhat versed yourself in those questions and come back for revision, increase the number of questions you do each time, like solving more of the kind from exampler/RD or combining multiple exercises in one session. It will help both your speed and practice in general. Ps, don’t forget to redo questions you got wrong! Take extra care with them :)

Don’t sweat it. Rona dhona chhod do, aur chinta to bhulke bhi mat lo. Isse jo kaam achha ho rha hai wo bhi kharaab ho jaega. I remember losing it after getting my first term result because I scored a mere 32/40 in math, took me awhile to get back to the subject. I did it again in my CLAT/AILET, I was so afraid/anxious that I ended up sick in the twilight hours of my exam day and naturally didn’t get a good score. I have learned my lesson since, do me a favour and learn from my mistakes instead of repeating them on yourself :’)

Analyse yourself. Last but not the least, Sweety, its you who knows her own predicament, tour strength and weaknesses, and how smart you really are. It’s your own life that depends on you, na kal ko Pados waali auntie ki life pe asar padega aapke kuchh karne na karne se, na wo chidne waali chachi ki, to in logo ka pressure bilkul mat lo. Aur na khudko inke bacho se compare karo. Final term hai abhi, tab tak itni mehnat karo ki apna personal best de sako, and if your personal best in math still falls short of being your overall best, then leave it. Bhagwaan ne jin fields m talent diya hai unme kuchh karo, kyunki kismat m aagey wahi likha hai. The Battle Of Boards; How To Make The Right Choice

While traditionally most school students in India have studied under the aegis of CBSE, ICSE or various state boards, lately we see a sizeable presence of IGCSE and IB programs offered by International Boards. If you are making the choice of a school for your child, the choice of the board will be an important determinant. If you find the choice overwhelming, here is information that will come in handy.

Before we get into the relative merits of each of these boards, let us deep dive into what these newer boards are.

IGCSE & IB Boards

1. IGCSE

IGCSE has been established by the University of Cambridge International examinations. It is well recognized worldwide for its emphasis on student-centric education. Essentially, it is taught as a two-year course for students in Grades 9 and 10.

Some of the different assessment methods used include:

¹Practical Exercises

²Project work

³Oral & listening tests

⁴Written examinations

⁵Post IGCSE, students have the option to go for A/AS levels or IBDP

IB

The IB programs were founded by The International Baccalaureate Organization, a non-profit educational organization, headquartered in Geneva.

It runs three programs:

1. Primary Years Program from Kindergarten to Grade 5

2. Middle Years Program from Grades 6 to Grade 10

3. The Diploma Program for Grades11 and 12

RELATIVE MERITS OF EACH BOARD

While all the boards both offer quality education, the major point of difference lies in their overall approach & pedagogy. To begin with, it is important to know that IB defines strict infrastructure requirements and teaching methodology. What this means is that IB is a more “standard product” and there are fewer variations between two schools. CBSE, Cambridge, on the other hand are largely examination boards and define minimum infrastructure requirements and teacher student ratios. These boards do not enforce teaching methodology, making it largely school dependent. So, choice of school becomes extremely important. Let us look at some of the unique features of each board in some detail:

CBSE

¹It has a large number of schools affiliated to it and is known to offer a comprehensive curriculum.

²It has a well-defined syllabus with moderate levels of syllabus difficulty.

³It is particularly known for its extensive science and mathematics syllabus and its conventional teaching methods. If a student is aiming at pursuing a career in Engineering or Medicine, CBSE is especially preferable as the syllabi & pattern of the Indian entrance examinations is aligned to the CBSE curriculum.

⁴It is therefore known for its highly competitive exam focus.

⁵In terms of subject choice flexibility, it can be ranked moderate since it tends to follow structured patterns.

Besides its large presence in India, it is also well accepted internationally and therefore is not a deterrent for students who wish to pursue higher education overseas.

IB

IB board is known to focus on practical and application based learning. The approach clearly is more expansive.

¹The syllabus isn’t well defined, and in terms of syllabus difficulty it is rated high.

²It offers high subject flexibility. IB offers the choice of 6 subject groups where the student needs to choose one subject from each group.

³It has a low competitive exam focus

points In terms of acceptability, while it is preferred internationally, in the Indian context acceptability is not at par. IB grade points are converted, putting the students in a disadvantageous position.

IGCSE

¹It is known for its well-defined syllabus with high level of syllabus difficulty

²Offers high subject flexibility. Students can even drop the language in grade 12. It offers more than 70 different disciplines for the child to choose from.

³It offers high subject flexibility. IB offers the choice of 6 subject groups where the student needs to choose one subject from each group.

⁴It has a low competitive exam focus.

On account of its international recognition the board works well for students who aim to pursue higher education abroad. In the Indian context, however, acceptability is not at par.

Clearly each of these boards comes with their own strengths. In making the choice of board, students need to see how well they fit in with their individual objectives. In addition, some of the other aspects to consider include:

There are far more CBSE schools spread across the country. The choice available to students in terms of CBSE schools is therefore far greater. Particularly if you have a transferable job, it works extremely well. A number of progressive CBSE schools are emerging as the right choice of students looking for both academic rigor and all-round development.

In terms of fee, CBSE schools are far more affordable. Typically the fee for schools with International Boards is double or even more as compared to CBSE schools.

So go ahead and make the right choice that works for your ward. Irrespective of the board, of course, it is the sincere work put in by the child that will be the biggest marker of success!

Minimum Age Requirements for CBSE Nursery Schools in India in 2024–2025

The Directorate of Education (DoE) has released a circular to provide clarification on the application of the revised age requirements for admissions at the entry-level, including nursery or preschool, in accordance with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

This circular states that the updated age requirements won't apply for the 2024–2025 school year. We'll look at the minimum age requirements for nursery admissions in this article.

According to NEP 2020 guidelines, children must be three years old when they are admitted to preschool and six years old when they start Class I.

The Department of Education (DoE) released a circular in the preceding academic year that stipulated that children who wish to enroll in nursery or preschool, beginning with the academic year 2024–2025, must have reached the age of three on or before June 1, 2024. In a similar vein, starting with the academic year 2024–2025, the revised age requirement for Class I admissions will take effect.
