No, but we don't talk enough about how fucked up Ellen is. Like... My heart breaks for Oscar. Not saying he was entirely innocent but Ellen was definitely the reason that they got divorced. Ellen would literally step on anyone to get what she wants, even her own kids. June said multiple times that she felt like a political pawn and her parenting depended on how valuable you were to her.

Oscar wanted a career in politics too, he wanted to be a senator. He could never fulfil that dream though because of Ellen. Ellen would never let him. That's where the tension in their marriage started. Oscar places his children and his family before his dreams, Ellen doesn't. I think things got really bad when Ellen started talking about running for president.

Oscar wouldn't have wanted to be first gentleman. First the man had to give up his dreams and then he was going to be forced into the white house? Losing all privacy, being a hot topic in the tabloids, an almost certain end to his dreams of being a senator. Absolutely not. I think Ellen did not give a shit how upset Oscar was or how badly she would be uprooting her kids lives, she just wanted to president. She pushed Oscar until finally he couldn't take it anymore and he left. He left because Ellen completely disregarded him their entire marriage. She again disregards him when he offers to assist her with her reelection campaign.

I do think it's funny how two years later she replaced Oscar with a man that was willing to give up his career and his dreams to be her quiet little husband. She just wants a "Yes, dear." man rather than someone that would actually have opinions. Like, that just seals the deal. She can't handle anyone being on her level, she just has to be above everyone else. Alex says that he thinks it was a little messed up of his dad to run for the senate seat in Cali as soon as he got divorced but I don't think it was messed up at all. He'd put a hold on his dreams for decades, I think that he did the right thing.

Thank you for coming to my TED talk. I'm 100% an Oscar Diaz stan until the day that I die. I think it's very telling that he has a stronger bond with June rather than Alex. Ellen is a bad person :)

From the start of one of my Fandom Trumps Hate fics. The prologue is both in past tense (challenge!) and in Ellen's POV (massive challenge!) To be clear, neither of these were a requirement of my incredible bidder—I apparently just decided to make life really difficult for myself with the ✨ vision ✨ I had for a prologue before we jump into adult Alex's POV in present tense lmfao.

[Oscar's mom] had been right, of course: Catalina June Claremont-Diaz had slipped into the world on a balmy October evening after a textbook labour and delivery. By eight weeks, she’d been sleeping almost through the night—which Ellen quickly learned not to complain to other new moms about, even if it did mean Catalina was completely uninterested in sleeping during the day, making it impossible to get anything done. She told them who she was, she told them what she needed, and Ellen learned to listen.
