Reasons why I had to put the duel from chapter 4 of the WIP into a separate, new chapter, exhibit A: This is the duel, now in chapter 5. Just the duel. I didn't even add any of the other stuff that's supposed to happen in this chapter yet.

Currently reading my second LGBT fantasy/sci-fi book of the year. I'm really enjoying it so far, though I'm only a few chapters in. I don't really read much YA anymore, but I don't regret picking this one up (it's on KU, for those subscribed!). It really feels like reading an action adventure manga, but as a book. The playing card thematics are fun, and the setup, like in a lot of good manga, is quite intriguing. Leaving a quote and a summary of the book below!

I hope you don't mind a question like this- if it's no good feel free to ignore but. Like. I keep thinking P03 is not as bad a person as people/the game tries to make him out to be- he's not irredeemable, anyway. Just blunt, forward, insecure, etc. He doesn't hurt the other scrybes when he gets control of the game(even though he has every reason to hold a grudge and could probably do any number of things) he doesn't hurt YOU at any point I can recall, shows feeling/passion/concern at multiple points through his dialogue... what I can't reconcile is his mistreatment of npcs/his subordinates. Like the James Cobb experiments, "tell them to throw themselves on the line", total policing of Rebecha/the Dredger's dialogue, only giving the Dredger a few lines before shutting him up... do you have any thoughts on that?

You're ABSOLUTELY right about him not being as bad as everyone makes him out to be. And obviously he's not a perfect guy, he's done his share of horrible things, but like...none of the other scrybes are exactly good people either. OLD_DATA fucked all of them up for the worse.

It's just that the game frames P03 to be the worst of the bunch, because he wanted more than what he had.

   Extending  a  hand  to  the  other,  Yuma  offered  the  boy  a  warm  smile.

It's kind of a surprise, though not an unwelcome one, to show up and not have the biggest damn dog at the dog park for once. Honestly, Keith is kind of impressed- his own Great Pyrenees was already pretty hefty clocking in at over 100lbs, and he thought that was a lot of work. He'd swear whatever breed this was was double that at least. Someone’s got their hands full for sure.

He unclipped Barry, watching a moment to make sure there wasn't any issue with the other dogs. Kind of funny, he seemed to already gravitate towards the fellow mass of white fur. Kindred spirits, Keith supposed. And speaking of, he made quick assessments of the other owners as he made his way over, trying to gauge who exactly could have a cool-ass dog like that. 

…Not that he's really intending to socialize here. The fringe of the group is where he preferred to settle, still stealing the occasional glance over in his solo game of Guess Who. Too young, too scrawny, not her, maybe him-? Somebody here’s got good taste, and he’s just kinda curious as to who.

From the moment he had stepped foot in this new city, seemingly all he had heard anything about were these 'Duel Monsters' cards - people spoke of them casually on the street and even when watching television, he couldn't seem to avoid hearing about them! Tokyo had, of course, gone through its fair share of fads and trends, but after a time, his eventual attitude was always the same.

If you can't beat 'em, join 'em.

That attitude was what had brought him to this store - a store of seemingly no significance or importance, just the closest one nearby to him. The store itself seemed modest enough, offering an assortment of several different merchandise, such as figures and model kits - but what had immediately drawn his attention was the display case full of card packs!

he's covered in motor oil now, but the d-wheel is looking better for sure. ❝ i find that with love and a steady effort, the goodness in someone's heart can be drawn out. and if not that, then through a duel- that's always a good way to find the best of someone! ❞
