I don't know anything about martial arts myself, aside from the minescule taekwondo I did in middle school and which i barely remember, but from the descriptions you gave these seem like really fitting styles for them to use.

Mari's style fits her very well I feel. The complex dance and music related style seems like something she'd gravitate towards. I also like how it pairs well with Hero's style aswell, since they both empathize defense and retaliation (since Capoeira is focused on fighting while outnumbered and Jeet Kune Do is focused on the concept of interception) rather then instigation.

Basil's style caught me off guard and, is a funny choice out of context, but I can see it working for his character. His nervousness and uncertainty used as an advantage rather then a weakness. [I'm playing through the game with a friend who follows me on this tumblr and is going in blind so I can't discuss how else it fits but I do catch that aswell lmao]

All of these are fantastic choices for each character and the explanations are greatly appreciated.

Had a moment like this recently.

I was invited to a women's singing and music group for Capoeria (Mulheres na musica) external to my usual capoeria classes.

Group is to empower women to sing better when we play capoeria and to learn to play the instruments (Mainly Berimbau and Pandero).

And my professora invited me, didn't even think anything of it just invited. It felt so affirming because Capoeria is a martial art and all the male ego that comes with that. Setting foot in the dojo in the first place as a trans person was a lot...

I messaged my professora afterwards and thanked her for the invite saying that other hobbies I have had were weird about me being trans in "thier space" Mainly 40k players...

She sent me this reply

"Of course, Arco-íris! Everyone picks their own happy, and it's a pleasure to have you and see how dedicated you are! Good to have you on the team e hoa!"

I CRIED!!!

I think, out of every style I've seen, Capoeira is my favorite martial art. Even just through its concept of blending fighting and dance together into one.

There's just something about using artistic media, like music and dance and the like, in physically offensive or defensive ways that'll always get to me.
