#capitalism wants us to monetize our passions

i find it slightly amusing that despite my obvious passion for the "old web" and my own personal indie web projects, i actually am frustrated with a large portion of the whole webcore nostalgia thing...
i'm assuming it's because there's a lot of younger people who are enamored with the internet from before they could have really interacted with it, but they can really glorify the old internet way too much to an almost harmful degree. spreading the idea that "all our problems would be solved if we just went back to how things used to be!" is extremely misguided considering the way the old internet worked isn't compatible with the modern size and scope of the internet + the internet has always been dictated by money (even if the grip of capitalism has tightened its fists in recent years even more) and we cannot simply go back to desktop-only sites with a complete lack of accessibility options to fix all our problems. imagining a better internet is going to take a lot of work from a lot of people and probably the dismantling of capitalism to at least some degree, which is a really, really unfortunate truth.
at the same time though, i don't feel poorly towards any of these people, teens or not. there are aspects of the old internet that i do miss severely. i hate how social media forces everyone's profiles to look the same, for example. it is extremely difficult to be human on the web and self-express. the desperation to be loud and colorful and express ourselves digitally can be seen in young people's carrds dotted with anime characters and lists of their interests. i hate how pretty much the only way to get your artwork, music, writing, etc seen is through the hellfire that is social media, and how we are all pressured to monetize our hobbies through that social media. i hate how big the internet is now, because i can't escape the constant barrage of news headlines and social media posts ruining my mental health by overloading me with information my human brain was never meant to handle. i could go on forever. i get the feeling.
it makes sense that people would want to look back to when things were a little happier for the common user on the web, when things were slower, smaller, and more expressive, especially while living through such rough times. and of course, obviously, reblogging aesthetic posts or saying "i miss the old internet" isn't a massive moral statement on the state of the internet and where it needs to go... but i encourage anyone who's into internet nostalgia stuff to care about and put effort towards a better internet, one that takes the good parts of the old web and the good parts of the modern web and turns them into something new, because we can't just go back to fix all our problems. but even if there's not much you can do, you can bring back that spark and that feeling by making a neocities page or something, joining a small community, etc... while it's not a full replacement for that empty ache in our hearts, it certainly scratches the itch and makes me feel a little better about my complex internet feelings. try to have a little fun and make a space for yourself in this modern internet we call home

Hi, I was wondering how you and other fic authors would feel about this project to create a “goodreads for fic”
https://twitter.com/damnitdanaaa/status/1560399515877875712?s=20&t=zJLGrQMN57tQie7wWCD0fA
Hiya, love!
(Apologies if I sound fired up, this isn’t directed at you. 😘 it’s just something I feel passionate about.)
I understand that the intention behind this is good, but I really don’t know that there’s an added value to this concept. As far as I know, Goodreads is a platform used as an index of all published books and their synopses, to rate and review literature, and I suppose, share what you’re reading with others who might have the same tastes, right? (If there’s anything more than that, please let me know.)
Most of those things we already have a system for: AO3 serves as our index, has a bookmarks function, allows for comments and kudos. Fic recommendations are a little less mutualized, scattered across social media platforms, but it works.
Other than the fact that I don’t know if a Goodreads for fic is technically legal, given fic uses intellectually protected characters, I still don’t agree with the concept of publicly rating fic and having “reviews” (good or bad) written about them, mostly because that’s directly countering fanfic’s purpose and everything that’s so great about it.
Fanfic as a whole was never meant to be a commodity that was monetized or capitalized. It’s born solely out of the author’s will to create it, nothing else. That’s why it doesn’t ascribe to any marketing or publishing limitations or trends — there’s no ideal word count, there’s no ideal mix of tropes, there’s no such thing as too much or too little smut (we also don’t have it water down smut to “spice”), and while there are statistics like kudos, hits, and comments, those numbers don’t define anything for creators, ie. they don’t actually dictate what you should or shouldn’t write.
And that’s the main (and arguably, the only) difference between fic and published literature: their objective. Fic’s goal isn’t quantity (in fact, I would argue, it’s not even quality, even if the quality of fic is on par or better than a lot of published fiction). It’s sole goal l creative expression, and that means inclusion, that means rare kinks, that means embracing everything weird and often, unmarketable.
Creating an app that allows people to firmly express their preferences in fic via a rating system and reviews messes with that culture. It muddles the objective of fic, because authors can’t help but react to trends when they’re forced to, can’t be impervious to negative comments, can’t create solely for expression when they’re being influenced by the public. (Think of the way Instagram completely changed the culture of amateur photography.) Hell, it’s hard enough to keep creating when every now and again unsolicited “constructive criticism” on fic appears, imagine what it would be like to give people permission to voice that unsolicited criticism on fics that weren’t even created for them, but rather solely for the author’s creative well-being and shared with them.
If authors want to write within the lines and limitations of published literature, if they wanted their work to be, not only a form of expression but also marketed and marketable, then they would channel their efforts into getting published. If people want literature that’s reflective of the trends, and the masses’ preferences, it’s already available, in a bookstore. 😉

The Journey of The Tarot Haiku
XI: Justice - Laws
Today's post will be about the legal aspects of Kindle Direct Publishing, or what I did in the course of signing up and self-publishing my book.
First, I printed out the entire user agreement, which was like seven pages in teeny tiny font. It didn't tell me about every single thing that I needed to know to publish, but it did allow me to ascertain the following:
how massive Amazon's influnce is over the content, which is where Kindle Create becomes crucial in order for your manuscript to look the way you want it to (I imagine that otherwise submitting something less formatted will undergo formatting for ebook or print that could possibly make the manuscript fall to pieces);
how public domain works are not eligible for Kindle Select, and Tarot was indeed considered public domain, so I could ignore those parts entirely now.
The rest I was fairly familiar with from work experience, so I could proceed to link a bank account and figure out taxation - which was thankfully easier than I first thought it might be, I answered the questions and it figured out the rest, so to speak.
Pretty much everything else on the rules of how to publish I got from KDP's different guidelines and from searching for other people's articles to cross-check what I was doing. The copyright came from following formats that aligned with what I was aiming for, for instance.
I think that's it for the genuinely legal side of it, because I didn't go for a pen name on account of it sounding rather difficult, and not knowing what I ought to do about copyrighting it. Everything of this sort is often written with Americans in mind, and I'm Hungarian, so I kept asking myself, does this apply to me? Is that how I should be doing this despite being based in a different country? And in the end I dropped it. There is a wealth of articles on the subject, but few are straightforwardly helpful, so be prepared to read a lot of filler.
As for the rest... be prepared for the laws of capitalism to have Instagram in their clutches. 99% of my interactions there so far have been with people desperate to promote or review my book for a fee. I did pay for a bit of advertising on there, but I would not call it a pleasant experience: I'm sure they are rendering a service that has the potential to be helpful, and I hope to everything that it will, but it is very clear that everyone on Instagram is marketing themselves very desperately, and when you say you cannot afford to pay them, which is completely true, I'm not a multi-millionaire turning starving orphans from my door but a single person who is losing their job to funds drying up everywhere, people can get bitter. And all I can do is sit there and empathize. It is terrible that nowadays we feel forced or compelled in some other way to monetize everything about us, including our hobbies or passions. When I turned down a reviewer, he typed, "okay bye flop author" in response, then deleted it in a hurry, and first I laughed, but then I sat there thoughtful and sad, not because it was an insult that could hurt me, but because it genuinely felt frustrated and bitter, and I wished for better things for both of us. I was not prepared to find this much hunger and desperation on Instagram, but it is out there. I wonder if anyone talks about it much amid all the glitter and glamor everyone is trying to project, and which itself is becoming sort of terrifying to me. The more I look at Instagram videos, the less I want to ever make videos. I guess you could say it's sort of a lawless land of shilling, and I can't even blame those who are genuinely desperate. I'm one of them after all.
If you love Tarot, consider checking out my book or telling others it exists. It would be lovely to talk to people who love Tarot.

rant
I cant believe its almost 2023 and theres still this huge aggression between paid cc and free cc with some people??? I just saw someone cussing someone else out over making paid cc (and later posting how bullying simmers is bad, cant make this up)
I just wanted to write my thoughts for my own sanity because its beyond me how people can pretend this entire thing is anything but a capitalist nightmare
CC isnt a necessity.
If someone creates something, its their right to put a price on it. (i dont care what ea says, they scam us every release they put out & dont care)
It doesnt matter if you think the content is shitty or lazy, thats subjective and as soon as we say "i can decide if someone elses work has worth &what theyre allowed to get for it" we get into a capitalist nightmare (how many of us are paid too little cause our job isnt "skillful" or "worth" much to capitalisms eyes?)
Until we have actually affordable health care, fair job pay, homes that arent optional but a basic right and many other issues are fixed, people wont have the luxury to choose to create everything for free, passion or not, so you can have the luxury of having all the shiny pixel items you want. You cant pretend this isnt our reality.
Somehow EVERYONE wants the art, the mods, the content, but somehow it doesnt have worth, Its not allowed to have worth.
Somehow EVERYONE is entitled to other people working for free, being content machines for us, for free? Why?
What did we do to entitle us to other peoples free labour? To DEMAND free labour from others? Why is it ok to guilt and shame others into providing things for free to us?????
Everyone acknowledges this as being an awful capitalist thing in any workplace, yet with creative works people act like its somehow good and actually very for the people to demand free labour. For what people? You? how is it socialist to tear down fellow people when the core issue is the government creating a reality where everyone is pushed to monetize everything they do because the price of survival is unbelievably high. Why is it ok to sell resell goods as a small shop, but if you sell YOUR OWN custom content youre somehow people hating scum???
Noone is forcing anyone to buy CC. Its ok to not have the funds and its ok to not want to pay!
But that doesnt give any of us the right to demand free labour off of others, just like other people arent entitled to anything weve made, for free, just because they want it. And other people arent entitled to tell us to simply not create things then if we dont want to give them away for free...Like seriously.
And honestly, i wish more creators felt like they were allowed to ask for $ for things they create. Its NOT dirty, you made this! (not talking conversions etc bc that involves someone elses labour too)
Because without them, that content doesnt exist. And if i want to see more of their content, im down to support them when i can to hopefully make it a bit easier to spare the time to create, in this hellscape of an economy.
Its supporting fellow people, not corporations for fs sake.
Content doesnt exist without its Creators.
and those creators live in the same society we do

Release the Outcome
Yesterday, I applied for a full-time job working for the library system of the city that I live in (my other job is one city over). I probably won’t hear back from them until after August 2nd, because that is when the posting comes down. This works perfectly for me, though, because I really do not want to leave my current position until the new people are more settled. It could be a long shot; I applied to library jobs in my city before and have never been selected for an interview. I also know that I limit my opportunities by only applying for jobs in one section (out of 6) of the city, but my only other economically reasonable option is also applying at the downtown branch and I cannot see my anxiety-ridden self making that drive daily.
My main goal right now is to just keep pursuing opportunities while remaining detached from the outcome. I am tentatively looking into more volunteer opportunities, but nothing is jumping out at me. Sometimes, I think about the types of volunteer positions that would look better on a resume, or help to give me “marketable skills  or “build identity capital” but my boyfriend scolded me about that and encouraged me to just volunteer for whatever I care about, regardless of whether it will benefit me in the workplace. He is right. I have been so caught up in the hustle culture (albeit more focused on academics) that I have started to lose sight of what is important. We need to be able to strike a balance between working to survive and achieve things we genuinely want and being work-obsessed.
I realize that in my position, even as a neurodivergent and marginalized person, I hold incredible privilege. Friends and family have helped support me financially, and although it will be going away in a few years (or very soon, depending on my income), I receive assistance from the government in the form of my SSDI.  It is both temporary and not nearly enough by itself to survive on in a city like this, but it provides something to fall back on, and has enabled me to work part-time while pursuing my education.
As far as education goes, I know that my original goal to complete my COREs (gaining my Associate in the Arts in the process) can still be completed next year, but I am going to just observe myself and how I am feeling. It is likely that I will be working full-time by then, and if that happens, goodbye SSDI. That is ultimately the goal—and there would be a way to restart benefits if I fell into a rough patch—but that would mean keeping a decent job would take even higher priority than before. I was a part-time—sometimes full-time—student before and a part-time worker, but then I would be a full-time worker and part-time student. My disability does not allow me to go to both work and attend school full-time; many healthy people can’t even manage that, and it is not recommended by instructors.
Ultimately, though, these plans are very tentative. I have really been reevaluating what I want and why I want it. I have always loved writing. To me, turning what I loved into a career seemed like a no-brainer, but now, I can see that I always hesitated. I took a detour and went to school for music instead of just getting an Associate in the Arts (with the goal of transferring to a university to get my BA in English). Do you know what studying music for four years did for my passion for learning about and creating music? It utterly killed it. I had all the knowledge, but now I had no drive to create. I am only now starting to record little demos and play with concepts over a year later.
I can see now that I have been afraid of getting similarly burned out on writing. Yes, there is some element of being afraid that I am not a good enough writer to make a career in editing, publishing, and writing. Those fears are rather faint and distant; I am mostly confident in my writing ability. What I am seeing now, is that we live in a society that encourages us to monetize our passions, and that might not be healthy. On Adventures in Roommating, Meghan Tonjes and Keith Battista talked about being careful about making the thing you love into the thing you depend on to survive. I used to be perplexed about my youngest sister’s decision not to pursue culinary arts as a career, even though she loved it so much, but I can see that maybe she had a lot more wisdom than I do. Maybe we should hold our passions a little more sacred to ourselves. Maybe 2+ years of reading boring 1800s literature and churning out essay after soulless essay for picky English teachers just so I can have an English degree is not what I need to be doing. It doesn’t mean that I’ve “given up on my dreams”. Capitalism will extract value from you in any way that it can, but you can say, “No, this is mine.”
So many amazing writers majored in things other than English. So many English majors started off in other fields. Po Bronson, author of What Should I Do with My Life?, was told by teachers that his writing was so poor that he would never succeed as a writer. His proficiencies were in math and science. My own English teacher— one of the best teachers I have ever had—started off as a pharmacy tech.
My “back-up” plan if I was not able to succeed in writing, editing, publishing, or journalism, was to go to school and get my Master’s in Library Science. Working in libraries is a happy medium for me. It is not my absolute favorite thing to do, but I like it enough that I would not mind working in or around libraries for the foreseeable future. Some people say that the library field is shrinking, but that is not the whole truth; libraries are evolving, and the people that work in them are needing to be more flexible and to have greater variety in their skillset. Being a school librarian also means being adept with media; a reference librarian might also assist with writing grants, ordering books, or budgeting. Jobs are largely becoming more automated, but people who work in libraries are often required to supervise these systems and make sure that everything is working smoothly.
Maybe that “back-up plan” would be a lot better as a “main plan.” There are plenty of library jobs that just require a Bachelor’s. There is great flexibility in what my Bachelor’s degree can be, so now I have to be like “what would complement my Master’s the most, but still be a ton of fun?” I might as well enjoy whatever I am studying, and to be honest, I do not always enjoy English classes. If you have a great teacher, the hard work always feels worthwhile, but a persnickety, nit-picking teacher can turn the experience into a living hell. I do not want to see my love for writing turn into hatred. Yes, it would be great to “be a writer”, but I already am. I do not need a degree to confer that title on to me. I would also just love to explore writing conventions on my own, take independent classes, and continue blogging. I want to network with other writers and see if we can spark off some new ideas.
I could even just be undeclared for a while (AUDIBLE GASP) and just see what speaks to me. I could go to a smaller school that is closer to me. Once the time comes, I can move where I want to move without feeling under pressure to move closer to campus. I can take my sweet time with classes. In fact, if I get a good enough job, they may just pay for me to get my Master’s and that would be lovely.
You can have it all and still be miserable; I think we millennials, who are wrought with anxiety, student debt, and underemployment understand that more than others. We have been fed this lie about working hard and “making it”, and we are utterly disenchanted with the status quo. We are always questioning our identities. We ask ourselves “Is this it?” and we are always looking for meaning and purpose in our lives.
My 20s are almost at a close, so my “quarter-life crisis” is going to need to wrap up soon. If I learned anything from my 20s, it is that so much can change, and that a lot of the things you worry about now will be non-issues down the line. Relationships of all types come and go and people and situations evolve and shift. In fact, you probably experience the most changes in your life in your 20s, and you are laying the foundation for who you will be down the line. Your brain is not even fully developed out of adolescence until you are 25. So, while you are considered an adult in the eyes of the law, there is a reason why you still engaged in a lot of childish bullshit in your early twenties. Not to mention that if you have a mental illness or experienced trauma as a child, you can become “developmentally arrested” (I don’t have a good specific source on this one sorry, but look up “arrested development psychology” and there will be lots of interesting articles.).
Look, growing up, or as we say, “adulting”, is very difficult. As more of us are staying home and/or still financially dependent on our parents or other family members, it is hard to truly feel like we own our own lives. Ultimately, though, we never know how things will change. We just need to keep exploring new opportunities. Don Estell said, “If it doesn’t work, try something different.” It may feel like you have tried everything, but the only other alternative is to give up. Don’t do that. Don’t relentlessly pursue achievement at the expense of your mental health, but do not lose hope. Take a break, dust yourself off, then get back out there.
You will find a way, I promise.

so basically simblr is dead because capitalism
This might be controversial but in the past few months, I’ve noticed that simblr as a community spends a lot more time calling out creators for paywalling their cc and not enough time asking why which, in my opinion, is a huge oversight on our part. I’m not saying we should stop holding these creators accountable nor am I trying to excuse them, i just want to give some insight on what I believe is a larger societal problem with productivity culture and capitalism in general. In the past few years, there’s been this growing idea that in order for a hobby to be a worthwhile use of your time, you have to turn it into a hustle. If there’s a thing you enjoy, monetize it. It’s been drilled into our minds that if we aren’t actively making money, we’re being lazy and bad. This inevitably causes people to begin to resent their hobbies and lose the spark that made them love it in the first place. I think that this is why simblr feels so dead to a lot of people and why a lot of bigger creators lose their passion for the sims go on long hiatuses- the pressure to turn our love of this game into something that makes us money. I'm not saying to stop monetizing your creations, nor am i trying to criticize creators who put their content up for early access, I have no problem with that morally, but I do think it can be somewhat dangerous for your own mental health and accounts for a lot of the burnout we're seeing on simblr. The thing about simblr (and social media in general) is that notes and overall recognition can feel like another form of currency, so even if you don’t monetize your content, you’re likely to feel this pressure. If your post gets a lot of notes, that means it’s a Good Post, and the time you spent was justified. You were productive! If it doesn’t, it’s a Bad Post, and your work isn’t worth anything after all. To any simmer reading this, your love of the sims is valid and should be celebrated no matter whether or not you're making money from it or if it gets a lot of notes or none at all. To any simmer reading this, your love of the sims is valid and should be celebrated no matter whether or not you're making money from it. you dont have to justify the way you spend your time and something doesn't have to be productive to be worthwhile. i'm curious to see what ya'll think about this take, especially @xldkx, who has a wonderful post ab the death of the simblr community that i recommend you check out if you havent already!

The Divine Hustle
Do the hustle(!)
Tumblr media
Working yourself to the death has never been so glamours!
To live in America is to play by the business savvy handbook. America has never been a country of a wholesome omniloving God, instead the USA has always been the land of fleeced pockets. Much of America has fetishized the concept of “Hard Work” from the Puritantical Protestants to the Bootstrap pulling fantasia sprung from the Industrial Age. Some business CEOs even go as far to reinvent history by putting the word “Hustle” into Abraham Lincoln’s mouth:
“Things may come to those who wait … but only the things left by those who hustle.”
Tumblr media
An actual quote from our Hardest Working President Business
Yes, Lincoln the original Tall King, the first Presidential White Saviour, a Myth  more than Man, the living embodiment of a Pull Yourself By the Bootstraps Aesop fable. He needed that stove pipe hat to hide his vast quantity of hustle. I can see why a Business CEO type would be tickled by this fake quote. Lincoln’s legal work had him making more money at times than that of a prominent State Governor. There are reasons why he’s a Money Man. So tell me, Encyclopedia Britannica why would Lincoln feel the drive to accumulate this money and capital? Does it stem from Abraham Lincoln’s insecurities and low self-esteem from coming from a low income background? EB offers us none such info but it does lean heavily into Mary Todd Lincoln being a questionable influence on Lincoln. The EB is quick to file MTL as being the Insane, Difficult Woman who has developed an “obsessive need to spend money.” Of course, Lincoln had to make all of this money in order to pay for his expensive crazy wife. Makes perfect sense if I am someone completely stoned and drunk from hagiography and cute, quaint reductive views of history.
Lincoln’s business  savviness is made abundantly clear in his failed presidential campaign against Douglas. He published personally curated debate transcripts and his own Biography to hawk on the campaign trail. The acute self-awareness of his own remarkableness is perhaps one of Lincoln’s  main shortcomings and strengths. The man worked himself into a frenzy, constantly looked emaciated and worn down, and for what? The one few times he tries to take in one of his only pleasures in life, The Arts, he gets murdered. The Capitalist Mythmakers want us to forget about all of that. Abraham Lincoln worked because he loved to work and he was a good American, therefore if you want to be a good American like Lincoln,  you’ll work the Hustle.
Yes, this essay has been nothing but the ramblings of someone pretending like they know what they are talking about, but everytime I see the word “Hustle,” exclusively when it’s being used in terms of celebrating hyper capitalist America another part of me dies.

Tumblr media
Wow, the people look meaningless from up here.
The New York Hustle. The Detroit Hustle. To do these hustles once meant finding a dancing partner for the night and telling the 4/4 rhythm, “4 steps are fine, but six steps are even better.” Now the New York Hustle is working three unpaid internships with the promise that a slightly underpaid gig could be on the way. All language inevitAbly changes and evolves, but that doesn’t mean I  have to be okay about it. The modern hustle is the joy killer. The modern hustle is pushing and shoving fellow hustlers over the faint whiff of dining room scraps. To hustle is to continue to believe in your own self mythology so hard that you too can become your personal Lincoln. An emaciated, husk working for the Good of the Company, er, I mean Nation. Maybe a scuzzy Matthew McConaughey will give you a spin. That’s sure to make any hard worker smile before she collapses.

Tumblr media
Have you ever seen a side hustle news filler story that didn’t make you want to walk into a murky ocean’s depths? One Google “News” search of the term hustle brings up this article about a New Zealand Woman supposedly planning slumber parties during Covid times. One can only assume that this is the case because the article (sourced from the highly reputable looking Stuff.co) despite being published in February 2021 makes no reference to the pandemic. This is because New Zealand has already moved well beyond those covid days. Covid slumber party nightmares aside, the idea of hiring a professional slumber party planner in or out of Covid times is a brazenly gross idea. The extent of “planning” that should go into a slumber party is how much should you tip the pizza delivery driver, how many boxes of brownie mix, and maybe the one job I could jokingly fathom hiring a person for is choosing what regrettable movie a kid should watch at a slumber party.
Slumber parties are for children, and can easily be planned and arranged by a child. There should never be a need to outsource “Harrypotter glam” themed teepees and treats. Maybe that’s the kind of life people in New Zealand want to lead and if certain individuals want to have that ambitious drive to make a ridiculous small company they should be free to do so. The sinister creeping reality is that the standards of the Exceptional Money Making Individual are becoming the standards everyone is expected to live up to. Passion  for the sake of passion, and art for the sake of art is getting the squeeze in favor of monetizing slumber parties.
Monetizing off of Twitter followers. Monetizing off of newsletters. Monetizing off of podcasts. Content creation for the sake of profit is basically the main reason the Internet exists anymore.  If you have something you love to do in your life like the act of reading a book you better be willing to invest in a USB microphone and recording booth to start your audio book reading career because otherwise you’re just reading a book. You’re just playing a video game when you could be streaming yourself for all of your adoring fans and followers. I could be thinking, but instead I’m tweeting.
I do not respect the Hustle. I respect differences and a variety of lifestyles. I respect Passion and drive. I do not respect the Hustle, because the side hustle is just  a full-time job the capitalist system is trying to make you consider a “side” project. One look at this exhaustive CNBC “The ultimate side hustle guide for 2021”, and what they are describing is not a side hustle but starting your own small business. They are not the same thing. A side hustle should not require an immense amount of time, personal wealth, and the possible necessity of hiring a freelancer and tax analysts to start when you are already working a full-time job and/or participating in the American Breeding Dream.
I know that I am lazy compared to many over working Americans. I am already in my late twenties and still staunchly refuse to engage in American Adult Tie Sensitive Checklist. I would like to work, truly I do. I would love nothing more than to be in possession of a job in a safe and humane company that legitimately favored Human Kindness and Decency over the Grind. Working for a company that didn’t feel like the sole purpose of its existence is to make more and more money.. I am trying to minimize. I am trying not to let other people’s perceptions clutter and crowd out my mind. I am trying to survive through this pandemic that has completely melted what little brains and physical strength I had. I will not stop trying to do the Divine Hustle.
Let’s just appreciate this blurry picture of Divine being eaten by a lobster and call it a day.

The Truth About Agent Zip
The Truth About Agent Zip
So, you’re looking to make organic growth in your real estate online lead game. Meaning you want more people to visit your social media, you want your website to get more traffic and convert leads for you. Why would you get involved with a real estate lead generation company like Agent Zip? It’s pretty simple, actually, and you have to think long term.
If you wanted to grow those platforms organically, you’re going to have a lot to learn. Spending plenty of time and energy, maybe you go to some classes or seminars; or maybe you hire out that task. If you hire it out, we can agree that the outcome won’t be as quality because that paid hand isn’t going to do it with the heart and passion that you would, since it’s your real estate business. If you commit to doing it yourself, from the information you gather, you might implement 10-20% of those things right away, and you’ll have your ebbs and flows.
Well, in the meantime, what are you doing to generate leads?
Agent Zip  is a well rounded, multifaceted, marketing research company, and we teach what we know works. We really dedicate our energy and profit into research and development for lead generation. Every time you get a lead, we get better at generating them.
Not only that, but we strive to bring value wherever we go. So, we will teach you what we’ve mastered so that you can be successful. Why would we want to share how we make our money, and do what we do? Well, since we innovate faster than lightning, we don’t mind sharing our “secrets” with our AgentZip family.  We believe there’s no such thing as secrets anyways. As soon as someone solves a problem or makes a breakthrough, more likely than not, it will be on Youtube in the next 90 days. It’s also common knowledge that very few people are action takers. So, ultimately we don’t feel any danger or pressure from giving out those “secrets”. Lastly, we are teaching you the stuff we know works, and we’re already moving past it.
When you join Agent Zip, you get access to our Mastermind Facebook group, our trainings, and our intel. We are growing at such a rapid pace, we have new tricks and techniques we implement every three to six months. What have been doing in the past three to six months? Putting up our own capital, putting it at risk, to figure out the latest and greatest techniques for generating online leads. Don’t worry, you’re not behind the curve, we’re just ahead of the game. Why are not teaching that? We still have to ensure that those techniques are fool proof, because we only want to set you up for success; leave the trial and error to us.
In the next three to six months, we’ll be rolling out new products, along with new tips and tricks for you to take advantage of.
We provide the most exclusive, motivated, and convertible leads out there. Your investment really comes full circle. You are investing in your immediate business, by investing in us and our leads; but by investing in us, you’re investing back into your business long-term, because you’re funding the research to make those leads even better in the future. There is no downside to joining the AgentZip family. You get more leads, more deals, more closings, and the party never ends. AgentZip is the lead machine you need, because we’re committed to more than just leads.
So, you want to know the truth about AgentZip? It’s accurate that we provide the best leads. But the truth is: Agent Zip is so much more than a lead generation company. We are a research and development company for lead generation, and push the envelope for the lead generation industry as a whole, and that’s what makes us different. Our dedication to our craft never ends. We never stop growing, innovating, and sharing. Come see what we’re all about, by checking out our website, filling out the form, and one of our fantastic sales reps can school you a little bit more about what we do here, and why we’re the best.

Alex Summers, after the most recent of 128979889...
Why don’t you write Marvel? You couldn’t possibly do any worse and I could use the laughs!
Lol, its a nice dream, but realistically I don’t think there’s any universe in which Marvel would ever let me write the X-Men.
Like, my very first story would probably have Bobby refreezing the Arctic while Storm heads up a team of elementals to combat climate change. And then a Republican senator and a Democrat senator would go on TV and make a bipartisan show of expressing their gratitude towards mutants for helping save the planet and this is the real future of humanity, this is them all building a world where they can live side by side in a mutually beneficial -
And then the broadcast would cut off because Cypher just hacked every satellite worldwide and said “all your binary codes belong to me now, resistance is futile, blah blah” before turning the camera to Sunspot who’s all decked out in his snazziest suit and dressed to the nines. Roberto yawns and flips the whole world off and says “LOL fuck you, the X-Men are done with respectability politics, we took a vote and our democratic process actually works, we don’t have a fucking electoral college. We only saved the planet because it happens to be the planet we live on, dipshits, nobody did it for you, you’re still cordially invited to go extinct. Or you can play nice and try getting along with the rest of us for a change but good luck trying to make Sentinels happen again, lmao, funding’s gonna be an issue for you pretty soon I think.”
He turns off the camera and goes back to planning his and Sam’s wedding, because look, I have my priorities, okay.
Then Mystique unleashes her new Fellowship of Evil (Same Name, But This Time Its Evil as in STFU, Its Ironic U Assholes) Mutants that she’s been recruiting from the ranks of the young and disenchanted. Overnight, the market is flooded with gold and gems transmuted from ordinary materials by mutant powers, as well as a bunch of shit ‘liberated’ from the coffers of the 1% via her Fellowship’s alliance with her son-in-law’s Thieves’ Guild. Value plummets instantly, and then technopaths join in the fun, crashing every banking system worldwide.
“Whoopsie, I broke capitalism, money’s worthless now, vive la revolution, everyone eat some fucking cake,” Raven sing-songs merrily from the chaise she’s lounging on while eating grapes. The city outside her window is burning. Meanwhile, a fiddler is playing nearby. She calls him Nero, because Aesthetic.
“Oh relax,” she rolls her eyes when Remy attempts to frown at her disapprovingly. “I had my teleporters evacuate the city before I set it on fire. I’m not a heartless monster, you know.”
“You mean you didn’t want to spend the next ten years dealing with your children yelling at you about innocent civilians and how could you,” Remy says dryly.
Mystique just shrugs and eats some more grapes. “Or that.”
Far-right dominated police forces and white supremacist militia groups attempt to forcibly establish martial law, except mostly they’re just standing around clutching their heads and trying to cope with the mother of all migraines as a gestalt of telepathic minds headed up by a Cerebro-powered octet of Jean, Emma, Betsy, Rachel, Quentin, and the Stepford Cuckoos psychically screams FAKE NEWS!!! into their brains every time their CO’s attempt to bark out new orders.
“Best school project ever,” Quire shouts. Emma smirks.
“Extra credit to the first person to psychically leak the full extent of just how extensively governments have invaded their citizens’ privacy with surveillance extremism in the name of national security.”
Jean attempts a half second of chastisement, but with them all linked this closely, there’s really no way to hide that she’s mostly just amused. Oh no, she and Emma are seeing eye to eye on something and there are witnesses and everything. The revolution was a mistake.
Atlanteans and mutant hydrokinetics team up to shove the worst oil and toxic waste and trash spills up onto the shores of every beach marked ‘privately owned’. The mile-wide ‘island’ of plastic debris that formerly sat in the middle of the Pacific is now parked off the coast of Malibu.
There’s a twenty foot demon from Limbo sitting in the Oval Office. It burps. Illyana beams and boops its nose. “Good boy.” It wags its tail and breaks the Oval Office.
Kitty and Kurt direct teams of similarly powered mutants in raiding the top secret R&D facilities of major pharmaceutical companies for all their research on diseases that never made it to mass production because they decided those treatments or cures wouldn’t be profitable in the long run because healthy people don’t need to spend a ton of money on medical care. Teams of healers are standing by to vet the viability of various research, while Hank, Cece and other mutant geniuses are already working on filling in the gaps on all the projects that were shutdown and Forge, Madison Jeffries and tech-based geniuses are converting existing infrastructure into the necessary machinery to take over mass production of these drugs, prosthetics, and sweatshop labor in general.
Speedsters and teleporters are redistributing food and stocking up the millions of properties worldwide that have just been sitting there empty for god knows how long, useless. Colossus is standing in the smashed remains of a mansion with his arms crossed sternly while a man who is definitely not meant to resemble the CEOs of either Tesla or Amazon or look like some kind of Musky Bozo hybrid cowers on the floor.
“You are a very stupid man,” Colossus says. “Why are you wasting billions funding research into space travel when there are aliens with a strong grasp of the technology in the ships that brought them here on every superhero team on Earth? You could have easily provided the Earth with working and widely accessible space travel by now if you weren’t so miserly.”
“Yeah,” Juggernaut says behind him, scratching his head. “Aliens have been coming and going from this planet for like fifty years. There are tons of fancy spaceships anyone could’ve just reverse engineered and mass produced by now. How come nobody’s ever done that and we’re all just acting like space travel is some far-off dream when everyone we know’s been to space like at least ten times?”
“Stupid people,” Colossus rumbles again. Musky Bozo wets himself and Piotr sighs and shakes his head. He didn’t even touch him.
Cyclops and Wolverine and their teams of bruisers are already done with the ICE facilities and have progressed to busting open prisons and liberating all nonviolent offenders. They inform everyone else that they can appeal to a panel of telepaths to read their minds and see for themselves that they’re innocent.
“Guilt determined by mind-reading?” Someone asks. “Lots of potential for sketchiness there.”
“Absolutely,” Scott says. “Which is why laws about boundaries and oversight have to be established. For now, its a volunteer basis only. Nobody has to get their mind read, but its an option available in the meanwhile as we sort out a better system for determining who’s been imprisoned for crimes of premeditated malice and abuse and who’s just been railroaded by an unjust and biased system.”
“So this is your new utopia, huh?” Sneers the prison warden, from the floor where he’s on his ass with a busted face because, idk, Reasons.
Scott just shakes his head. “No. It’s merely a start.”
“If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it, but if its broke and you wanna fix it, you gotta start somewhere,” Logan says gruffly. “Shit was broke. This is ‘starting somewhere.’”
He and Scott share a very Passionate look of camaraderie. Rogue sighs loudly.
“Just fuck already, jfc.”
Logan grunts. He already offered, but apparently all Personal Business must wait until after the Revolution was over, because a Scott Summers who put himself first was very clearly an impostor, so its not like Logan could even fucking get mad considering Scott putting in a pin in sucking each other’s faces after their We Were Both Dead But Now We’re Not and Also What the Fuck Was Up With Us For the Five Whole Years Before That reunion was what confirmed that it was definitely the Real Scott’s tongue in his mouth.
“Alright, let’s move it people,” Logan barks, clapping his hands. “There’s three more joints to hit before sundown. We got a timetable here.”
Jubilee squints at him suspiciously. “Since when are you efficient?”
“Mind your own fucking business.”
At no point does anyone suggest they erase the most sacred sites of all the world’s major religions and call them all fake or randomly resurrect a bunch of dinosaurs and release them on unsuspecting and innocent populations, because those are terrible ideas and make no sense and just because they’re stinkin’ commies now doesn’t mean they’re fucking morons.
Also, nobody grows a ridiculous beard or stops using shampoo or starts wearing flip flops or robes, because apparently those are not actually essential components of being a stinkin’ commie or even just a garden variety peace-aspiring socialist. They checked. Extensively. It was almost a dealbreaker. Emma, Monet and Roberto all threatened to side with the Capitalist Pigs if that was not thoroughly clarified before proceeding any further.
Thus ends my first issue. I email Marvel the script. They email it back, almost entirely redacted in red, with the note “This isn’t quite what we were looking for. Do you have anything about a new cure for mutants, maybe?”
I email them back: LOL NO. MAGNETO WAS RIGHT.
I am promptly fired.
I go back to ranting about how Marvel sucks on the internet.

Exploring Night Markets In Japan The Sunday Market (Nichiyo-ichi) in Kochi has a history of over 300 years and is held in the city heart about ten minutes on foot from the JR Kochi Station. Locally grown produce and dried seafood, kitchen and family goods can be discovered at the sunday market and avenue distributors also promote all kinds of prepared made delicacies, drawing locals and vacationers every week. Most shops focus on a specific sort of food and almost every thing sold out there is domestically produced and procured, making Nishiki Market a great place to seek out Kyoto specialties such as Japanese sweets, pickles and dried seafood. Shiogama Fish MarketThe Shiogama Fish Market is a wholesale seafood market open to the general public. Here in Japan, farmer's markets have been canceled since April 2020 or so, and I'm avoiding travel as much as attainable till I'm absolutely vaccinated. So, I thought it could be useful to put together an inventory of these farms in a single place so folks could peruse as they wished and find what they needed. One ingredient not listed within the Kansha recipe is the nukamisokarashi in the small inexperienced bag within the picture.
