controversial take but I see ppl catfighting about this a lot so I thought to throw my own coin here with my headcanons/interpretation:

I think Daemon's favorite child is 100% Aegon III. The man wanted a son for so very long. it makes sense that the favoritism would go there. Aegon is everything he had wanted. He lost the potential son Mysaria could give him, lost another son along with his second wife Laena, and finally got his wish with his final wife, Rhaenyra. I know there's the argument that "baela is his mini me so she'd be the apple of his eye" but eh, i never viewed baela as a female version of daemon. She's wild and passionate and has a fire similar to her parents but that's it and it's okay. A child being a favourite doesn't mean he doesn't love the rest

Rhaenyra's favorite child is Jacaerys. He's the firstborn son, her heir, her pride and joy. I know there's the alternative belief that Aegon III could also be suited for the role of the favorite, but I think he and rhaneyra are simply more emotional attached.

I think Laena would probably lean more towards Baela 'cause hot take but baela is more similar to Laena (in my mind at least). Obviously she loves Rhaena too but Baela is definitely her favorite.

Now, onto the children:

Jacaerys/Lucerys/Joffreys favorite parent is Daemon. He's the one they identity and remember as a father and he's someone they look up to. Of course they adore their mother but Daemon is the fun parent and they can get away with anything as long as they have him by their side.

Aegon's iii favorite parent is Rhaenyra. He can be needy sometimes and his mother is all the more willing to be affectionate with her son. She loves that she finally has a boy who isn't in too much rush to grow up fast.

Viserys's II favorite parent is also Rhaenyra. Vivi prefers the quiet company of hid older brother Aegon above all but he's not fond of the training his other elder siblings and Daemon are obsessed with. He loves sitting with Aegon as his mother tells them one of the stories of old valyria.

Baela's favorite is Daemon. While she admires her mother, her father's Rogue prince personality is more appealing, and while her mother doesn't preasure her about being a "proper lady" according to westerosi standards her father still let's her get away with more things

Rhaenas' favorite parent is Laena. She admires her mother's spirit and hopes to become like her one day. When her mother passes away Rhaena latches onto Rhaenyra who makes it clear to her and her twin that she'll never try to replace their mother's memory. Her beauty and playful side definitely help Rhaena grow out of her shy self.

Also, had Visenya survived she definitely would have joined Aegon and Viserys to team Rhaenyra. She's mama's girl

rhaenys burns the greens in the pit, goes to dragonstone to tell rhaenyra about the coup but says she’s already fixed everything. they all go back to king’s landing and the true queen is crowned. rhaenys is the queen’s hand. baby visenya is born a few weeks after the crowning. rhaenyra and daemon are living the pure domestic bliss with all their children. they all lived happily ever after. The idea that Daemon survived the fall after the Battle above God’s Eye is absurd (the idea that he abandoned his family so he could run away with Nettles is beyond that).

Daemon Targaryen loved his family more than anything, for starters. He loved his daughters, he loved his sons and he loved his wife/his Queen (the woman he waited years and years for). He would have never abandoned them at their time of need, especially during a war deciding the future of House Targaryen.

Secondly, our favorite Rogue Prince has always been highly interested in getting House Targaryen back in shape and at the height of the reign of Aegon the Conqueror. It was his life goal. He wouldn’t have abandoned that cause for anything. Prince Daemon Targaryen was one of the few true dragon lords House Targaryen produced.

If Daemon had survived that fall, he would have returned to King’s Landing with Aemond’s head on a platter, not hesitating to take pride in how he eliminated the Greens’ single ace card (and by that, I mean Vhagar. Aemond was nothing without her). And with that, he would have proved his unwavering loyalty to Rhaenyra, and protected the claims of their remaining children.

i’m not gonna lie i don’t particularly care that they had sex that night. was it disrespectful? for sure. did it harm anyone for them to do it? it, in fact, did not. two consenting adults having sex away from prying eyes and keeping to themselves < an entitled boy purposely calling a girl at her mother’s funeral (whom he had never interacted with before) a pig and ridiculing her grief. laena’s storyline was cut short because the writers decided she wasn’t important enough to make into a proper character that isn’t at the mercy of other characters (it’s something i’m forever going to be salty about, daemon and rhaenyra loved her with all their hearts and were absolutely devastated when she passed) but out of those two scenarios who do you think she would be more upset with?

the people who bring this up in retaliation cannot handle alicent taking any criticism whatsoever. in all honesty i wouldn’t even care if her fans would just say ‘yeah, it was shitty. don’t really care though.’ it would at least save me the time of reading think piece after think piece on why alicent deserved to get her lick back against rhaenyra for her lot in life (caused by otto and viserys) by focusing on her pain rather than her son’s. these are the same people who try to claim that most of rhaenyra’s children and step children secretly hate her, due to wanting ‘complex and nuanced relationships’ to occur (they actually also can’t handle that rhaenyra was a great mom all around to all of her kids, and that maybe they need to be focusing those feelings on the green kids with their parents instead). let’s be serious for just one moment: it makes more sense that the children who were neglected by one parent and abused by the other having complicated familial feelings than children who were (for the most part) raised in a relatively stable and loving environment.

Only to realize a month after the baby should be due that this normal term baby looks an awful lot like a pureblooded Targaryen not (whichever house) and they're already married and they already love each other so what is he gonna do about it? Be mad? At his scheming, manipulative, deceitful little wife? She got what she wanted and he's pleased too

Tessarion landed on the beach of Dwarfstone a moment after Ser Addam’s unfortunate introduction to Daemon’s anger. It was her’s and Viserea’s landing that distracted Daemon and allowed for Ser Addam to be pulled away from him. Viserea felt the eyes of the Westerosi army on her as she walked up to the stone slab being used as a makeshift table to hold War Councils, but she did not allow for their gazes to intimidate her. The anger she felt was written clearly on her face, no matter how much she felt the anger was stupid. She was a princess, and she knew that part of her responsibilities were to be wed and have children; she wasn’t angry at her responsibilities. She was angry at Viserys for claiming she and Rhaenyra would have their choice only for her own choice to be rejected immediately.

“We don’t need any help from the King.” Daemon said, his tone sharp and almost offended at her arrival.

“Do you really believe the King allowed for the Princess he views as another daughter of his to leave the safety of the keep and enter a war ground?” Viserea replied, mimicking his tone.

“Then why are you here?” He asked.

“I’m here to fight.” Viserea said, and before she could reply, a knight in the Velaryon colors whose name Viserea didn’t know spoke up.

“You’re a Princess. A war ground is no place for you, you need to be back in King’s Landing where it’s safe. You’re much too valuable.” His tone showed sincere worry for her, but it only made Viserea’s blood boil more.

“You’re correct, I am a Princess. And Daemon is a Prince. Our titles are of equal importance and he is allowed to fight. There’s another Princess who’s your future Queen still back in King’s Landing where it’s safe. If Daemon is allowed to fight, I see no reason why I should not be allowed. It’s not like me and my dragon would hurt your cause.” Every word Viserea spoke was laced with confidence, anger, and determination.

She wasn’t going to just be led away peacefully. If they wanted her gone, they could knock her out, tie her up, and drag her back to King’s Landing.

“We could use another dragon, especially one of Tessarion’s size. She’s grown since I was last in King’s Landing and she looks to be the same size as Caraxes. Her dragon alone could turn the fates.” Corlys’ support wasn’t what Viserea expected, but she looked towards him and gave him a small nod in thanks to which he returned.

“That’s too bad, she’s going back to King’s Landing.” Daemon said, leaning over the stone table as if to say the conversation was finished.

Viserea grabbed hold of his armor and turned him so he was forced to look at her as she spoke,

“No matter what the whispers in Flea Bottom are, my father did not name me Viserea because of the supposed favoritism he showed towards one brother. My mother and father named me after the great Queen Visenya who fought alongside Aegon the Conqueror, placed the crown upon Aegon’s head, and was the first to hail him as King. My dragon was named to honor the goddess of Old Valyria that makes dreamers such as myself. I understand the honor in being given these names and I do not intend to bring them dishonor by lying around King’s Landing when there is a war to be fought.“

Violet eyes met violet eyes and Viserea noticed a change in Daemon’s that she couldn’t name. It did not match the smirk that came across his face as he spoke again,

“Alright then, Princess. You’ll fight.”

Still can’t get over the fact that GRRM created his absolute fave, Prince Daemon Targaryen for Rhaenyra.

He was created because GRRM couldn’t find the right husband for the Dragon Queen! And he made him the most awesome character in the whole story, with the perfect start, middle and finish.

And people say that GRRM doesn’t care about Rhaenyra. He sure does. He made Daemon for her, he made her the Realm’s Delight, made her the youngest dragonrider in history, he made her the first reigning Queen in Westeros and gave her justice by having her and Daemon’s bloodline on the Iron Throne.

Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen was inspired by Empress Matilda (the usurped heir of the English Throne). And because she was the Asoiaf version of Empress Matilda, she, unfortunately, had to have the same tragic story that Matilda did. I just wish Rhaenyra had lived to see her son ascend the throne and counsel him, like Matilda did with her own son.

But there can be no doubt that despite the tragedy and the cruelty of the story (as we are used to in the Asoiaf world), GRRM clearly favored the Blacks and gave them the bittersweet ending the Greens were denied.
