“It was not the thorn bending to the honeysuckles, but the honeysuckles embracing the thorn.” ― Emily Bronte, Wuthering Heights 24th September 1848, death of English painter and writer Branwell Brontë, brother of the writers Charlotte, Emily and Anne. Suffering from tuberculosis, Branwell’s death was hastened on this day at the age of 31, from alcoholism, and laudanum and opium addiction. Further suffering from alcohol withdrawal, his sister Charlotte recorded that he persisted as he was dying in wanting to show the power of human will, and remained standing until he died. Four days later he was interred in the family vault, to be joined in death shortly on the 19th December by his sister Emily, her health deteriorating rapidly, due to ongoing tuberculosis, the harsh winter, and the contamination of water in her house through run off from the church's graveyard. On the 29th May 1849, Anne also died from tuberculosis. Emily Bronte’s Wuthering Heights appears in the historically inspired Ofgraveconcern Industrial Sublime Tarot 1760 - 1848. Prints of the cards are for sale on the website see link in bio. Also for sale is a reproduction of the title page with added original artwork as shown in a ‘hanging book’, a unique home decor item made from an actual antique and salvaged book. The same artwork is also sold as a candle.
