Animation practice: Bases (I need your help!)

This ruff draft is an exercise in animation. The animation in question is of the following prompt: What would Clara de Vries's magical transformation into Nightingale look like?

This was made with limited references. If you see this, please provide feedback. Don't be afraid to air any problems with the piece because this is just the base layer. If anyone has anything they want me to add then now is the time.

I'm planning on animating the next layer soon.

To clarify, the character is from a project called Wildward, which was created by @callimara. The project is based on loose concepts from Miraculous Ladybug, but with a more mature twist.

in honor of Wildward by @callimara’s first chapter releasing, i decided to dig up an old OC concept from back when there were only the character design videos out! here i played with the concept of Kirana (back then only known as Ulara) having a younger sister who looks up to her despite their different personalities. i called her Rama i think and she has a sort of distant relationship with her older sister due to work and school, but Rama always wants to make sure she’s doing well.

while she started out as a more simple ‘scary bulldog who is actually super nice’ type of character since in my head she’s just a side character, i decided to give her a hobby of being a photographer in her school’s newspaper as well as an aspiring journalist. a running gag i thought of is that for some reason, every photo she takes always has one of the main girls photo bombing it which always leaves the poor girl confused and befuddled.

i had other stuff planned for her such as a traumatic backstory related to the underground, but i didn’t flesh it out much other than the fact that it left Rama with a desire to repay her sister for being by her side all that time so i’ll leave it at that.

n e ways, that’s all for now! maybe i’ll revamp Rama’s character and remove her being Kirana’s younger sister from her story (as much as i loved playing with the idea, i don’t think it would fit in the direction of Kirana’s character as of now. plus i think it was implied she has younger siblings alr in episode 1 😅) and having her as a side character somehow always capturing the magical girls’ wild adventures on camera. an unwilling spectator if you will ;D

For the last month I’ve only been drawing furries so I decided to draw a human for a break. As much as it makes me sad, one can’t live only on anthropomorphic squirrels and mice.

I took this opportunity to draw in Callimara’s art style. She’s a big inspiration for me. Mainly with her storytelling. Ages ago I did like a short series (that I never finished and don’t plan to) on my blog where I made OCs based off of the legend of Saki Sanobashi. It was inspired by her series where she redesigned characters from Yandere Simulator. I’m a big fan of that series. If I ever go completely mad, I’m making a PC 98 style visual novel adaptation of the whole thing! Finally giving us the Yandere Simulator game we all deserve.

But speaking of video games made by a one man team, Fear and Hunger one and two! Some of the best games ever made! Never played any of them in my life. But I sure watched an eight hour long lore analysis video on them! And all of SuperEyepatchWolf’s stream archives on the games. And both Worm Girl’s videos on the game…. I can go on and on.

I decided to draw Marina. She’s my favourite character. Just a manic pixie dream girl occultist during pretty much an apocalypse. What’s not to love? Also loads of baggage with alternative universe catholics. Just like me for real! Also she’s canonically trans and I head cannon her as pansexual. I’m pansexual and I got to spread my pan agenda fellas. We already got the bicon Olivia and you can never have enough of people who love the whole gender buffet.

Speaking of queer characters in Fear and Hunger, I got to make like a big piece with all the queer characters at pride. There’s a lot of them. If you’re a sad queer person into some narly horror then I would sure recommend these games.

Lastly this piece was inspired by SuperEyePatchWolf’s most recent archived stream on YouTube. Or at least it I think it is. Marina’s crying because of her complicated feeling of her abusive father finally being dead. I was really scared she was going to leave the party at that moment and get turned into a monster. But she shook it off and joined the party again.
