Why Horses Nap Standing and Sleep Lying Down
Tumblr media
One of the well-known “facts” about horses is that they sleep standing up. This is not technically true: horses lie down for deeper REM sleep while they doze standing. A key reason horses have evolved to nap standing up is that they lived for millennia on open plains, where running away from a predator at a moment’s notice could be necessary.
The horse's physiology supports standing naps, with tendons, ligaments, and muscles working together to form the stay apparatus. This locks the legs’ major joints and ensures the horse does not fall while resting. During a doze, the horse often alternates a single leg off the ground to relieve it from its constant weight while the other three limbs provide support.
Like humans, horses have phases of lighter and deeper sleep and, for the latter, require a lying down position. These deeper sleep stages are necessary for the equine brain to function properly. Horses only do this for short periods, totaling two to three hours per day, and they typically have a horse standing at the watch nearby. This is because it takes time and effort for the horse to get up and onto its feet after sleep, and they need warning if a predator is near.

Why is Mitch always the whipping boy for a lot of fans??
There's always been this pretty consistent characterization of him as hyper-emotional/soft while also designating him as lazy or not caring. A few reasons I can think of that this might be
The Contract: makes a pretty significant chunk of the cap and had a long, drawn-out and exhausting road to signing; never mind that it was a) signed before the Covid flat-cap, b) his father was known to be meddling in the process, c) he thought he was going to have to deal with Babcock for the next five years at least, and d) unlike Willie had performed extremely well on his ELC, meriting pretty much an immediate raise to ~11 mil
Publicly presents this kind of goofy, dorky attitude that rubs people the wrong way (the Leafs are "supposed" to be this super-serious, hard-working, nose-to-the-grindstone type of ultra-professional team, and lovey-dovey silly Mitchelly is not what One Might Expect compared to more historic players like Mats Sundin, or, god forbid, Doug Gilmour or Wendel Clark)
Not the most well-media-trained or eloquent guy in the world and accidentally says a lot of things that you could misinterpret as whiny emotionality if you were already the sort of person to be ill-disposed towards him
Lack of playoff luck
(This one has faded somewhat over time) Far too skinny and a pushover and doesn't hit (people who say this don't know puck but there are people who say it)
...etc. Also worth noting that ~the fansphere~ tends to be either Team Mitch or Team Willy at any given time, pretty much exclusively based on who's been hotter of late -- when Mitch is hot, trade Nylander; when Nylander's hot, why did we give Marner that money in the first place (you can see this now if you look). Why must they pit two bad bitches against each other?

Conulariids are an extinct group of probable cnidarians with 4-sided pyramidal thecae. They are relatively uncommon fossils but ranged from the Cambrian (possibly Ediacaran?) to the Triassic, comprising tens of genera and hundreds of described species (Lucas 2012).
Here are the reconstructed thecae of a small selection of species from every period of the conulariids' range, starting from the Cambrian in the top left and reaching all the way to the Triassic in the bottom right.
Since their soft parts are virtually never preserved (due to them being cnidarians and all that) (Van Iten & Südkamp 2010), most of our knowledge of conulariid biology and evolution is based on their more fossil-friendly thecae, which were composed of thin organophosphatic lamellae (Leme et al. 2008). Live conulariids were attached to the substrate by the apex of their theca; they probably captured suspended food particles or small prey using tentacles, just like other cnidarians, but it's hard to go in any more (non-speculative) detail without preserved soft tissues.

Why should you vote for Vash? (2)
"look at him. look at him! he is extremely silly at all times (og anime especially and specifically)! He walked into a stakeout without realizing, despite being shot at, because he had his earbuds on! He's crabwalked away from bullets! Two of his besties are an insurance team specifically watching out for him! He rarely ever takes any threat of death towards himself seriously, but if an enemy gets hurt he's like "oh no you okay?" because he's silly like that. He's kind and respectful to everyone including women (except in the movie screw the movie) and people actively trying to kill him! He looks goofy /pos. He IS goofy /pos. My friend did not get me sucked into these animes (and manga) for me not to recommend him for this list!!! Ty for reading my Ted Talk lmao sorry"
"he's a babygirl. he's a wanted criminal. he's traumatised. he's got pretty eyes. he's a pacifist in a world trying very hard to kill him. he's the greatest marksman who ever lived. he's full of so much love. he's god's most unfortunate creature. he's a little fruity"

How to Care for Dental Implants
Tumblr media
Dental implants are widely sought-after procedures dentists perform to restore damaged or extracted teeth. It has a high success rate, allowing dental patients to regain their smile and confidence. Dental implants offer a natural feel and functionality for chewing and effectively remedy issues like tooth decay, injury, and gum disease. However, proper care is essential to capitalize on dental implants' benefits fully.
One crucial aspect of dental implant care is the choice of toothbrush. Opting for a soft-bristled toothbrush is paramount, as brushes with hard bristles can potentially damage the enamel of the teeth and harm the implants. Additionally, hard-bristled brushes risk scratching the implants, leading to irreversible damage. Therefore, selecting a soft-bristled toothbrush, such as one made from soft nylon, helps safeguard the integrity of dental implants.
Another vital component of implant care is daily flossing. Flossing is key in thoroughly removing food particles and plaque that tend to accumulate between teeth. While brushing is essential, it may not effectively eliminate the buildup around implants, making daily flossing crucial. Using unwaxed tape or floss designed for individuals with dental implants ensures optimal oral hygiene.
Furthermore, abstaining from smoking and moderating alcohol consumption are integral aspects of implant maintenance. Smoking should be avoided altogether, as it hampers the healing process of implants by inflaming and weakening the surrounding gums. Similarly, excessive alcohol consumption impedes healing by promoting plaque accumulation on implants due to its high sugar content. Thus, minimizing these habits supports the long-term success of dental implants.
