OH. so.

when it comes to c!sam and c!dream in the season two au, sam gets his memories back fairly quickly. not right away, however. it's like a slow download, if you will. similar to how he 'downloads' himself to new bodies, right?

and when he does get his memories back, he's already friends with dream. almost immediately sam wants to go scorched earth and lock dream up because he knows what dream is capable of. but he no longer has the backing of the entire server.

so he decides to keep his friendship with dream as a way to keep an eye on dream. when dream develops a bit of a crush on sam, sam goes for it because that's even more leverage, right? he's doing it for the good of the server and because he's So Normal about dream. he knows it's a ruse but it's okay, he can justify it by saying he's doing what's needed to keep dream in check.
