another thing about the assistant angle is like. being there when bakugou reaches the hero top 40 and branches off with kirishima and sero and denki for their own agency. it's a bit of a mess bc they're barely twenty years old but—you're his only employee. he can barely afford to pay you and he doesn't even really know what you're supposed to do besides answer the phone and he's so emotionally unavailable but you're there, every single day. friendly with his friends. sometimes you bring lunch in for all of them and it's out of your own paycheck and it's not the best but you do it, for them. he lets you make the schedule for two weeks and you fuck it up so bad, but eventually you get it right and you try to be so fair—and that's hard to do, in the pro-hero world. there's nothing fair about a twenty year old man with trauma up to his ears risking his life every night because he doesn't know how to live with just himself, as just a man and not a hero, but goddamn it if you don't try to keep it fair, for every single one of them. you're one of his emergency contacts. you pick them up in the middle of the night when they're all the way across town, in another district police department bc that's where they caught the guy and where they have to turn him in. sometimes you bring their clothes or costumes home and wash them bc they don't get the chance. like it's everything.

weird tangent of the day: witchcraft has a finance problem
I think there is a high probability that I would be a witch if I liked spending money. I've been leaning in a kind of witchcraft-y direction for about four or five years now. I currently attend a Quaker meeting but it's a very kind of new-agey, universalist sort of group where that kind of synchretism wouldn't be completely unheard of.
The problem is, modern witchcraft as a group of religions (I use it as an umbrella term that includes Wicca & others) is a religion that implicitly requires you to have things. To do a spell you need to have all sorts of items: candles, oils, crystals . . . things that I don't want to be spending money on when I could be buying other things I need and/or want. Even if I did have endless money to throw around, I live in a loft that's about twenty feet wide, and I have to go downstairs to get to the kitchen. I don't have space to store all of the things you're told you need to have to be a witch.
The things you need to be a witch have been a severe barrier to taking up the practice for me. And the more I sit in this, the more I explore also the thought processes of occultists like Osman Space who put forth systems you can use with only pen and paper, the more I have come to realize that motern witchcraft is a religion that, even if unintentionally, gatekeeps the poor and those living in high density situations. It's something I think modern witches need to reckon with.
Because I'd like to be one of you. But I can't if it means being told implicitly over and over again that I need to have all these things.

i know i say that atsushi likes to spend his extra cash on kyouka but i also dont think kyouka lives there for "free" like she could, atsushi wouldn't mind, but i feel like it makes more sense for her to contribute since its not like atsushi's rolling in cash
maybe atsushi wouald be hesitant at a 50-50 thing becuz she's so little and he cares so much about her but i dont believe its 0-100 ya know?

all the while society conflates "being an adult" with "having a proper job" and "having money to make arbitrary Adult Purchases" disabled people who can't work - or can only work part time or can only do entry level baby jobs - will never be 'allowed' to be adults
you can say "being an adult is looking after yourself you don't have to have a job!!!" all you want but most people who say that will still assume anybody who doesn't either can't or won't 'look after themselves' actually. and every 'marker' of 'adulthood' that's observable and thus actually counts or whatever loops back around to... having a job and 'contributing' something

In the original Japanese version of The Thousand-Year Door, Vivian was written as a transgender woman, but that element of Vivian's identity was removed in the English localization, where instead of bullying Vivian about her gender, Beldam called her ugly.
Now, when Vivian is traveling with Mario in Chapter 4's Twilight Town, it's revealed that her original backstory is intact: "Truth is, it took me a while to realize I was their sister... not their brother," Vivian tells Mario. "Now their usual bullying feels heavier."
🎉🎉🎉 diversity win! this game's minor antagonists are now transphobes in english as well as japanese.

I had an interesting conversation earlier with a friend about the movie, because they didn't understand why I was so intrigued by velvets character "when she's obviously just a villain"
Because that isn't how these movies work and both of the green noodles are stressed out TEENAGERS.
And I love Veneer, he's a sweet heart, but he was also part in using Floyd's essence to make his job easier.
There is obivous issues from home coming in to play with the twins (?wasn't clear) plans to further their career.
And based on their suits..... I wouldn't be surprised if what they where doing was COMMON among musicians of their people.
Because trolls aren't considered a major anything in their universe, listening to their arrest charges, it made it sound like they got arrest for PET abuse and substance violations
Oh no yeah I was thinking abt that a lot, literally in the middle of writing a post about them for the au as we speak lol.
I am CONSTANTLY thinking about how the bergens treated trolls as nothing but little animals for god knows how long, EATING THEM every year, keeping them trapped there...and those guys made peace with the trolls. The trolls LOVE the bergens now! And it hasn't even been that long!
But Velvet and Veener have the hammer dropped on them SO hard for doing something very similar to one troll. Sure, they were frauds, and sure, they hurt Floyd and what they did WAS incredibly wrong...but the same time they're teenagers. Like. 16 at the oldest. And their parents are NOWHERE to be seen in current day. If they're alive, they clearly don't give a shit about their kids. It wasn't even jail they got sent to, it was prison, which is much harsher in comparison. Veneer is a sweet guy, a very soft-hearted kid who is a very good character as well. But like you said, he participated.
SOMETHING had to be up with their upbringing. Veneer hardly spoke and looked panicked when Velvet flipped the table...and Velvet, who was probably what, 10? 9 maybe considering how small they looked? She flipped an ENTIRE TABLE with THINGS ON IT by herself. There had to be so many events leading up to that even at such a young age to cause her to have that massive of a reaction to a question as simple as "how was school today?" Like no way they had good parents when Veneer is obviously afraid of speaking out and Velvet has a whole airport full of emotional baggage that turned her into the person she is now. And they're not even 18 yet! What the fuck! Someone help these poor kids!

if i had a nickel for every time i became obsessed with a game where the main character was an android/automaton who was grappling with what it means to be 'real' in a world where they have to fight against their own kind and had a close relationship with an older man who serves as a father figure in their lives, i'd have 2 nickels - which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice

modern games can try and scare you with as many hi-res zombies as they want nothing will EVER beat the sheer adrenaline of running your little pixel character away from another little pixel character moving at moderately high speeds. all my free japanese rpgs downloaded off the internet folks know what i'm talking about
