Close calls were one thing, but this? This had been a nightmare waiting to happen. The trio of snagas had been little trouble, earning him nothing more serious than a scratch on one arm - he’d had worse paper cuts, frankly - but the fight had cost him precious time returning to base camp. Now the scent of sulfur and decay grows ever stronger with each step he takes, the lights of the base still too far away to save him from what is about to be unleashed, and Guy curses under his breath as he draws his blade.

The blinding light that cuts through the curtain of darkness sears his eyes for a moment, and he blinks until he can make out the shape of the ancient pickup truck, floodlights mounted to the roof like a miniature sun chasing away the daemons that had surrounded him, and the hunter all  but sags in relief. 

“One second later and I’d have been nothing more than a set of dog tags,” he muses gruffly. “My thanks.”

proper reupload in the high quality this fantastic segment so deserves; eagle pig and duck bias notwithstanding, this will forever be my favorite variant of the fabled switcheroo (and a reminder that Daffy was first at his own game!) the committal on behalf of both characters--especially the sincerity of Daffy's feigned sincerity--really sets it apart

#that delivery of “don't you believe i'm a fish?” sounds so hurt and it's perfect #likewise i think there are few one-liners/toppers that make me laugh as much as 'i told ya i was a pig' #and that all knowing glance at the audience from Daffy doesn't feel obnoxiously smarmy or self aware #there's a friendly nonchalance to it. a very clear amusement and not in a way that undermines anything this segment is setting out to achie #again. my favorite buzzword: that sincerity! a sincere investment and amusement in watching Porky obliviously and endearingly make an ass #out of himself #and of course the cross dissolve and setup of the composition implying a story/sequence of events taking place within that time... #this short isn't my favorite P+D short--i still LOVE IT A TON but there are so many i revere--but i think it's one of the most definitive #if someone was looking to get a good understanding on their character dynamic this would be one of my immediate recommendations #i haven't had the bandwidth to spread my pig and duck gospel but please #watch Porky and Daffy cartoons #tangential but i've always loved the sound effect Treg Brown uses for Porky dropping the gun #good exaggeration/whimsy while also connoting Porky's stubbornness and that this stupid petty argument is enough for him to lose sight of #his motives and discard his murder weapon. all because of this joyously stupid argument. so i like the self awareness there with how obtuse #the sound effects are #because anyone who is not Porky Pig would have just shot him point blank #and that is everything i love about their dynamic and how Daffy's intoxicating charisma and ability to get people invested even affects the #very characters on screen #gee d'you think i ought to have said more about this scene #lt #duck soup to nuts #freleng #vid

YA sff set in the near future where an opensource augmented reality is commonly used like social media, and there’s also a completely virtual fantasy game version

follows an Anishinaabe girl who who’s the top player in the VR game, and is constantly fighting to keep her place against the misogynist neo-nazi group in second place

as well as her real life, dealing with being a shy and self-conscious teen growing up on the Rez, and her brother having cancer

and a Uyghur boy who’s moved to her community from China after finding acceptance in an online community (even when he doesn’t agree with their more extreme views) - but when he gets to know Bugz, he has to decide who truly deserves his loyalty

great mix of sff and culture, the future while also very real community traumas of the past (and present)

#walking in two worlds #the everlasting road #wab kinew #aroaessidhe 2024 reads #This has some REALLY interesting and important concepts! #I just think it could have used some more development… Obvs this is YA and I’m an adult I know I’m not quite the audience! #There’s a lot of depth in the setup of the characters but I feel like it skips a lot of the progression #I think there could have been space for more development in a lot of places to make the story feel more dimensional #- but also has so many plot threads that maybe that would have bulked it out too much #It does also jump around quite a bit between the different parts but I think that makes sense with how juggling with irl / online life. #she’s got a lot of internalised fatphobia at the start (and the love interest going “I don’t think you’re fat!!” when people call her fat.. #then in book 2 suddenly she’s okay about it - again I wish there was some progression! #her brothers cancer journey is. basically all offscreen lol mostly as set up for plot in book 2. so it doesn't have the emotional impact it #could have.. #I liked the way it integrates her culture into the game in a really cool way (though I would have liked more detail there) #also having auto language translators but they regularly don't translate quite right / still run into issues - realistic! #the parallels drawn between his being taken from his family and put in a state education school and Indigenous residential schools #the way that a future world will never be as separate from the past as ur average sff future often portrays #but yeah anyway lots of good ideas execution not so much for me..

If decarabian was a gamer he would have the most decked out setup imaginable. 2000+ dollar custom keyboard where nearly everything but the internal components are made of solid gold. Top-of-the-line pc entirely encased in various ornately decorated gemstones. He would have at least five monitors (bonus points if they also double as surveillance monitors.) His gaming chair would in fact be a literal throne. At times he thinks that video game logic must surely apply to real life mortal human logic as well and vastly overestimates how durable most humans are.

It all happened so quick that she almost missed it. An aggressive thug had snuck up behind while she was already preoccupied with two others of their pack.. coward. Stelle had only heard the guy's grunt as he had lunged towards her, fully anticipating the blow.. and was surprised when it hadn't landed-- but the subdued thud of a heavy impact absolutely did not go unnoticed. Stelle had only whipped around to see Welt collapsing to the ground near her feet.. the rest was honestly a bit of a blur- only small fragments clear enough to process what had occured.

If she had happened to leave the entire group of five bandits slumped across the earth, bodies completely bashed in- broken bones poking out and soaked in their own blood- thanks to her bat.. well, no one else had to know.

Entirely ignoring her own aching muscles and torn skin, Stelle had managed to pull the elder off the ground. The lass had intended to be gentle enough in her march back to somewhere one would consider safe, and tend to him, but apparently was not sufficient as she had heard Welt groan as he came to. She had decreased her pace, noting how fast she had been walking previously. Perhaps that's what contributed to the man's awakening.

" I don't think blacking out can be classified as 'being fine', Mr. Yang. "

Stelle kept her eyes forward, this time paying attention to any single thing that moved in her sight. Not making that mistake twice.. especially not right now. A slight readjustment to her arms under his knees, a brief jump to move him up a bit higher against her back, make the lad more secure in her hold, and she spoke, softer, almost as if she didn't want Welt to hear her.

" ..You didn't have to do that........"

The lass remained silent as she concentrated on the sounds surrounding them as far out as one could possibly make out. After a brief pause, scanning left and right, she made her decision of direction- hoping to get back as fast as her feet could carry them. She shook her head, speaking louder, making her rejection of the idea of letting him down abundantly clear.

" No can do. Once we make it to a clinic, only then will I set you down. ..At least let me do that......... "

The intended 'please' removed from the statement- not wanting to sound too desperate to repay him for sacrificing his own well being for hers.

As someone who had a recent pregnancy scare, I want to wholeheartedly tell the people who stand in front of Planned Parenthoods that they are NOT, in fact, helping women, and that they ARE, in fact, in dire need of a constructive hobby.

Thinking about getting a nose piercing. Like a little stud on the side... on the right side. My cartilage piercing is on the left & I plan to wear a lil hoop on it once it's healed enough. And that just might be the only cartilage piercing I want? Bc I have my double lobes and I got only one cartilage piercing bc I like the idea of having just one lil hoop in one ear. Coincidentally on the same side as Vash's hoop, though I chose it long b4 getting into Trigun bc I part my hair to the right lol, which means a cartilage piercing would be more visible on the left.

Anyways I was thinking about it and if I have a side nose piercing on the right of my nose, then an eyebrow piercing on my left eyebrow... balanced with my hair on the right side... I think that'd be my ideal piercing setup tbh, at least for my face.

Could change my mind later, but I am Thinking about it

My gaming setup is an office laptop with low resolution so it actually runs, a dollar store RGB keyboard I hook into said laptop, a mouse I found in a drawer, I have a microphone but I don't have enough USB ports to plug it in, so I use my laptop mic, and this entire setup is on a shitty cot I sleep on.

Damn it! It was cute the first 5 times. Now it's driving him mad. Suddenly he's overcome with the urge to see you again. To have his old desktop setup. To not deal with flirty senpais every single morning.

So he finally puts in the effort.

One day, you're eating your breakfast cereal, genitals still raw from that nightly monster deed. You've stopped searching for your boyfriend who mysteriously vanished without a trace. The entry door creaks open, and you turn in shock.
