there is an orange and white ball python behind the bookshelf. I feed it, and take a photo, where you can see the two geckos it has swallowed beneath its skin. Wait What? But I had to give Koy away! On a second glance, it is just a giant lizard, which is fine, sometimes there are giant lizards. PSYCHE there's both, the snake has just left. It is perhaps some offspring of Koy (that is never something I question too deeply in my snake dreams). It is crawling about, leaving bloody streaks on the floor(??!!). Its movement is weaving and wobbly, its head at an odd angle, sort of collapsed. The blood is from its heatpits, smeared down its chin and belly. Dad appears in the hallway. We converse. The snake looks more and more broken. I assent to putting it out of its misery. Dad holds it down by the neck and crushes its misshapen skull beneath his heel.

Okay but what if this is a cosmic Monkey’s Paw situation Kipperlilly is fucking MISERABLE right now. Like, she was a shithead teen that was jealous of Riz for having a dead dad and a ‘tragic backstory’ because it ‘made him a better adventurer and was an unfair advantage’, and then on her first real mission her entire party got killed and coerced into serving an evil rage god, except for her very best friend who stayed dead. And she HATES IT. It’s like one of those old fairytales where a kid doesn’t do their chores and talked back to their parents, so their parents abandon them and the child gets eaten by a demon and somehow that’s ‘justice’, so you better behave kid! I mean, Ankarna IS a corrupted goddess of justice. It just seems funny to me that she’s LIVING her tragic backstory RIGHT NOW after complaining to Jawbone for two years about not having one. And the worst part is, from a CERTAIN PERSPECTIVE, she was a little bit right. Kipperlilly DID only start doing actual adventuring and rouge shit after she was forced to by an evil god who killed her and is currently holding her friend hostage. Like, it didn’t have to be that way. She could have done that stuff at any time. But her current ‘tragic situation’ is what’s currently FORCING her to get off her ass and adventure. So... about Kiriona and why she's Like That, and what's been happening these past six months.

She hasn't just been living her worst monkey's paw life as Ianthe's chew toy and bored prince, acting as emotional support for her new dad in his dismyriad crisis. Which would all be bad enough on its own. At least half that time she's also been actively deployed. Like, in the military, in a combat zone. Probably in a command position with very little experience and exactly zero training.

From the scattered mentions we've seen of Antioch, Kiriona was most likely deployed there to quell a rebellion. No doubt a terrible experience that would have expected her to do horrible things. Then these things—the devils—turned up.

Anyone who was infected by the devils, she had to dismember them and burn the corpses. Edenites, House, and civilians. That means regular old people who had nothing to do with the fighting, and people under her command. Either they became shambling zombies with mouths for eyes, or they were mercy-killed and burned before they could be taken.

How many people did she see die? How many people did she kill, and how many of them did she consider herself responsible for?

So if we're counting the reasons Gideon might seem a little off, we might want to take into account how she took a detour though a fucking zombie apocalypse while we weren't looking. Shit.

Since the first introduction of Frankenstein being a real person in this universe, Jekyll has expressed that she was a great inspiration for his field of study, and I mean, how couldn't she be. She made a whole person from mismatched corpses using nothing but the science at her disposal and being driven by pation, who wouldn't want to be like her? Because of this, once Jekyll finally meets Frankenstein in the flesh, he is very obviously saddened by being called nothing short of a narc as well as being accused of being an "imposter," but at this point we all know that. What I love about this is that despite being insulted to his face and told that he was a last resort, Jekyll AND HYDE both desperately wanted her approval, or at least that she would give them the time of day.

BUT, because he's seen as a clean and polished version of what true mad science really is, Frankenstein does not give two shits about these two. From her perspective, she has little to no reason to assume anything might be even the slightest bit off about Jekyll... except for the whole green eyes incident. It was only a crack, but other than that Henry just seems like a normal English gentleman but ohhhhh OHHHHHH

Now, with the whole truth being laid out for Frankenstein to see, Jekyll and Hyde have have her undivided attention, but in the absolute worst way possible. Instead of approving of their work like a teacher would a student or even as equals in the same field, she's seeing them as a specimen to poke and prod and find out what makes it tick. Hell, before Jekyll transformed, Frankenstein was kicking him out of her room and even opened the door for him, only to shut it the moment she saw what happened, and even went so far as to call it fascinating.

No, yeah, this is technically what they wanted (having Frankenstein's approval) but it's given to them at such a low point in their lives that it ends up being an entire monkey's paw of a wish come true

I also like bad end alternate universe stories where someone gets dropped into a world where everything they know is wrong!! Call me silly but. Phineas and Ferb across the second dimension. But no yeah this is awful awful awful despite using a trope I like.

The only good thing I can say about tokw is that it has a great score. Lorne Balfe knocks it out of the park again but no yeah this kinda sucks ass imo. Also Noah’s voice performance really went off here but that’s it.

case 2 - she wanted to be perfect, she wanted something about her to be perfect, she wanted the tattoo, she wanted to fix the parts of herself that werent "right"

case 3 - he wanted his partner back (again) he wanted to live happily and for a long time with her, he wanted to escape what he had done

case 4 - he wanted to shed the shackles of his family, make something of himself, be a musician, be famous, and was willing to do whatever it took to get to that point

i think, i THINK, if we stop trying to categorize this as fear and start thinking of it more as desire, MAYBE gwen isnt as much of a red herring as i, at least personally, thought. she wants nothing more than to be in lena's position, and lena has told her, literally, she "doesn't have what it takes"
