#but that fnv video man

I've seen a lot of takes about the Hbomb video - here's a link; he's also done some similar works criticizing Allen Wakefield (accidentally instigated the prime anti-vax movement while trying to scam people) and Tommy Tallerico (similar vein to The Video, of plagiarism/credit theft).
I've also enjoyed some of his teardown videos, but my real favorites are his Why FNV Is Genius (and Here's Why) and Pathologic Is Genius (And Here's Why), which lead me to buying and playing (some of) Pathologic 2.
One thing worthy of note is that he specifically requests that nobody start a witch hunt over the subjects of his videos. He is an opinionated person and his righteous indignation is very entertaining, but I've never seen him seriously suggest people harass any real human beings. Suggestions to do so after watching the video have been made by the viewers and are explicitly condemned by Hbomb himself in the video. Just saying.
But more to the point is how he ends the video: he decides to cap it off with a reel of suggested viewing for people who create the kinds of things Somerton allegedly made himself, focusing on queer creators.
Here's the playlist linked in the video description:
I don't doubt other people have shared this already, but it hasn't crossed my dash, so I thought I'd give it a mention. It's a really nice way to end a video that, while focusing on informing the viewers and warning people of potential scammers essentially, does have a negative tone at times because he is, well, tearing into someone's monumental career of plagiarism.
The playlist links to videos by Alexander Avila (who was himself plagiarized by Somerton), Matt Baume, Lady Emily, verilybitchie, RickiHirsh, Shanspeare, Khadija Mbowe, hazel, Herby Revolus, Maggie Mae Fish, Kaz Rowe, Kat Blaque, Lily Alexandre, max teeth, drapetomania, Kameno -o, Lola Sebastian, Princess Weekers, CJ The X, Jennie Geist, Mia Mulder, Nick DiRamio, Sarah Z, Rowan Ellis, and finally Maven of the Eventide.
(I have chosen to spare my wrists and sanity by not hyperlinking those names because the playlist is literally right there.)
Fun facts: this list, which apparently also has nonbinary and trans artists on it, contains 0 names I am already familiar with. I don't spend a lot of time on Youtube outside of very specific needs, but this still makes for a good opportunity for me to familiarize myself with work from others in the community.
Anyways, I just think that's an extremely cool way to end a four-hour-video that, while extremely entertaining, is a bit of a down to watch and realize how easily extremely unmotivated people are stealing others' work and making bank off of it. That's all I had to say, goodnight.

With the surplus of Grahams, I know there are few versions of these going around the internet, but this was one of the few instances where I was in it and got some pictures. Pictures taken on Saturday of the meetup.

Fallout HCs about video games cuz I'm absolutely batshit insane about these characters
(Fo3, NV and 4 but it's only characters I am crazy normal about)
Fo3 (Butch, Charon and RJ)
Butch
I'm being so honest with you, I think he'd LOVE rhythm games
He's a big music guy to me!!!
Rhythm games player,, he also would play the fuck out of multiplayer fps games
but Lone would have to make him stop because he gets really mad when he loses
He's fucking horrible at puzzle games also, he makes Lone solve puzzles for him but totally not because he needs help
He just uh... Thinks Lone is too dumb to figure it out... Yeah...
Charon
Okay I know I picked the characters but I'm so clueless for him
Maybe fps but idk
Actually this guy likes puzzle games
He watches Butch fail horribly and silently judges him
Puzzle games and like... Games with specific tasks you need to repeat
I'm thinking like Potion Craft and Sticky Business
bro would love cleaning games I think
PowerWash Sim and Viscera Cleanup Detail are his beloveds
RJ
This kid would play multiplayer fps games and absolutely kick ass too
He's the mean kid on mic telling you how shit you were...
He gets mad when he loses and quits
But not before saying that he's never playing that game again
... And then he's playing the same game the next day
He's such a little hater I think he'd say all kids games are for babies
He would LOVE to play them though :(
Would sooner kiss a Deathclaw than play a horror game though...
He'd act like he's not scared until he physically couldn't hide it anymore
FNV (Veronica, Arcade, Benny, Boone, Raul and Vulpes)
Veronica
Fps 100%
She's the one beating Butch all the time and she's having a blast doing it
Maybe also sorting games?
Ooh exploration games even
I barely traveled with Veronica but I feel like she would get really deep into the lore of whatever game she's playing
Unpacking fan I feel
I think she'd like ARGs too
She'd play slime rancher and throw tars into the sea as soon as she sees them
Arcade
He feels like a strategy game player
CIV player
Probably also likes cleaning/sorting games
I don't think he'd play video games very often... Sort of just a thing he does when there is NOTHING else to do
Probably would play Niche
Maybe Spore
I honestly have no clue with him beyond that
Benny
I'd like to start this by saying that he's comically bad at every game he plays
Other than gambling ones
He plays strategy games and loses every single time
He could not win a game to save his own life
Only games he's okay at are like... Ones it's hard to lose,,
And house flipper... He feels like a house flipper guy if he had to play
He also plays the Sims,, he loves that game so much
Boone
Really challenging myself here
I think he'd be good at fps but not really like them very much
Idk why but he feels like an rdr2 player to me a little
He also plays Plants Vs. Zombies because he's great
Idk he absolutely doesn't play games ever and when he does it's like,, card games
Boone is not the gamer of the group
Raul
Fuck oh God why did I put him on this list
Also a house flipper kind of guy but unlike Benny he's actually good at it
When he plays games it's to relax !!
He's playing fucking Stardew Valley and having a nice time
He plays Golf With Your Friends with the Courier...
Kinda feels like a Terraria player but he has actually no clue what he's doing,,
Plays Minecraft but only to build a house then turn the game off
If anyone tries to teach him a game he pulls the old man card
He will not play a game if he doesn't want too...
He's just "too old to figure it out"
Vulpes
Like Arcade he also plays CIV
But he's annoying about it somehow
Strategy and puzzle game player
No matter the game he acts like he's better than you for playing it somehow
Plays Terraria like Raul but he knows what he's doing and won't stop being a bitch about it
He acts like whoever he's playing with is stupid for not understanding whatever game they're playing
Fo4 (Nick, Deacon, Danse, Curie, Preston and MacCready again)
Nick
He's just like Raul tbh
When he plays a game it's to relax or with friends
He also plays Golf With Your Friends... Probably with Ellie and Sole
I think he'd like playing Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes...
Jackbox games too
He likes having fun with friends okay? :( let peepaw play a damn game
Probably would also like PowerWash Sim
Maybe even Slime Rancher
Deacon
I'm struggling more with what games he WOULDN'T play
He'd play multiplayer horror games with everyone and NOT do what he's supposed to
Not because he's uh... Scared or anything...
He's in the Railroad, obviously he likes Detroit: Become Human
Idk why but he feels like he would love OneShot
BattleBlock Theater kind of guy 100%
Like I said, I have no idea what he wouldn't play...
I think he'd play anything with his friends though
Kind of guy to find the absolute worst quality game to play and get it for everyone so they can all suffer together
Danse
Strategy games.
Or games with a very direct path
I think he'd be overwhelmed by open world games
Too much to do and not enough direction on where to go first
Survival games I think he'd like too
Hates horror games,, he would never admit it but he always gets jumpy
I honestly don't think he'd play anything other than strategy games without being pushed but shh.... If he were a gamer
Curie
Cleaning games or games that focus on science
HUGE Niche fan
She has no clue how to play a video game but she knows science!!
CIV player but she doesn't attack anyone unless they attack first... She just wants to make her cities and make everyone in them happy. That's literally it
Preston
I think he's in the same boat as Nick but he can't pull the old man card
He's just not a big fan of video games
But as long as he's playing with friends I think he'd have a good time
Probably would hate horror games too...
They're fun until it gets actually scary and then he doesn't want to play anymore
Honestly, I think he might like Don't Starve
Idk why... He'd play Wilson I think
Or Wendy
MacCready again
look he's older now
He still plays multiplayer fps games but he doesn't get as mad at them
He doesn't say as mean things anymore... And when he says it he says it to himself
I think Butch got him into rhythm games as a kid but he isn't good at them
100% would play video games with his kid.
He'd play like,, bugsnax when Duncan is older and lose his mind
I'm being so honest with you I think he's not good at any games that aren't fps...
EXCEPT. Stardew Valley. He would never in a million years admit it but he'd loved that fucking game.

fallout (2024)
WARNING: i did not finish this. i didn't want to finish this. do not read or watch if you like happy stories. do not read or watch if you like the darkness in the fallout games. this show is dark in gruesome, permanently damaging ways. fuck this. the show may fucking nail the aesthetic of fallout, it doesn't get the vibe of fallout. fallout is set in a serious world where video game characters go through a video game plots in a world that's also often goofy. an equivalence would be if the mario movie had a serious burial of Luigi half way through and he just stayed dead. a clear sign that it doesn't get it.
trigger warning: gore, dismemberment of the living and dead. the dog dies.
as a big fan of fallout 4, even fallout 76, and a letsplay of Fnv this is very hype. and the references they are putting in straight is so cool to see. and damn, that's how you start a fallout. and now jus the references, seriously the vault hallways looks straight up lifted from fallout 4 (with high definition mods)
a vault having connections with a different vault? so that either is a process of kicking people the fuck out, or the evil experiment from vault tech... probably both. also love that they don't avoid the fucked up lore that really makes fallout fallout.
oh yea, this is how you start a fallout part 2, the personal angle. kind of bummed that she doesn't start with the classic bulky 10mm. and of course there's something about the protaganists family, because this is bethesda fallout (not derogatively, just perfect adaptation)
me, out loud: "ohhh, that's the pridwin, that's so cool" if you get me to talk out loud you did good. petty power politics? how very fallout of you. "i'm bringing him home". i'm very sorry but that's not how fallout works.
also loves that bethesda continues with inclusivity. Dane is nonbinary, played by a trans actor. it's so small, it plays no role (at least i find it HIGHLY unlikely that it will. nb people are just part of reality, and so they are now (finally) entering media.
the fucking junk jet made it in?
just "the ghoul". i wonder if we'll get more info on what ghouls are. i mean i know. i've probably heard more false things then there's true stuff about ghouls to know. but if you're new to fallout i think the vault is relatively obvious, and the brotherhood is pretty well explained. but the concept of a ghoul? practivally nothing outside of them being scary, can go "feral", and are weird. but it is only the first episode.
02
it wouldn't be fallout without skeletons in strange positions and/or environmental story telling. did they use fallout sound effects for the weird man drinking water? it may not be but that is diamond city. at least based of it. it looks so fallout that i can't even remember which of the places i've had a shootout in it reminds me of, it's too many.
not a fan of living gore. like fallout game gore is fine. shooting limbs of completely mindless things? fine. but not on a person, espcially not one that's then crudely taken care of. i'm way too terrified of something happening to me, it tends to roam in my mind anyways, even more so now that i've a reason to give a shit about my body, so the dismemberment of the living... ew, please, no more. at least it doesn't stick around too long (in which case why? just to be gross?)
"cyanide was the most humane product vault tech ever made"... accurate yet horrifying.
03
oh... so that's who the ghoul is. and that, well it'll create drama, and i'm curious how close it's to the story of nuka break. haven't seen that show in too long.
me, out loud, after wondering what that monster was "oh of course it was a gulper. wait, no, those are east coast, this was west coast." not really a plothole, monsters from one side often make their way to the other. harder for a water based creature. unless the same thing evolved twice.
oh, those eyes weren't just more human then expect. that thing was human... once.
the golden rule is severely lacking. don't do onto others as you'd have them to onto you. if i was into bondage and often horney how do you think it'd treat people if the golden rule was. a good rule is "treat others how they want to be treated" or "treat others how you can reasonably expect they want to be treated". the golden rule of the wasteland is pretty accurate though: "thou shalt get sidetracked by bullshit every goddamn time". this rule is, in fact, recursive.
of course the waterchip is broken. this is fallout after all.
04
ok, no, i'm done. no dismemberment of main characters. fuck you. even if she does get it back. i'm done.

hi hello i'm watching a video on fnv that i mostly like so far but the guy. just. said boldfacedly that Regis was Papa Khan's son????? and as the resident Khan enjoyer i figured i'd inflict that upon you. why are people so goddamn bad at understanding the Khans.
Uuugghh Oh my GOD pain and suffering for REAL I HATE this,,,,, yknow I know where this comes from there's this one ancient IGN guide that says that and I have no idea where they even got the idea from. Even in the New Vegas official guidebook all it has to say about them is that Regis is younger than Papa (which. Hilarious considering Regis looks just as old as Papa)
I bet this is just because Regis calls Papa "Papa" and they don't think a grown man should be doing that unless it's his actual dad forgetting that like What else is he supposed to call him papa is his NAME UGH 馃様 Regis isn't even his Heir he's just some guy! You'd think if he was related to the man he'd bring it up when you ask him to "tell me about Papa Khan" but no he just calls him "one of the best leaders we've ever had!" AUGGHH thanks for inflicting me I'm gonna go hunt down the IGN writers

who is the best youtuber to watch for FNV stuff? I don't have any gaming thing, so I'll have to make do by experiencing it through other people
For FNV specifically, my main go-to is:
Mikeburnfire: Mostly for his FNV 'multiplayer' videos with his friend Zach, but also plays other games. Their older videos can be pretty dated and they aren't perfect, but I've never felt like they've crossed a line. They're pretty funny and regularly talk shit about the military from when they were soldiers, and they also play through a countless amount of mods. They also have hundreds of FNV videos so if you don't know where to start besides their first I'd recommend checking out their runs for New California, The Frontier, DUST, or 'campfire stories' if you're looking for some life stories to listen to.
But as someone who actively avoids Fallout youtubers for obvious reasons, here's a couple other recommendations:
Mittensquad: Does challenges for most Fallout games in general. His most recent vid, Can You Beat F:NV While Addicted To Every Chem In The Game?, was posted 10 months ago and he hasn't really been active since sadly.
Wilburger: I am literally going through all of my subscriptions because I cannot remember the last time I went out of my way to watch FNV videos. Anyway this guy has a FNV playlist but I haven't watched it or one of his videos in years.
Timothy Cain: This man needs no introductions. He doesn't really have gameplay or FNV-centric videos but he doesn't need to. Here's his Fallout playlist.

man like obviously I think Fallout New Vegas is better than 3 and 4 (like in a Hydrogen Bomb vs Coughing Baby way particularly between 3 and NV) but FNV fans use the absolute worst examples to illustrate this. like the intro thing. like first of all: I just replayed KOTOR2 and if you want to talk about long intros, obsidian has like gone into inescapable crushing debt with Peragus. second of all: the Fallout 4 intro isn't even really that long you just spent four hours of your miserable little life that you will never get back in the CC. and THIRD and most importantly of all: the Fallout 3 is long but it's also iconic and I love it so much. it's not just a long, unskippable intro to a middling video game. it is THE long, unskippable intro to a middling video game. you literally watch yourself get born and play as a baby. like it is the creme de la creme, the magnum opus, the dare I say the GOAT of long, unskippable intros, and I wish I never left the fucking vault.

Spoilers ahead for the Fallout series. I don't get into a lot of detail, but it involves spoilers for the last episode. Be warned.
Just finished the last episode of season one and there's SO MUCH. I want to freak out so badly.
I had to force myself to not yell when I saw New Vegas in the distance. The only thought in my head and the only thing I could say was "Not my New Vegas."
Aww man, I know there's been a lot of issues and controversies over this show, and I really don't know the half of what's going on, but holy crap does that set up so much.
Could we see a courier? (Could be tough narrowing such a broad character to one idea). Maybe we'll see Ulysses? Given the fact that I'm pretty sure this is well after the events of New Vegas, I'm gonna guess the Battle for Hoover Dam has already happened, but who knows which group won in the show. Maybe it didn't happen. Could the Boomers, Followers, that brotherhood faction, (and maybe even so many companions people who've played FNV have grown attached to.) I know the Enclave was mentioned and had a part in NV, and there's so much more that can be done.
I normally don't get so hype about all of this, and the last show I was so excited and going crazy about was The Last of Us, and I watched that show before I played the game.
There is so much potential here and I'm beyond excited and so unbelievably nervous. I know they showed Robert House, and I'm kinda excited to see where they take it. Is Vegas still under his thumb? Could the Courier become this faceless legend?
I'm so fricken excited this is insane. Oh man, oh man oh man. Still my only thought is "Not my New Vegas." Don't you touch anything Vault-tec! You've done enough. (Also I know the major idea is it does not matter who dropped the bombs, but the idea that they did it themselves honestly makes so much sense, and pulls the argument away from people trying to blame specific countries in the fallout universe.) there's just so much here and I'm still in shock kinda, so my thoughts are being fumbled. But holy crap I need someone to freak out about this with or something. Gosh darn it! Time to watch some YouTube videos lmao.
Also also: deathclaw skull. I've been shouting for deathclaws since I started and I can't wait!!!! They better do those beasties justice, because I know FNV and fallout 3 had some nasty deathclaws. Oooooo I'm so excited!!!!!!!!!
Oh! And I found Thaddeus' situation weird so I looked for a discussion and I saw people giving the theory of him turning into a super mutant, and that makes a lot more sense to me than him becoming a ghoul. Would be awesome to see some super mutant action!

Why I don't think New Vegas was retconned
SPOILERS FOR THE SHOW PROBABLY For a little context; I am only focusing on the New Vegas retconning thing and not everything the show possible retconned or changed, etc. I'm also ignoring the timeline of the NCR being bombed because I think the timeline along with the NCR has been fucked since Todd Howard got his grubby hands on Fallout. I will be assuming that the show does take place 15 years after New Vegas though. (FNV is my favorite video game off all time. I have played through every single ending of FNV multiple times; the Fallout series has been my special interest since I stumbled upon Fallout 2 in 2006.)
All of the endings for FNV hinted at chaos and destruction. The NCR was already stretched too thin. The legion would fall when Caesar inevitably dies. House's Vegas would only allow the richest people to survive. And with the independent route riots break out with no one properly taking control. (Also I don't think I've seen anyone ever talk about how at the end of the wild card route Yes Man upgrades himself to be able to say no??? I feel like with this rouge AI he would possibly take out all the humans??? AI scares me though so this is probably just a personal thing)
Tumblr media
While they both suggest/say that in the end Vegas prevailed the show takes place 15 years after FNV. A lot can happen in 15 years, especially with no real order/controlling power.
Tumblr media
I feel like this one is self-explanatory to anyone who has fallen on hard times financially, or anyone who lives in a capitalistic society, Vegas stayed as it was at the start, with only the wealthiest wastelanders being allowed in. There's only so long a society can survive while just being one big casino.
Tumblr media
Though the slide doesn't say outright that the NCR is stretched too thin to keep a hold on Vegas pretty much every fucking character you talk to in game does- including Caesar.
Tumblr media
If Cesar lives he takes Vegas as any other city he's taken over, and that's fine until he dies. even if the brain tumor doesn't come back he wont live forever. When he dies Lanius takes over. Lanius doesn't take Vegas as Caesar took other cities, he destroys it.
So- even if Vegas wasn't bombed by VaultTec/Hank Maclean/whatever I think it would have fallen all on it's own.
If you disagree with me at all or have something to add I genuinely want to hear it. I like hearing other people's opinions and how other people interpret the same information.
If I sounded like an idiot in this please tell me that too, I am so insanely sleep deprived from moving literally all the way across the US.
