Ohio Fishing Madness intro

Well, here you are. If you're reading this, you've dug deep into the internet for anything fishing related and this is where you ended up. If you're anything like me, you think that there's no such thing as too much information. Late nights reading articles on new lures and tactics. Digging deep for that one video on YouTube that will have a tip to fill your livewell every trip. Maybe you skim social media on your break at work to see what ads pop up for the next miracle bait. Well, you're not alone. Whether you're from the Buckeye state or not, if this sounds like you, then you've come to the right place.

First, an introduction. My name is Trey Conley. I'm 28 years of age from Bellefontaine, Ohio. A little country town about 50 miles west of Columbus. I've fished my entire life. Some of my earliest memories are bass fishing farm ponds with my Dad. As I got older, we started to fish for other species and being fairly close to Indian lake we started chasing Saugeye. Our days would consist of picking the flattest rock on south bank to sit on, baking in the hot midday sun and casting a Vibe E blade bait til our hands were sore. Sometimes we caught fish, sometimes we didnt. None of that mattered though, we had fun. As I got older I started to think "Man, there's got to be more to Saugeye fishing than this." Thus began my obsession.

Living almost right in the middle of the state, I'm perfectly situated for access to some of the best fishing Ohio has to offer. First and foremost I'm a walleye fisherman. Fisherman doesn't do me justice. The way a drug addict needs his next fix is the way I need my next bite. All day and all night I think about fishing. What color, what bait, what spot. I chase everything from Bluegill to Flathead catfish, Trout in my local spring fed streams to Saugeye in the muddy lakes and rivers. I fish big water and small, but walleye are by far my favorite target species. Luckily for me, I only live about 2 hours from the walleye capital of the world Lake Erie.

I fish the Mid-Ohio Saugeye Trail with my partner Kellen Dunlap, a fellow walleye madman. He introduced me to tournament fishing and needless to say I was hooked. No pun intended. We've fished all over the state of Ohio, and recently competed in our first National tournament in St. Sault Marie, Michigan. We finished 40th out of 177 boats. Cashed a little check, but learned more than money can buy. We've got 2 more tournaments to look forward to this year. Alum Creek and a 2 day championship at Indian lake. We're in good position to make a late run at winning our trail, but the chips will have to fall in our favor.

So you're still reading? Good, cause now I'm about to get to the point. This blog will be for the casual fisherman wanting to learn the basics, to the hardcore fishhead like myself who's just looking for a good read. Hopefully I can get information across to anglers of all experience levels and sprinkle a little story or two in along the way. This isn't going to be scripted, not a step-by-step guide to catching more fish. My entire goal is to help people learn the great sport of fishing by making sure they don't repeat the same mistakes I did. I'm by no means a professional. I still learn something new almost every time I hit the water. Everything I know about fishing I've learned through trial and error. (Lots of trial, even more error) I've left the lake empty handed many times. The most important thing is that you learn from your mistakes.

Occasionally, we do something right. You caught a fish? Good, now try to remember exactly what you did when it happened. Harder than it sounds. Fishing is relaxing, and your mind wanders off to some place with sandy beaches and palm trees. Then, just when you're about to sip a mixed drink out of a coconut, THUMP.

Fish on.

How deep was your bait? How fast were you reeling? Did you pause? Snap your rod tip? Let the bait flutter to the bottom? Did the sun peek thru the clouds for a split second?

Who knows? You were off in La La Land.

This is fishing. It is first and foremost a mental game. You've got to be mentally sharp, constantly paying attention to wind speed and direction. Cloud cover, water temp and clairity. Lure selection and trolling/reeling speed. Depth. You get the idea. It's you vs fish. Man vs nature. All the technology in the world won't make a finicky walleye bite your 15$ custom painted crankbait you're trolling behind your 80 thousand dollar Ranger boat. However, that kid on the bank throwing a green twister tail is going to limit out as soon as you decide to head to the boat ramp.

This is fishing. To be successful you have to plan, dedicate time and effort, and execute when the time comes. The best part is, even when you do everything right and hook that fish of a lifetime, he can still come off right at the boat.

So welcome fellow angler. You stumbled onto what might be your new favorite fishing article. Hopefully you learn a thing or two in the posts to come. I share tips, stories, experiences, good bad and ugly. So sit back, relax and enjoy.

Okay but what if Tori met Luke much much earlier? Like when he was still on the run with Thalia and Anabeth. Tori going out to buy some sweets and Luke stealing them cause he got 2 girls to feed and Tori being all angry trying to catch him and idk... at the end she didnt catch him and forgets about it. so i’m here to remedy my forgetfulness with some hcs and a cute, fluffy drabble for ya’ll

so tori’s 12 and luke’s 13, so she steals his heart in more of a crush/squish the way middle schoolers do way at this point

a yr, maybe a few months before shit hits the fan for tori (and kinda luke since the whole thalia-getting-turned-into-a-tree thing happens ya know)

so let’s say...they’re in nyc proper, and uh luke, thalia, and annabeth are hanging out in one of their forts they built (i wish we knew more abt where they went, bc somehow they ended up all the way in west virginia at some point wow)

and luke goes out to find them food in the big city since it’s a great place to pickpocket ppl

tori, diana, and dan are out abt the town getting some mexican sweet bread as a special treat for dan getting cast lead role in his middle school play

as well as some sugary treats for tori for working hard to get her grades up (what with her dyslexia and adhd and all)

and diana lets tori carry the bag--one of those, “please let me carry the bag bc it makes me feel all grown-up and responsible” kind of things

so they’re walking down the busy streets, diana’s got both her hands in one of tori’s and one of dan’s

luke spotted them as they were exiting the baker, and see the bag tori’s holding and thinks that it’s too easy

but he’s hungry, thalia and annabeth are hungry and counting on him. instead of pickpocketing someone for their wallet and buying food (which would take too long and his stomach feels like its collapsing in on itself, so that would make concentrating hard) he decides to take an easier route

so he makes his way around them, jumping in and out of side-streets and alleys so he can get in front of them and approach from the front for easier grabbing and going

when his chance comes, he begins briskly walking, almost a jog, almost a run toward three williams, aiming for tori’s bag

he bumps her shoulder pretty hard, while making a grab for the bag

tori exclaims, “hey” and glares at him

dianan pulls tori more toward her

and luke realizes tori has a stronger grip on the bag than he thought

but he’s already a few inches away, still pulling at the bag and when tori realize’s what’s happened, her eyes widen in shock

luke takes advantage of that moment and yanks the bag from her fingers before turning and booking it

since it’s new york no one really cares abt the kid running down the sidewalk, clutching a bag to his chest like a football player

he hears a woman’s voice call out “tori!” in a panic and luke glances back to see the girl following him, running at full speed toward him, her brown eyes blazing with determination

that’s never happened before, not with a kid as young as tori

kids always screamed or cried and stayed with their parent(s) as he took off and disappeared

luke faces forward, pushing himself as hard as he can without overdoing it since he is kinda starving

but bc he’s malnourished and starving, every breath is like razor-blades in a lungs, and his visions starts to go a little fuzzy

he’s pretty sure he can hear tori’s footsteps behind him and when he glances back again, she’s gained on him

behind her are her mom and dan

desperately trying to focus, he faces forward again and calls upon the city’s map mentally and makes a route of escape

he swerves into an alley with a fence blocking off the other side, but luke doesn’t even hesitate, he throws the bag over mid-run and launches himself up onto the fence and easily scales it

tori turns into the alleyway just as he lands and picks the bag up

“give those back! they’re not yours!” she yells, going forward and grabbing the fence

at first luke thinks she’s just going to glare at him and shake the fence--many ppl have done that

but his jaw drops a little when she begins climbing it

in all the yrs he’s been on the run, this had to be the weirdest thing he’d ever seen, and that included the monsters he’d encountered

here was this tiny girl with blond pigtails, in a dress her grandma probably made for her, and mary janes scaling a fence in a nyc alley

more footsteps sound at the end of the alley, the side that tori’s on, and luke quickly darts behind a dumpster, crouching and clutching the bag to his chest

his knees are weak, and his vision now has spots, so he needs this break

he only hopes that those footsteps signaled the girl’s, tori’s, mom

and he lets out a sigh of relief when he hears, “tori”

diana is standing a few feet from the fence that tori has almost just scaled

dan is behind her, a “you’re in trouble” smirk on his face

“mom he stole our treats! i worked hard for that candy!”

“he’s not here, tori. please get down, i don’t want you to get hurt”

“he’s right there mom! behind that dumpster, let me just--”

“Victoria Anna Williams”

tori lets out a heavy sigh and begins to climb back down the fence

meanwhile, luke mouths her full name, picturing her climbing the fence. it suits her and he finds he really likes her name

“we’ll go buy some more. sometimes that happens.”

diana takes tori’s hand and squeezes, kneeling down and wiping some sweat from tori’s forehead

“please don’t run off like that again, you had mommy really worried”

“i won’t, i’m sorry.”

diana takes their hands again and they head back to the bakery

luke waits a few minutes just in case before heading back to thalia and annabeth

“wow, you got bread this time! who’d you steal it from?”

luke shrugs, “just some girl. wasn’t holding on to it very well”

“you’re face is red” thalia points out when she looks up from digging through the bag

luke starts. “is it?” he was thinking abt that girl, victoria. tori

“...yeah” thalia’s tone is like, “you think i’m lying?f”

“well i did just run a lot”

“you weren’t red before” annabeth points out helpfully

“look, i got the food okay and i’m starved, so lets dig in”

thalia and annabeth brush it off bc they’re also hungry, but while they eat all luke can think abt is looking back and seeing that girl chase him

and until they meet again, he can’t get her out of his head

fast-forward: luke’s been at camp now for abt a month or so when tori shows up again

and when he first sees her, his heart stops before doing a little somersault and he thinks, “it’s her. it’s the girl. tori.”

but he can also see she looks pretty despondent and so restrains himself from going up to her

besides what would he say, “hey i’m the kid who stole the bread and candy from you, but i haven’t been able to stop thinking abt you since bc i think i have a crush on you?” yeah. right.

besides it doesn’t even seem like she remembers him or that incident, which is kinda embarrassing bc he can’t stop thinking abt it

like in my og story, itps, they have that test to see what skill they’re good at, go into the forest to fight monsters, have more skilled campers watch over them

luke is so busy thinking abt how he could introduce himself without compeltely embarrassing himself when he realizes that tori’s in danger

he goes to her rescue, kills the hellhound, leans over her and helps her cover her wound before yelling for medic feeling insanely guilty abt everything

then he looks down at her and her eyes widen in recognition and she gasps, exclaiming, “it’s you!” before passing out

and now for the drabble :D fast-forward many yrs, they’re both alive, mid-twenties, and living together in nyc

Tori couldn’t sleep. She rolled over, reaching for Luke, but his side of the bed was empty. Still warm, though, so he’d just gotten up.

She glanced at the clock: 3am. Frowning, she sat up, throwing her legs off the side of the bed.

What in the world could he be doing at 3am?

She stood and shuffled out into the living room, which was right next to the kitchen, only separated by a breakfast bar. The lights are on and Luke is in the kitchen. Tori can see ingredients for Mexican sweet bread spread out on the table. Luke’s looking so intently at a cookbook that he doesn’t notice Tori enter the kitchen.

She wraps her arms around his waist and presses her nose into his back, inhaling his comforting scent before pulling back and resting her cheek against his spine. Luke rests his hands on hers.

“I wanted this to be a surprise.” She can hear the pout in his voice and giggles.

“Why are you making bread at three in the morning, Sticky Fingers?” she asks.

Luke sighs and turns to face her. “I wish you wouldn’t call me that.”

Tori keeps her arms wrapped around his waist, resting her chin against his chest so she can look up at him.

“Tell me to stop and I will.”

Luke presses his lips together, his eyes narrowing, but he says nothing. They’ve had the same conversation a million times before. When she woke up from that hellhound attack, Luke was there, wanting to apologize as soon as possible. She had remembered him and what he’d done, and from then on, his new nickname was Sticky Fingers.

That was also the day he came up with her nickname.

“What are you doing up, SweeTart?”

Tori groans and presses her forehead against his chest, hiding her face. “I told you, it was a phase!”

The bag hadn’t just been filled with bread, it’d also been filled with boxes of SweeTarts. A lot of them.

Luke chuckles and runs his fingers through his hair. He knows she’s joking. Much like how he jokes about his nickname.

“Go back to bed,” he murmurs. “I’ll bring you some warm milk.”

Tori is silent for a while before mumbling, “With honey.”

“Of course.”

Sighing, Tori finally lets go of Luke and pulls back. They lean in for a kiss before Tori shuffles back into the bedroom as Luke pulls out a small pan to heat the milk and mix the honey.

And as that’s heating up, he turns back to the bread. It was for their anniversary--not when they’d officially decided to go steady, but the day that he’d stolen bread from her and she’d stolen his heart.

blegh, i definitely changed tenses bc the way i write hcs and the way i write-write are two completely different styles and tenses, but i wrote the drabble immediately after i wrote the hcs and i’m tired, so switching back was a challenge. one i did not win this time around

it’s also a lil rough around the edges, but this was just a fun little, impulsive thing i wanted to do. i love me some fluff b/t my bbys, and i’m not...too terribly busy??? quite yet

thinking about it.. s3ep3 is really where things went kind of irrevocably off the rails? like there were definitely some not-good things in the rest of season 3 but his last vow takes the fucking cake for sure

like. setting mary up to have a dark secret from her past? cool! interesting! can’t wait to see what’s going on with that! making her actually some kind of mercenary/bad guy?? extra nice!!! coldblooded killer, motivations a complete mystery, putting everyone in danger, worrying moriarty (and later magnussen) parallels, multiple huge hints that she’s sebastian moran!!!! all this is great and i LOVE where this is going, give her the coolest villainous character arc and eventual downfall thru her own villainy!!!!!!!!!!

and we see her shoot sherlock. and the whole scene is fucking beautiful, like The Cinnamon Tography 😩👌💯 and the emotional impact is out of this world, he fucking talks himself thru his own imminent death, we get a glimpse into his inner psyche as his whole world is falling apart and his body is failing. we see him flatline on the operating table and the doctors give him up for dead, and the ONLY thing that saves him, what literally Brings Him Back To Life is the thought that “john watson is definitely in danger. you’re letting him down, sherlock….” the man restarts his own heart thru sheer force of will!! it’s a literal fucking fairytale!!!

(“what’s so important? whatcha got here that’s worth living for?” “truuuue looooooooove……”)

but then like…. not ten minutes after that absolutely pivotal and heart wrenching scene of death by mary and resurrection by john, we as an audience are told that…. mary……… did a good thing??? that her shooting him is justifiable because it actually saved him somehow????? even though we have literally JUST been shown in No uncertain terms that that’s not the case????????????

we’re told it was “surgery,” that she’s such a good shot that her bullet hit in the exact place it needed to to keep him alive, EXCEPT IT DIDNT. THAT LITERALLY DID NOT HAPPEN. HE CANONICALLY, FACTUALLY DIED. made a pretty fuckin big deal of it too!!!!!!!!! the writers just straight up immediately contradict themselves to try and set her up as redeemable

like if you want a character with a secret, violent past to be redeemable and for the audience to root for them, you don’t? make her?? shoot the title character in the chest???? and stop his heart???????? and then remind us mid-death scene that it was, in fact, Her who did this by showing her shooting him again in his mind (in her WEDDING DRESS no less, which is,,,, w o w … there’s some Things to unpack here to say the least)

and then, as if to pile on the insults to our intelligence as an audience, after we’re meant to swallow that we’re immediately fed this bullshit idea that sherlock and mary are somehow morally equivalent??? that they’re both just “dangerous people” and it’s ultimately johns fault that he ended up marrying a secret assassin because somethings wrong with him and he’s just attracted to these “dangerous people” who hurt him and lie to him and make his life hell

even though all sherlocks Big Lies have been for johns own safety, and mary’s Big Lies have been pretty obviously at the expense of his safety??? like they could not be more opposite in their intentions, sherlock sacrifices himself and his reputation and his relationship with john to keep john safe, while mary betrays johns trust and puts him in danger in order to keep him, to own him. “he can’t ever know i lied to him. it would break him, and i would lose him, and i will not let that happen.” that’s not love, that’s selfishness. she doesn’t want to support and protect him, she wants to possess him even if it means lying to him literally 24/7 about everything

and she!! threatens to shoot sherlock again!!!! “i will not let that happen” as she’s holding a gun!! she points it at (what she thinks is) sherlock!!!!! she is literally, actually, obviously willing to murder johns best friend, whose previous “death” emotionally destroyed him for 2 years, in order to Keep him. to Have him.

like… it fucking stings!! to have this deliciously nasty villain set up, make her deception and betrayal incredibly personal to both sherlock and john, have us anticipating an awesome bad-guy character arc culminating in an eventual dramatic and thematically appropriate downfall, what a great character!!!! but of course, Of Fucking Course, that just gets ripped away in favor of some bullshit contrived Redemption Arc

moffat and gatiss don’t seem to think of women as like. actual people who can have those kinds of character journeys? they just have to shove her into the role of the housewife and loving mother, but they don’t even do that well?? she literally never comes across as loving or affectionate or considerate, she is always portrayed as aloof and grating and seems to have no respect for john as a person. she’s like s1-s2 sherlock but without the moments of warmth and genuine caring that got us invested in john and sherlocks relationship, just the casual dismissal and lack of consideration. she like laughs at him and makes fun of him and pokes at his sore spots, they fucking. sit/sleep far apart and hardly ever touch onscreen, they kiss exactly one time and its perfunctory. everything we see about them together is Not Great and does nothing to get us invested in them as a couple

like it just… is incredible to me? that we’re expected to just swallow all this obvious bullshit and Care about mary as the loving wife and mother who eventually sacrifices herself for sherlock. in a frankly baffling scene that had me genuinely convinced for several minutes that the whole episode was fake, that one of the characters was gonna wake up and we’d be treated to what really happened (i was honestly hoping for this by the end of the six thatchers, as cheesy and unsatisfying as Another dream episode would have been)

season 3 was shaky and unstable, his last vow was the initial complete derailment, and all of season 4 was the whole train careening off a cliff and hitting the bottom with a huge cheesy cgi explosion, killing all the passengers on board. me. i’m the passenger and i’m dead inside. thanks for listening to my ted talk

A few nights ago I accidentally brushed the side of my neighbor's car with my front bumper (cause she was parked like an idiot as usual). I'm taking full responsibility of it cause it's my fault and I have no problem with that. Initially I was going to pay for the scrape to be compounded out and whatever else was wrong as a result of me hitting it. However, when I spoke to her, she started pointing out a ridiculous amount of things: there's a scratch in addition to the scrape (ok, sure), she says I cracked her light (maybe I did, it's possible) but she's also saying that I caused her tire to pop out and that there's tread missing from it (which makes absolutely no sense because I didn't hit the tire or rim or wheel well at all). Basically, she expects a whole new paint job and a set of tires which is ridiculous for the small amount of damage that was done. I want to make sure she isn't trying to take advantage of my insurance company and cause my rates to skyrocket as a result. The car is a complete piece of sh*t and she doesn't take care of it at all - the paint's dull, the rims are rusted - and I think she's trying to fix these things by making it like they were a result of me hitting her. I have no problem at all taking responsibility for the damage I did, but I do have a problem with her making things up and trying to fix other issues through my insurance company. The last claims representative I spoke with told me that I would not be contacted by the adjuster at all since there is no damage to my car. Since she's going to be talking with the adjuster and I won't, I'm afraid she's going to exaggerate the amount of damage. Should I call my insurance company and tell them this? Will they care? Back in June I knocked into a stationary vehicle in a car park. I waited for the guy to come back and apologised straight away. (when its your fault in life own up) He was initially annoyed (fair enough) but went on to tell me that someone else had knocked into his car recently and caused 600 worth of damage (the other driver had sped off and hed already had a quote for the work). I cant remember the exact wording of the next bit - but it was understood that I would pay whatever it cost on top of that to fix the area (bumper / side corner area) We exchanged details. I told my insurance company what had happened and the previous damage. There were also photos taken at the time that I forwarded on (not sure if they were actually any help) Next I hear his insurance company has approached mine with a bill for 700. The total amount for fixing his car. I brought up the matter of the previous damage - couple of conversations between insurance companies - his asking him directly if there was any previous damage and him saying no. I told my insurance company that there was a friend with me (we were walking our dogs in the park) who had heard the whole conversation - in fact she was the one that took the pictures. She is a responsible, respectable person who was happy to make a statement. I was told by the insurance company that as it was someone who knew me - they couldnt be seen as an impartial person and they ended up paying the whole amount to his insurance company. I have just received my new insurance quote. Last year it was 437 and now that I have lost my 3 years no claims bonus (I have been driving for much longer but have only owned a small van for 3 years (practicality for my dogs muddy feet) and insurance starts again for vans) but I also have this 700 fault against my name this year. My insurance quote is now 960. Is there anything I can do. Does anyone have advice for any further action I can take? I believe in taking responsibility for your actions - but I am being cheated here out of a lot of money and I dont know what to do. If 100 was down to me then I could have just paid that amount directly and not lost my no claims bonus.
