Another drawing I did for my Commander Shepard OC (I am a novice. Please forgive my mistakes 😭). I was so annoyed after the whole process that I didn't even color the damn N7 symbol🤣🤣 Not too happy with this but thought I would share anyway. As you can tell, I struggled super hard with the pistol and Omni-blade😭

I made some different lighting/color variations too just for funsies. My friends mostly agree that the darker green one stands out the best.

what are your personal favorite headcanons for meta knight?

Boy, oh BOY am I glad you asked!! You have unleashed me!!

First of all, I am very much Team White-Eyed Meta!!! (And his pretty pink cheeks!!!!!) -slams my drawing from last year on the table as exhibit A-

I respect everyone on Team Yellow-Eyed Meta since that's what is technically canon. But I just think drawing white eyes is so fun and pretty to look at... My first Kirby game was Squeak Squad and I was so mesmerized by his pretty white eyes when they were revealed for that split second! I'd replay that boss fight a bunch as a kid just to see them.

So yeah, I have the power to be in denial about a few facts for my own amusement and that's one of them. Draw and consume the content that makes you happiest, friends!! :P

About his backstory and origins, I don't have any solid headcanons of my own since I really like seeing other people's takes on it! Being Dark Matter-born, made by Nightmare, blending anime and game lore together, etc. There's so much I enjoy! His mysterious past can be frustratingly open-ended but at least it's given a lot of people the opportunity to be super creative!

I do like to think he gets more enjoyment out of a good, honest battle than he likes to let on. I mean, it's what he's best at! He fights for fun! An entire arena was built for him in Waddle Dee Town!

...So speaking of fighting, I've been doing some thinking about his powers... Like a lot of thinking. This is what I really wanna talk about!!

He's got some good old-fashioned, hard-earned skill with a sword. Probably from years of training. But his more powerful attacks use a lot of wind and electricity. That's why I think Meta Knight has the power of Storms.

Some examples of his use of wind:

One of his signature moves is Mach Tornado, after all!

Now, the bat effect to his spin in RtDL Deluxe kinda puzzles me. It just looks cooler I guess. This is a dude who put his face on his airship so why not have tiny bat particles come from your signature moves? Could just be a natural evolution of his power growing stronger, teehee.

Anyway, here are some examples of his use of electricity: (This man has a LOT of electric effects in his attacks!)

So much electricity!! Zappo! Bzzzzt!

And as a bonus, when Meta unsheathes Galaxia in the anime it materializes from lightning. THAT IS DOPE AS HELL. I don't personally subscribe to much of the anime lore, but I eat this detail UP.

Next, I used to think Meta had telekinesis because of Star Allies. All that purple aura when he lifts the rocks seems like solid evidence.

But then he does the same move in Forgotten Land and he's actually lifting the rocks with wind!! And a lot of it!! So his mastery of wind is significant to me! Probably helps him fly better too! I think his use of wind could certainly give his opponents the impression that he has telekinesis and psych them out a bit!

Finally, I used to think his duplication move was because of the Jamba Heart in Star Allies but I realized he does this in the Kirby Mass Attack mini game (whose canonicity is probably up for debate, but hey.) I'm willing to hear someone else out for an explanation because I'm stumped! Lol :P

....So yeah!! TLDR I think he is a swordsman with the power of Storms!

I'm interested to see other people's takes on him, this is just what I've made up for myself, haha! Either way, I love Meta Knight and he is super cool!! Thanks for reading!!

3 Ships Yyra Denirien x Teldryn Sero (OC x Elder Scrolls) - If you're following me and you don't know this... you must scroll tumblr with your eyes closed or something lmao. They are INCESSANTLY in my head 24/7/365. They are both so broken but trying their best and the most important aspect is that (in my canon story) their friendship happens FIRST and is MOST important before anything else occurs between them. I know all the smut I draw says otherwise, but I draw the smut because my main story is so slow-burn hahahaha. FemShep x Garrus Vakarian (Mass Effect) - I went hard for this one... it's almost like there's something about red-headed strong-willed women with snarky, non-human mercenaries with distinctive voices that just does it for me... Jude x Cardan (The Folk of the Air series) - Despite the fact these are "young adult" books, holy shit did they do something for me. Also 100000% better than any published erotica I've ever read AND a fantastic example of enemies-to-lovers. Anyways, I finished the main trilogy recently and these two have been rotating on a smaller platform in the background while Yyra and Teldryn continue to rotate in the foreground lol. I HAVE TO ADD ONE MORE, SORRY, I'M BREAKING RULES BUT NIKAIDO x KAIMAN (DOROHEDORO) HAS TO BE INCLUDED TOO, I am obsessed

First Ship I have such a hard time remembering stuff from my early life, but technically the first pairing of people that I fixated on (though this would be way before "shipping" was a thing I knew about) was Aerith x Sephiroth (despite how that canonically goes lol, but i guess i've always loved saying fuck canon).

Last Song "Magia" by Kalafina - Despite almost never watching anime, I binged Puella Magi Madoka Magica in one day (it's only 12 episodes) and holy cow that fucking show what the fuck. Anyways, the end credit song rocks and this is it.

Currently Reading Inside of a Dog by Alexandra Horowitz Attack of the 50 Foot Blockchain by David Gerard I recommend both of these so far, but I'm also only partially through them because I always take a thousand years to read nonfiction.

Last Film Dearest Sister (2016) - It's weird if I'm not watching at least one horror film in the past week, but this was actually two weeks ago? I think I need to re-watch it, but I thought it was pretty good!

mShenko appreciation post...

So... I usually (ejem... better said always, if I'm being honest XD) choose femShep in Mass Effect.

Long story short, I like to play characters in my own gender... Kinda helps a lot with the immersion, despite the fact that I look nothing like my main Shep. And, in the wise words of my brother: "If I'm gonna have to stare at an ass for hours of gameplay, I prefer it to be a woman's ass" (Nothing against men ass' on my part though... I mean, I'm a Kaidan stan 😳😳😳 but I'm week when it comes to females curves ehehehehehe sue me XD)

Anyways... Butt thing aside, I always play femShep. And the same femShep, Mio Shepard. Because I got the fanfic writer disease back when I was like 13 years old and I haven't found the cure yet, so... All I play, write and draw (because I didn't have enough obsessions already lol) related to the main ME trilogy is about my main shep and Kaidan.

I swear I'm about to make my point, stay with me for a little longer XD

Thing is, with the launch of MELE, I decided to see the mShenko romance for the first time (yep, first time... I imagine you can already tell, but I'm that kind of person that once she likes a game, she plays it a 1000 times but always in the exact same way and making the same choices in every single run).

So here we are, a year later, and here's the post about it 😅😅😅

As I told you before, I tend to focus on fShenko. I love the Shenko fandom as a whole, but from what I've seen and from the people I follow, fShenko is in need of more help, support and content than mShenko (I may be wrong here... but the moment your femshep likes dudes people tends to scream at you why you shouldn't be with Kaidan and my mission in life is to always be there to reply that idgaf about how many aliens they think I should bang XD)

Said all that, mShenko.

It's fucking awesome.

Period.

Like... Truly amazing.

Mesmerizing.

I may be biased here, because Kaidan's arc with his sexuality is very similar to my own, but, the whole "At the end of the day, I'd love you no matter what gender you were" is the most beautiful thing I've ever seen in my whole life.

I was also very surprised by the amount of differences there were between both romances... Both of them top tier. And, against all my expectations, I can comfortably say that they are equally good. So if you love Kaidan and you've only seen one side, I really recommend you to check the other (learn from my mistakes ehehehehe although I think I've enjoyed mShenko 10 times more than I would have before making a few discoveries about myself... so I'm kinda happy it took me so long. Now it feels more special to me <;3)

fShenko has all the young, pure~ish, forbidden, cute and heart-racing vibes in ME1 *chef's kiss* and then (after a bit of angst) you have the mature, long-lasting, I'd die for you romance that we all deserve.

mShenko, on the other hand, is more Kaidan focused in my opinion, which I truly like, and his realization of what is love (🎵) and what Shepard really means for him, which I find extremely cute and beautiful.

And I'll admit, I'm the first to complain about Bioware (perks of being a forever resident of the shenko vortex) but I have to congratulate them on the way they wrote mShenko in ME3.

I really thought it would be ultra cringy and forced, because that kind of evolution is not the easiest to write, but I was sooooooo wrong and I'm sooooooo glad that I was. So yay~ to Bioware on this one!

So, yup... I wanted to do a quick post and here we are now, an hour later ehehehehehe 😅😅

Anyways, and to wrap this up, just sharing an opinion (or ten) here... I was just thinking about it today and I felt like writing a post about it (there's always room for more Kaidan appreciation posts <3).

BUT I LIKE THE ZOMBIE MAN.

HELLO I’m posting some ocs because recently I’ve gotten into a new rp server and it’s like one of those usual “oh kids go to highschool and they have powers and it’s alllllll monitored by the government” BUT they allow aliens too so it’s pretty neat

I brought in a TON of my old ocs who I used to use Back In The Day when I roleplayed on my hero academia roblox servers which HAS to be the most haunting, most horrible Experience of my entire life thus far. But basically I redrew a lot of my characters who I added to the new server im in and gave them a basic little sketch design and NOW im going to INTRODUCE THEM TO YOU

The girl in red is Fuji she is very mean and very manipulative and very evil and her ability is basically she can just glitch. Like it’s so funny the universe thinks she’s an error so she constantly like fades out of existence and stutters and lags and stuff but still remains. She can glitch through walls, lag and glitch other people, and even insert something like a trojan virus into others, where she can control them remotely, albeit she won’t have control of her own body while she controls them…. PRETTY COOL, pretty EVIL!

NEXT the weird SpongeBob looking thing is literally god. I’m not joking!!! In the lore of my own universes this guy, Sir Boxers (which, fun fact, had a close friend name him and it stuck perfectly!!!) is legitimately god he has the ability to warp reality and do legit whatever he wants. Ofc for the sake of the rp I have to tone down his power so we made this super crazy dramatic backstory that he was like the reigning but benevolent king of his dimension but then he got usurped by some evil force and sent into another world, trapped in a weaker, smaller vessel that can’t do as much as his other godly form, and he’s like trying to return to his dimension to restore order… it’s a funny thing LOL he’s just a joke character

Next is T-0FF-E3 of TOFFEE, and I HAVE DRAWN AND POSTED HIM BEFORE!!! I just didn’t like his design cuz he was too skrunkly so I bulked him up. I already talked about him but basically he was a regular dude and when his powers started showing up he just like mutated into a machine. Super nice, doesn’t know his strength, I love toffeee

Next is Liberty and I very Love Her!!! She’s a little bit of a mess because she’s both like a gym bro but also a cat girl so she’s pretty funny LMAOO she’s extremely competitive and almost aggressively supportive but also has the ability to turn things into weapons!!! As long as she can put both of her palms on something she can turn it into a weapon but that does NOT mean she can use it effectively, because a) the more elaborate the weapon, the more energy she needs to use on it to create it, b) the mass of whatever she makes the weapon on doesn’t change so if she makes like a weapon out of something heavy she might not be able to pick it up and c) she has NO EXPERTISE in any weaponry WHATSOEVER lol

Next is… Romeo 😍😍😍 he’s fucking disgusting! Little Zombie Boy “died” when he was an infant of like some sort of tumor in his brain but even though he was medically dead his body just persisted on its wild Basically his ability is he has full control over every single individual cell in his body and can use his his abilities to manipulate his flesh and stuff however he pleases and can just put himself back together if he’s torn apart. He’s like that trope where people talk abt bats and they’re like THE BATS ARE MORE SCARED OF YOU THAN YOU ARE OF THEM becuz Romeo lowkey is scared of everyone NOT socially inept but he just doesn’t like to interact and because of his strict upbringing

Next is Coronette and OKAY SHES ONE OF MY ALIENS Coronette was initially a part of a species I made for transformers where this group called the crixstaline were Cybertronian minicons that escaped to another planet, initially just to colonize it but then they sorta mutated with it… anyway Coronette is similar to that but I removed all of Cybertronian stuff from her stuff and made them just a species of PURE crystal theyre so cool they have their own language and like customs and stuff and UGH I might post their lore Bible one day it’s so cool anyway. Coronette is a princess from Crixstal, which is a planet that fell to foreign alien influences, and she hates earth and is stupid and dumb and wants to go home but doesn’t know WHY she can’t go home (planet was destroyed L BOZO) and she’s an iPad kid

TWO MORE second to last is CHIP and first of all I would like to say he is named after my dog and I have three ocs named after my dog two are named Chip Mooney and one is Chip Gebelhoff and the second Chip Mooney is based off Neil cicierega—

BUT ANYWAY this is the ORIGINAL CHIP other than my dog Chip used to wear red but I made him blue bcuz it fits him better and because I wanted a rainbow with my characters designs Anyway chip has the super power of onomatopoeia which means that when he says words like Pow or Boom they actually take affect in the world around him. This is disastrous and deadly and after he unintentionally nearly killed his father by activating his powers on accident, he has become mostly selective mute. He’s really guarded with how and when he talks and he’s JUST like those redditors who write like scripts of how they’re supposed to like interact and talk with people so he specifically doesn’t accidentally say a word that might trigger his power’s affects anyway he has my favorite ability

AND FINALLLLY we have Whizzer he’s a little guy the youngest oc of the line up. HES AWESOME he’s actually a remake of one of my OLDEST OCS EVER, who was an umbrella academy oc. Whizzer has a weird little astronaut bubble head not just to protect himself from anything, but to mostly protect others— FOR YOU SEE, whizzer’s ability is that his lungs are SO POWERFUL, if he breathes, he can basically desolate an environment of all of its oxygen and even take the oxygen out of other peoples lungs. He wears his little bubble so he doesn’t suffocate no one but also so he doesn’t breathe in nasty stuff like smog or bugs all of the time cuz that??? That would be bad.

not a head cannon question exactly, but who did you romance across the bioware games (mass effect and DA)? and who do you wish you could romance?

oh damn this is a good one, and the answer for dragon age is literally everyone at least once lmao. I played the games with a small armada of wardens, hawkes, and then a smaller number of inquisitors, because I just was not as into dragon age inquisition as I was da:o and da2. but if you made me choose my favourite romance option for each individual game, then I'm going to be horribly predictable about it: morrigan narrowly beats zevran out as my favourite origins romance (like by the thinnest of possible margins, mind you, they might as well be tied); in da2 I am absolutely trash for anders, tho I have watched playthroughs of his romance with lady hawke and do not vibe with it as much as I do with dude hawke; annnnd in inquisition, yeah, I love the egg elf ok. he's horrible and arrogant and condescending and I love him, and also my lavellan low key wants to kill him now, so maybe I don't romance him properly lol

in terms of who I wish I could have romanced in dragon age, oh hell, who doesn't want to romance varric? but also since I loved the awakening expansion, I absolutely would have thrown myself off a cliff for the legion of the dead companion that game gives us, sigrun, and maybe I wrote a few little stories about her with my lady aeducan warden!! just a few, more like drabbles honestly. anyway I hope we see her again even if she isn't romanceable.

for mass effect, I have romanced all the original me1 squadmates and don't feel particularly wow'd by any of them because I am ride or die for both garrus vakarian and tali'zorah until the end of time 🙌 back when I still played the games on pc I specifically modded my game to make tali romanceable by female shepard and still am annoyed over 10 years out that she and garrus are apparently down to fuck aliens but they draw the line at being gay about it. anyway tl;dr I tried to romance other squadmates in the original trilogy, i really did, but even tho kaidan and male shepard do have a sweet arc in me3 and I found the payoff for romancing miranda successfully from me2 into me3 compelling (her carmen san diego energy is very sexy), I just. I know the type of trash I am, and I am trash for relationships between people who derive transparent joy from each other's company, have each other's backs even when they disagree with each other, and also who need help from a doctor when it comes time to fuck because they come from different planets and might accidentally poison each other if they 'ingest.'

....shit I actually forgot that mass effect andromeda existed for a moment but that doesn't really change my answer much lmao. I romanced vetra but uh, hand to god I can't remember much else about the game because it didn't really do much for me, so I don't know if there's anyone else I really *wish* I could have romanced.

so a mod dropped recently for me3 that reworks the bodyshape meshes for ashley, liara, and edi, specifically in edi's case trying to make her whole situation... marginally less ridiculous. to my knowledge it just addresses the bust, not even the fact her feet are stuck in permanent high heels mode, etc, but it's smth. anyway all this made me wonder, bc ur art beats ass and i like ur takes on mass effect: how would you reimagine edi in physical space? (not an art request rly, just love ur thots)

oohhhh EDI... robot queen of my heart, 1/2 of the reason I could never pick the Destroy ending (the other half is the geth). I love the female-identifying AI, I hate the sexbot body they gave her to LARP around in in ME3. I'm glad there are mods out there to make her less... embarrassing-- I have seen a mod already that puts her in a blue version of Joker's outfit, complete with a little baseball cap, and I love that one a lot.

As for how I would design EDI... lol aw I'm glad you like my takes on mass effect, and getting asked stuff like this is the best. First up absolutely would be to get rid of the perma-high-heels, because those are stupid and distracting and I really hate them, lol. But otherwise... I don't think I'd change base EDI that much? I think it's funny how her new human-looking body is a stolen repurposed sexy infiltration android. What I would really change is how EDI customizes her sexy android body once she's started using it-- she's a formless AI who already considers the Normandy her "body", and that's a giant spaceship, so why would she feel compelled to follow human standards of beauty with her new human-shaped peripheral-- or even standards for what a human body should look like at all?

EDI with a humanoid base but lots of fun borderline-body-horror augmentations that get more elaborate as Mass Effect 3 goes on, is what I'm saying. And maybe equipping her for battle involves sticking cool weapons to her, instead of just giving her guns to hold with her boring human hands?

And also she still gets to wear a baseball cap like Joker.

Love to draw honestly, your local free therapist since we all do need an ear to get out our issues. Gaming is an obvious one, been replaying Mass Effect currently! Biggest hobby probably be tearing through any kind of information, I'm the dumbass who digs into anything friends go to when they don't wanna look for things, gained a love of Betta fish due to that.

Likes and dislikes is the hardest for me, truthfully? I try to keep an open mind, everyone has their things, I know, the biggest dislikes probably be heights, clowns and deep open bodies of water. You probably can toss something my way and odds are I'll end up liking it, people pleaser and just raised to not hate much.

Only other comments to be made 👉👈 I kind of like lifting people up and hugging them, big cuddler, physical affection is what I am made of.

He would adore your open mind, finding the acceptance and your kindness remarkably refreshing in this ruined world, and threatening anyone who would try to take advantage of your compassion.

And man, is he touch starved. Even if he doesn't realize it at first, your constant hugs and touches always make him feel warm and accepted in a way he never thought would be possible. He may be difficult to lift, but he'll never refuse your closeness, and in time, will return it with almost as much enthusiasm.

OKAY so I finished the Mass Effect Legendary Edition about a month ago. LET ME JUST SAY: amazing. I played the first game a few years ago but couldn't quite get into the second at the time. I'm SO GLAD that I waited though, binged all three games in about 3 weeks, lol. Went through the Mass Effect funk afterwards for about two days sulking on the couch :P

Love Samara, her face shape is just sooooo interesting I absolutely had to draw her.

Suuuper pleased with it overall - I really challenged myself to do this piece. I haven't painted skin (let alone blue skin) in gouache before, and the background was difficult - I can't even draw or paint a straight line and I decided to make a cityscape *ugh*. I'm pretty pleased with it anyway :) It's based off of the concept art for Ilium!

Drinking Headcanon

Oh, this is a GOOD one for him! LOL

The couple that adopts Caleb when he is six (Ned and Nan) own a pub called Old Neddy's (it is the unofficial HQ for the Reds, too.), though it is not named for Ned, it's just a weird quirk but one that the man loves to use to his advantage. ;) Anyway, their home is in the second floor of the pub, so Caleb literally grows up there. As he gets older, of course, Ned teaches him how to tend bar (they don't mention his age at the time and he certainly doesn't tend during business hours), but along with that Ned teaches him (and anyone in hearing distance) any number of toasts to use under certain circumstances.

But the most important thing he teaches Caleb is, while anyone can make whiskey these days, the only 'good stuff' comes from good old Eire. (now, the label of 'good stuff' is mine for two reasons: a) because I do not drink whiskey, nor do I want to start (just not to my taste), and b) I've no idea which whiskeys are the best or will survive the next 150 years to be possible contenders in Mass Effect! lol Guinness, I figure, will always be there. Whiskey? *shrug* so take your pick).

Now, I've mentioned before, and it's posted in Seeing Reds, that after Ned is murdered by the Greystones, Caleb starts hunting those responsible. He will track the person who ordered the killing down eventually, during ME1 and the after effects of that confrontation result in Anderson, Caleb, Kaidan, and Ashley going to a bar down in the wards to share a few drinks. Anderson will defer to Caleb for the toast for the first two out of respect for what he's gone through and finally fullfilling his 'mission' after thirteen years. You know at the end of the reaper war, when Garrus tells Shepard, "James told me this old saying, May you be in heaven half an hour before the devil knows you're dead." Caleb will simply smile back at him because that is the first toast that Ned ever taught him.

Oh boy. Well, while my boy has a decent sense of humor, he isn't big on telling or sharing jokes. (he'll leave that to 'professionals' like Joker) Which is not to say that he doesn't have a sharp wit and won't use it occasionally when inspired. ;)

Now, after the war, once he and Kaidan are married and settling in at the orchard with Tadhg and Niamh, Caleb's position on telling jokes doesn't really change much, but he will encourage the children to tell them if they like, and he is the type of parent to not only encourage it, but even if he knows the punchline he'll pretend that he doesn't know it so they can have the excitement of sharing it. (to be fair, Kaidan does the same thing with them)

However, he DOES draw the line at Joker sending the kids a 'joke of the month' each. Some things, he just does not have the patience for after the war. :D

do you think pokemon is as bad as some christians would make it to be? i honestly just think the designs are so cool.

Oh boy, anon, you've just opened a bit of a floodgate there haha. Apologies in advance cuz I'm gonna be super blunt, a little personal, and will express some slight mockery in my answer (not to you, anon).

I despised that whole "satanic panic" that came about with the increased popularity of Pokemon esp in the 90s when I looked back in hindsight. To me it was just another example of the foolish (yes foolish!) conservative fear-mongering, and a lot of Christians often used fancy, spiritualizing rhetoric to back-up their claims and spread tons of myths. Yes I'm being provocative because while Romans 14 is a very effective way of approaching this issue (which really should be the way you approach this anyway), I personally have beef with the whole thing because I was directly affected by this Pokemon-Christian scare as a child.

I'm a creative. I've been drawing since I was 2 (or 5, I think). I loved animals, was fascinated by dinosaurs and mythological creatures, found a lot of inspiration in such things...yet I was banned from properties like Pokemon during half my pre-pubescent/childhood years because "oh no pokemon inherently evil cuz they include subtle cultural symbols I don't understand and reveal my slightly veiled-ethnocentricism, pikachu has horns it's the devil, it's animal torture, evolution!" Within the week of being gifted Pokemon Silver as a child, it was taken away, cuz of that whole Pokemon scare. That memory has stuck with me ever since and ended up giving me a bitter taste towards the kind of mass-hysterical behavior common among conservative religious people. Still working through that I guess.

Anyway, no. Pokemon as a concept is not inherently bad, and by all intents and purposes, it is harmless (but as a money-making machine? That's a different story lol). In the end, the idea of Pokemon is just another result of the creativity God has bestowed upon us as human beings in His image. It's the same way we have Chronicles of Narnia, Spyro the Dragon, Lord of the Rings, all these stories, franchises, media, etc. People get creative and wanna share it with the world and others wanna interact with it. It's how we interact with it that's important in the end, it's not whether or not we should interact, it's how.

The only reason you'd ever have to worry about Pokemon being an issue is if it ever takes over your life, becomes an addiction, actually leads you to do things that aren’t glorifying, or becomes an idol before God Himself (and I suppose maybe the whole business model of the company in charge, but that's entirely different and somewhat unrelated can of worms).

Space Ghost Coast to Coast #82: “Baffler Meal” | January 1, 2003 - 12:00 AM | S08E01

An all-time classic, wonderful episode. Ending 2002 on a high note (technically this is the first episode of 2003 being that it aired at midnight, but I’m delaying my EPHEMERA CORNER post for as long as I can).

The origins of Aqua Teen Hunger Force are laid bare for all to see with Baffler Meal. Aqua Teen Hunger Force was famously based on a rejected Space Ghost script. Well, this is that script, re-imagining the Aqua Teens based on old designs and concepts from that unproduced episode. The desired effect is to approximate what that episode would have been like had it been produced in 1999 before the Aqua Teen Hunger Force series proper was developed. It’s supposed to be confusing; to the point where in the DVD commentary track they even question weather or not they should make it clear within the commentary that that’s what’s going on here (they do).

I will now take this opportunity to quote one of my favorite synopses of a TV show ever, originally taken from tvtome (remember tvtome? god, what a great site):

Space Ghost is forced into a raw deal with the deadly Colonial Man, forever altering the future of classic rock - again. Willie Nelson and a MOCKERY of the Aqua Teen Hunger Force star in this episode. This episode mocks a great comedy show. It doesn't feel funny in the least.

Here you can see the lack of understanding for what the episode really is. Despite the fact that the ostensible Space Ghost fan (tvtome was run by volunteer submissions for it’s episode data) should one-thousand percent understand the Space Ghost connection, clearly recognize Dave Willis’ voice (he still voices Meatwad in a very similar manner), etc. The degree of confusion this episode caused can not be understated.

Nuggets from the DVD commentary:

Frylock is a guy in a costume in this. Okay, that wasn’t specifically from the DVD commentary, but it’s the first time I caught that detail, ever, and I don’t want to start a separate bullet-point list for stray observations.

Shake’s read of “blahd” instead of “blade” was inspired by a real typo in the script, just like “Branford the Branford” before it.

Todd Hanson of The Onion helped write this episode and kept pitching a character named Napkin Lad. I believe Napkin Lad actually comes to be later in the Aqua Teen series.

And another thing I love: The cool song at the end. The part where Dave is like “OH BABY, YEAH BABY” etc. towards the very end of the episode? That part gets stuck in my head like, VERY FREQUENTLY, and for years I thought it was Bob Odenkirk singing in either a Mr. Show or Ben Stiller Show sketch and have been trying to place it forever. Turns out it wasn’t Bob, but David, and I ain’t talkin’ Cross, do I sound cross to you? Do you even appreciate wordplay??

NEXT is my end-of-the-year roundup of second-run premieres, shorts, commercials, bumpers, etc. That’s right, EPHEMERA CORNER is back! But it’s gonna be a long one so I might break it up over the course of a few days, maybe a week, even.

Brak: against, but respects the office of the presidency and urges using civil methods to protest. Carl: pro, he is a white supremacist and is supportive of any and all mass destruction committed on non-white nations. Hesh: HESH WANTS SOME SEX! lol. Junior Addleburg: has not been told about the war.

Do you think you are being overtly charitable to Brak this time around? Surely the best Brak show episode isnt even half as good as the worst Home Movies episode. Right?

I do tend to react to “better” Brak episodes the same way you encourage a problem student when they squeak out a B minus. There absolutely was a time when I loved The Brak Show and was all-in on it. That time was SEPTEMBER 2nd-8th, 2001. Hippo was certainly a factor. 9/11 may have also contributed.

I don’t think I’ve said this yet, but I’ve been keeping a running episode ranking of Adult Swim shows as I’ve been doing this. It’ll probably get revised at some point, so I’m not exactly ready to share it. In my ranking I tended to group Home Movies episodes very close to each other, and I would sometimes talk myself into ranking things a little higher or lower than I normally would just to break up a long streak of Home Movies. So I can actually say with impunity, yes, there are strong episodes of Brak Show that I've ranked over weaker episodes of Home Movies. But I might have to have a little chat with the man in the mirror about that.

Are you only doing animated shows or are you going to do live animated shows to. I feel like most people agree Tim and Eric bringing live-action to the block ruined it permanently even if you think those guys are funny in a vacuum. I'm just wondering because I know you did animation only for your Simpsons Night B-sodes so I feel you are a "tooned-in" guy.

Live-action is getting reviewed too! I can’t WAIT to revisit Saul of the Molemen. Are you fucking kidding me? I’m not sure where to draw the line on the internet stuff, though. If it aired on Adult Swim I’m very likely to cover it, but I don’t see myself covering the FishCenter repeats that aired at 4AM. Anime is generally getting the shaft. Sorry. I think it’d be cool if somebody started a blog that covered Adult Swim Action. But yes, you are right, I’m a pretty tooned-in guy. Lots of people have said this about me.

If you had to dress like any of the Adult Swim First Era characters for Halloween who would you dress as and who would you LIKE to dress as if difficulty of pulling it off wasn't an issue.

There was a Space Ghost muscle suit at one of those Halloween Stores one year and I very nearly bought it even though I had no intention of wearing it for Halloween. I did a very low-effort season 4 Hank Venture because by happenstance my hair looked like his at the time, and I found what looked like Brock’s jacket at a thrift store.

Putting on a blue Sealab uniform and only traveling in a chair with wheels would be real fun. I could probably pull of an effective Carl. As far a difficult costume I’d be the poolside announcer during the O.G. bumpers, because I imagine that he’s very muscular and his dick is real long and it’s constantly flopping out of the pantleg of his swim trunks and that it’s getting sucked off all the time by them old ladies and most of the time he’s like “no no, we mustn’t do that, for I am a professional” but every now and again he’s like “well alright” and this would reflect my experiences at whatever Halloween party I’m at except it would be a 20 year old woman dressed like an old lady because it’s Halloween. Thanks for the question.

I’m not done with the last thing. I would also have a bullhorn and I’d be using it while getting sucked off, even though that’s a discreet affair. Like, we’d find a bedroom that was empty and lock the door and I’d be like “Oh yeah baby suck my peenie, yes you are doing so good at sucking that.” in hushed tones, but into the bullhorn. I’d also use it to yell at children for wearing racist or appropriative costumes, which, as we all know, leads to more getting-your-dick-sucked. a mass effect trilogy appreciation post 💕

so i completely forgot about trilogy appreciation week, and i haven’t had a lot of time lately to draw new stuff so i wanted to post some older mass effect drawings from about 6 or so years ago - drawn at the peak of my mass effect obsession when i was still in the middle of playing it so they are very dear to me (even if my art has improved since then lol). anyway read on if you want some personal thoughts & feelings on the series that has probably had the biggest impact on me as a person! <3

i think i can date this back to summer 2015 ish, before i even started my art blog! i always loved ashley and was very sad when i had to sacrifice her on my first playthrough as i was romancing kaidan :( i was studying english lit at uni when i played ME for the 1st time, and i was always inspired by ash’s love of poetry.

me playing mass effect for the first time also coincided with me properly getting into digital art, so a lot of my early pics are experimental lol XD the car chase in LotSB is still a favourite every time i play it, it has my favourite banter scenes from throughout the whole trilogy

i made this^ in response to playing mass effect 2 for the first time and being pleasantly delighted by the friendships you can make. i blasted through ME1 quite quickly and often forgot to talk to my crew members between missions, missing out on important info & bonding - this ofc led to wrex DYING (!!) and when i reached ME2 i was like. i Must talk to everyone. and i loved that even though i wasn’t romancing anyone in 2 (faithful to Kaidan), the friendships and bonds you create still feel as meaningful and good despite the lack of romance.

also an early 2015 pic, i was attempting to draw without lineart for the 1st time, and let me tell you this piece took SO LONG -_- I love Tali a lot though and the mission where you take her to Rannoch for the first time in ME3 has always stood out as one of my faves. Additionally, this quote has always stuck around in my brain;

"After time adrift among open stars, among tides of light and to shoals of dust, I will return to where I began."

can’t resist a cheeky samantha pic. i don’t need to go into tooo much detail about how much i adore samantha traynor but she really means a lot to me! her romance was one of the first ones i stumbled across, pre-mass effect playthrough, and it suddenly made me sit and think. hey samantha is gay and just wants a dog and a wife etc. maybe i can Also have that. maybe that is Me.

not to keep the serious introspection for last or anything, and also congrats if you read this long (apologies for the long post & the rambling) but. idk mass effect is still my favourite thing ever - even if i dip in and out and enjoy different things, mass effect is always going to be closest to my heart and i love it very much. ty to the people in the fandom that i’ve interacted with over the years, both on this account and my main @itsacuriousthing​ - again i havent been doing much of that recently but i am always grateful for the nice people making fanfiction and fanart. u guys are the best, truly 💕

Cyberpunk 2077 - Endings (spoilers)

Short version - I'm not super happy with them.

I don't think every game should have a truly happy ending. Dragon's Dogma, for example, pretty much has exclusively terrible endings for your character. If you play all the way through everything and win, your soul dies and your slave gets your body and capacity for emotions (so, good for them, shit for you). And I love that ending.

Cyberpunk is in the same boat - but I hate the endings. You either actually die or you have 6 months at best, then you're gonna die. There's an implication in one ending you may find a cure but like...

It probably wouldn't bother me if the game was like Dragon's Dogma, in that the bad stuff happens to *you*. Not your friends and family. You're the one who gets cursed - your friends go off and do their own thing. So, when you're faced with death, it's only you and how you feel about your choices and circumstances. I also didn't mind the Mass Effect 3 endings, at least in that I didn't hate having to sacrifice EDI and the Geth - because there was a greater good to be worried about. They'd be gone or converted anyway if I did nothing, so it's a shitty ends justify the means situation, but at the same time, it had to be done for the rest of the galaxy to live. Plus, the whole game has that air of fatalism - I'm gonna die, but you're gonna die with me, fucknuts - so it feels like a natural thing when it gets to the point you can't save everyone.

Cyberpunk doesn't have that. I get chosing between V or Johnny, that part is fine. It's the fact Johnny gets to be happy if he lives - he gets to live however long your body has left, presumably 60+ years. V, on the other hand, gets 6 months at best.

I didn't do all this shit, and *kill Johnny*, who I actually really like and befriended, just to be told I extended my life expectancy by *6 fucking months*. I like V, I didn't go the extra mile to get the best possible ending and get told "she still gonna die, lol, oops".

At that point, it's like fine, fuck it, let V die every time, because they're gonna die anyway, so what's it matter? A cutscene with my romantic interest? Why would I want to give my romantic interest *more* trauma by drawing this shit out? I romanced them because I like them, which is usually associated with wanting them to be happy, not watch their lover die slowly after giving them false hope they'd live.

I don't need happy ending for V and Johnny to be the normal ending. But if I go out of my way to do all this shit, I feel like it should be a damn option. I genuinely thought for like 90% of the game that I'd be able to get Johnny out and put him in like, what was supposed to be Saburo's immortal robot body because that old fuck oozes "I'm too important to die like you peons" energy. Or like, clones, maybe clones, then they slide the engram in and pop, fresh body, old soul. So Johnny gets the original body but V still lives somehow.

Just, anything better than "you're gonna die anyway, shithead, thanks for wasting 20+ hours". Maybe a DLC will fix this - Johnny goes out of his way to bring V back, or V is out getting themselves cured. Hope so.

I’m going to do a quick analysis on the pieces I felt I learned the most from during Artfight2020. I made 20 character illustrations over the course of a little over a month, got to draw a lot of different characters and environments, and would like to catalog what I feel I gained from it in terms of technique and process. A little Post-Mortem, if you will. Normally I would draw a little cartoon or something as a header but I’m tired lol. These are not really in any order. I am going to include the username of the characters’ owners but am not going to “@” them as not to annoy anyone, these are just kind of my personal thoughts about my process. 

Burn Forever - Character owned by @/evilbeards. Really love the colors in this one, it makes it look very regal, while also reminding me of medieval antiquity. This is the best fire I’ve done in awhile because it has both pleasing shapes, and a variance in hues within the flame. I made a point to remember this when I did “The Last Candle Burns”. I also really went all in with uplit lighting that clung to every crag in Tel’s face and think it paid off, it made me more confident that I could pull off more scenes with dramatic lighting in the future. Also, knocking the top of the throne of branches out of black and into dark blue gives an effective illusion of distance.

Bloodline - Characters owned by @/SaltiestGoat (twitter). A solution to characters presented primarily in black and white was to make the colors more symbolic than naturalistic - the story these two characters (who are father and daughter) were presented with was extremely vivid, and so it wasn’t hard to distill it into motifs that could be represented with color - power and violence as red, which is both compounded and spread via war/material wealth (gold), a cyclical relationship that is bright and searing against a cold, grey world. And white as something strange/supernatural and unearthly (eyes and teeth). Something I like when viewing art on a digital screen as opposed to a print or an original is the way that the brightest value of white feels like a stabbing pinprick, it really feels like it shines and elevates it a bit. But, anyway, using so much black was kind of a leap of faith, but it allowed for me to capture the sort of dreamlike atmosphere I was going for.

Dern It- Character owned by @/slabmangrave. Another one of those leaps of faith in using a lot of black, this time to create an illusion of depth implying that perhaps Hogarth here has been wandering around in an endless, stabbing field of cactuses, injecting a little humor, but also the vastness of the landscape. I found it a fun challenge to try and muster up a desert scene in a setting that effectively has no sun (relying on cool colors). The purple was a last minute addition that I ended up really liking, as I think it did better to silhouette The Teeth. I also used very minimal “line coloring” on this - something I really like about the source material is the textural mark making, and I feel like the starkness of black makes things have a little more of a tactile quality, in this case. I also think I might be on to something, representing specks of floating bits as small, short lines.

It’s Coming For You Through The Trees - Character owned by @/peg-head. One, I think this is my favorite set of teeth. I think the uneven quality of the two front teeth really sells it I also found it a fun challenge to change the camera up and have it be looking from a little ways below - I don’t think I entirely sold the concept of the character handing an object down to the viewer, but I think it’s a lot closer than my other attempts. I also liked using what was mostly a limited color palette, and getting to have a more desaturated, naturalistic range of colors. And like I said before, I love that small, stabbing pinprick of white light on a computer screen, and I think it works really well here.

Grease Monkey: Character owned by @/night-margie. This one may have been the most extreme test of my abilities, as I usually try to stay away from background elements that are inorganic, if I can help it. But I’m in the throughs of working on my own sci-fi setting right now and figured I should challenge myself. Not quite limited colors per say, but I think the division of gold and violet light works to separate the different areas of the piece (I tried it first just with blue but found it to be way too homogenous). Not entirely successful in regards to making a character look like they are seated beyond the lip of an object, but I think the pleasing shapes the character creates make up for it…but just barely, lol. I think this has a good balance of black negative space to grimy such-and-such, and am pretty pleased with the stylization of electrical sparks. I’ll have to experiment with it further.

Cryptid Sighting: Character owned by @/gnarliegnasties (twitter). First of all I think the thing this encouraged me to do the most was invest in more abstract, stylized background elements to create the illusion of depth, and I really gotta keep that in my comic-ing back pocket . Typically, I don’t tint my blacks entirely - I usually just color objects and edges that I feel are of special interest, or need to look more cohesive (as is usually the case with seams in clothing or armor, or a character’s fingernails). But In this case, I felt tinting them violet would make the environment feel more lush, and would also attractively frame the warmer blue of the character. This is a color scheme I haven’t tried (teal, purple, blue-green and a light orange-red) and I really enjoy it.

Summersong: Character owned by @/satourni. I really love the colors on this one - but, this is one of those pieces where I feel like I could do it better if I tried again! I definitely learned a lot from - I don’t think the underwater effect around the character is quite convincing, and would have been better served with the surface being visible in the gap between Kester and the camera. I’d also say the small, beadlike drops of water are more effective than the really big, heavy ones. I’d love to do more underwater scenes - makes me homesick! 

Hail To The King - Character owned by @/ petarvee (twitter). This is the one that I think I put the most time in that yielded the least satisfaction for me - I definitely feel like I overworked it. Snakes and creatures with likewise long necks are hard to draw, they need to taper in a way that feels natural, and I don’t think I really sold their feeling of mass - and the way it squishes and stretches - to my preference. I also stepped out of my comfort zone with the brighter, more saturated colors, and though I like the hoodoos, I think the rest of it is a little too discordant, despite my efforts. Should’ve had a stronger light source, or focused less on spectacle and more on portraying the character. I bit off a little more than I could chew with the hydra. I admit, I really like this artist’s work and was anxious about doing something for him - so, I ended up trying a little too hard to make something flashy. But, better to have rose to a challenge and failed doing something ambitious than to do something boring, I suppose.

In summation: 

-Let shapes made out of solid colors or black create illusion of distance or more objects.

-More limited color palettes seem to yield the best results for one-off illustrations, I’m still a little new at coloring compared to other people and need to remember that. I need to “grind” a little more. 

-A painted-in highlight accentuating an edge can both imply a stronger light source, and be a way to separate shapes too similar in value. But don’t overdo it or it becomes a little obnoxious. 

-Knock back an object with color to make them feel further away - you know, atmospheric something or another. 

-Balance black negative space with textured surfaces - it shouldn’t be a clean 50/50.

- Those little hash marks do a pretty good job at varying texture and particle effects. Use em more.

This took me too long to edit...

Following on from completing inktober2019, here is the completed collection of my 2020 project "30 markers, 30 fanarts". The idea was to merge Inktober and Huevemeber practices into an end of year project with the added stipulation of every drawing being a fanart of a different character I love.

I wanted to try focussing on colour theory and composition for this project – markers seemed like the best traditional tool to really force me to. I don’t actually own a lot of markers, and what I do have isn’t necessarily artist grade. In and of itself, that was actually a reason I paid more attention to how I was using colour and how to vary it.

With some drawings, I kept it simple and just paid attention to how to layer the markers to get different effects. A few of these types were redraws of screenshots or official art and I feel like I really learned the most about actually using markers from those.

With others, I tried more interesting compositions to explore how to use colour in more dynamic or unusual ways. It was mostly on these that using markers gave me a lot of grief – I would often have an idea of what I wanted the outcome to be, but no idea on how to use markers to get there. There was a lot of experimenting. Some of it worked and some of it didn’t…

Also, for funsies, every drawing has some gold or silver on it somewhere. It wasn't planned but by the end, almost all of them had some anyway, so I went back and added it to what didn't. Even if that was one tiny dot in someone's eye somewhere.

At the end of this project, I have confirmed my previous conclusion that I just don’t like using markers that much (lol). I’ve definitely learned more about using them, how to layer them and how to use what I have to achieve different things. But I doubt they’ll ever be one of my go-to mediums.

Somehow, one of the hardest parts of this whole project was just coming up with 30 characters that I liked that fit into the colour schemes. In all honesty, there was some shifting and some finagling and some manoeuvring right up to the end of the project. But I’m happy with the set I chose; I think it’ll be interesting to look back at this selection in a few years and see who will have been replaced and what new characters will make it.

Overall, per usual, I went into this project boldly and bravely, regretted it halfway through, and now appreciate what I learned and accomplished at the end.
