Animal of the Day!
Greater Bulldog Bat (Noctilio leporinus)
(Photo in public domain)
Conservation Status- Least Concern
Habitat- Central America; South America
Size (Weight/Length)- 12 cm; 70 cm wingspan
Diet- Insects, Fish; Crustaceans
Cool Facts- The greater bulldog bat has the most unique hunting behavior of any bat. Circling over a pond, these bats use echolocation to sense ripples in the water from jumping fish. The greater bulldog bat then rakes its claws along the surface of the water as it flies only inches about the water. Once a fish is caught, the bat curls its tail up to secure the wriggly prey in a pouch. Females live in small groups with a dominant male at the head. Sadly, these bats are targeted for extermination due to their ability to carry rabies. Water pollution also threatens their main food sources. Despite the odds, these bats are still going strong.聽
Rating- 12/10 (Fish fear them, women want them.)

Are there any bats that grab stuff with their hind claws like birds do?
For context, I often have dreams about turning into a bat monster and causing chaos.
The monster bat has had many traits I thought were unrealistic enough to be monster traits, but turn out to coincidentally be traits of a real bat species. I'm able to grab stuff like a bird in these dreams, and I want to know if that's also an accidental real bat trait.
Well....bats roost by grabbing on with their hind legs like birds do (just upside down), so just about every single species of bat.
But if you mean more like how hawks catch their prey with their talons...yes, several species do. A specific example that comes to mind is Noctilio leporinus, also known as the greater bulldog bat or fisherman bat, which uses it claws to hold on to the fish it eats.
As for sceficically grabbing birds though...there is at least one bat species that is known to eat birds (among other things), Vampyrum spectrum (aka the spectral bat), but it doesn't use it hind claws to grab stuff, it uses its thumb claws on its wings.

Monster pet menagerie!
The pets were one of the best things about Monster High and I was sad when they stopped doing them for the line. What鈥檚 neat is that there are variants to certain pets like like Freshwater Lagoona鈥檚 fish is purple, not pink (and has a blue bowl), Dustin and Crescent get a different look for Freak du Chic, Crossfade is a different color depending on which side he comes with and Cushion鈥檚 quills coincide with her owner鈥檚 hair color. Also I have no idea how I got so many doubles, esp hedgehogs!
They did kind of try with the reboot; Ghoul鈥檚 Beast friend CLeo came with this adorable kitten! Unfortunately she sticks out amongst the original pets as she鈥檚 SO much bigger. Oh well, still cute:)
