first up:

Boyfriends Webtoon

i love this comic man. sometimes i don’t t feel like reading a super unique artistic piece with a super detailed and meaningful story, i just want something to keep my mind off the depressing news. i don’t understand all the hate so heres some of my fave things about it.

simple plot and simple characters - its so easy to understand everyone and super refreshing from convoluted stories. i don’t have to think hard about anything and i still get the full story. sure it relies on tropes but all stories have tropes. its a writing tool not the end of the world

great art - the art may not be the new van gogh or mona lisa but thats a good thing. its super easy on the eyes and gives the happy carefree vibes i definitely need after a long day. i have issues recognising things and have a colour sensitivity and this comic is one if the few i have no issues with

its comforting - sometimes people forget that what they don’t like isn’t universal. i like this comic. its like a warm blanket during a depressing day. it might bot be for you but it doesn’t give an excuse to hate ppl who like it. don’t like, don’t read

its silly - its a slice of life about 4 boyfriends navigating their polyam relationship. what else would it be. the characters may not feel real but thats ok cuz its a story. its not real and it doesn’t have to be real.

their relationship is adorable - they do seem to love eachother and is probably the healthiest gay polyam relationship i’ve seen in a while. too much of media is about how hard polyam relationships are and mostly straight ones too. its nice to see something i can relate to

genuine question Why does everyone hate that one boyfriends webtoon … like it’s not my cup of tea, i don’t love the story, but i don’t like how everyone Harasses the creator so much. i really don’t think it’s that huge of a deal, especially how everyone calls the creator a “fetishizer” when he’s literally a trans man. idk did he do something horrible, or does the webcomic promote horrible stuff? i just can’t figure it out

Hey, just so you know, if you like He*rtstopper as a BL story but shits on Boyfriends, you’re a loser. 

Boyfriends was made by a POC transman who do not have the privilege Al*ce has to express himself safely, and the webtoon is where he can find supports from fellow queer folks, and for some dumbass reason he’s problematic for his portrayal of queer people. EVEN THOUGH HE’S QUEER. 

You are more than valid to criticize him for the racist things he said in the past, but uplifting He*rtstopper, whose author constantly shit on Japanese BL works despite taking direct inspirations from them and herald her own work as “superior” (it reeks of typical Westerner queer xenophobia ew), while labeling Boyfriends as a “trash representation” (what the fuck does that even mean?) makes you a loser. 

Especially when it was the same people who uplifted He*rtstopper going batshit and forced one of its main actor to publicly out himself. Look at your own asses before throwing rocks.

Why do people hate the Boyfriends web comic that fucking much?

It's not like it's great or anything, but it's not an assault on the eyes and its exactly what people asked for too. Think about it, people talked about goth-y men, you got gothy trans guy; pastel gays, a pastel gay; gay jocks, a gay jock; nerdy gays, blue-haired one. Its what so many people asked for in full sincerity then shat on because that was apparently wrong.

It's not like the shorts are badly written either. They're slice of life and follow the characters. Nothing bad, it just happens.

People just saw the "choccy milk" scene and fucking freaked out because someone dared to act cute. Those people then proceeded to let out a sleugh of diarrhoea all over the series. I haven't seen loads of it, just a few couple-minute-long scenes, and its really inoffensive. Sure the pastel guys vouce gets a little grating sometimes but he's really not that bad.

Do I like the series? No, it's not my sort of deal, and that's fine, its obviously for someone else, but I will defend this show to the ends of this earth because you cunts asked for it and still cried when you got what you wanted.

I actually started reading Boyfriends and I gotta say, its not as bad as I thought itd be. Its just...kinda cringe so far, thats really it. Like the artstyle, its cute. Characters are ok, kinda flat but not horrible. Prep is probably my least favorite, his whiny-ness is annoying.

To be fair im only on episode (or "Track") 28, it might get worse as I read. We'll see.
