-Ordinarily, she wasn't the school dance type. But since you, one of her favorite people (her "best pal" as she'd say) asked her, she'd never say no.

-You were floored when you saw her. Akane was in a gorgeous sunset-toned cocktail dress, with sequins that gave it a retro flair.

-"Ya like it? It was my mom's... she told me it'd be back in style one day." She was absolutely radiant.

-You had gotten her a corsage, and she could sense your nervousness putting it on her. She helped put your matching corsage/bouttoniere on to ease the anxiety.

-When you arrived, she linked her arm with yours, walking proudly as she greeted her friends.

-Even though everything was going splendidly, you couldn't help but feel nervous. You still had something to do, after all.

-You found it difficult to dance, but Akane loved it, actually. Turns out her agile moves in combat and gymnastics translates well to dancing-- and she wasn't going to let you stand there by yourself.

-She laughed at your missteps, and guided you with her hand. Eventually, you got the hang of it!

-The night continued, and as time passed, the mood changed: the peppy, fun music had been replaced with every teen's worst fear: the love songs meant for two.

-But this was your chance. You gathered your courage and asked her for a dance, after a night full of the opposite.

-For the first time that night, Akane's moves were shaky and unsure. Slow dances weren't her forte, and nobody had taught her how.

-She tried to laugh it off. "Haha, sorry for stepping on your shoes, y/n. Hope you can forgive me!"

-It eased your nerves. A song you knew, one you loved dearly came on, and you told her why you'd brought her tonight: your feelings for her.

-Akane froze. She'd never been told that before... most people just took advantage of her, or took pity on her home life. It felt like platitudes, most of the time.

-You... you like me? Like, for real? Well, uh, me too-- You're the best! Let's stay together, yeah?"

-She's not exactly a master wordsmith, but incredibly genuine when it counts!

Hate the discourse around Eliot Page's Met Gala outfit. An ill-fitting suit and a bouttoniere with sneakers reads very High School dance, a staple of American culture and extremely on theme. Outside of any other context or symbolism, they probably have one of the better more on brand fits for this event, even if it's simplistic in its design.
