looks up. i regret to inform you all that i’ve seen another post today. the faunus woman who led vacuo during the great war was not a queen and almost certainly not of royal descent as the asturias family claims to be: it is stated repeatedly in the CFVY novels that the last time vacuo had any kings or queens was centuries ago and that very little of the historical record has been preserved (with 9.11 reiterating the novels’ point that this is a consequence of colonial occupation in the intervening centuries).
and from the world of remnant episodes pertaining to vacuo and the great war, we know that modern-day vacuo did not have a formal government until after the great war; it was not a state, it was an occupied territory under mistrali control. the faunus woman who led vacuo’s forces was the leader of the vacuan movement for independent statehood and likely became a member of the ruling council established after the war—which is now defunct and has been de facto replaced by shade academy.
please. BLEASE. the great war began about ninety years ago it has not even been a century. the vacuan monarchy is “ancient history.” finn talks about his mother—who would have been a contemporary of nicholas schnee, who was born right after the great war—and her mother, who would have lived through the great war, and his grandmother’s father, and his grandmother’s grandfather, and his grandmother’s grandfather’s mother. rumpole—who is an actual historian—flat out states that it was so long ago, and war and colonization so thoroughly degraded the historical record, that all that remains is legends and uncertain guesswork.
the asturiases having no blood relation to the faunus woman who led vacuo in the great war doesn’t prove or disprove anything because even if she did style herself a queen and claim royal descent the vacuan monarchy ended so long ago that her claim would have been unverifiable mythmaking too.

I'll kill you! I'll kill you! I'll kill you! I'll kill you! I can fight! Pierce me with a hail of bullets, rip my body apart, and I can still fight! Maybe I'll die here, but I can still kill them all!

my friend recently adopted the SWEETEST little dog who it turns out she might have to rehome because the people who she adopted it from said the dog could be left alone for long periods of time, but they lied, and that doesn’t really fit with her lifestyle (she needs to be out of the house for work and school and stuff). of course that DOES fit with MY lifestyle, since i work from home and also i have a huge yard already decked out for dogs (for when my brother visits) and nearby hiking/walking trails, and the puppy (ok he’s not a puppy he’s like 1.25 years) is SO cute and EXACTLY the kind of dog i would want if i ever got a dog--he’s a chihuahua mix of some kind, so he’s small, but he’s also calm, friendly, cuddly, not too stinky, not too slobbery, he does bark but not too often, AND he is good with cats, and omg i want to adopt my friend’s dog so badly you guys! i haven’t told her yet because i would need to clear it with the rest of the household, and also i don’t know how hawkeye & bj would get along with him...also she might be able to train the separation anxiety out of him, and if that doesn’t work, her parents would probably adopt him, so it’s unlikely that it would even come to this. but i’ve always wanted a dog like this little fella! like i want to put him in a little red bow tie and a rainbow baseball cap with a propeller and send him off to his first day of kindergarten, i wanna make him a little wizard hat and a cape with moons and stars on it and take him for magical walks in the mysterious woods while we search for treasure, i wanna give him a studded collar and a leather jacket and carry him around in a louis vitton purse while i wear oversized sunglasses and pretend like we’re better than everyone we meet and i wanna order him a small cup of whipped cream at starbucks while i drink some kind of complicated caffeinated iced beverage. i’ve got it BAD for this dog you guys! i am SICK with it!!!

I’ve decided that Sam has a Dell laptop #1 because they tend to run cheaper, and #2 because for story purposes I need him to have a cd drive in it. Will The Youths understand my fanfiction? Probably not.

It always throws me off in fic when Jonathan’s described as solely watching foreign movies with subtitles or completely preferring books to movies. Like I bet he does enjoy some foreign movies, and we know he likes to read, but he’s also canonically into The Evil Dead, a low-budget American horror movie with a pretty basic plot. I don’t think he’s that picky. He dislikes Mr. Mom, but I think that has more to do with it being a mild comedy about upper-middle-class parents (i.e., boring and unrelateable to him) than it not being artsy enough. I think he’d enjoy Caddyshack.

file under things i want to stew over a little more to fully process what im trying to say but like. i think its very interesting how the first childs play movie of course shaped how the rest of the franchise would be even at its core concept and how so much of its base dna was stuff that wasnt (as far as i managed to learn) in don mancinis original script. like the things that i feel are quintessentially eighties about it and that while making it a really good movie with some strong suspense and scares also made it pretty glaringly focused on a rather conservative view of domesticity and childhood during those times (that, also as far as ive read, is not there in the apparently more original-concept-faithful remake with aubrey plaza and mark hamill which im still unsure i even want to watch).
bc at its core the first three movies are about a child being preyed on through an invasion of the domestic space by the outside influence of an evil adult man who hides under the guise of friendship, and uses "dark magic", specifically voodoo, a religion directly linked to african-american communities that is exoticized and vilified in practise through the movie (even though john ambrose is, i think, meant to be a neutral figure, what is meant has little to do with the overall impact of the movie itself).
i feel like apart from the silliness of the general plot by itself the comedy that becomes more commonplace later on also works wonders to soften the blow of the image of this villain whose literal purpose is to corrupt and possess children. and the idea of corruption for corruptions sake/parallels with deals with the devil and how violence begets violence and even heroes become alienated through their struggle to survive is something i find fascinating and that i wish had been better explored in seed tbh, and its something i hope this next season of the series delves deeper into (tho im not holding my breath). but im glad that those recap articles on bloody disgusting of the series' queerness in season 1 also noticed what ive been a bit (possibly intentionally) uncomfortable with. those couple scenes in which sexuality, especially burgeoning sexuality/first romantic feelings are compared (comically, but still) to murder. its a joke but its still part of the basis of the whole franchise, that there is this corrupting force infiltrating families and targeting children. i think thats why i find it so smart for don mancini and the writers team of the series (whether intentionally or not) to both show that theres violence even in the supposedly safe space of the domestic and the family and that queerness is not the product of an outside influence corrupting the kids but something that even if it is the excuse of bullies to torment them its also what allows them to bond with others and find safety and comfort and connection.
