Once Upon a Time in Monaco | Chapter Three
Everyone knew that Monaco was a special race weekend but you weren't quite prepared for exactly how special it would be. Glitz, glamour and yachts, you had arrived.
Word Count: 4.5k
Warnings: This one is a slow burn so none
Author’s Notes: Disclaimer, purely fiction, no-one is married in this alt-universe.
WEDNESDAY PM
You arrived in Monte Carlo on a bright and sunny Wednesday afternoon, having enjoyed a whistle-stop tour of Brackley the day before. You’d been pleasantly surprised by your office space, it was roomy and modern and you’d feel right at home there- if you ever got to stay in the UK for more than a few days.
As promised your office was right next door to Toto’s, something you weren’t sure was a blessing or a curse. The tall Austrian was still an enigma to you, sometimes he was warm and friendly, almost flirtatious, then the next minute a mask would go on and his demeanour completely shifted to cold and distant. You weren’t sure which one was the real Toto but suspected he was somewhere halfway between the two acts.
The rest of the team had been brilliant in welcoming you into the role, with endless patience for your questions. You were pleased with the way that your department functioned and so far had no major red flags to report to the board. You were a little apprehensive about the impending UBS dinner but reassured that Toto would be there and that he had a close relationship with one of the stakeholders. They were the sponsor who offered the most in return for the least so an important company to keep on board for next season.
Your hotel in Monte Carlo was the best one yet, with a small balcony with a beautiful view of the famous harbour. It was a truly pinch me I’m dreaming situation.
As you unpacked your phone buzzed, it was Lara.
Hello Y/N. Hope you had a safe flight. TW will pick you up from your hotel at 19:45 for the 20:00 dinner. Thanks, Lara.
Surprised he would be driving himself you hurried a reply.
It went well thank you, Lara, sounds perfect. Thank you for organising.
Glancing at the clock and seeing it was just past six o’clock, you realised you had plenty of time to unpack, find an outfit and answer some emails.
——
You’d packed a few different outfit options having done a deep-dive stalk of the restaurant on Instagram, trying to decide what would best fit the vibe and the clientele. It was an upscale hotel restaurant with a panoramic view of the harbour and seemed to attract all sorts, from glamorous tourists to lowkey locals. After much deliberating, and a few texts to your trusted girlfriends’ group chat, you settled on a simple navy silk slip dress with a navy pinstripe men’s blazer artfully placed across your shoulders.
You paid special attention to your hair and make-up, keen to make a good impression and represent the team in the best way possible. It was a red lipstick situation and the bold pop of colour gave you the boost of confidence you needed.
At 19:40 you decided to head down to the lobby, not sure where Toto would be collecting you from. To your surprise he was already waiting in the lobby, looking incredibly dapper in a navy linen jacket, white shirt and crisp beige chinos. He was a striking man and you could see why he garnered so much attention in the paddock, standing head and shoulders above most of the other Team Principals. You saw him do a double take as he clocked you crossing the lobby.
"Good Evening Y/N. You look beautiful," he said leaning down to kiss you on each cheek in the traditional European custom.
Slightly blushing you replied, "Thank you Toto, and so do you."
He chuckled, "Thank you. I try. I’ve parked the car with the valet, let’s go and grab it."
You followed him out of the lobby, more than aware that he was attracting curious stares and trying to ignore them.
"I hope you weren’t waiting too long, Lara told me 19:45 so I thought I was early," you said apologetically.
"No, not at all, I was early. We’re obviously on the same timing." he smiled as the valet went to fetch his car, "So, have you been to Monte Carlo before?"
"Glad to hear it. Yes, I’ve been quite a few times but I’ve never stayed anywhere with such a good view."
"Oh really?" he raised an eyebrow, "Well another one of our sponsors is to thank for that."
"Smart move that one," your eyes widened as the valet pulled up in one of the most breathtaking cars you had ever seen. An original silver Mercedes 300SL. "Wow."
"You like it?" he asked, taking the keys from the very nervous-looking valet and thanking him with a stack of Euro bills.
"Maybe." you laughed, "How do I get in?"
That elicited a laugh from Toto who ran around to open the gullwing door for you.
"Thank you, that saved me some embarrassment!" you climbed in, being careful not to flash anyone in your dress.
"You’re welcome," he shot you a charming grin, "All in?"
"Yes thank you,” you smiled back at him.
He closed the door carefully and made his way around to the driving seat, climbing in next to you. He was a tall man and his legs only just fit, making it a tight squeeze and a cosy fit next to you.
It was a short drive to the restaurant which you spent going over strategy, what you’d like to gain from next year’s sponsorship deal and what Toto thought they would be after from your end. He was clearly a conscientious leader who paid attention to the smallest of details. You mentally noted that he was probably not the kind of boss to suffer fools gladly and hoped you would never be on the end of his scrutinising.
——
The dinner went smoothly. You met with your two UBS counterparts and they were amiable to your offers for next year, even willing to send a little extra sponsorship money your way. Toto played hardball and you played the friendly new face, flirting up a storm with the two older gentlemen. This raised Toto’s eyebrows a few times, worrying you that you had gone too far at some points. You then reigned it in and successfully closed the deal, contracts would be drawn up in the morning and would be finalised over the coming weeks. All in all a productive dinner and you were beaming from ear to ear by nine-thirty.
You bid the UBS team goodnight and made your way out of the restaurant with Toto. Again, you could feel eyes on him wherever he went, making a note to ask him about this once you had got to know him better. As you went to collect your jackets from the cloakroom he gently placed a hand on your shoulder and asked, “So, do you want to sit somewhere and debrief? There is a place down the street that I know.”
Surprised by his eagerness to work into the night you turned your head to face him, replying, “Sure, I’m happy to work on this tonight. Shall I get our jackets first?”
“Excellent.” he smiled, dropping his hand from your shoulder, “Yes good idea, it can get cold here at night and it’s a short walk.”
You collected your jackets from the cloakroom and made your way out into the street outside. It had gotten dark whilst you were inside, the street bathed in inky moonlight. Not sure where you needed to go you let Toto take the lead.
"It’s not far but it’s quieter than the restaurant. It’s just down there," he said, gesturing towards the end of the road.
"Good idea," you said, slightly struggling to keep up with his pace, the height difference glaringly obvious.
Noticing you were lagging behind, Toto turned around, "I’m so sorry, are you alright with your shoes?"
You laughed, surprised he’d noticed your strappy heels "No no it’s fine, you’re just so much taller than me, one of your steps is equal to about three of mine."
He blushed, "Oh, sorry, I always forget. Not very gentlemanly of me." He slowed down his pace, allowing you to catch up.
"No worries, maybe I’ll need to get a scooter if we do any long paddock walks." you smiled at him.
"Not in those shoes though I hope," he smirked, "You look great tonight by the way. The UBS guys were very taken with you."
Now it was your turn to blush. "Thank you, I was worried I went a little too far in flattering them so reigned it in. But glad it worked."
"Well it’s not a tactic I tend to use, but I think those guys have trouble saying no to a beautiful woman. Maybe you’re our new secret weapon with the sponsors." Toto slowed down as you approached a non-descript set of double doors, partially obscured by a sweeping bougainvillaea trellis.
Glad it was dark enough to hide your reddening face, you weren’t sure what to say, "You’re telling me you’ve never charmed people like that? I’m sure it would go down a storm."
"What can I say? Those men just aren’t receptive to my advances. Believe me, I have tried." Toto smirked as he opened the door for you, allowing you to step into a rustic space with a long bar, plush red velvet seating and low-hanging wooden chandeliers.
A sharply dressed man appeared to greet you both, "Good evening Mr Wolff and to you Madame. How are you this evening?"
"Very well thank you, Sebastian. And yourself? Could we please take one of the booths at the back?" Toto replied, clearly a regular.
"Glad to hear it, I am very well thank you. Please follow me," he said, leading his way to a second, more intimate room behind the bar.
Sebastian discreetly took your jackets and promised to return with a menu. As you settled into the red velvet banquette you could tell why Toto liked it here. There was one small group of businessmen in the corner, quietly chatting but apart from that you were undisturbed.
"So, do you come here often?" you said, immediately laughing at your choice of phrase.
Chuckling from across the table, Toto replied, "Not often but enough for them to know me. It’s a good spot as it’s quieter than most of the other places in town but has impeccable service."
"A good find. So what was it that you’d like to discuss?" you crossed your arms, getting down to business.
"I wanted to know how you thought that went, the good, the bad and the ugly. I know you’ve dealt with sponsors before and I was very pleased with the outcome." he leant back into the banquette.
Taking a measured pause, you echoed his body language, leaning back into the plush red cushions, "I feel largely positive, grateful you were there as coming into this fresh there are always going to be details I am not yet aware of." you took a moment to consider, "To be honest, I feel I could have negotiated harder but didn’t want to step on your toes."
Toto raised his eyebrows and leant across, looking at you in curiosity, "How much harder? Do you think I was too easy?"
A little unnerved, you tried to be diplomatic, "No, not at all, it was a great deal but I do think as a newcomer I could have gone in harder. It’s harder to backtrack further down the line with these types of annual deals."
"Interesting, perhaps let’s test this theory next time. You could be correct, they were very receptive to you. We will have similar talks coming with IWC. I could take a step back?" he said, turning his head as Sebastian approached your booth with a small menu.
"Monsieur, Madame, sorry to interrupt but would you like to review our wine list? Or perhaps you would prefer to order something from the bar?" he said, handing you the small burgundy leather card.
"Could I take a Negroni please?" said Toto, before you had even had a chance to turn the menu over.
Slightly flustered, you decided to play it safe and order the same, "Could I have one please too?"
"Two negronis, coming right away," Sebastian whisked the menu away and made his way back through the bar.
"A negroni man, huh?" you said, raising an eyebrow, "Sbagliato, with prosecco in it?"
Clearly not the most familiar with the viral Negroni Tiktok, Toto looked confused, "I've heard that before somewhere. Is it a speciality in England?"
You laughed, "It's a stupid internet thing, on Tiktok."
"Oh. I think the social media team might have shown me." he said, his brow furrowed, trying to remember, "Maybe we should order one next?"
"I have to say, I am curious to see if it lives up to the hype," you smiled, before adding, "So you're not on Tiktok?"
"No, I'm far too old for it. My children send them to me but I would not even know where to start. Dancing is not my strong point." he said, ruffling a hand through his hair.
"I'm too old for Tiktok but I don't let it stop me," you winked, "You know you are very popular on it. As soon as I was offered the first job interview I familiarised myself with our brand content on every platform. There are a hell of a lot of thirst traps of you and our drivers."
"Thirst traps?" he looked at you quizically.
"I'm not even sure where to begin on this one," you tailed off as Sebastian appeared with two cut crystal tumblers.
As he settled them down on the table, Toto interjected, "Sebastian, could we also get two Negroni Sbagliato with prosecco?"
You couldn't help but laugh, hearing the phrase in Toto's deep Austrian voice was something else entirely.
Sebastian looked taken aback, likely also not au-fait with the Tiktok, "Sure, coming right up."
As he disappeared once again, you turned to face Toto, who now had a sparkle in his eye. "Don't tell the social media team, they'll make me say it for them."
You grinned, "Funnily enough that was my very first thought. You'd go viral in no time."
"So what is a thirst trap?" Toto asked, "And cheers to a successful evening by the way. Here's to many more," He raised his glass to yours and clinked them, keeping eye contact as was the custom in France.
"I'm not escaping this one, am I?" you groaned, "A thirst trap is when people post sexy photos or videos on the internet for attention."
"What photos and videos are they posting of me?" Toto asked, his eyes wide in horror.
"Various, I saw everything from you smashing tables to your post Abu Dhabi partying antics."
Looking a little embarrassed, Toto made a face, "I can't believe it. And you think this is intended to be sexy?"
Not sure how to respond delicately, you skirted around, "They call you Daddy Toto. So 100%."
At that, Toto choked on his drink, "They call me what?"
"Daddy Toto."
"Daddy Toto?"
Again, his accent made the phrase sound even more ridiculous, "Indeed. I told you you had an army of female fans. Netflix asked you to film gym scenes. Who did you think wanted them?"
"Weight-lifting enthusiasts?" he said weakly.
"I think for that to be the case you'd need to be lifting more than ten kilos," you teased, still not letting him forget your gym session.
"Very funny." he took a sip of his drink, "Well, you learn something new every day."
"I do think we could exploit it a little," you echoed his body language, sipping your drink. It was stronger than you expected so you were mindful to take it slow. "Give the people what they want."
"And what's that?" he said, his voice low.
"Thirst traps of Daddy Toto," you said seriously making eye contact before you both broke out into laughter.
"For a price, maybe." he smiled, sipping more of his drink.
----
You spent the next hour nursing Negronis and discussing the ins and outs of the following day's media circuit. Toto was due to attend a Team Principal press conference with his arch-rival, Christian Horner, and was not looking forward to it.
"At least there is Mattia to take some of the heat," you said, reassuringly, "He has a lot to answer for following Ferrari's issues."
"This is true," Toto sat back, suddenly eyeing up the lineup of empty glasses in front of him, "Shall I order one more round?"
Aware that you were now three strong drinks deep, you knew that one more would tip you into drunk territory, "I'm not sure, I'm feeling quite merry, I'm not sure how useful I will be talking shop if I have one more."
"We're done talking about work, we can have one more for the road?"
"Well, if you insist," you smiled, easily swayed.
Toto gestured towards Sebastian and the older man made his way once again to the bar.
"So, Y/N, now we're off duty, I want to know more about you. I'm curious, we have spent a lot of time together but I don't know much about you."
Surprised by this sudden line of questioning, you retorted, "Well, I don't know so much about you."
"What would you like to know?" he said, the glint back in his eyes, "I'm an open book."
"What do you like doing outside of motorsports? You have children right?"
"Two questions in one, that's not fair." he sat back, "So yes I do have two children but they're old now and don't want to spend so much time with me. My son is in college and my daughter is due to go in September."
"I'm sure that's not the case," you said sympathetically, well aware that most teenagers don't want to hang out with their parents.
"I do try to see them as much as possible, they're great people. I text them every day."
"There you go, texting them every day, that's an achievement in itself with teenagers."
"They don't always reply," he said with a smile.
"But they send you Tiktoks?"
"That is true, and then I don't always reply."
"So what do you do when you're not with the kids? What keeps you busy?"
"Honestly, not so much. I cook, I try to stay fit, go outdoors, and spend time in nature. I'm pretty boring."
"That's not boring, it sounds delightful." you decided to take the opportunity to dig deeper, "So there's no Mrs Wolff?"
"Not anymore." he said wistfully, "That ship sailed about a decade ago. The children were younger and I worked all the time and was never home. It was never going to end well."
"You can't blame yourself, it's always six of one and half a dozen of the other in these situations." you tailed off, your words unconvincing as you caught yourself thinking about your recent breakup.
"Perhaps." he said, before musing "So, is there a Mr Y/N?"
"There was, but he decided to dive into thirst traps when he already had a fiancé. I had to end things when I found out."
"I'm sorry to hear that, for what it's worth, he sounds like an idiot," Toto said, looking at you curiously. "So did this trigger the job change?"
"Am I that much of a cliché?" you laughed, flicking your hair over your shoulder, "Yes, I packed my bags, left our house and put it straight on the market. If you know anybody who needs a country cottage for a reasonable price, send them my way."
"You lived in a cottage?" Toto looked surprised, "I would not have guessed that."
"Why would I not live in a cottage?"
"I don't know, you look more glamorous than someone who lives in a cottage."
"You're crazy. I grew up in the countryside, I'm a country girl at heart."
"I'll take your word for it," said Toto, as Sebastian approached with your final round of drinks.
"Monsieur, Madame, just to inform you that we will be closing shortly. If you wish to order more drinks please note that service will be ending in twenty minutes," he said as he set your drinks down and collected the empty glasses that were scattered across the table.
"Thank you, Sebastian, can I get the cheque, please? I think we're done for the night." Toto suggested.
"No problem Mr Wolff, I will be back in two minutes."
As Sebastian once again disappeared Toto continued his line of questioning. "So, you grew up in the countryside, but you're not British?"
"What makes you think that?"
"How do you answer every question with a question? You'd make a great politician you know. I heard you speaking Spanish last weekend, you sound native."
"Kind of, my Grandfather is Argentine, so I can speak a little. I've heard you speak several languages, is Spanish one of them?"
"Sadly not, maybe you can teach me?" he looked at you expectantly, his rich, brown eyes heavy.
"Only if you teach me German."
"Deal." he reached out and grabbed your hand, shaking it as if it were a real business deal.
"Look at this, talking shop all over again." you laughed.
"I can't help myself." he took a big gulp of his drink, "I knew you weren't entirely British, you're too bubbly."
"Bubbly? I guess I'll take that as a compliment."
"It is, British people can be dry. You bring energy to the team, much more so than your predecessor."
"Well cheers to that," you raised the last glass, making more eye contact with the handsome Austrian.
"Cheers indeed." Toto finished his drink in one and sat up straight.
Following suit you gulped the rest of your drink down, shivering a little as it had gotten cold in the cool stone room.
"Are you cold?" Toto asked, gesturing at Sebastian to fetch your jackets as well as the bill.
Grateful that he was so attentive, you confessed, "Yes, a little."
"I'm sorry I did not mean to keep you out so late, we have another early start tomorrow." Toto looked guilty.
"No, don't be silly, it was nice to unwind and discuss the dinner. Thank you for taking the time, I know you have a crazy schedule."
Sebastian returned with your jackets and the bill, you shimmied your jacket back over your shoulders.
Having settled the bill before you even had a chance to dig out your card, Toto stood up, proposing, "Right, shall we make a move? Thank you very much, Sebastian, please take care."
Making your way out into the night, slightly stumbling thanks to your copious amount of Negronis, you turned to face Toto, "Thank you for getting that, we should have split it."
"Don't be silly, I invited you, it's normal." Toto was equally as unsteady on his feet.
"Well thank you, that was a lovely evening."
"Shit." Toto stopped dead in his tracks.
"You thought the evening was shit?" you teased.
"No, but I did leave my car with the valet. I can't drive like this. Let me walk you back to your hotel, you won't get a taxi at this hour and I want to make sure you get home safe. The only downside to Monaco is the lack of taxis."
"Oh." your face dropped, knowing the walk would be back up a steep hill, "Honestly it's fine, I used to wander around South London at night, I think I can handle Monaco."
"Please, you never know," he said, offering the crook of his arm in a gentlemanly fashion.
"Fine, you did say you like being outdoors," you said, taking his arm.
----
You made your way up the first hill, around the sweeping vista you had passed earlier on in the day.
"So are you going to go and collect your car tomorrow morning?" you asked.
"No, they'll bring it to me," Toto replied, effusively.
"Oh, that's handy, is that normal here? Or do you do this often?"
Toto laughed, "I've done it once or twice, always after a night with UBS."
"Good to know for next year. I'll have to detox my liver in preparation."
"Y/N," Toto suddenly stopped in his tracks, "Would you like to come to mine for a nightcap? It's on the way."
Surprised by his bold invitation, you considered it for a moment. It had been a pleasant evening and Toto was incredibly handsome and charming. If it had been a date you would not have hesitated but the fact of the matter was that it was business. You couldn't be the new starter who fell for the boss, it would be another cliché.
"As lovely as that offer sounds, I really do need to sleep ahead of tomorrow. It's a busy day and I want to be at my best." you smiled, your eyes soft, "But maybe another time?"
"Understood." he said, a steely demeanour suddenly taking over, "Sorry if I misstepped."
"Not at all," you touched his arm lightly, "I would have loved to, but honestly I just need to be on form for tomorrow."
"Well, I can't fault that. Maybe this was a test," he said, a cheeky glint in his eye.
"A test for what?"
"To know if you're a responsible employee."
"Did I pass?"
"With flying colours."
Not sure if he was joking or serious, you replied, "Thank goodness for that. Next time we don't have an early start let's hit the town properly."
"Deal," he said, looking satisfied that he hadn't offended you entirely with his invitation.
You made your way up the second hill in comfortable silence, with Toto occasionally pointing out various driver's balconies. It seemed as if everybody had a place in Monaco.
"Maybe it's time to trade the cottage in," you joked, looking up at a particularly flashy apartment building.
"Now, that's where I could imagine you living!" Toto exclaimed.
"For real?" you said, surprised.
"100%. You'd fit in well here."
"I guess I'll take that as a compliment then," you said smiling.
It wasn't long before you made it back up to your hotel, the walk having been less intense than you'd expected.
"Well, thank you, Toto, for a lovely evening and for walking me back." you stepped awkwardly towards the entrance.
"It was my pleasure. Thank you for your hard work," Toto bent down to kiss you goodnight, once again showing his European roots.
"I could say the same to you. Goodnight Toto and see you tomorrow."
"Goodnight Y/N," Toto said as he turned to make his way back down the hill before you called out to him.
"Toto?"
"Yes?" he turned back around.
"Will you please text me when you're home safe?"
His eyes crinkled in amusement, "Of course. Although I used to walk through Vienna at night."
"Touché.," you said as he turned back around and made his way down the hill.
----
You had returned to your room, jumped in the shower and settled into bed when your phone suddenly pinged and lit up.
Home - TW
Bemused by the formal initial sign-off, you replied.
Thank you for letting me know - Y/N
You pressed send, the whoosh noise signalling it was on its way before your hand hovered on the Tiktok icon. You had thought about sending Toto a thirst trap video but then thought the better of it.
Scrolling, you found the infamous Abu Dhabi video where Toto had been pictured partying in a wet white t-shirt. Eyeing up the share button, the Negroni flowing through your veins tipped you over the edge and towards the send button. Whoosh, off it went. That would give you something to discuss in tomorrow’s brand comms meeting.

Folklorist (Pathfinder Second Edition Archetype)
Tumblr media
(art by Victor Rossi on Artstation)
There is something integral to the human experience in storytelling. The art of creating stories to entertain, teach, and bond over is something we’ve been doing ever since we developed sapience, and we’ll continue telling stories until we finally come to an end.
That love of storytelling is why we play RPGs, and games in general. After all, a ttRPG is by nature a collaborative storytelling experience.
It only makes sense then that there would be an archetype tied to that sacred role. And while this archetype shares bones with the bard class conceptually, both can exist on their own and together as well.
While such storytellers could easily show up anywhere, this archetype is heavily associated with the Mwangi Expanse, where the art of oral storytelling is a respected profession. Indeed, such is their gift for storytelling that they can use tales to help guide the actions of others, firmly believing that just as the real world shapes stories, so too do stories shape reality.
As part of the dedication for this archetype, these tale-weavers can spin a tale that is either about an ally or is relevant to their predicament, surrounding them with minor inspiring illusions that bolster their ability to fight a single enemy.
Before libraries or schools, stories were also the primary way to educate others, though oral tradition runs the risk of misinformation as tales or forgotten or unique circumstances that inspired a tale render it’s lesson inapplicable. As such, these storytellers learn a lot about various stories which can help them recall knowledge on almost any topic, but runs the risk of dubious information.
Just as a storyteller conveys a tale, skilled ones can convey magic, letting allied spellcasters channel their magic through them, which can be useful when cover or range is involved.
Many storytellers agree that three is an auspicious number, and the hero of a story often achieves their goal on the third attempt. As such, when inspiring an ally, that ally becomes more resistant and avoidant of their foe’s attacks on the second, and especially on the third attempt to resist the same effect.
More powerful storytellers can spin stories about whole groups of heroes, blessing many allies at once with a story rather than just one.
Interested in an archetype that adds a bit of bard flavor and knowledge to your character? This might be what you’re looking for. Naturally this works best with a character that supports allies either as their main gimmick or as a side thing to do with an action each turn. Heck, you could even double down and apply the archetype to the bard class for even more poetic and oratory support. However, any character with decent storytelling chops (especially high charisma, though that’s more for flavor than mechanical benefits) could benefit from the archetype. All in all, this is a good archetype with some tasty flavor.
The cool thing about oral traditions and folk tales is that stuff is constantly evolving, being remixed, and changing along with the people that tell those stories. As such, going into this archetype is carte blanch to absolutely go ham on making up all kinds of stories not just for use with the mechanics, but just general roleplaying opportunities as your storyteller cites or retells a story as part of character interaction.
Though not well-known outside of his own kind, the kitsune hermit Kogafune is well-known as a lorekeeper and teacher, one with secret knowledge forgotten by most. Reaching him for information is difficult, forcing travel through trackless mountain wilderness. But reaching the old sorcerer can only benefit those with the dedication to find him.
As symbols of hope and goodwill, coatls, particularly the quetz coatls, often become secret patrons of storytellers to help them create stories of hope and bravery among mortals, the better to keep such feelings alight in the heart of mortals.
The thing about stories is their message can change a lot depending on who is telling the story. To the Gula human tribes, the story of Ekesor is about a man who heroically tricked an orc chieftain into ceding territory and giving away his daughter in marriage. Meanwhile, orcs tell of how the human showed cowardice in underhanded tricks and betraying hospitality.

In the serene kingdom of the electro – Inazuma, an ambiance that can be compared to the solemnity and holy cathedral of Mondstadt can be observed. The royal court was decorated in both Inazuman and Liyuean tapestries. Shrine maidens can be seen aligned on the right-hand side of the throne carrying Suzus, adjacent to them are the Royal Adepti of Liyue carrying blessing sigils. On the throne, sat the reigning monarchs of each kingdom – Raiden Shogun and Rex Lapis. Both are dressed in a Hitoe and a Dragon’s Robe respectively; capturing the culture of their domain. The aisle was adorned in sakura bloom and glaze lily flower arrangements, a long red carpet embellished with intricate patterns hinting at both geo and electro, and several large chandeliers hovering over.
At the foot of the elevated thrones, stood crown prince Kabukimono. Dressed in a dark violet Sokutai, matching the color of his mother’s Hitoe. He stood in anticipation – stealing glances at a large painting on the wall behind the thrones displaying the late King who passed away during the split of Teyvat. How he misses him dearly. He admires the Gagaku Orchestra on the balconies above them, playing music fit for an intermission. The hushed murmurs and chatter within the royal court from both the royal guests and the selected common folk were silenced when a flash of light and a loud creaking sound was heard from the massive double door. In comes a figure in a white Cheongsam gown with gold embellishments and a long flowing golden tule cape draped over their shoulders. It was the crown princess.
The orchestra began playing a mixed rendition of traditional Inazuman and Liyuean wedding music. As the crown princess walked down the aisle, she couldn’t hold back her tears. She was alone, and so was the crown prince. He allowed a tear to slip past his eyes out of happiness.
“She is ethereal,” he thought to himself.
As the princess arrived at the foot of the throne, she bowed to respect both her father and her soon-to-be mother-in-law. Kabukimono does the same and outstretches a hand for the princess to grab ahold of. Both Raiden Shogun and Rex Lapis stood in front of the both of them and took out their staffs. It shared the same motif as their respective spears. The Shogun accolades the crown princess, whilst Rex Lapis accolades the crown prince. Both granting them the permission and blessing to wed. The crown princess then turns to Kabukimono and bows. He fights back his tears as he watches her stand upright. He then, to everyone’s surprise, bows immediately after. A prince, the crown prince even, bowing to the princess during their wedding is unheard of. When they assume the roles of king and queen, it is expected of the queen to be below and not equal to the king. It showed the people that Kabukimono, the future king of Inazuma and Liyue, sees himself as equal to the crown princess.
 “Ningjing…” He whispers.
The crown princess, Ningjing, looks at him in shock. A red hue covers her cheeks as tears threaten to fall. He saw her as his bride, as his equal, as her. Her grip on his hand tightens. He placed a hand on her cheek and caresses it gently as if she was as delicate as a flower and fragile as glass. He leans in and kisses her lips. They were both embraced by warmth as they kissed. The court erupts in cheers and claps as sakura bloom petals fall. Like any couple, they were elated. Liyue held a 3-day long festival celebrating the wedding of Kabukimono and Ningjing. The Royal Adepti escorted both royals throughout the festival. As they walked around, they overheard hushed whispers,
“Do you think Princess Ningjing will bear a prince or princess?”
“Oh, how excited I am to hear them announce the princess’ pregnancy!”
“I hope both the prince and princess will be able to bear a child…”
Ningjing blushes and looks at the ground to avoid Kabukimono’s gaze. They just got married how could the people want them to have a child already? This behavior does not go unnoticed by the prince, however.
“How inconsiderate, they already want you to bear a child just 2 days after our wedding. Should I behead them dear?” He says glancing at the princess’ pale face as she jolts up and faces him.
“Absolutely not! Let them be vocal with their thoughts and sentiments. It doesn’t mean we would HAVE to comply with their wishes. We can always wait when we are comfortable.” Ningjing mumbles the last part as she adverts her eyes from his shyly.
“What if I am already comfortable?” He smirks.
“Kabuki!” She scans the vicinity to see if anyone heard the preposterous and scandalous words that were uttered by the crown prince. He laughs as he watches her panic and pets her head. Reassuring her that no one heard him and that he is willing to wait. As they continue down the path leading to a stage occupied by performing opera singers, a loud crash was heard. Everyone turned their head toward the source of the sound. They were then greeted by a massive fire that engulfed three of the buildings. The ground vibrated as yelling was heard from afar. In the field on the horizon, was an entire army charging straight toward the Kingdom of Liyue. The Royal Adepti quickly escorted the royals to the palace. The royals were given a basic armor breastplate and a sword to at least protect them.
“Your Highness, the army was identified. They are Snezhnayan.” An Adepti, named Ping, informs.
All blood from the princess’ face drains. Kabukimono places a hand on her shoulder and asks her to stay in the palace while he helps the Liyuean army fight. Ningjing shakes her head begging him to stay with her. He reassures her that the Inazuman army will arrive shortly for aid. As he walks away accompanied by some of the Royal Adepti, she tugs on his wrist.
“Let me fight with you.” She looks at his eyes sternly, determination visible.
“I can’t risk losing you. Respectfully, we are both well aware that I have the most experience on the battlefield. You on the other hand could barely swing your sword. I don’t know what I would do without you!”
“What makes you think I don’t share the same sentiments as you?! What if you don’t come back? What would I do without you?” Tears roll down Ningjing’s cheek as she begs. "I want to protect our people with you"
She drops her sword and grasps his free hand tightly with both her hands. She brings it close to her chest as she mutters ‘please’. Kabukimono glances at the Royal Adepti – all looking away not knowing what to do to help. Kabukimono sighs and pulls his hand back. He bends down and picks up her sword and hands it to her.
“You have to come back in one piece.” He mumbles.
“No, WE have to come back in one piece” Her eyes are still glossy from her tears but proceeds to wipe them off with her sleeve and nods her head.
The deafening sound of sword clanking and slashing, the stench of blood and sweat, the smoke that renders sight useless – Ningjing swings her sword, beheading the opposing soldier. Her grip on the handle of her sword tightens as she examines the area. There was no sight of Kabukimono. Her heart rate quickens as she ran opposite to the ongoing fight, quickly reuniting with an Inazuman soldier.
“Have you seen His Highness, Kabukimono?” She panics.
“I apologize, Your Highness. I have not-” The soldier quickly pulls the princess behind him and stabs a Snezhnayan soldier in the abdomen. The body falls limp and passes away on its knees.
Ningjing runs back to the battlefield in search of Kabukimono. ‘How careless of me’ she thought. There were hardly any soldiers from both sides left yet the smoke was still evident. She coughs as she walks over the countless dead bodies piling up on the ground. Her mind was filled to the brim with negative thoughts. What if something happened to him? Or worse, what if he died? She swallows back her tears and shakes her head to rid herself of those thoughts. She continues to tread over the bodies as quietly as possible while also scanning each face hoping she would not see him as one of them. She arrives at a much clearer area. Her hold on her sword strengthens should there be an enemy that spots her. In the distance, she spots a familiar dark purple-haired figure.
“Kabuki!” She exclaims as she runs towards him.
His head swiftly turns around and locks eyes with Ningjing. Unfortunately, what was not taken into account was the possibility of an archer present. A Royal Adeptus, Alatus, was quick to notice a silhouette of a person aiming a bow and arrow at the crown princess. He dashes towards the person but before he could reach them, the arrow was fired.
It was as if time was slowed in Kabukimono’s eyes. The arrow flying towards the princess, the fear in the princess’ eyes as she turns around, when the arrow penetrates her straight to the chest, and the sound of the prince’s sword dropping to the ground as he darts towards the princess. He catches her in his arms before she could hit the ground, and his heart quickens out of fear. It didn’t help when blood pooled under the princess. She looked up at him and caresses his face with her bloodied hand.
“Ah…haha…I’m sorry Kabuki. Did I scare you?” She lets out a strained laugh as tears brim her eyes. “It really hurts…”
Kabukimono didn’t know what to say, all he could do was stare at her as he lets out quiet sobs. He held her hand that was on his face, feeling it lose its heat. She lets out a small smile as she wipes his tears. With the little strength she had left, she pulled his face towards her and kisses his lips. As she pulls away slowly,
“I love you, Kabuki…” She exhales, implying that was her last breath.
They took his princess away, his Ningjing. He watches as all life fades from her eyes as her body grows limp. He held her in his arms as he chokes on his sobs. Alatus managed to eliminate the enemy but at what cost? He watches the distraught prince cry at the loss of the princess from afar. The battle was over and the Royal Adepti that were in the vicinity could only bow their heads as their crown prince grieves. The prince whispers to the body in his arms,
“I will love you again in another life and I vow to protect you better than I did in this life. Your death was not in vain, Ningjing. I love you too…”

Character ask: Jacob Marley (A Christmas Carol)
Tagged by anonymous
Favorite thing about them: Just how unforgettable he is as a character, despite how brief his role is. He's probably second only to Shakespeare's King Hamlet as the most famous ghost of a dead man in English literature, and rightfully so. He's frightening, yet pitiable too, and every line he speaks is pure poetry. He has some touches of humor about him (mainly from Dickens's wry narrator voice), but without reducing the seriousness of his suffering or his message. And despite having died an unrepentant sinner, he now repents enough, and cares enough about his old friend Scrooge, that he not only visits Scrooge himself, but arranges for other, more powerful ghosts to visit him too in hope of redeeming him, and he succeeds.
Least favorite thing about them: Well obviously, he wasn't a good man when he was alive. That's the point: he's an example of what Scrooge's fate will be if he doesn't change.
Three things I have in common with them:
*I can be greedy and self-absorbed, though I try not to be.
*I want to help others, as he does now that he knows the error of his old ways.
*I can be melodramatic.
Three things I don't have in common with them:
*I've never been a cold, ruthless businessperson.
*I'm female.
*I'm still alive.
Favorite line:
“It is required of every man that the spirit within him should walk abroad among his fellowmen, and travel far and wide; and if that spirit goes not forth in life, it is condemned to do so after death. It is doomed to wander through the world—oh, woe is me!—and witness what it cannot share, but might have shared on earth, and turned to happiness!”
“Oh! captive, bound, and double-ironed, not to know, that ages of incessant labour by immortal creatures, for this earth must pass into eternity before the good of which it is susceptible is all developed. Not to know that any Christian spirit working kindly in its little sphere, whatever it may be, will find its mortal life too short for its vast means of usefulness. Not to know that no space of regret can make amends for one life’s opportunity misused! Yet such was I! Oh! such was I!”
“Business! Mankind was my business. The common welfare was my business; charity, mercy, forbearance, and benevolence, were, all, my business. The dealings of my trade were but a drop of water in the comprehensive ocean of my business!”
“At this time of the rolling year, I suffer most. Why did I walk through crowds of fellow-beings with my eyes turned down, and never raise them to that blessed Star which led the Wise Men to a poor abode! Were there no poor homes to which its light would have conducted me!”
brOTP: Scrooge, his only friend.
OTP: None.
nOTP: Any living person.
Random headcanon: In the end, thanks to his act of arranging for the three Christmas ghosts to visit Scrooge and lead him to redemption, he's freed from his chain and ascends to heaven. I know I'm not alone in wanting to believe this, so I will. I just don't like the idea of eternal punishment for a soul who has clearly learned his lesson and repents; especially not after he saves Scrooge's soul, which means he deserves part of the credit for saving Tiny Tim's life and all the other good deeds Scrooge will do.
Unpopular opinion: He doesn't reside in hell. Dickens makes it clear that his punishment (and apparently the punishment for all cruel, uncharitable people) is to travel endlessly through the world, witnessing the suffering of others whom he failed to help in life. In Dickens's world, there evidently is no hell, in the conventional sense: hell is on earth, in the suffering of those in need. This unconventional theology suits the book's message of social commentary perfectly, and I get tired of seeing adaptations imply that he comes back from a traditional fire-and-brimstone hell, which is so much less interesting and less relevant to the message.
Song I associate with them:
"I Wear a Chain" from The Stingiest Man in Town.

"Marley and Marley" from The Muppet Christmas Carol.

Bookbinding Updates:
@erisenyo
I have it decided, but I'm still making some tweaks.
Wisteria for These Things Written
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Wisteria Symbolism
Despite its potentially aggressive nature, the wisteria flower symbolizes something quite different in cultures that have incorporated it into their rituals or philosophies.
Wisteria in Buddhism
Jodo Shinshu Buddhism, also called “Shin Buddhism” in the West, uses a double wisteria in its official crest to form a circle ‌representing humility and an open and welcoming mind and heart.‌ The humility is inherent in the way the wisteria flowers appear to hang upside down, as if their heads were hanging down. The wisteria blossoms symbolize new beginnings and the fleeting nature of all things.
Perhaps more in keeping with its growing behavior is that ‌it also symbolizes strength and hardiness,‌ as it blooms earlier than many other spring flowers, sometimes even when snow is still present.
Japanese Kabuki Drama
A famous Japanese kabuki dance ‌Fuji Musume‌, or the “Wisteria Maiden,” illustrates the story of a young maiden who embodies the spirit of the wisteria plant: romantic and shy.
Victorian England
The Victorians are famous for flower symbolism and adopted the wisteria ‌to represent passionate love and longing,‌ represented by the clinging nature of the vine. Wisteria is not a plant that grows easily in the British climate, but the elite imported it for its rareness and beauty and came to associate the wisteria flowers with the phrase “I cling to you.”
[source]
I chose wisteria for this one because they represent new beginnings. When we meet Zuko he’s hurt, he’s angry, he’s still trying to accept things about himself that he’s been told are wrong. He’s strong and ready to take on anything thrown at him from a boom-a-rang to the head to finding the avatar that’s been missing for 100 years (an impossible quest). Then we have Sokka who is learning how the world actually works outside the Southern Water Tribe. He takes on the role as leader making sure the other two stay safe (as much as he can) because he can handle the pressure. He greets each thing thrown at him with a (mostly) open mind and heart.
Japanese Maple For These Things Unsaid
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Symbolism and Spiritual Meaning of Japanese Maple Trees
There are many symbols of Japanese red maple trees, such as abundant blessings, peace, beauty, patience, survival, the arrival of autumn, and so on. It is common to see Japanese people plant maple trees in their houses to bring luck and add good value to their houses by believing in red maple trees’ spiritual meaning.
Abundant Blessing
Japanese maple trees produce “samara” fruit in large amounts during September and October. This is because samara is a winged seed that scatters via a northwesterly wind at that time of year.
Samara seeds are also edible during the springtime. However, also consult a physician before ingesting anything in the wild.
Peace
The Japanese maple tree is a significant tree in nature, or “kito,” which means calm, rest, or peace. The symbol of peace keeps people calm and avoids stress and accidents to create a safe and happy life.
Beauty
The Japanese maple tree is known for its elegance and tastefulness, which many people find appealing. Even its shrubs have beautiful colors. Like most trees in the autumn, momiji leaves turn red, brown, purple, and gold.
Because of their beauty, maple leaves are a common motif in traditional Japanese clothes. Kimonos, in particular, sport this lovely look, and it’s a perfect design for both autumn and winter.
Patience
Because maple trees take so long to grow to their most mature height, they are a common symbol of patience. For instance, maple trees must take about twenty to thirty years to reach their required length or height.
To humans, momiji further represents that we must take time to reach our goals. Rushing to our goals will only make things worse. This is why we appreciate the timeless beauty of the Japanese maple tree.
Endurance
Red maple trees in Japan are famous for their association of partial shade areas so that they can still grow mature and beautiful even though there is just a little exposure to sunlight. These trees reflect to humans the ability to survive without giving up no matter how difficult the challenge they have encountered or how bad the environment existed.
[source]
I chose the Japanese Maple not only because of it’s beauty but also because in book two both Sokka and Zuko start to learn patience and endurance. They both struggle with these in different ways but this is where they really start to grow. Book two also brings us brief moments of peace where the two of them can actually be together even if we already know that they’re going to separate again.
Sakura for These Things Known
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The sakura bloom marks the end of chilly winters and the beginning of the spring season. However, this is not the only sign of the sakura flowers. They bring in a lot more, including a rich history and cultural significance in Japan.
A long time ago, sakura was used to predict the year’s planting and harvest seasons by indicating the right time to plant crops for farmers. Because of that, the beginning of the sakura season is seen as a sign of renewal in Japan.
Sakura also symbolizes human mortality for many Japanese people. The short blooming period of sakura is often compared to the fleeting nature of life. The flowers are beautiful and brilliant during their strongest bloom, but then it withers and becomes fragile when their time comes, similar to the human life cycle. It reminds people that life is both short and precious.
Japan also starts its fiscal and school year in April, during the cherry blossom season. Sakura, in this case, is a symbol of good luck and hope in Japanese culture.
[source]
Sakura is the most obvious. Not only was Sakura the first tree I picked and I couldn’t get over the way it looked, but also it represents their love for one another. This is the book where they can finally be together. This is the book where they try and make everything as right as they can. They’re still learning and fucking up but they love each other and you can really see it here.

Could you please elaborate re: girlaugur Van? Thanks!
GLAD YOU ASKED!
Short version: since (I think) before s2 began, I was obsessively predicting that Van’s eventual role in the group would involve augury, similar to the traditional Roman sense of the word. Hence girl augur (girlaugur).
Long version:
An augur, in the classical Roman sense, is someone who interprets the will of the gods by observing natural phenomena. I’m not a classicist or a historian at all, so that’s about as far as my knowledge goes (I’m more interested in the concept of the thing than the details of the thing, if that makes sense), but I do know that Yellowjackets already engages with classical themes and imagery in a very deliberate way — doomcoming and the bacchanal are just the most obvious allusions. What’s one more?
Speaking specifically to Van: I’m working off her relationship to Lottie and her visions. Given her established role as girlacolyte — Lottie’s most trusted in matters of faith — I was envisioning a kind of relationship where Lottie receives and Van interprets. (Which I think is represented in Van’s storytelling, when she works up to it: Lottie introduces the mythology of the wilderness, but Van builds the structure of meaning. She makes it make sense. Do you see what I’m getting at?)
All through s1 and in the beginning of s2 we see Lottie anxious and confused about her visions and her leadership role, and we see Van take on the role of reassuring her, doubling down on her assertions even when Lottie herself won’t do it (taking initiative during bear grace comes to mind). (There’s another essay in here about the psychology of groupthink and Van as a mindguard, but I won’t get into it on this post.)
Anyway, the most significant “evidence” from canon for girlaugur Van comes from two episodes: 1x07 and 2x03. 1x07 not only gives us the exchange of the deer bone necklace, which is in itself ritualistically significant, but also the blood river, which is the real standout to me. Lottie dreams a river of blood, but does not know or try to guess what it means — Van does. When she sees it, she immediately dubs it a bad omen. That’s augury, baby! That’s interpreting the will of the wilderness through its natural signs! I see it as one of the more significant turning points for her when it comes to her faith, because what comes next confirms that interpretation.
Again I’m working off a layperson’s knowledge of ancient Roman religious practices here, so pardon any inaccuracies, but it’s my understanding the augury traditionally consisted of observing the patterns of birds in particular. 2x03 gives us very striking bird imagery with all those dead starlings, and with the way it lingers on Van placing them at Lottie’s feet. Now if on top of this, Van had been the one to say “let’s gather the wilderness’s blessings,” I would consider girlaugur Van forever canon and no one would able to say SHIT to me about it, but as it is, Lottie rises to the occasion — I’ll still argue that she was empowered by Van, and Van was the first to heed her.
Ok, this is getting long, let me wrap it up: I’ll say that on a broad level, Van as a character is very tied up in interpretation, in meaning-making, in the why and the here’s how. She believes in fate. She believes in purpose. She wants a way to fit everything together and to fit herself into everything so bad that she’ll carve it out of anything. She’ll carve it out of nothing. That’s the augury motif. It’s about the conflation of “what does this mean” with “how can I make it mean something?” It’s about the actionable approach to questions that eat you whole.
[claps hands together] Well! I hope that illuminated things for you, anon. Followup questions are welcome if you have any.

THE DESCRIPTION OF THE PRESENTATION OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY
"For Mary always leads us to Jesus. It was to this mission that her life was dedicated as she was presented in the Temple. From her parents, Mary learned to trust in God’s promise of salvation and to live in faithful expectation that those promises would be fulfilled. And so she mediated on God’s Word before she conceived him in her womb. Sinless from the moment of conception, Mary absorbed the Word as no other and lived in completely harmony with the saving will of the Father." -excerpt from his 2017 homily by The Most Rev. William E. Lori, 16th and current Archbishop of Baltimore
The account of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the Temple is principally based on the Protoevangelium of James, which has been dated by historians prior to the year 200 AD. The story relates that in thanksgiving for the birth of their daughter Mary, Joachim and Anne decide to consecrate her to God. Mary's presentation in the temple draws parallels to that of the prophet Samuel in the Old Testament, whose mother Hannah, like Anne, was also thought to be barren, and who offered her child as a gift to God at Shiloh.
It is said that according to tradition, the Blessed Virgin Mary, at the age of three, was brought to the Holy Temple in Jerusalem to be consecrated to the Lord, and to fulfill a vow. She remained in the temple thereafter until her twelfth year, to be educated in preparation for her role as the Mother of God, serving God and helping the priests in their sacrifices, until the time came for her engagement to Joseph, at which point he was assigned to be her guardian. According to Coptic tradition, her father Joachim died when Mary was six years old and her mother when Mary was eight.
The liturgical feast of the Presentation of Mary started in the year 543, to commemorate the dedication of the Basilica of Saint Mary the New (now Church of Saint Anne) in Jerusalem, and was extended to the whole Church in 1585 when it was reintroduced by Pope Sixtus V. Pope Clement VIII made this feast a greater double in 1597.
In the 1974 encyclical Marialis Cultus, Pope Paul VI wrote that 'despite its apocryphal content, it presents lofty and exemplary values and carries on the venerable traditions having their origins in the Eastern churches'.

🚨⚠️ Beware: Understanding the Dark Side of Bitcoin's Advantages ⚠️🚨
Bitcoin, the revolutionary cryptocurrency, has transformed the financial landscape and offers a myriad of benefits for legitimate users. However, we cannot turn a blind eye to the fact that some of these advantages also attract individuals with nefarious intentions, such as money launderers. It is essential to shed light on these issues and raise awareness about the risks associated with the misuse of this technology.
💼💰 Pseudonymity: The Mask of Anonymity Bitcoin's pseudonymous nature allows users to conduct transactions using alphanumeric addresses rather than personal information. While this provides privacy for legitimate users, it can also be exploited by money launderers seeking to hide their tracks from authorities.
🌐🔄 Decentralization: A Double-Edged Sword The decentralized nature of Bitcoin means there is no central authority governing its operations. While this empowers users and disrupts traditional financial systems, it also poses challenges for authorities trying to trace illicit activities.
✈️🌍 Borderless Transactions: Crossing Boundaries Effortlessly Bitcoin's borderless nature facilitates fast and low-cost international transactions. Unfortunately, this benefit also appeals to money launderers who want to move funds undetected across borders.
⏱️🔒 Fast and Irreversible Transactions: A Blessing and a Curse Bitcoin's irreversible transactions provide certainty for honest users. However, this feature can be exploited by money launderers seeking to execute quick and permanent transfers without the risk of chargebacks.
🚫❌ Lack of Regulation: A Haven for Illicit Activities In regions with inadequate cryptocurrency regulations, money launderers find opportunities to exploit the lack of oversight, evading detection while conducting their unlawful operations.
💡🔍 Mixing Services: Obscuring the Trail Bitcoin mixing or tumbling services allow users to blend their coins with others, making it arduous for investigators to trace the origin of illicit funds.
🚨⚖️ Take Heed: Consequences Await Engaging in money laundering is not only unethical but illegal. Authorities worldwide are cracking down on illicit cryptocurrency activities, implementing robust anti-money laundering (AML) and know-your-customer (KYC) measures to safeguard against abuse.
🌟🚀 Use Bitcoin Responsibly Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies have tremendous potential for positive change, but we must utilize them responsibly and within the boundaries of the law. Let's stay informed, advocate for transparency, and work together to promote the legitimate use of this groundbreaking technology.
Remember, we all play a vital role in ensuring the bright future of cryptocurrencies. Let's shine a light on the dark corners and strive for a safer and more transparent financial world. 💪🌐 #BitcoinResponsibility #CryptocurrencyAwareness #MoneyLaunderingRisks #StayInformed #LegitimateUse #AMLCompliance #KYCMeasures

The Science Behind Literary Symbolism
Symbolism, a technique in which a physical object stands in for an idea, is a common feature in literature. And of all symbols in literature, water is one of the most common. Christianity in particular places a special emphasis on water, imbuing it with a wide variety of meanings. But water's connotations in Christian literature didn't come out of nowhere -- they correspond to water's scientific properties!
Tumblr media
This post will explore three ways in which water functions as a symbol in Christian literature and ritual and explain the science underlying these ideas.
Water as Positive Force
Firstly, water in Christianity often signifies qualities such as faith, rebirth, or connection to God. This is especially clear in religious traditions. Some Christian churches allow worshipers to bless themselves with Holy Water, water that has been blessed by a priest, before entering church. In addition, one of Christianity’s most important rituals is Baptism. Baptism christens new members of the church, whether infants or converts, as Christians by pouring water over their heads. Finally, hymns such as “Peace is Flowing Like a River” suggest that water represents feelings such as harmony and connection to God. Taken as a whole, water represents positivity and life in Christianity.
Tumblr media
Interestingly, we also get this sense in stories with settings that explicitly lack water. For instance, deserts are frequently places where characters go through trials or temptations – Moses and his followers wandered a desert before they entered the Promised Land and Jesus did the same when he fasted for 40 days.
So why is water portrayed in this way? Obviously, water supports life, but what scientific phenomena were Christian writers picking up on as they shaped their literary interpretations?
Water enables organisms to live in many ways. Because of water molecules’ shape, they can surround molecules of other substances, efficiently breaking them apart. Because of its capacity to do this, water has earned the designation of “universal solvent.” Water’s role as a solvent facilitates cells’ transportation of oxygen or nutrients because wherever water goes, it takes these molecules with it.
Water also supports the shapes of cells by filling them, maintaining their shape and structure and helping cells maintain a high pressure.
Tumblr media
Finally, water supports life in that, by suspending DNA molecules, it enables them to take their characteristic double helix shape. Cells need this shape to follow the instructions encoded by DNA, so by allowing this shape to emerge, water supports human life.
A Complex Portrayal
Despite water’s positive connotation in many Christian stories, some instances present water in a more complex light. In the story of Noah’s ark, water floods the earth, drowning all life except for Noah, his family, and the animals they rescue. However, in the end, the story leads us to believe that the floods create a better, more prosperous earth. The world will be repopulated by good people, unlike the sinful civilizations that were destroyed, and God promises to never inflict such a wide-ranging punishment on humans again.
This representation of water as a dangerous yet ultimately healing element has a parallel in antiquity: the flooding of the Nile river.
Tumblr media
The Nile’s yearly floods were caused by heavy rains and melting snow in the Ethiopian Mountains, upstream of the river. This water would fill the Blue Nile, a tributary of the main river, and send water flooding downstream. Once it reached the desert of Egypt, the excess water would overflow onto the riverbanks, depositing silt that was rich in nutrients.
This event was hugely important to ancient Egyptians. If the floods were too powerful, they could inundate farmland or residences. If they were too small, crops that relied on the fertile silt might not grow as well. So, although the Nile’s floods could be a scary or anxious event, ultimately, if they succeeded, they brought great prosperity, just like the flooding in Noah’s ark.
Blood Red Water
One final function of water as a literary element can be seen in instances of water contamination in the Bible. Water contamination frequently heralds large-scale crises in Biblical stories. For instance, one of the Ten Plagues of Egypt involves the Nile turning to blood, and in the Book of Revelations, all water on earth becomes undrinkable, filled with poison or blood. What could account for these persistent occurrences of water contamination, especially water that turns blood red?
Different scientists have posed ideas as to how the idea of blood-red, undrinkable water could have taken shape in ancient writers’ minds. One, Siro Trevisanato, argues that a volcanic eruption could have created these conditions in real life. When a volcano erupts, it’s possible for winds to carry ash and deposit it into a water source. Volcanic ash can contain the mineral cinnabar, which has the power to turn water blood red. The mineral’s toxicity makes water undrinkable.
Tumblr media
Another theory indicates that climate change could create a similar effect to the Bible’s accounts of water contamination. Warm conditions and drier rivers provide excellent conditions for a species of bacteria called the Burgundy Blood algae to thrive. Algal blooms could turn water red, suck the oxygen out of a waterway, and kill the organisms which consume the water.
These theories are to say that an actual instance of water contamination could have inspired the consistent image of blood red water in Christian literature.
Tumblr media
So there we have it! Water’s function in Christian literature and ritual is backed up by science. This goes to show that a literary symbol’s connotations aren’t just arbitrary – they can often have a basis in real-world fact. Because of this, science can help illuminate literature, demonstrating how ideas in a literary tradition form and remain over time.

Dave’s Double Dose
The young homeless couple cuddled together for warmth in the cool morning air. She was so thankful for Joe. He had been incredible, so concerned for her. She didn’t know if she would have made it without him. Through no fault of their own, they were now sheltering in a barn. The economy combined with government regulations had left them in a bad situation, a situation in which Joe had done all he could, and that was no little thing. He was quite the handyman with wood. He had managed to stop the drafts in their newly obtained shelter.
And, just in time!
She knew she would probably bear more children, but she didn’t know how she could love another as much as she did the small bundle lying nearby, being both supported and sheltered by the animals’ feeding trough. She was first and foremost a mom. She knew her child was special. She knew all mothers felt like this, but, no, this child was unique. God had called her blessed, and God had blessed her with a child, though she’d never known a man.
She laughed to herself. She was a rather practical young woman. She felt honored, and she was humbled by being chosen, BUT, to her, it wasn’t all about that. She was a mother, and she naturally focused on what was before her – not on all the philosophical stuff, not on all the ethereal positions, and she was certainly not going to be arguing any great theological points of view anytime soon. She had a child to raise. And according to the whimper she just heard, he must need that diaper changed, and she was the one to do it!
*******
“She’s so beautiful,” the somewhat older man thought. He was a bundle of emotional energy. Okay, so, yes, he had had the vision. He knew, without question, what was up. That didn’t change the recriminations directed at him back home. He had attempted to be both wise and kind. Obviously, at first, he had thought he couldn’t accept “damaged goods,” but then came the vision. She wasn’t damaged, she was blessed, and blessed beyond measure.
Overwhelming humility with a flood of understanding of the responsibilities that lay before him clouded his mind, but he too was practical. He had a job to do. He had a role to play, but he could only do what he could do. God had chosen Mary when she was his betrothed, ergo, God had chosen him. Why? He didn’t have the foggiest! Meanwhile, he had used his knowledge to stop the cold drafts before that little bundle had arrived. At least he had done that right! He wondered if he would get the next thing right.
History said the time was right, and the future was a complete mystery, but he was a practical man. He didn’t worry too much about either. He could only take life on life’s terms. He was quite adept at taking things as they came. Perhaps that’s why God had chosen him.
But, Mary?
She was amazing. There was definitely no question why she had been chosen. It was hard to escape the feeling he was extra baggage, but despite his feelings, he knew better. God made no mistakes; therefore, God had chosen Joe for His own reasons. Joe just hoped he’d figure out the whys and how-to’s before he made a critical mistake. The burden rested heavily on his mind!
She, a young teenage mom. He, a little older, but in similar straits. Both, the people God chose to parent the young Jesus. So often we place Mary and Joseph on some kind of pedestal as if knowing their positions meant that somehow, they intrinsically knew what to do. Scared and alone, except for Joseph, a man she was only beginning to know, Mary, a teenager, had a natural birth in a stable. Let that sink in. Joseph, a man conformed to Jewish tradition and law, was stumbling blindly forward because he trusted a visitation that just didn’t equate to the norm because there was nothing normal about it!
Those two belong on a pedestal of sorts because of what they accomplished, but at that point where we meet them at the beginning of Luke, she was just a scared pregnant teen, and he was an older man with the weight of the world on his shoulders. Perhaps it’s romantic to view Mary as this “above-the-fray", holier than the rest of us, pious, young woman who would unerringly stride into the future as the mother of the Christ!! Perhaps we view Joseph as this wise servant-man who without question served the needs of the “mother-of-God.”
Yeah, probably not.
They both had individual callings, and history tells us they met the challenges laid at their feet by our Father.
But they were still just a barely wed young couple who shivered in the cold, listening to the even rhythm of the Christ child’s breathing in wonder and amazement that the God of the universe would choose them. To idolize them removes responsibility for you. To place them on the proverbial pedestal at that point gives you an excuse.
Reality check. You don’t have an excuse!
Make no mistake about it! The call God has placed on your life is just as significant as the one on Mary’s. True, you’re not raising Jesus, but you weren’t called to.
Answer the call. You may find yourself in desperation, shivering in the cold, dark early morning hours, not knowing what the future holds, and trying to sort out your whole place in this seemingly jumbled up mess. You’d be in good company. Do what Joseph and Mary did – take in the moment, do what needs to be done, and step into the next one. God calls faith-driven, purpose-filled, practical-minded people.
Perhaps you’re one of them.
Thank God He also calls beat-up, broken down, old drug addicts, on whom the world had given up. Mary and Joseph were probably the best of us. I’ve been the worst, and our Father called each.
Being in between, you have no excuses, fulfill your calling.
He is awaiting your call!!
In Christ Alone,
The Bread
(A Product of the Loving Baker)

Transgenerational Healing, Karma, Transformation, Ancestors
Which of your ancestral lines do you feel most connected with? You are accountable only for this place and for all that has come forth from you . In this exercise, try to create order and peace for yourself, to see your children in their very own distinctive places, and to bless them.
However, the power of the ancestral call cleared a path for me to step into recovering the traditional faith of my native nation. I am also a psychotherapist who has been skilled in Western psychological theories to assist folks in therapeutic previous trauma and early life wounds. My work is located between conventional Korean shamanism and neoshamanism as nicely as indigenous Korean cosmology and Western psychological perspectives. A few examples that I know of have lingered in my thoughts Healing With Your Well & Unwell Ancestors… One is the story of a very kindred conventional healer, Saint Teresita Urrea of Sonora, Mexico. This highly effective curandera of Tehueco Indian & European lineage, was identified to talk vocally in help of the Indian revolutionaries of her own neighborhood who actively fought in opposition to colonization in the instances of revolution in Mexico in the late 1800's.
Most of all, we thanks for continuously protecting us from evil. Like the Lord Jesus in today’s gospel, we're also satisfied that you are always there for us, to guard and defend us from each danger and harm. When we're united with you, we stand, however after we are divided and separated from you, we certainly fall. Keep us united in your love and friendship with one another. Thank you, God, for the reminder at Mass right now, that you simply areOURFather, the Father of all.
A particular example of the role of traditional therapeutic extends to its use in Mozambique. Traditional healers had been discovered to be invaluable in post civil warfare social reconstruction and group rebuilding in Mozambique, particularly in the rural areas . They additionally serve as counselors, social staff and skilled psychotherapists as nicely as custodians of indigenous data techniques (Mills, Cooper & Kanfer, 2005). George Kelly, an American personality psychologist and philosopher, developed the philosophy that he called ‘Constructive Alternativism’, which challenges the notion of a single objective reality (Boeree, n.d.). Although actuality exists, it can be constructed, interpreted and understood in different ways. For instance, the standard African healer has a special construction and etiology about schizophrenia to that of a Western healer.
Thus the spirit energy of the animals looms giant, especially these of seals, whales, and eagles. He continued, “The garments hanging on the pegs within the seal’s double porch had been all sealskins. He thought he was going to search out seals with out their skins, however no, they have been people.

The Dark Prince: Chapter 10:
Chapter Summary: The wedding...
This was supposed to be the last chapter, but I ran out of room for the reception, so y’all get another 😂
Dress reference at the end
Announcements had gone out the very next day, reaching every corner of the country.  Her Most Royal Highness, Princess Y/N Lantsov, second daughter to King Pytor and Queen Tatiana to wed General Aleksander Kirigan, General of the Second Army.  Invitations were sent out to foregin diplomats and leaders, as well as the entirety of the Ravkan court.  Yours was the first royal wedding since your mother wed your father, it was to be the event of the century.
“One would think that my wedding would be the event of the century,” Vasily said, displeased by his role as one of Aleksander’s groomsmen, alongside Nikolai.  “Well, Vasya, it’s not my fault that I’m getting married before you,” you argued.  “Find a woman to court, then we’ll talk about your wedding.”  Your mother was beside herself in planning the event; flowers, dinner menus, mesic selections, it was as if she’d been planning this for your entire life.
The ceremony would follow tradition, a few deviations being made for Aleksander.  He would wear a kefta, not military dress, he would use Grisha vows rather than Ravkan.  In the weeks leading up to the wedding, gifts and well wishes poured in from all over the world: ash boughs accompanied by a Fjerdan wedding blessing, Eternal roses from the Shu Han, bushels of jurda from Novyi Zem tied in blue, gold, and black.  You received countless jewels and gowns, Aleksander received fine clothes and ornaments of good will.  He also received money for the Second Army, which he was more than grateful for.
Finally, the day arrived, the sky blue and cloudless, the sun shining on the Grand Palace.  The Palace was decorated in the Lantsov colors entwined with black, flowers clinging to every surface.  Everyone rose early in preparation for the ceremony, the cooks rising well before dawn to prepare the feast.  The ceremony wasn’t until noon, but Genya woke you at 8 o’clock, ushering you into a bath where she scrubbed your skin and hair, shaped and polished your nails, before drying you off.
The Tailor and her team styled your hair and applied your makeup, ensuring you looked as beautiful and as regal as possible.  You stared at your reflection in awe as you were laced into your wedding gown: shimmering golden silk and tulle with intricate embroidery covering the full, ball gown skirts.  The bodice was fitted, the neckline dipping below your collarbone, the puffed sleeves hanging over your shoulders.  Your veil, golden lace, featured the double-eagle embroidered in shimmering thread, and your ceremonial crown; gold twisted into eagle’s wings, diamonds and aquamarine studded into the medal, was pinned into your hair, which was twisted into an elaborate updo.
“Saints, my little girl,” your mother said when she saw you.  “You look absolutely beautiful, malyshka.”  “Thank you, Mama,” you replied, letting her fuss over your hair, your skirts, your jewels.  Your maid of honor, Alya, your best friend since childhood, arrived shortly after, tears springing to her eyes.  “That General of yours is a lucky man,” she said, gathering your trailing veil into her arms as you began the walk to the Royal Chapel.
Servants and Grisha alike gathered along the path to catch a glimpse of the bride, shouting their well wishes and congratulations.  The antechamber to the chapel was packed with members of the procession.  Vasily and Nikolai were nearest to the door, and the flocked to you when they saw you enter.  “You look lovely, Y/N,” Vasily said, pulling you into an embrace.  “Thank you, Vasya.  You both clean up well too.”
Nikolai smiled and hugged you, careful not to mess up your hair.  “I’m happy for you,” your little brother said.  “Truly, I am.”  “Thank you, Kolya.  That means the world to me.”  A chapel attendant announced it was time, and the procession fell in line.  Your mother would enter first, followed by Ivan, Aleksander’s best man, then Vasily and Nikolai, Aleksander, Alya, and finally, you and your father.  Genya handed you your bouquet, yellow and black roses with sprigs of white, pressed a kiss to your cheek, and hurried to her seat.
The pianist began playing as the procession began, and your father took your arm.  “My little girl,” he said, squeezing your arm.  “I am so proud of the woman you have become.”  “Papa,” you said.  “You’re going to make me cry.”  Your father shook his head and kissed your cheek.  “Save your tears for your groom, milaya.” Alya arranged yoru veil behind you before it was her turn to walk, and she bobbed a quick curtsey to you.  “See you up there,” she said, taking her own bouquet and walking down the aisle.
Aleksander stood at the altar, watching the procession.  His heart was pounding and he was suddenly grateful he didn’t eat much breakfast.  What if she doesn't show? a voice in his head spoke, but he pushed it aside.  You would, you would be here, of course you would.  Your maid of honor entered the chapel, and Aleksander held his breath with anticipation.  The music changed and the guests rose to their feet, turning to face the rear of the chapel.
Then, you stepped forward on your father’s arm.  Aleksander let out a shaky breath, feeling tears spring to his eyes.  You were perfect, there were no other words to describe it.  Your gown, gold following tradition, shimmered as you walked, your crown perched atop your head, your steps measured and graceful.  He blinked hard to fight the tears, fighting to keep his composure.
All the nerves you’d felt had evaporated when you saw Aleksander standing at the altar, his hands folded before him.  You could tell he was nervous, and you saw him gasp when you entered.  The walk up the aisle felt far too long, but soon, you were standing before him, close enough to speak, but saying nothing.  “Who gives this woman away?” the Apparat intoned, and your father cleared his throat.
“I, Pytor Lantsov III, give my daughter to this man.”  The Apparat nodded, and your father lifted your arm from his, placing your hand on Aleksander’s arm.  “I love you, Y/N,” he said, kissing your cheek once more.  Aleksander shook your father’s hand, an unspoken conversation occurring between the two men.  Your father took his seat and Aleksander led you closer to the altar, a soft smile on his face.
“You look beautiful, my love,” he whispered, his hand clasped in yours.  “Simply radiant.”  “Thank you, Sasha,” you replied, and Apparat raised his hands.  “We gather here today to join Princess Y/N Lantsov and General Aleksander Kirigan in marriage.  The Saints give us this gift so that we may show our love for one another, binding one’s soul to their partner’s forevermore.  If there are any objections to this union, please speak now.”
If there were, no one spoke, and the Apparat nodded.  “Then let us pray.  O blessed Saints, we call upon you to bless this union, to bring the bride and groom happiness and prosperity in their life together, to allow them to worship you in their days and return to you when you see fit.”  Most members of the congregation prayed as well, but the Fjerdans abstained, as did the Kerch and the Shu.  But you heard whispered prayers in three different languages, and you knew they were offering their own prayers to their own gods.
“Please exchange your vows.”  Aleksander spoke first, facing you and taking both of your hands in his.  “We are soldiers,” he said, the barest hint of a tremble in his voice.  “I will march with you in times of war. I will rest with you in times of peace. I will forever be the weapon in your hand, the fighter at your side, the friend who awaits your return.  I have seen your face in the making at the heart of the world, my darling Y/N, and there is no one more beloved, brave and unbreakable.”
The Apparat made a sign of prayer in the air above your joined hands and gestured for you to speak.  “Here, witnessed by our Saints and our friends,I speak words of both love and duty. It is not a chore but an honor to swear faith to you, Aleksander, to promise love to you, to offer my hand and my heart to you in this life and the next.”  The Apparat blessed the air above your hands again, and Ivan and Alya came to your sides, holding thorn wood branches above your heads.
“The Saints have decreed it, these two are wed.  You may kiss your bride.”  Aleksander drew you to him, his arms tight around your waist.  “My wife,” he said, only loud enough for you to hear.  “I love you.”  And he kissed you, deeply and passionately, finally able to show the world how much he loved you.  You wrapped your arms around his neck, clinging to your husband as he dipped you slightly. The congregation was cheering, but you hardly heard them, too focused on Aleksander; his lips on yours, his arms around you.
A few moments later, he righted you, breaking the kiss.  Reluctantly, you left his arms and faced the chapel.  “There is one more order of business to attend to before the feast,” you said, and Alya came once more to your side, a crown on a velvet pillow in her hands.  With a smile, Aleksander stood before you, bowing lowly before assuming the position.  “He was on his knees before you, and in your wedding gown, your crown on your head, the sun filtering through the stained glass windows behind you, you looked simply divine, like a Saint reincarnate, one who he would spend the rest of eternity worshiping.
You raised a hand, holding it over his head as if blessing him.  “I hereby crown thee Prince Aleksander Kirigan.”  You took the crown, his crown, and placed it on his head.  It was silver, the metal wrought into eagle’s wings as yours was, but his was studded with black diamonds and obsidian, owing to his lineage and status.  “Long live the prince!” you called, and the congregation repeated.  “Rise, Aleksander, Prince of Ravka.”
Your husband rose to his feet, and you pressed a kiss to his forehead as he did.  Ivan handed him your wedding band, and Alya handed you his, and you slid the silver band onto his finger.  “I promise to love you, support you, and cherish you for the rest of my days,” you whispered.  The exchange of the rings was usually a very intimate moment, the words spoken typically intimate and personal.  “I promise to aid you however I can, and I promise to always stand by your side.”
Aleksander pressed a kiss to your forehead, and he noticed the engraving on the wedding band: the sun in eclipse behind the double-eagle, two lines becoming one.  Your husband slid an identical band onto your finger.  “I promise to be your loyal subject for the rest of my life.  I promise to love you as much as I am able, and to make you feel as loved, cherished, and beautiful as you are.  I promise to be at your beck and call at every moment, and I promise that you have my entire heart.”
You went up on your tiptoes and kissed him, and the two of you faced the congregation once more.  “Presenting Her Most Royal Highness, Princess Y/N Lantsov, and His Most Royal Highness, Prince Aleksander Kirigan!”  The congregation stood, bowing and curtseying as you passed on your way out of the chapel.  When you stepped outside, you were met with a cheering crowd, people crying your names, along with “Long live the Prince and Princess!”  The church bells were rinsing, and you knew that all over the country, people would be celebrating.
“Well, darling wife,” Aleksander said, his arm linked with yours, your wedding procession following behind you.  “I believe we have a feast to attend, do we not?”  You smiled, your heart feeling light and airy.  “I believe we do, husband.”  Aleksander led you back to the Grand Palace, his chest puffed out with pride.  The most beautiful woman in all of Ravka was now his wife, he was a prince, for the first time in a long time, Aleksander was truly happy.  No more hiding, no more pretending to fall in love with you.  Now, he could love you as he’d always dreamed of; openly and devotedly.

Can I ask the 2p allies and the 2p axis, separately to each of them, reacting to a love confession from a close country with whom they recently developed feelings but did not yet confess because they feared she would reject them as she was too good a girl for them? ❤️
“I love you.” That was all it took to change his world.
France – François stood there. He couldn’t have heard that right, did they really just confess to him?
He is confused. François is a firm believer that you often get someone at a similar level to you in relationships. An example of this is wanting to be with someone active, for the relationship to work you have to either already by at that level or work toward that level of fitness. So, to have perfection not only acknowledge him, but like him back causes a second or two of him blue screening.
After his blue screening, François will tell her how he feels. His words will be kept simple but will feel poetic. He will also not allow her to leave his side until a time and day is set for their first date.
America – Allen smiled, it wasn’t the overconfident smirk or the wide predator’s grin he usually showed. It was a genuine smile big and full of hope.
For Allen, in this moment the world felt bright and colorful. The sounds that were once so loud became quiet and the only beings to exist were the two of them. He was happy and this level of purity was not something he had felt in a long time.
Since this relationship is with someone that Allen feels like would reject him, he would feel his ego grow. Don’t get me wrong, he would be amazing and happy, but it would boost his ego. It was not only a sign your love was meant to be, but that he was also irresistible.
Allen would take her on a date that very hour. It would be something informal like dinner at a diner. They would talk for a while and enjoy each other’s presence.
Canada – Matt’s hand came to cover his face. Looking closely, one could see the blush covering his cheeks as he laughed.
Laughing may seem like a weird reaction, but it is one way Matt shows feelings of relief and joy. He had never expected to end up with this cutie and for her to confess first, that isn’t very manly of him. In his mind, he would have imagined various different scenarios where he finally let this fear go and manned up. Many of them involved him winning her heart in a fight or competition. Though, he was not upset with this.
Matt would take a note out of François’ book and plan a date with her, but he would treat her to something before the date. If they had a meeting before the date, he would bring a small gift for her to the meeting and would work extra hard to be chivalrous.
England – Oliver looked stumped for a moment, before asking if it was heartfelt. Her reply of a confirmation sent Oliver launching into her arms.
Since Oliver works in the realm of emotional manipulation, he would do his best to certain that emotions like love were actually felt by the woman he yearned for. He would accept the words after double checking and be willing to show he love for her openly. After a day or two past connections would resurface, and he would be paranoid about it. Though, if she stays true in both word and deed, Oliver would do all he could to make up for his odd behavior.
Being the nation known for chivalry, he will fall right into the boyfriend role. Opening doors, carrying things for you, and coming up with amazing dates would be his forte.
Russia – Viktor’s body relaxed when he registered the words that came from her mouth. A small smile graced his features as he gently pulled her close.
This man of tradition would feel both relief and agitation. His relief in that she felt the same, while agitation that he failed to notice her pining. Viktor would tell himself that he would have to make up for his lack of attention. This would mean taking extra care to the needs of his snowflake. After all a good man does not leave his woman wanting.
Viktor would surprise her with a date a couple days after the confession. He during the time in between he would talk with her nearest kin and ensure that they know she is in good hands and that he wants the same thing has them, her happiness.
China – Jin could feel his eyes water as he smiled. He was not this blessed often and he would not take this chance for guaranteed.
It had been so long since Jin could say that a person made him happy. The last few decades, joy had come in fleeting bursts from worldly pleasures and had left him searching. Until she walked in, but the difference between them felt like canyons that Jin could never cross. She was too good, pure, and precious. While Jin walked along the deranged and dirt of the earth.
When he realized the her words were true, Jin’s tears flowed. Despite their differences, he always hoped they would be like the love stories that are so common. Lovers from different worlds that end up creating a beauty all their own.
Jin would be determined to make this relationship work. Right from the get-go he would be ready to change habits in his life to ensure that he could stay with his light.
Italy – Luciano had felt the woman of his dreams was above his station. An impossible dream meant to be indulged in the quiet hours of the morning, and yet here it was. His fantasy becoming a reality with the bright rays of the morning light. Luciano was quick to capture her lips within his own, almost as a way for him to confirm that this was not a dream.
Luciano may be smoother than butter, but even he can catch feelings. Wanting for someone that he believes that he could never have is torture. He never meant for his heart to be caught and now that it was, he had been fantasizing about them. Their words caught him off guard, it made him wonder if he was still home, lost in the throws of the land of dreams.
The kiss would not last long, but the break wouldn’t either. With a confirmation of reality, Luciano will turn up the charm and continue the kisses.
Romano – Fabrizio didn’t register that he yelled out a yes until he heard her melodious giggles. He blushed and tried to recover from his outburst, but he failed as he joined her in a chorus of laughter.
This drama king’s scream would cause the birds to panic and the rabbits to run. As much as he loves her and has gotten to know her, he would be shocked by her confession. Her purity would make him doubt that he had any chance with her. So, before the confession, he was content to just be with her.
After confession, Fabrizio would make her his number one model and do all he can to make her even more beautiful. He would love her natural beauty, obviously, but to be given the opportunity to make his angel more lustrous than the moon would be something he could never turn down.
Germany – Without a second thought Luther kissed her. He had been wanting this for so long and why not celebrate.
Luther would have been flirting around to get his mind off his sweetheart. His heart would ache because of the dark thoughts telling him, he had no chance. It would have lead to him feeling empty and tried. He was shocked when she confessed, because he thought he didn’t deserve her. He flirted with others, but he guessed she saw through him.
In the same moment he was shocked, he reacted. He put all his longing and happiness into that kiss. Luther wanted her to know that he was hers and that she would get everything he had to offer.
Luther would not leave her that night. He would spend all the time he had with her, talking about how happy he was they were together. How sorry and stupid he was for flirting with others in front of her. They would share laughs and end the night cuddling.
Prussia – Wilhelm nodded. He wasn’t sure why, but he could not form the words to say, “me too.” Though judging by her smile, Wilhelm guessed that she understood too.
Though quiet, Wilhelm can be further shocked into silence. The phrase “I love you” was one he rarely even heard between him and his family. To hear it from this angel, it caused his vocal cords to seize. He wanted nothing more than to offer prayers of gratitude to his God. Despite his fallen state, and her purity, Wilhelm had been blessed with her love.
Wilhelm would not be able to talk for a bit after. He would be so happy and allow his lover to do all the talking. Once he could control his vocal cords, Wilhelm would ask if it would be okay to take her out for a date. With the start of their courtship assured, Wilhelm would then bask in her presence.
Japan – Kurai may not have smiled, but there was something in his eyes and his posture that showed joy.
Kurai knew that he had blood staining his hands, and he did not want to tarnish his blossom. It would bring him shame to even think about taking her light and turning it dark. Yet, Kurai could not stop his mind from wondering what her lips felt like and what she was like in her most tender moments. Their distance hurt, but he could only hope of one day gaining the confidence to over come it.
With her confession Kurai felt a weight leave his shoulders. Maybe he could find joy in this life. Maybe it came from falling in love with her. Though he doesn’t show much emotion, Kurai shows it in actions. He will hold her hand so tenderly in that moment and look upon her with eyes full of love.
