I've got a question for and or about Buck. So he also goes by and is referred to as "The Invincible Bulkhead" but I was wondering if he's actually invincible, like superpower wise, or if it's just a name because he's a strong guy?
Tumblr media
[Image ID: A black-and-white digital ink drawing of Puzz's OC Buck, a middle-aged white man with a barrel-chested build, big nose, balding hairstyle and bushy mustache, wearing a turtleneck sweater. He is standing with his hands on his hips and glaring, saying, "Wouldn't you like to know. End ID.]
Buck's not especially eager to talk through the strengths and weaknesses of His Whole Deal, but I have no such hangups! The answer's sure to get a little rambly (and also, content warning, is Talking About Ways You Could Theoretically Kill This Guy), so I'll put it under the cut.
So the long and short is basically "Buck DOES have powers, but he's not actually invincible". Buck's superpower is more along the lines of superhuman durability - he can take a lot of hits that would severely injure or kill the average person, and he bounces back from most injuries far faster. Say, for example, you slam a two-by-four into his face or something. Average person's going to have a broken nose, maybe even be concussed; Buck's gonna have a brief nosebleed and then be back at it.
The big shortcomings to this come in terms of what this power DOESN'T do. For one, it doesn't come with any kind of super strength or natural fighting abilities - he's only about as strong as you'd expect an average middle-aged man to be, and he's actually pretty dogshit at fighting hand-to-hand, both of which are why he generally relies on piloting a mech while Davey (who, despite having a civilian upbringing and no superpowers, IS a very capable hand-to-hand combatant) does most of the physical fighting.
The other big thing is that, as stated, Buck's durable rather than invincible. What this basically means is, if it's something a human body can't theoretically, physically recover from on its own, it's possible for him to die because of it. So like, if he's suffocated or drowned or otherwise can't breathe, that would kill him, because his super-durability isn't, like, generating bonus air for him. Similarly, something like decapitation would kill him, because the healing wouldn't kick in faster than the actual Death Effects. All this comes together to mean Buck's more likely to die of, like, a really bad asthma attack than he is getting the shit beaten out of him by a superhero.

Hey, I had something but I sent it to the wrong thing, sorry about that! To say it again do you have any head-cannons about what the members of Deep Cut did before they made the band?
Their families were very close, and all three were childhood friends. They'd go to each others' houses very frequently. Big Man was a little German boy in suspenders with a propeller hat and a lollipop. Frye was the most popular and coolest. Shiver loved wearing yukatas and was always trying to impress the group by doing something cool, like a cartwheel, only to fall on her face and start crying.

You mentioned something about dinner, what's something that you wanted to try making yourself but never found the courage/time to do so?
Most Things !! I'm not a very good chef, I spec'd into Pretty Good Baker instead - I would love to do stuff like homemade pasta or udon or lots of Extremely Thoughtful Meal Prep Lifestyle, but for various reasons none of those things have really happened for me as of yet. admittedly I am also blessed with Partner Who Is An Extremely Good Chef, so a little part of me is content with letting her take charge of cooking things when she's around

Here's a question for you, question receiving person.
Does Buck have any "secret" hobbies that Davey or Minnie don't know about? Or that he at least doesn't do when they're around/in front of them?
If he does, then what'd the other two think of it if he showed it off one day? (intentionally or not)
somewhat disappointingly, I don't think he has any "secret" hobbies per se - Buck's a very upfront person when it comes to things he likes or doesn't like, and in turn, what he does or doesn't do with his time. Possibly the closest thing is that he tends to be a little self-conscious about building things Specifically For Davey or Minnie (Minnie especially - he doesn't need that little brat catching on that he actually cares about her. Davey's already caught on so he's lost that battle.) or, sometimes, when he's reading something (Buck's a little less book-smart compared to Minnie and Davey, who both really excel on that front, so he's really self-conscious about that.)

How do the three of them feel about bugs? How do they deal with one when it gets in the "house?"
Minnie's perfectly fine with-slash-really likes bugs, so she doesn't mind finding one in the house at all. Davey's more or less ambivalent about them, and if he can, will make an effort to get them out of harm's way if he finds them inside. Buck doesn't mind bugs in theory, but in practice the unpredictable skittering movements skeeve him out and he really doesn't like them touching him, so Davey (and later Minnie) are the designated bug-dealers-with of the home.

I remember you mentioning somewhere Davey's fear of Minnie getting "Exploded" by a superhero (in the context of bringing her on a mission I think), is this something that happens often in their world? Super hero's going no-mercy on villains just because "you're a bad guy" even if they're just regular people?
short answer: yeag
long answer: it definitely happens in their world, but isn't exactly a given, if that makes sense. the vast majority of heroes focus on incapacitating, driving off or capturing villains rather than Sending Them To The Shadow Realm As It Were, but at the same time, that's less because "a hero would NEVER stoop so low as to kill someone even a villain!!" and more "it's bad optics if the guys we let fly around the city are constantly publicly killing people". (there are officially sponsored heroes whose main selling point is that they'll off villains, but those aren't the ones they're putting on tv, you know? that's more of an under-the-table deal. besides the point, anyway.)
as it stands, Minnie's more at risk of A) other, less principled villains (since she's a defected superhero heir and you KNOW there's some villains out there who would LOVE to be the one who took down the Armstrong Kid) or B) just overestimating her own abilities and falling off a building or something. either way, Davey, as The Adult In The Room, is dedicated to making sure neither of those things happen.
(he is also, quietly, to himself, a little bit worried about the possibility Minnie's folks are going to track them down and take her back. she's never said anything to him or buck besides UGH MY PARENTS ARE SO LAME AND SUPERHERO TRAINING SUCKS type complaining, but like, he can read the room. a thirteen year old doesn't wait till her folks leave the house, pack a bag, walk miles alone to track down her supervillain uncle and start living on his couch if there is Zero Friction Or Problems At Home. he doesn't wanna risk sending her back until he knows for sure it's safe for her, physically and emotionally.)

Low and behold another question. Thinking about how Buck and Davey are secretive about their relationship given the dangers of their enemies exploiting it. When Minnie showed up on their doorstep, how long did it take the two of them to tell her about it?
A Very, Very Long Time! literally to the point of "it takes until over halfway through the comic per my current outline" - at the point you see in the little asks and comics I put on here (most of those I would estimate within like... a few months of her running away to live with Buck and Davey), she has No Idea and they're in no hurry to tell her. (Buck just outright doesn't wanna talk about it, Davey's keeping quiet outta respect for Buck's wishes + kinda figures Minnie'll figure it out on her own eventually regardless). I won't go into specific spoilers or nothin', but I'll say that it takes several months for Minnie to even suspect there might be anything non-platonic about Buck and Davey's relationship, and a bit longer after that to get confirmation that Yeah They're Gay Keep Scrolling

I MIGHT BE A BIT LATE BUT I MUST ALSO HAVE ANSWERS /nf
For the ask game!! Questions 1, 5, 21, 35 (for da entire Trio™) !! And Question A for you :3c
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
combining these for ease of answerin'! thank you All for Question's... (some of these i answered before but I went and dug up the answers to combine/add/etc! readmore for length also)
1. What’s the maximum amount of time your character can sit still with nothing to do?
Very Very Little for all of them. Davey fares the best, but only barely, and only because if you have him sit still with nothing to do he'll just fully doze off. Minnie's the next best, though she gets fidgety and annoyed very quickly, and meanwhile Buck I think will Actually have a breakdown and/or panic attack if you leave him sitting still with nothing to do for any significant amount of time.
2. How easy is it for your character to laugh?
Minnie and Buck are both extremely guarded with their emotions (laughter included) and, publicly, are more prone to their Practiced Performative Villain Laughs than anything actually genuine. Of the two Minnie is much tougher to crack when it comes to genuinely laughing; Buck at least will loosen up for Davey Specifically (who can get him to crack up fairly consistently).
5. How easy is it to earn their mistrust?
Extremely, extremely easy for all three, though it manifests in very different ways. Between "She Is 13 and thus Thinks She Knows Better Than Everyone" and her general upbringing, Minnie tends to default to distrusting everyone around her, and it's very difficult to convince her otherwise (in part because she's not self-aware enough to recognize how distrusting she is or how much that kind of behavior ultimately harms her). Buck, similarly, has lived the kind of life where vulnerability is Extremely dangerous for him, and defaults to distrusting people as a rule (Davey being the major hard-won exception to the rule). Davey's mistrust is subtler because he's a generally amicable and sociable guy, but if you look close you'll realize he really doesn't give up any kind of personal or vulnerable information, and while he mostly tries to give people the benefit of the doubt, if you do anything to give him significant reason to feel unsafe with you he will NOT let that go easily.
11. How do they cope with confusion (seek clarification, pretend they understand, etc)?
Minnie's a stubborn thing who's the exact age to be most Well I Know Everything am Basically A Grownup Actually, so she usually pretends she understands and attempts to brute force her way through. results of this approach may vary wildly.
14. What animal do they fear most?
she doesn't really fear Any, specifically because she knows a lot about animals! like, I think she would have a healthy caution-slash-respect for Large Creatures What Which Can Kill You, but nothing she's particularly afraid of. Probably the closest thing would be the Bioengineered Monster Hybrids of side character Animal, since those are very much Not natural animals she's learned about, and thus she can't really make educated guesses about their behavior.
19. What is their favorite number?
I don't know if she would have one! I don't think she'd think too hard about that kind of thing. she'd probably call you a nerd if you asked her this because she's a little shit
21. Why do they get up in the morning?
I think all three would answer something along the lines of "because I have to". Like, what's the alternative? Not getting up? (I think Buck and Davey definitely use each other, and little by little Minnie, as motivation on this front, Davey especially - he gets up because he's got a family to take care of, y'know?) Minnie's also excited to learn the Villain Lifestyle, especially early on, so that keeps her getting up every morning too.
32. Do they have a go-to story in conversation? Or a joke?
I don't think any of them do, for exact opposite reasons - Buck and Minnie are both Extremely socially inept and don't like sharing a lot about themselves in conversation, so they don't have a good go-to, meanwhile Davey is a conversationalist so he likes to vary things up based on the audience more. (He's also deceptively private about his life, so also not a lot to share there that makes for a funny casual convo story.)
35. How do they treat the things their friends come to them excited about? Are they supportive?
It varies wildly depending on the thing and the friend. Buck and Minnie are both very under-socialized and very socially inept as a result, and Minnie in particular is kind of a little shithead, so I think if someone was talking about something they're excited about but Buck and/or Minnie weren't, they'd be kind of blunt about it, like, hey, I don't care about that actually. (Buck's at least slightly less actively malicious about it than Minnie, and has gotten better about it with age - though mostly with Davey, who, like. he's in love with that man. Davey could talk about Basically Anything and Buck would be down.) Davey, on the other hand, LOVES to hear people talk about things they love, especially people he cares about - listening to Buck ramble on about cars for hours on end is like his Favorite Activity - so he's generally VERY engaged and supportive in such scenarios.
A. Why are you excited about this character?
I Just Think They're Neat :) (but seriously, I think their dynamics with each other and the world around them are really interesting and fun to explore, and I'm a sucker for Family Of Choice and Becoming Better Thanks To Your Bonds With People Who Love You shit, so.)

For the assumptions thing! (Again!)
I'm guessing that birthdays were always interesting in the villain family trio's house and that when Minnie showed up they got even more interesting.
Like I can imagine Buck getting Davey a little something for his birthday and being a little shy/nervous about the whole exchange but relaxing when he turns out to be happy about it. Meanwhile Davey figures out Buck's birthday and similarly gets him a small gift which nearly sends him into tears because it's been how long since somebody wished him happy birthday, let alone genuinely.
Similarly I can only imagine when Minnie's birthday rolls around (If the timeframe of the comic in your mind allows it) Davey and Buck get together to make Minnie some kind of birthday breakfast and a gift (within their budget, off course) and she similarly to Buck nearly starts crying because of it.
COMPLETELY CORRECT. my current outline has it so Buck and Minnie both had birthdays shortly before the comic starts (turning 49 and 13 respectively) and the "main" story ends just shy of their next ones (50 and 14), and I haven't decided when Davey's birthday is, so I don't know if we'll see it in the comic or not. Birthdays have definitely been something that only really became/become pleasant for Buck and Minnie after leaving their family's homes, though - I've literally had a rough comic draft scripted for a while focused on their Birthday Memories and Davey being like Your Experiences Are Not Universal. What The Fuck
anyway it was definitely a very emotional affair for Buck (and probably will be for Minnie) getting to start sharing birthdays with Davey, especially since they met in their late 30s/early 40s - he'd gone most of his life having either Shitty Birthdays With His Hero Family or Completely Alone. I think, especially early on, Davey was very cognizant that making too much of a big fuss, even in a positive way, would be overwhelming for Buck (and now is probably very aware that the same is true for Minnie) and did his best to keep things at least a little lowkey, not that it stopped Buck from having Every Emotion about it. (Buck, meanwhile, especially early on, probably put a lot of pressure on himself to make Davey's birthdays feel special without any real idea of what you're "supposed" to do, which is of course wholly unnecessary because you know Davey's just there like Hell Yeah My Hot Boyfriend Might Make Me A Baller Fucking Cake)

Not a question for your characters as nice as they may be, but what are you're thoughts on My Friendly Neighborhood? If you've heard of it I mean.
i've heard of it and know it's a puppet-based horror game but outside that, have never played it or seen any footage of it! so None Opinion for now!
