Green energy is in its heyday.
Renewable energy sources now account for 22% of the nation’s electricity, and solar has skyrocketed eight times over in the last decade. This spring in California, wind, water, and solar power energy sources exceeded expectations, accounting for an average of 61.5 percent of the state's electricity demand across 52 days.
But green energy has a lithium problem. Lithium batteries control more than 90% of the global grid battery storage market.
That’s not just cell phones, laptops, electric toothbrushes, and tools. Scooters, e-bikes, hybrids, and electric vehicles all rely on rechargeable lithium batteries to get going.
Fortunately, this past week, Natron Energy launched its first-ever commercial-scale production of sodium-ion batteries in the U.S.
“Sodium-ion batteries offer a unique alternative to lithium-ion, with higher power, faster recharge, longer lifecycle and a completely safe and stable chemistry,” said Colin Wessells — Natron Founder and Co-CEO — at the kick-off event in Michigan.
The new sodium-ion batteries charge and discharge at rates 10 times faster than lithium-ion, with an estimated lifespan of 50,000 cycles.
Wessells said that using sodium as a primary mineral alternative eliminates industry-wide issues of worker negligence, geopolitical disruption, and the “questionable environmental impacts” inextricably linked to lithium mining.
“The electrification of our economy is dependent on the development and production of new, innovative energy storage solutions,” Wessells said.
Why are sodium batteries a better alternative to lithium?
The birth and death cycle of lithium is shadowed in environmental destruction. The process of extracting lithium pollutes the water, air, and soil, and when it’s eventually discarded, the flammable batteries are prone to bursting into flames and burning out in landfills.
There’s also a human cost. Lithium-ion materials like cobalt and nickel are not only harder to source and procure, but their supply chains are also overwhelmingly attributed to hazardous working conditions and child labor law violations.
Sodium, on the other hand, is estimated to be 1,000 times more abundant in the earth’s crust than lithium.
“Unlike lithium, sodium can be produced from an abundant material: salt,” engineer Casey Crownhart wrote in the MIT Technology Review. “Because the raw ingredients are cheap and widely available, there’s potential for sodium-ion batteries to be significantly less expensive than their lithium-ion counterparts if more companies start making more of them.”
What will these batteries be used for?
Right now, Natron has its focus set on AI models and data storage centers, which consume hefty amounts of energy. In 2023, the MIT Technology Review reported that one AI model can emit more than 626,00 pounds of carbon dioxide equivalent.
“We expect our battery solutions will be used to power the explosive growth in data centers used for Artificial Intelligence,” said Wendell Brooks, co-CEO of Natron.
“With the start of commercial-scale production here in Michigan, we are well-positioned to capitalize on the growing demand for efficient, safe, and reliable battery energy storage.”
The fast-charging energy alternative also has limitless potential on a consumer level, and Natron is eying telecommunications and EV fast-charging once it begins servicing AI data storage centers in June.
On a larger scale, sodium-ion batteries could radically change the manufacturing and production sectors — from housing energy to lower electricity costs in warehouses, to charging backup stations and powering electric vehicles, trucks, forklifts, and so on.
“I founded Natron because we saw climate change as the defining problem of our time,” Wessells said. “We believe batteries have a role to play.”

So-called motorcylists love to shove their beloved bikes away whenever there's a little bit of snow on the road. That's because motorcyclists are famously concerned with their public perception. They don't want to drive around town with wood screws run through their tires, shrieking profanities at stopped traffic before ripping a perfect 12 'o' clocker and driving across the iced-over multi-use-pathway, comfortable in their knowledge that the police will not and can not follow. Or it's because they don't have heated grips, and their handsies get cold.
Heated steering wheels are the single greatest innovation in cars in the last two hundred years. Unfortunately for me, they hadn't been installed into cars of the age I own. In the late 1970s, the newest innovation in steering wheel comfort was "maybe make them a little smaller, for the ladies." Seems like I was cursed to a lifetime of wondering if my thermostat was seized, freezing to death even through many layers of mittens and work gloves while waiting for the tow truck to arrive and clean up the commuters in front of me.
Of course, Plymouth also didn't equip this car with a lot of other modern features. For instance, liquid-cooled active speed laser and radar jamming was not available. Active pursuit drones pre-programmed with a seek-and-destroy order for all speed cameras were not yet on the market, unless you worked for the CIA. And also the good people of China had not figured out how to make $35 45-millimetre ball-bearing turbochargers capable of adding nearly four hundred horsepower to any engine strong enough to keep its guts on the inside when presented with one medium-sized jet engine's worth of boost. I had to add all those things myself.
Easy, right? Run some wires to a heating element on the steering wheel. There's just one complication: steering wheels turn. If I keep spinning the car left and right, eventually the wire will get tangled up and rip itself out, causing an electrical fire. Admittedly, that will also keep my hands warm, but the walk home after is inconvenient.
The original "engineers" who took a whisky-soaked gander at this car before slapping their secretaries on the ass had a solution, though. In every steering wheel, the horn button has the same problem. Unfortunately for me, the horn hasn't worked in this car since 1983, which complicated my attempts to reuse the wiring.
Ultimately, I came up with what a rocket scientist would call "a compromise." A pair of bolt cutters and a map to the local truck-supply warehouse's storage yard soon provided me with a nifty diesel-fired interior heater, a roaring flame that consumes all and produces enough heat to make toast from three feet away. Ratchet-strapped to the place where the passenger seat used to be, it will keep my fingers warm, as well as my feet and every other part of my body. Sure, it's inconvenient having to continually refill it with stolen farm diesel, and I could have run the exhaust pipe out of the cabin a better way than through the rust hole in the floor. Once you get that heated seat feeling, though, you simply can't go back. If you'll excuse me, I need to get going: if I don't get to work in the next five minutes, my boots will melt again.

Ehy sorry if this is like a stupid question or anything, but what do you think would be a solution to reduce the problem of the too powerful bikes?
i want to start off by saying i commend liberty for trying. i think it's clear to everyone that we've hit a power ceiling; just about all bikes have 300 horsepower, but use about 250-270 per race.
to me, reducing engine capacity is not the solution. i think the best ways to mitigate overperformance would be to remove all the scaffolding that squeezes every inch out of the bike; most of it being in the ECU. namely, reducing traction control and engine braking. i would also support decreasing aero, which would significantly help reduce tire wear over longer distances. nowadays it seems every race is spent waiting for the point -- usually about 3/4ths race distance -- when everyone loses their tires.
i think sustainable fuel is a good idea to reduce power organically. ethanol and synthetics have lower power storage by volume compared to gasoline, which could help performance all on its own.
it's likely that many of these changes will be reversed in the years following the '27 season, and we could see a full return to current standards. while there are plenty aspects of current builds that i don't like, i think attempts to turn the clock back on motogp are ignoring the core issues.

I just went through a lot of my old memories, stuff like photo's, report cards, and 'friend journals' which you'd have your friends and family fill in with basic information like favourite food and such. I've learned a few things:
If it doesn't have a date on it, put a date on it! Especially the year! Everything blurs together after a while and I have no idea what age I was when stuff happened and that's a shame when I'm trying to relate to kids (like my little nephew). For example, 8 and 14 year olds are basically the same to me now even though I know it wasn't when I was that age lol
Apparently I wanted to become a police officer at some point? I only remember wanting to become a surgeon as soon as I learned you'd get money and recognition for being smart that way. But thinking back on it, I probably wanted to be like our neighbourhood officer that would ride around on her bike and primarily give social support. They came to our primary school once to teach us about traffic rules and dealing with confused elderly/disabled people as part of their job and I thought that was pretty cool. Haven't seen police on bikes in a while though, so don't know if that's still a thing.
Everyone loves fries! It was universally included in the favourite foods of my friends and family. Dutch pancakes took second place and pizza third.
It's kind of sad to look back on the people and especially pets you've lost to time. But overall there's beauty in the challenges I've overcome and how much happier I am even though my body limits me more than ever.
Next up I plan to organise the photo's I've got on my various devices and finally find a good (privacy friendly) cloud storage solution. But that's a project for another time of year 😅

Navigating the Ups and Downs of Outdoor Cycling
Cycling outdoors is a favored activity for many, offering a sense of liberation and connection with nature that is hard to replicate with other forms of exercise. Yet, the changing seasons bring with them a set of challenges that can make this beloved activity less appealing. From the icy grip of winter to the sweltering heat of summer, the elements can discourage even the most dedicated cyclists. In this article, we explore these seasonal challenges and introduce a solution that ensures you can keep cycling, no matter what the weather throws at you.
The Cold Bite of Winter
When winter rolls in, it brings with it cold air, icy roads, and sometimes even snow. These conditions not only make cycling outdoors uncomfortable but also potentially dangerous. The cold can stiffen muscles, the risk of slipping on icy patches increases, and shorter days mean less daylight for rides. All these factors can make winter cycling a daunting task.
The Heat of Summer
Conversely, summer has its own drawbacks. The heat can be oppressive, making physical exertion feel significantly more challenging. High temperatures can lead to dehydration and heat exhaustion, while the strong sun can cause sunburn. These conditions often result in a less enjoyable and potentially harmful cycling experience.
The Indoor Cycling Revolution
Given these seasonal extremes, many turn to indoor cycling as a viable alternative. Indoor cycling offers a controlled environment, free from the whims of the weather. The key to a fulfilling indoor cycling experience lies in choosing the right equipment.
Among the myriad of options available, the himaly exercise bike emerges as a standout choice. This bike offers a seamless transition from the unpredictability of outdoor cycling to a stable and controlled indoor experience. It's designed for those who wish to continue their cycling routine without interruption, regardless of external conditions. For complete information, you can visit the official website about himaly exercise bike by simply clicking here: himaly
The Himaly Mini Exercise Bike: A Compact Solution
Next to the himaly exercise bike, the himaly mini exercise bike offers a unique solution for indoor cycling enthusiasts. Its compact design makes it ideal for small spaces, allowing for easy storage and setup. Despite its size, it doesn't compromise on functionality, providing a robust workout that mimics outdoor cycling closely. This feature-packed mini bike ensures that you can maintain your cycling fitness all year round, comfortably and conveniently. For further details, consider visiting the official website [insert link here].
Conclusion
While outdoor cycling has its charm and health benefits, it's not always practical due to weather constraints. The cold and heat can significantly affect your cycling routine, but with indoor cycling options like the himaly exercise bike, you can continue to enjoy cycling from the warmth and comfort of your home. These solutions ensure your cycling does not have to go on hiatus due to seasonal changes, making every day a perfect day for cycling.

Kicking Up Dust - Part 2
Tumblr media
Bucky Barnes x Reader
Warnings: None in this chapter. Slow burn to NSFW
A/N: Takes place after ‘Falcon and the Winter Soldier’ with one major exception - Steve Rogers is not dead. He stepped down. This is in line with my Crossroads story. There will also be a parallel Steve story coming.
Part 1 here.
Tumblr media
TWO
The sound of a motorcycle on the gravel drive pulled you from the cabinet you were inspecting. Looking through the open window, you had a clear view of Bucky Barnes swinging a leg over his bike and unzipping his jacket. He only had a backpack tied to the seat. The man traveled light.
He walked up the steps, noting that all the windows were wide open. “Hello?”
“In here!” You called.
He slowly moved inside, unsure what to expect. The musty odor of an interior too long neglected was not quite covered by the smell of fresh cleaning solutions. The reception hall rose two stories, with a grand staircase. A runner carpet looked drab and worn, but the wood wasn’t in bad shape.
“In the sitting room.” You spoke up again.
Bucky followed your voice to a room easily the size of his whole apartment. A wood writing desk and chair sat in front of one window. Many glass front bookcases held a whole library. One wall was dominated by a stone fireplace with decorative iron grates. A large area of the floor showed the discoloration of being covered by a carpet for years.
You sat on a wood chair in front of an open storage cabinet. Small boxes and stack of papers were spread out around you.
“Hey.” He set his backpack on the floor and removed his jacket.
“Hi,” you smiled. “Glad you could make it.” He just nodded, looking uncomfortable. You stood up. “Um, let me show you around.”
“Sure.” Bucky rubbed the back of his neck. “I, ah, I read the email you sent. It’s good to know something of what happened to my sister.”
The email included an overview of what you’d uncovered so far; when she got married, the fact she had a son, but he died in Vietnam, how her and her husband ran a small plant nursery on their property, and that she died at 72 from breast cancer. You guessed, the house was boarded up just before her husband died several years later.
“So, I hired exterminators and a cleaning company to come in and deal with the worst of it. Some of the furniture had vermin, like the sofas that had been in here, so I had anything that was too damaged moved out to the barn. The frames are still good, so someone may want to restore them. I found her journals in among the books. There’s a whole shelf of them over there. The bookcases were shut up tight, so everything in them are in good shape.”
His gaze followed where you pointed. You watched his brows pull together, but he didn’t approach the shelf.
“Come on, I’ll show you the rest of the house.”
You led him through the ground floor which included a more formal sitting room, the dining room, kitchen, a bathroom, a butler’s pantry, a utility room, a boot room, and rear breakfast room with huge windows.
“The cellar is finished, but it was primarily storage. I just made sure it’s been cleared of critters, but there’s tons of boxes and stuff down there.” You started up the stairs.  “Up here there’s six bedrooms and two and a half bathrooms. All the mattresses had to be tossed out. I order two new ones and put them in the two rooms that are in the best shape. They’re smaller rooms, here to the right. The master bedroom has a Juliet balcony which flooded and leaked into the room, so it wasn’t in very good shape.”
“Wherever you put me is fi-.” Bucky’s words trailed off. He froze, eyes locked on the portraits on the wall at the top of the stairs. You stepped aside, watching him carefully. Slowly he moved to a faded photo taken some time in the late sixties. His sister had the same blue eyes and dark hair. His jaw muscles clenched.
“She was beautiful.” You said quietly.
“Always had to beat the boys off.” His voice was thick. Bucky’s eyes moved to a photo of her and her husband, a few years later in their life. The corner of his mouth quirked up. “She looks like Ma.”
“You want me to leave you alone for bit?”
He stared at the picture in silence so long that you nearly left. Then he shook his head. “No. Stay. Please.”
“This one is you, right?” A little further down the hall was a framed picture of him in uniform. It was not his service picture. His hat sat at a slight angle and a flirtatious smile lit his face. He looked really attractive.
“Yeah, whole other life.” He sighed. “I think that was right before I left Brooklyn.”
Next to his picture was one of another soldier. This man was serious, and in a properly presented Army uniform. The name tag said ‘J. Peterson’.
“Their son.” You said. “She refers to him in her journals as ‘Jimmy’.”
Bucky bit down on the corner of his lip, nodding.
“Near as I can figure, he would have been 22 or 23 years old when he died.”
He frowned hard.
“Too young.” You sighed.
“They always are.” He closed his eyes for a moment then looked back at you. “Let’s finish the tour.”
“Okay.”
The stoic man with the hard stare in front of you seemed impossibly far from the smiling flirt in the old photograph or the teasing big brother in Rebecca’s writing. You really hoped that person still existed somewhere, a bit surprised at your deep yearning to see him smile.
“These stairs lead to the attic level. The worst damage is up there. Thankfully, they didn’t store much up there. The west side of attic level has four small bedrooms and one bathroom. The other side is all partially finished storage. There’s were a few steamer trunks up there. I had them move to the basement with the rest of the storage stuff.”
“So there’s nothing up there.”
“Not anymore. Anything worth keeping is either in the basement or the barn. I’ve got a crew coming to re-roof and they’re going to have to take everything down to the frame. Since that whole floor will be remodeled, there’s no point in putting up new sheet rock yet. So, it’s just better to have it empty.”
You opened a door to a comfortable room with a painted iron frame bed covered in a dark gray comforter. A small bedside table, chair and chest of drawers completed the room.
“This mine?”
“If it’s okay. I’m right next door. The bathroom is across the hall.”
“It’s great. Thanks.” He looked down the long hall with so many doors. “What did the two of them need with so much space?”
“First, I think her husband’s family inherited it. So, I don’t think they chose it. I also think they may have hosted kids or something here. I read one entry where Rebecca . . .”
“Becca,” Bucky correct you.
“Becca said something about ‘the boys’ coming for another trip. Plus, there’s a ton of winter gear in the basement. Way more than they would need and in all different sizes.”
“Hm.” Bucky shrugged. “Don’t know. So, what do you need me to do?”
You laughed. “Need? Nothing, sweetheart. Not why you’re here.”
His mouth fell open a little.
“You are here to go through your sister’s things and decide what you want to keep so I don’t feel guilty about using, tossing or selling things.” You smiled. “And in the process, I really hope you can find a little more joy than sorrow.”
His eyes softened. “No ulterior motive, huh?”
“I may ask you to lift something at some point.” You winked.
A shadow of a smile loosened his mouth, showing the fullness of his lips. “Fair enough, doll.”
“Doll?”
“If you get to use ‘sweetheart’, I get to use ‘doll’.”
“Fair enough.” You beamed back. “Come on, I want to get through that cabinet before lunch.”
He followed you down the stairs, “You’re feeding me too? Steve warned you how much I eat, right?”
You teased, “Yup. He increased the grant payout by ten percent.”
A huffed laugh came from behind you, causing a flutter in your stomach.

How to Choose the Right Gym Equipment for Your Home Gym
Tumblr media
Creating a home gym is a powerful step towards achieving your fitness goals, offering convenience and flexibility in your workout routine. However, choosing the right gym equipment for your home can be a daunting task, especially with the multitude of options available in the market. Whether you're looking to build strength, improve cardiovascular fitness, or simply stay active, making informed decisions about the equipment you invest in is crucial.
In this comprehensive guide, we'll walk you through the essential steps to help you select the perfect home gym equipment tailored to your needs, space, and budget. From assessing your fitness goals to evaluating available space and considering factors like budget, versatility, and safety, we'll cover it all. By the end of this blog, you'll be well-equipped to create a personalized and effective home gym that motivates you to stay on track with your fitness journey. So, let's dive in and transform your home into the ultimate workout haven!
Tips to Choose the Right Gym Equipment for Your Home Gym
Choosing the right gym equipment for your home gym is essential to create an effective and enjoyable workout space. Here are some steps to help you make informed decisions when selecting home gym equipment:
Assess Your Fitness Goals:
Determine your fitness objectives, whether it's strength training, cardiovascular fitness, weight loss, or a combination of these.
Consider your workout preferences and the types of exercises you enjoy.
Allocate a Budget:
Set a budget for your home gym equipment. This will help you narrow down your options and prevent overspending.
Evaluate Available Space:
Measure the available space in your home gym area to ensure that the equipment you choose fits comfortably.
Prioritize Essential Equipment:
Start with the basics, such as a workout bench, dumbbells or kettlebells, and resistance bands. These versatile items can support a wide range of exercises.
Consider Cardiovascular Equipment:
Depending on your goals and preferences, consider adding cardiovascular equipment like a treadmill, stationary bike, elliptical machine, or rowing machine.
Compact options like foldable treadmills or under-desk ellipticals are suitable for smaller spaces.
Explore Multi-Functional Equipment:
Look for multi-functional equipment, such as power racks or home gyms, which can accommodate various exercises in one unit.
Research Brands and Suppliers:
Research reputable gym equipment brands and suppliers. Read reviews and seek recommendations from fitness enthusiasts.
Check for warranties and customer support to ensure you have options if issues arise.
Test the Equipment (if possible):
If you have the opportunity, test the equipment in person at a store or gym to ensure it meets your comfort and usability criteria.
Consider Used Gym Equipment:
If you're on a tight budget, consider buying used gym equipment. Make sure it's in good condition and from a reliable source.
Ensure Safety Features:
Safety should be a priority. Ensure that the equipment you choose has safety features like safety locks, sturdy construction, and non-slip surfaces.
Plan for Accessories and Maintenance:
Don't forget to budget for accessories such as mats, mirrors, and storage solutions.
Plan for regular maintenance to keep your equipment in good working order.
Create a Well-Balanced Setup:
Aim for a well-balanced home gym setup that allows you to target different muscle groups and engage in various types of workouts.
Seek Expert Advice:
If you're unsure about your choices, consider consulting with a fitness trainer or expert who can provide personalized recommendations based on your goals and needs.
Start Small and Expand Over Time:
You don't need to buy all your equipment at once. Start with the essentials and gradually expand your home gym as your fitness journey progresses.
Personalize Your Space:
Make your home gym motivating and comfortable by adding personal touches like inspirational posters, music, and good lighting.
Remember that the right gym equipment for your home gym should align with your fitness goals, space, and budget. By carefully considering these factors and doing your research, you can create a home gym that helps you achieve your fitness objectives effectively and sustainably.

get datasouls combat toy complete up to the first miniboss combat
catch up on TFJ recap logs
become an accredited AWS Certified Solutions Architect and get that raise my boss has been talking about for ages
get an adjustable standing desk and under-desk elliptical thingy, and otherwise get an ergonomic workstation set up

badger the condo association landlady until she does something about the junk clogging up that basement storage room i’m supposed to own, and clean unused bulky stuff out of my house
clearly this waitlist thing isn’t working out so take some steps to see an actual doctor for the first time in like three years (and maybe get a cancer screening, or do something about that closed sinus)
get through the remaining 7 WaniKani levels
August! August was awkward! I thought I was going to lose a lot of time to Trails into Reverie, and so took on a less demanding task deliberately- but I ended up primarily distracted by Pikmin 4 and Master Detective Archives: Rain Code and An Odyssey to the Castle of Vampires, instead. Those latter two are both gonna stick in my head and I need to post about them separately, god damn.
Anyway, as far as clearing out the condo goes- the unit's all set for me to use, and I cleared out my moving bins and that extra bike I don't need or use which my aunt insisted I take, and I figured out a solution for organizing and storing clothes that actually works instead of getting neglected for being too inconvenient. Got new sheets for the beds, got a vacuum and cleaned house... I haven't gotten rid of the old elliptical yet because apparently nobody on craigslist wants an elliptical with no power cord, even for free. Not sure how I'm going to get rid of this thing short of calling a junk disposal service... maybe I can order a replacement power cord online, and then sell it in good condition?
Justice/Arcana kind of fell by the wayside- I spent a couple weeks on this big huge update, and then got kind of paralyzed on how to proceed from there and put it off because it was tough to fit in with other competing priorities. Work got crazy this month, with a huge corporate reorg that involved me taking on a bunch of new responsibilities and handing off some old ones that realistically shouldn't be handed off and are going to be a pain in the neck when I inevitably have to consult on them. I need to get back on the horse with that- and on my remaining kanji reviews, which have piled up to the tune of... almost 200 of them, yeesh.
As for September... I'm taking a full two weeks off for the second half of the month, since I haven't actually had a week off yet this entire year. Since I'm going to have a good long chunk of free time, I'm going to use that to try to meet that milestone for the Datasouls combat toy, which I haven't really touched all year. I also want to properly get J/A moving into the final part of the case- I plan to commit to at least 10 full updates for September, so I don't get stuck in the trap of expecting vague "progress" and never having a quantifiable goal to hold myself to.
